This place is amazing
Hotel is gorgeous. Fireplace in the room was amazing. Such friendly staff.
With my family we got together different cities. Had four rooms all in one floor. We enjoyed rooms’ large size, location and mini kitchen.
Great experience!!
The hotel was nice enough, but the room itself was quite small, especially the bathroom, which was poorly lit, had a broken towel bar and those nasty communal products on the wall which looked like they weren't cleaned thoroughly. Fortunately, I brought my own products. We arrived late, the restaurant was not open, and the front desk was not particularly friendly or knowledgeable about the area. The menu is also extremely limited, so we never even used our discount coupons, nor were we offered the "free water" upon arrival. No morning coffee in the lobby was a bummer. Not much of a social vibe either. Valet parking is very expensive, I recommend not driving or renting a car. The best part about this hotel is that there are many dining options nearby, as well as a trolley which took us right to Snapdragon stadium for $6 roundtrip. Ubers and Lyft drivers are also plentiful and there is much to do within a few miles radius. Many of the restaurants stop serving food early, but keep serving alcohol, which was strange.
Parking was very costly. Historic hotel was awesome. Very beautiful place
What a great hotel stay! From the valet to the front desk everyone was so pleasant and helpful. Its old world charm and beautiful atrium area were so unique. It’s right in the heart of the Gas Lamp District so it makes everything easy and walkable to reach. We can’t wait to come back again!
Friday the 13th Spooky Weekend
We stayed here on Friday the 13th and were delighted because this historic building is known to be one of San Diego's oldest haunted places. Our stay was amazing! Didn't see any ghosts but the spirits were flowing downstairs at the Salt & Whiskey bar! Top notch service. Very personable. Thank you so much! The value was amazing.
The location was amazing! It was only about a 10 minute walk from the convention center, and there were lots of restaurants around to eat at! The service was very nice, and I really liked the daily housekeeping service, it made the room great to come back to. The view from the balcony was great! One small quip I had with my room is that it only had one outlet which was hidden behind a closet, so it was inconvenient to charge my devices. Other than that, I had a great stay here and highly recommend this hotel for when you’re in San Diego.
I loved the historic building exterior and public spaces. The location was great and there were many dining options in the surrounding Gaslamp district. Staff was excellent. Room was clean and spacious. Will definitely stay there again.
Awesome Historic Hotel
Charming, well maintained property. Staff was friendly and helpful. We especially enjoyed Victor and Robert. Located in a safe walkable area. Would stay here again.
Convenient and antique vibe
This is second time staying here. Very close to the convention center and everything in downtown. Old wood furniture and high ceiling, so nice feeling.
Good convenient place to stay near gaslamp quater.
It is fine, if a bit old and rundown. No breakfast option, but plenty of restaurants in the area. I have no idea why there is a resort fee, it definitely isn't a resort and has no resort amenities at all.
The property was well maintained. Our room was clean, and the staff came every day to fix the room and remove trash. The one thing I disliked about the hotel was that we had an issue with the light at the room's entryway. The maintenance guy just knocked and immediately opened the door without waiting to be let in, which I found to be very unprofessional.
Good place to stay for conventions
We enjoyed staying at this hotel. It is close to the convention center and all of the activities in the Gas Lamp quarter. The hotel is an older facility but it is well maintained. The lobby and courtyard are fantastic. There was a gas fireplace in the room and a small balcony also. The price was reasonable. I’d stay again.
Loved the room! Could not fiquire out the in-room machine. No directions. We use a Kerig at home No coffee in lobby Went for cocktails 2 nights at Salt and Whiskey. Bailey was amazing!
Great experience
The hotel is rich in history and so beautiful the rooms have original bay windows and fireplaces. The staff was nice and helpful the gym is cute and has everything you might need. Close to food drinks and leisure. I would love to come back! We were there for a conference at the convention center and it was only about 5 minutes walking distance. only about a 15 minute drive to coronado beach. The bar is very nice with a rustic vibe and the bartenders were pleasant and knowledgeable.
Decent bed antique feeling. Towl not clean, smells so bad.
It was wonderful. All of the staff was friendly and helpful. The room was gorgeous.
Location! Near everything in Gaslamp Qtr. rooms give off San Francisco vibes. Clean room and nice staff.
