Very nice
Room was clean and beautiful. Will definitely return.. highly recommend this place
Nice place. Convenient location
I did not gave 5 stars for staff for the hotel because everything is electronically operated, which work very well. Also did not gave 5 stars because there are 35 steps to go up before reching the room. The restaurant is very appreciated and I gave them 5 stars.
It was a nice area downtown and the food at the restaurant was yummy!
There was no hot water from 4pm for the rest of the night! Not only did we pay extra for the room with a big tub and were unable to use it due to no hot water, we couldn't even take a shower. I called the on-call number twice, they said they would notify maintenance, but it never got fixed for us as they also said the hot water is connected to the restaurant below and there was nothing they could do. We were extremely disappointment and frustrated.
Location great. Attached to great restaurant. Comfortable and clean. Welcoming room with tv on ‘fireplace’ mode. Heat adjusted so it was cosy.
No onsite staff, but fairly seemless.
Moyen
Bruyant. Musique fortye jusqu'à minuit environ. Odeur d'humidité.
That the event room was accosted the boutiques hotel, same building
I didn’t know there was paid parking across the street. Should have known no parking when there was no mention of it.
Convenient location.Great that you dont need to leave the building to enjoy the restaurant.
Every thing was clean and welcoming only thing did not like was very hot in the room and bed was little uncomfortable except that every thing else was really nice
It was elevated with character! Staff was amazing. Would stay here again in a heartbeat
I paid over $80 more for the room with the tub and there was no hot water so I couldnt use it. They issued me a $34 reimbursement. They said that was sufficient as other guests had no hot water either. I saw previous reviews about no hot water which means they are aware that the shared hot water with their restaurant below isnt sufficient and choose to do nothing about it. Will not stay there again.
Loved the location and how convenient it was to Capital Theatre, parking and downtown dining and bars.
Easy access and central to everything
There is no hot water in our room. At 9 pm, there is no one to call for assistance.
No soap, no shampoo, mold
When arrived, it smelled like moisture and there is rust on light fixtures and metals. Hook for the bathroom towels are broken , no shampoo, no soap in the dispenser. The room was warm and hard to adjust, floor kept cracking all night, tv is in green and blue Colors only. It was by far our worst hotel ever
Always A Great stay
Great room but too close from party/event room
The service was great with thir many texts and communications prior to the stay and after. However, there is an event room right next to the rooms and I the DJ and the men outside the room kept me awake until 2AM. Great place but check before if they have an event. They give you earplugs but it's not enough. Cute room, adults only (yeah!! :) ) clean!! If it wasn't for the party event it would have been great!
Easy access/walkable
We had a good stay at this property! It is a bit noisy at night, but that’s of no fault of the hotels, it’s in a busier part of the city. They do provide ear plugs if you wanted to use them. Check in was a breeze as was check out. Parkade across the street provided ample parking nice and close.
Great stay, as always!! Thank you
Overall a good experience. We didn’t like that you could see the toilet through the glass shower from the bed. Seems a bit unprivate, even for a close clouple like we are! We could also hear people walking in the corridor behind our bed, quite late at night....but that is the nature of a downtown hotel I guess. Because of the toilet location, we probably wouldn't book here again, or maybe try a different room. Otherwise everything was good!
St James was easy, clean and in the thick of it all. We had a great stay
Not What We Expected
We were left completely alone for 4 days. There was no staff on premises. Contactless check in/out and no one available on site if a guest needed something (especially after hours). No shampoo in our room upon arrival. Our TV didn’t work. We discovered this in the evening so no one on site to deal with this. If this had been disclosed on their website or in a guidebook, we would have chosen a different hotel.
I didn't like the self check-in. The constant reminders for a registration online by sms when I already did it. The empty shampoo dispenser. The fact that nobody answers SMS after 7 pm. The expensive price.
While I can appreciate a no-contact check-in, the communication around check in was lacking. There is no one physically at the property to greet you, and no one answered the phone when I called with questions. The room was clean and comfortable, but visitors should note that there is no elevator. Overall our stay was fine, but first impression wasn’t great.
Quiet accommodations in the heart of downtown.
Issue with plumbing in the room. Smell of feces evident as soon as you walk in. Even though they offer free earplugs and I was on the 3rd floor, I could feel the music/basse coming from the restaurant on main floor. No staff on hand to address issues. My first stay and likely my last at the St James Hotel. Expensive and not worth what I paid. I recommend you look elsewhere for your stay in Moncton.
