No thank you
The room was very clean and updated. I felt safe and comfortable inside. The outside of hotel was a bit sketchy and outdated but I liked that parking was below the hotel and sort of hidden from the street. Overall it worked well for the 1 night we stayed and was very close to where we needed to be while visiting.
Out of my 5 nights staying there, housekeeping did not come two days. When I alerted the owner, he was rude and abusive. I just hung up on his unintelligible ranting. The check-in felt less like a motel and more like transient housing. “Customer service” are two words that absolutely do NOT apply to this property.
Was unable to stay due to an illness. Was sad to see my type of reservation was non refundable.
Bad Experience on 2/14/2025
7:00 PM: Manager (owner?) knocked on door and then immediately opened the door, before I had a chance to get to the door (I had just finished shower and was getting dressed). He gruffly accused my of not having checked out. I explained thatI had booked Thursday & Friday; he then showed me his clipboard that had that I was supposed to check out on the 15th. I said "right", but today is the 15th. He mumbled something and blamed it on his assistant. Said he had to go check it out. He was rude; no apology. 15 minutes later I went down to the front desk and asked if everything was OK. He said he needed my confirmation number. He insisted I go get it from my room to get it. I went back upstairs, but he had stopped my key from working. I went back downstairs and he said he it was a system error. I asked for an apology. He said he had already apologized. He was extremely rude. It was a very upsetting experience.
Great neighborhood. Hotel fairly run down and shabby.
Clean room, great location.
There is barely any air flow in the hotel and all the rooms and halls smell weird. It’s cheap but as you walk up the stairs the chipped paint, scratches on the walls and hard to open doors make it apparent how badly it needs to be repainted and redone. We booked the same room we always do, but we were booked into a tiny room compared to what we have received before. I asked we be moved to a bigger room as we paid for deluxe, and they obliged which was nice. We were only given one key.
Walking distance to the beach
The hotel was close by for what I needed and the room was VERY CLEAN! However the management was very rude and not welcoming at all. I am handicapped and parked in a designated spot and was told that I couldn’t park there. And NOT in a nice way! I ended up parking on the street because I didn’t want to get into it with the woman at the desk. Later I see a Tesla parked there with NO handicapped placard!!! When I had a problem with my keycard the man at the front desk was very rude and told me that I wasn’t using it properly. He was right but there was no reason for him to be so mean. I will say that the cleaning crew was lovely. They were very nice and friendly. Won’t stay there EVER again
Another good experience at Mirage for my business trip. It’s comfortable room except the heater was very loud when it came on or off. I like the free parking.
If you need a one night stay with no frills this is the place. It was fine for one night and located in a quiet area with restaurants, the zoo and beach nearby. Parking onsite was convenient however cramped. Check in was straightforward although the clerk wasn’t much for personality. The room was located off the first floor, next to the office and parking with parking lot lights on all night. Lots of loud noises at night, banging doors, stomping, etc. Someone tried to check in at midnight and was making a racket so I got first row seats for that. The window was unlocked when I peeked through the blinds. As a solo traveler those things make me uneasy. The tv was old and didn’t have streaming ability. The soap and shampoo was lacking. The coffee was gross. Overall impression.. meh. Will I stay again.. if the price was lower.
Good little Inn
We planned on staying in San Francisco for only one night but last minute decided to stay another night. Our first night at Mirage Inn was pleasant so we decided to book the second night here as well. We had no issues. Both our rooms were clean and nice. Everything worked fine. The shower in our first room (102) didn’t seem to have great hot water but it was hot enough. Our second room (220) had good hot water. Loved the location and walking next door to the cafe then to the beach to eat and drink our coffee. Hotel had free parking underground. Not a lot of amenities but you get your basics. Reading all the reviews about service, we had no problem. We didn’t need or ask for anything extra, check in was easy, not overly friendly but not rude. Leaving, one of the maids talked to us and was cheerful and friendly and the guy at the front desk was pleasant when we dropped off our keycard and said bye. Overall we would stay here again.
Clean
Wonderful clean hotel. Person who checked us in had an attitude that I just wasn’t able to understand.
Nice place
Convienient to my visit location will probably stay again, but realize it for what it is an older property
Quiet neighborhood.
Clean, but average. The concierge was a bit unfriendly
Close to the beach which is what we needed. Easy parking (and free). Check in was underwhelming and impersonal. Service was average
The hotel was in a quiet clean location in San Francisco.
Great stay for business trip for one night.
Business trips 1-2 nights a month.
I’m coming here almost every other month when I have to be close to my job without commuting to SF City. I had very good experiences with clean room, hot shower, and free parking. I wish the coffee maker in the room work every time, it had been hit or missed lately.
Rooms were clean.
Clean, modern room
Older hotel with fresh look rooms
Close to beach and the SF Zoo. There’s a good breakfast place next door but buy your coffee at George’s at the Zoo Market for much less and is good. The pizza place is also good, no salads though. Fisherman’s Wharf is a 20 minute ride as is Golden Gate Park. Hotel not much to look at from exterior but room was newly renovated.
Very rude staff
The front desk staff was extremely rude. I was accused of not paying for my room when I extended my stay. I showed bank receipt and was still yelled at by staff. It was shocking how rude the woman was to a guest.
My second time staying here. Older property, but in a safe quiet neighborhood near SFSU. Free parking.
Overall a good stay.
It was clean and the location was great. Parking was free and easy as well. I appreciated that it felt safe and secure as I was staying there alone.