Our stay was wonderful. The staff were kind and helpful. Allowed us to leave bags with them while we did our second leg and came back there. Rooms were comfortable and the a/c cold. Terrific fireplace easy to operate. Loved our stay there!!
Great location, liked the courtyard.
The staff were welcoming, it was easy to park, check in, and bring our items to our designated room. The lobby and atrium are so cute!! The room was cozy and perfect! Downstairs dining was perfection (super tasty food and cocktails). Nightlife was just a short walk away.
Super nice place to stay on a business trip. Location was excellent + Whiskey bar attached was a nice touch.
Great Stay
Michael at the valet as well as the entire staff..names I didn't obtain, were great. Great place to stay
Very nice and clean hotel.
A beautiful historic hotel with the most charming bar and lobby. The rooms are beautiful. The location is great.
Good place overall
It was great. Only hiccup was out coffee maker was defective and we didn’t get any credit for not being able to have coffee in our room for 2 mornings.
We had a nice stay. We wish there would have been free breakfast and better coffee in the room. The historic atmosphere was nice and the rooms were clean and well kept.
Great staff, lovely step back in time. The restaurant and bar are amazing. Will definitely return!
Great location but some cons
We stayed for three nights, the first night there was a loud party in the courtyard till 10:30 PM which made it hard for us to sleep with the baby. The rooms were a little crampy, but the service was overall good. The best part of the day was the gaslamp district and close proximity to restaurant and shopping and the convention center.
I stayed here before and I'd stay here again. The hotel has character, with some of the trade offs that entails. The wifi is good and included (good), but the beds aren't as firm as those in a chain hotel (bad). They've stopped offering breakfast, but there are good coffee shops literally around the corner.
A great historic hotel! Had a great experience.
Well maintained 19th century gem with a beautiful courtyard and a nice bar. Recommended for a few days in the gaslamp district.
Good value for the location. It’s right next to the heart of gaslamp. Don’t expect a 5 star hotel and you’ll be fine.
This facility is old and therefore not in the best mechanical condition. The bathtub had no grab bars, il functioning drain (which means you had to stand in 2 - 3 inches of water to take a shower) very risky especially with a slippery bathtub floor. Sometimes the door to the room wouldn't open and sometimes the elevator wouldn't work. Coffee maker in the room was a single serve portable NOT suitable for making your own coffee. The price was outrageous for such a poor facility. No normal food service on premises.
Excellent. Great location to downtown. Helpful staff. Large rooms.
Rather bland room was minimally decorated, but spacious enough. The balcony, for which I paid extra, overlooked an inner courtyard and offered no privacy. So was worthless.Small bathroom. Comfortable bed Cozy bar w. personable bartenders. Very limited, expensive food menu .Most positive: great location, near many restaurants. Most negative: no breakfast available. Might stay again, mainly for the location. 7/10.
The stay was nice, but we did notify the front desk that our bathroom did not seem like it was fully clean because we found a lot of what looked like little hair as though some one had shaved their beard or something all around the bathroom. Other than that the room was nice the valet was extremely nice and helpful!
It’s a historic building with 130 years of history based on the staff’s words. The hotel is well maintained, the room is spacious, very close to the convention center, lots of restaurants or pubs close by. Great hotel to stay.
It was great. Very convenient for meetings in the Convention Center.
Our first night we arrived late and went straight to bed but the street noise was pretty bad so we didn’t get much sleep. This was my fault as I insisted my wife book a street view room. I went to the front desk in the morning to see if they could help us out and they bent over backwards to get us moved to a different room that was courtyard view and also bigger. We had a Fantastic stay after that and would stay in this hotel again anytime.
You won’t regret it!
Beautiful old renovated downtown hotel!
Seems very hit-or-miss. My 1st room was street level and you could hear every person walking by on the sidewalk. Unacceptable and I quickly switched out. My 2nd room was drafty, had a broken heater fan that woke me up in the middle of the night, and terrible pillows. My 3rd room was fantastic.
Excellent staff. The location is great with plenty of dining option within walking distance. The renovated rooms are amazing. You will love this location!
Fireplace issues. There was an open flame ( pilot light) with no glass in front of it. I easily saw a child or adult mistakenly lay a towel or other flammable object next to it. Other fireplace issue: we couldn’t use it the end of the bed was two feet from the fireplace. You would have to sit on the end of the bed and hang your feet over the edge of the bed just to see it
Not for light sleepers
Overall the place was great. Good location, clean and beautiful. The only thing I did not like was that I could hear all the outside noise. Friday and Saturday nights were the worst with people partying outside. I was not able to sleep well those two nights. If you are a heavy sleeper, this place may be perfect.