Cute place. Love the decor. The only thing we didn’t like was the fact that we could hear a comb drop in the next room. Our neighbours were up very early and we heard everything they did!
This was a very nice hotel...great location
Stairs are very steep
Great location and room was very spacious. The bathroom was large and great shower. However, it would have been beneficial to have a larger fridge and one that is cold. It would have been great if there was a microwave in the room.
Overall I was very disappointed. The room etc was nice. The hotel had no staff, it was self check in and confusing. No elevator, so you had to climb a large flight of stairs to get to a key pad, this makes the hotel not suitable for many guests in my opinion. The hotel room was noisy, they provided ear plugs. Additionally the back out curtain was broke on the main window, and the side windows just had silver blinds that kept no light out at all. If they would have had any staff in the hotel I would have asked for my money back.
Nobody there to check in. Personless.
It’s a great place to stay. The no contact check in is a little confusing but it worked out well.
Great location as the property is located downtown and surrounded by many restaurants. The room was on the third floor and there is no elevator so we brought just what we needed, however the room was modernly furnished and the bed was very comfortable. Did not like having to provide a picture of a government issued id. in order to get a keycard through the virtual checkin.
The room was very clean and comfortable.
Several items in the room were broken or not working.
This was a great bputique hotel stay. St. James Gate has great rooms and atmosphere. We were a bit last minute in booking but once we figured out the no-reception check in it was great
found receipts in the room from previous people, no ice machine etc
I would like to see free parking. It cost 30 dollars for 2 days.
.
Great downtown location to access dining, shopping and markets. Easy walk to the water's edge. Beautifully redone historic building.
Rooms are newly renovated and spacious
Very nice
The room furnishings/style/decor were good, clean and comfortable. However it didn't have a window to the outside of the building. It had a window overlooking the downstairs bar/restaurant. St James Gate is a popular bar that presents live music. It's a great place to hang out but that means the noise impacts the room until the bar closes (around 1pm). Otherwise the room was quiet and I didn't experience much noise from other rooms. I did find it to be a good experience, but people should be prepared for the impact of the bar below. The bathroom was modern and good but the shower has only one setting. The fan in the bathroom was loud, not an issue for me but may bother some. Overall, I would recommend the hotel, and may stay there again.
I recently stayed for 2 nights. The first night was great however the second night the event centre attached to the hotel (second floor) was so loud till after 2AM that it was unbearable. I wish I would have known this before I would have asked for a higher floor or booked different accommodations.
Great stay at James Gate. Stayed there due to attending private event on site. Very nice hotel overall. Quiet, despite being located above a pub. A bit convoluted to get in nd out (two accesses, not entirely clear), and barely existant front desk. Despite this, very nice stay - well appointed room, heated floor in bathroom (it felt heated). Very conveniently located. Would definitely recommend for a short stay like mine.
Nice room, but difficult to get a good night sleep
The room was nice and big, but it absolutely needs blackout drapes and better sound proofing. Outside lights lit up the room at night, even with the blinds closed. Woke up thinking someone was in the room when it was only people outside the room.
Second time staying there. Love that it is close to everything
Love it
No one brought us new towels
Awesome
A great location with a touch of the eclectic.
Good
I would just say that it’s confusing to find the right door to go in initially. They have this big sign above an outside door that says it’s the hotel entrance, but that’s not the first entrance you need. That’s only for AFTER you get your room key. It’s the doors two down to the left. But other than that things were fine, but I wonder how things may have been different if there had been an issue with no front desk staff to call on.i would stay again though, overall good experience.
No usb plug ins
Great stay, nice room, clean and comfortable. Only complaints are that 1) there is no privacy for the toilet, it is visible directly through the shower from the room and 2) the entrance to the hotel is not clearly marked as there are three doors labeled hotel entrance, only one of which allows you in. Now that I know, I’d gladly stay again though.
Online check in not user friendly. It took 2 phone calls to the hotel number to make it work. Otherwise a good experience
our room was facing the party lounge, didn't sleep much was a nice spot to stay
The room was lovely and comfortable, the process of checking in and getting keys was fairly easy. Would suggest maybe a microwave in the rooms (there was none in mine) -- ordered food from the restaurant downstairs and would love have been able to reheat leftovers. Otherwise, excellent!
convenient. easy access and walkable to all amenities.
Very quaint hotel but rest assured you are on your own. Everything is done through email ... we loved the room. Very clean and the price was excellent. However no parking so you will pay for parking off site. Also no elevator that we saw and we were on the third floor ... maybe we just missed it ... the stairs were good exercise thought :)
Modern and clean rooms
Great and modern rooms. Beds a little too hard for me but that’s subjective… Simple system to access the room and right downtown. Parking across the street was free !
Great location. Nice little boutique hotel, by only issue was there was no elevator. Difficult carrying luggage up 2 flights of stairs
Absolutely loved our stay! We stayed in the executive suite, which had an awesome large tub to relax in and a comfy king size bed. The restaurant was ridiculously good, like mouth watering, licking plate clean good. Would highly recommend and will absolutely be returning.
Quaint little suite close to everything. Clean but a musty smell. Hopefully not an issue throughout the night with allergies.
Room was very comfortable.
Nice place
This was a very nice quiet place to stay, with an excellent restaurant.
Love this hotel! Located in the heart of downtown easy walking to shops and restaurants! Very clean friendly staff easy check in!
Really nice place to stay. I love the heated floors in washroom.
It was close from the downtown area. Don't know where to park or where to go to have access to the room. Have a few security checkpoint before getting into the room. Seems quiet and clean. They forgot to mention I had to pay for a parking garage nearby. You can't pay at the desk, everything have to be done online. Couldn't cancel my reservation on the same day, 15 min after I rented it...because they gave me a room elsewhere.
A very nice stay....thank you.
Great place for business travelers
It’s a beautiful property, close to downtown, the food is excellent.
Very comfortable
Parking
No on site parking. There is a parking garage across the street but I had difficulty getting in and the next morning I couldn’t get out and had to call for assistance
The rooms are beautiful and unique. Will definitely stay there again. It was perfect for my business travel but would return for business or pleasure.
10/10 on everything with exception of the bathroom—the location and transparency of the shower specifically. I’d love to know what person thought it a good idea to have a see through shower—and I mean see through into the room with the toilet placed directly in front of the see through shower. At no time in my life do I want to be sitting, relaxing on the bed or a chair in my hotel room and see my husband sitting on the toilet. Not sexy at all. And he wouldn’t enjoy the show in reverse either. So, not a great choice if you have a closed (bathroom) door policy with your partner or sharing the room with a friend etc. Otherwise, the hotel is great, the location perfect for a downtown stay, parking was super easy, ambience was lovely, and the staff at front desk was extremely friendly and responsive.
Great location, stay and service.
Really great stay. The only issue is the humidity smell that was in the room. The smell would be there upon entering but I did not notice it after a few minutes in the room.
it was ok, with a weird entrance and a pita self checkin!
We enjoyed our stay we will be returning with our grandkids in august for two weeks
The only issue I had was trying to find a place to park... there aren't any indications anywhere if there's any designated parking spaces for hotel guests. The only possible option is an underground parking across the street but I couldn't figure out how to get in... I'm missing a leg so this was a bit frustrating. Also the underground parking is 18$/day which is an unexpected expense especially when you're staying for multiple nights.
I liked it was close to.everything we had planned. I didn like the mold in the shower, the peeling leather chairs and the fact there was no staff to go to if you have an issue .
Absolutely loved our stay at SJG! Room was fantastic. The unique architectural design of the building is lovely. Will stay again!
Very comfortable room, in a great location
The space offers a lot of options, an event space, dining and spacious rooms. The whole property is well maintained and all the staff are friendly and helpful. I would recommend this spot to anyone.
Beautiful spot Clean Polite staff Only downfall the bed was really hard and not comfortable in my room
It was great, easy to get in and out. Communication was great via text or e-mail
We had a great stay ! Certainly recommend to anyone
Nice small room. Very unique showers. Lovely atmosphere.
This was a very arid experience. You enter via codes and there is no staff anywhere. It used to be very friendly and welcoming, and offer a small breakfast. If this is the future for hotels, it is not appealing.
Noisy
Good location, good price, clean room. NOISY - we knew there was music most nights at the restaurant below, but what I didn’t know was the walls are paper thin, you can hear your neibours drawers open, when they walk, never mind the music until midnight, then kitchen prep starts banging around at 6 am, there’s not elevator so when someone has a roller bag and they drag it up the the stairs the whole building shakes. If your a deep sleeper maybe not the end of the word, but if your a light sleeper stay away
We love this place we stay here every 2 weeks
Slept in my truck
Clean and modern hotel. Very quiet, self check in, close to lots of bars and restaurants.

Our first stay at St James Gate Boutique Hotel, was very impressed! Our room was on the third floor. There are steps, which was not a concern for us but may be for some. Overall very comfortable, clean room, awesome location and the price was excellent. We would not hesitate to stay at this location in the future.