It's an older property. Quaint, but some things need improvement like the shower.
Very happy to stay this hotel. Only drawback is room card key doesn’t work. We needed to ask front desk to make new key 4 times during our stay. Housekeeping staff was very nice!!
Cute hotel, amazing service
The service at the Horton Grand is so consistently excellent that i want to clone their management, training, and hiring practices for every business. The staff working there are kind, knowledgeable, and helpful in that way that makes you feel like their favorite guest ever.
Fantastic stay. Very cozy. Fun antique architecture. Impressive.
This has been the worst experience I’ve had with Horton grand hotel. Check in was the only easy part. However once in the room, bathroom had a really bad odor. The bathroom smelled like mold. It was definitely not cleaned in what seems like a really long time. The bathtub had grime and dirt all along the lining of the tub which I didn’t discover until the following morning. The experience only went down hill from that. Towards the early morning around 5-6, we were woken up by the sound of a waterfall. It had been raining heavy that night. Huge amounts of water started coming down from the ceiling fan, quickly spread all over the beds and carpet. I called the front desk and was told someone would come by to check it out. Waited and waited, no one ever came by. I decided to go to the front desk myself at the 3 hour mark. The receptionist said she had sent someone and was puzzled that no one showed up. Surprise surprise, when I asked if she had followed up with said person, of course not. I asked to speak to a manager and reception said they weren’t available, probably having a meeting about the water leak. I almost fainted when she said that LOL. You would think the customer would come first. You would think they would offer to move us to another room. Of course not. No one thought about the person who called about the leak. The poor excuse I got was no more rooms. I’m only happy I didn’t have to pay for anything of it. Will most likely never stay at the Horton again.

Hotels needs better upkeep and maintenance.
A very nice historic hotel with very cool architecture and ambiance. Great location to the convention center. Highly recommend!
Robert the gentleman that brought our luggage up was fantastic and extremely helpful with information as to what is best in the area.
Beautiful facility. Service was first rate. Only concerns were no tissues or microwave in the room.
A beautiful historic hotel with tons of attractions in walking distance. I highly recommend.
Love this place!
Fun but scary
My stay is always great when we stay at the Horton . This time they double booked a room and strangers walked in my room in the middle of the night. Me and my wife were scared and mad.
Great place near SD Convention Center
The Horton Grand is a very nice place to stay. It is about a 10-min walk to the Convention Center. There are many restaurants nearby. My room was large and comfortable, The hotel lobby space is very nice.
Great location, easy walking to restaurants
Local and easy access to entertainment options.
If you love classic hotels. You will love this place!!
Always Love the Horton
Always love the Horton— beautiful, clean, comfortable, Friendly.
Location was great, staff was very friendly, rooms were clean, very safe. Sad we didn’t see any ghosts!
Weekend Getaway to the Gaslamp Dist.
My second stay with The Horton Grand. We were in town for a birthday and they helped me make it a memorable stay for the birthday girl. Accommodating for early checkin when called in advance. It is an older but still beautiful hotel rooms are a little dated but that goes along with the rest of the place which we liked. Enjoyed that we had a balcony to enjoy the lovely San Diego night air. Room did have a I’d say musty smell to it when we got in aired it out and was good to go for the evening.
Loved getting free drink coupons to use in the restaurant/bar. Enjoyed hearing about the history of the hotel and the haunted rooms.
I didn’t stay here because the property cancelled my reso even though I confirmed booking !
One night
Cool hotel in the gaslamp district. Bar was nice, loads of bar fly's though. When I arrived there was no power (for the whole near by 7 blocks) front of house were great, helpful and we're very professional and friendly despite the obvious pressure of having no electricity.
Seems like an older hotel, needs some upgrading, but overall cleanliness was good. Wouldn’t stay there again. For the price definitely could get better
Charming boutique hotel in heart of Gaslamp. Stayed by myself and felt safe in the area as a single woman. Several walkable dining options - just around the corner from main downtown area. There is a cute Cat Cafe across the street where you can hang out with cats for an hour and sip coffee. Check in was very simple. Quaint lobby and old elevator - hallways and some areas are dated, but not in a gross way - I feel like it adds to the charm/character of historic hotel. I stayed in 432 and had the balcony on the top right of main face of hotel. Room equipped with coffee maker (looked a little dirty inside so didn’t use) vintage armoire, desk and chair by original bay windows, and very comfortable king bed. There was also a tv with app sign in capabilities and gas fireplace. Bathroom was a great size and good hot water. Some street noise at night, but minimal - makes sense being right downtown. I would highly recommend this hotel for short stays or a couples getaway. I didn’t eat in the restaurant but it has a great ambiance.
Location was perfect - very walkable to harbor/convention center and great food nearby. Lively area but the block itself was quiet. The property is cute, rooms a little dated but it fits with the historical character of the hotel. No coffee service or breakfast options in the hotel.
Nice and central
The bathroom and carpet in my room were not cleaned properly, everything else was positive. The staff was wonderful.
Didn’t spend much time there
Didn't like the fact there was no full restaurant service.. only dinner.
Beautiful historic boutique hotel. I will be back!
Charming atmosphere and delicious meal!
Charming and unique atmosphere. Loved the bell service as soon as I exited my Uber. Was given two drink tickets when I arrived, which was a nice surprise and it encouraged me to dine in their restaurant/bar. I don’t think I’ve ever had Better salmon in my life. Absolutely delicious
Great experience!
The hotel was really neat. The service and people were great. The towels were rough and the ironing board was a small one that went on the desk. Those weee my only two issues but I enjoyed it and thought it was a good hotel for a great price. It was a great place to get out and walk. Most everything was within 10-15 min of a walk.
Loved the whole look and feel of the hotel. Super close to Petco Park
Well it must be about sleep and comfort. Great hotel it needs to upgrade their mattresses. Changed rooms to second one not must better. A poor night sleep will ruin any stay. Great facility just replace your mattresses. I have stayed there at least 6 or 7 times.
The property’s restaurant and bar is only opened after 4, so we didn’t get to use any VIP benefits
Victor was great. Extremely helpful and accommodating. He truly made the stay wiorth it. We will be back
I love this hotel not only was the staff amazing but the hotel is also haunted. The staffed was super knowledgeable about the hotel and there and gave us great place to eat and visit highly recommend this place for couples.
Grand stay
This is my second time here and love coming back. Room is cozy and classy, and great food at the bar. I will go back again should my travels take me there.
Haunted But Cute
So the hotel is boutique-y, nostalgic and very Instagramable. I was a little taken aback that it was “haunted”. I missed that on the website. It messed with my psyche and so every bump and thump had me on edge. That’s the only reason why I gave it a 4 star instead of a 5. Once I saw the haunted tour offset of the lobby it put all of the antique furniture in perspective. Very close to everything. Parking is ridiculously priced - another reason for the star deduction. Other than that, great stay!
Great location
I always stay at The Horton. It’s the best location in Gaslamp district. You can walk to great restaurants. The service is great and beds are comfortable.
Loved the location! Cool historical hotel.
I liked the older hotel that was kept in great shape. The hotel was very clean and service was very good. It was in area of restaurants and things to do and see.
Great property. Room was a tad small, but we loved the historical feel.
Overall the property was pretty clean and nice. The rooms could use some maintenance and upgrading. The area surrounding the hotel is full of drug addicts and not safe, but that’s almost all of downtown now.. my main issue was my bill was about $100 more than advertised due to tons of hidden fees etc which is unacceptable to me.
Historical hotel
Great location to walk to all the nightlife of the Gaslamp district. So many restaurants around within walking distance & even a grocery store. Petco stadiums are also within walking distance. We paid extra for a room with a small balcony. I would bother with it since it faces into a small courtyard. And when people are in the courtyard it echoes up.
Beautiful historic property, loved the feel when staying there. Shower could have been better in our room the water wouldn’t get hot in the morning. Overall great experience and would definitely stay again . Thank you
I really enjoyed my stay, friendly Staff, excellent location and a very comfortable bed.
Great hotel. Very close to all the restaurants & bars. Very comfortable and room was fabulous
Beautiful, historic property. Enjoyed having a deck.
Great
Weird haunted vibe but I kinda love it. Also awesome bar and location is beyond perfect
Amazing
This place is amazing! Loved our stay here. Will be coming back if in the area again.