Things keep breaking down and owner manager didn’t want to fix it he said to go to Expedia and get refund but there are no other options and no refunds
Room was a remodeled one, and spacious. The property desperately needs a renovation
thw homeless
Pretty good stay in SF
Don’t stay here! I ended up sleeping in my car. I didn’t see it in the fine print that there would be no one to check me in after 10 PM. When I arrived, there was no answer, or even an automated message, explaining how I could get into my room. The next morning, I went to the room to shower and get ready, and that’s all I used it for. When I requested a refund, I was simply told that it was my fault for not checking in within their timeframe. Horrible experience with a hotel that clearly does not cater to business travelers, who often arrive later in the evening.
Near SF zoo
Stay away, the front desk guy was mean and not pleasant, he shouldn’t be in the service business at all, the room was clean but the outside of the hotel was in bad shape. The bed was not comfortable either.
The inside of the rooms were very nicely renovated and cleaned. It was very quiet, walkable to a coffee shop and the beach. The gentleman at the office was very nice and addressed my questions.
Property was nice. Rooms have been remodeled - also nice and clean. The TV could be larger the space is definitely there. Bed frame leaves little to desire. It’s a full square frame to the floor no under bed space - this results in multiple times of bumping and bruising into this annoying badly designed frame, if that makes sense. Would stay there again if needed. Man that does the check in could have more of a friendly or welcoming personality….looks like he’s not a people person lol hmmm. housekeeping ppl were friendly nice and full of personality!
Easy access to what I wanted to do.
One night for a business trip, quiet room with AC and hot shower and a free parking space.
No frills, but more than adequate for my needs.
Very clean. Updated bathrooms. Good water pressure. Linens seem a bit worn, but clean. Newer mattresses.
The rooms were upgraded, very comfortable very clean. The housekeeper was adorable, and very friendly. I wish the man behind the counter at check-in was a little bit nicer, very standoffish and not friendly at all, which made me feel un-welcomed.
they where very accommodating
Recently upgraded rooms. Very clean. Great shower heads. Across the street from SF zoo and 2 block walking distance to beach. A secret gem in the rough.
Very good service and place to stay close to SFSU.
Overall very clean, parking at the basement is cramp
Front desk clerk was rude. Loud music and parties at night were unchecked. Short walk to the beach and close coffee shop.
Good enougb
It is adequate. TV didn’t work and no ice bucket in room, but I only needed to sleep there, so not a big deal. It was a bit worn, but the shower/water worked well, the WiFi was okay and it was clean. Could use more comfortable mattress and pillows. I only saw the front desk clerk, no other personnel. A bit pricey, for the bare bones feel, but as mentioned earlier, adequate.
Great location
Perfect for what I needed
Hole was just fine for what I needed. Close to the golf course I was playing and was clean and comfortable. Nothing fancy here but I don’t need that so worked out perfect for me.
Horrible costumer service
They kicked us out due to having children
Enjoyed the location, easy access to zoo, ocean, and the Great HWY for getting into the city and parks
Walked in and spiderwebs hit me as I open the door. I go to shower, there are slugs on the floor of the restroom. The room looks like it’s from 25 years ago.
I've never been in that area before and wasn't sure if it was safe. I felt safe in the property
Very nice modern bright bathroom and bedroom.
Very shop worn.
What a very beautiful room and staff was so kind and helpful.
Good value, nice hotel staff, convenient to beach and zoo.
Quiet beach close location
Great comfortable location. Good size usable shower. Parking a little tight but workable. Bedding comfortable. Good for single person stay, very safe.
Dont ever come here
Zero stars, guy at front desk yelled at me right after i said hello.
NA
I loved how modern and stylish the inside of the room looks.
Located 1 block from the ocean. Its not fancy but is quiet, comfortable, and clean. A great landing pad in SF.
Staff was nice and rooms were updated and clean.
clean room and great service been here 3 times already
Front desk staff not very friendly & welcoming. Rooms are super clean however you can hear everything! Great coffee shop next door and convenient distance to where we needed to go.
It was nice that we could walk to the beach.
Smelly
The place smells like Indian food. The front desk lady was not friendly and busy in the back room and didn’t want to help us
I like the location, we started out bad at checkin but everything was smooth after.
Beds were uncomfortable but everything else and being so close to the beach was great
SF Native goes back to the City for a Weekend
The front desk guy is a little cranky, and they have rules about checking in before 10pm, which is not ideal, and the TV’s are weirdly small. That said, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable, the water pressure was good, and the location is sneaky-great. Java Beach next door is a great local coffee spot, and Pasquale’s Pizza is an SF institution. Staying outside of the tourist areas in SF is a great way to experience the City that the locals do. There are tons of under the radar places to eat in the Sunset on Taraval, Judah, Noriega, and Irving. West Portal is also an unsung hero for food and local vibes. Also, the beach is down the street…
I don’t really do reviews but this one was worth reviewing. The property doesn’t look like much from the outside but I really loved the interior. Clean and modern. So close to the beach and zoo. Safe underground parking. This is a great spot. Highly recommend.
Rude staff, terrible view, broken fridge.
Rude staff. Broken appliances. Only paper cups. Falling apart premises.
Stay at your own risk
I ended up leaving hours after I checked in. There was someone moaning and yelling, it quite honestly sounded like someone was detoxing or dying. There was also an older woman (whom I believe is an employee) wandering the halls for hours yelling, screaming and chanting something very loudly. I did not feel safe so I booked another hotel for the night. Do not stay here especially if you are traveling alone.
Save your money and find another place to stay!!!! Hotel was not as pictured on the website. Rooms were recently remodeled but the rest was very beat up. Hallways had multiple patches of paint samples along with many ding and scratch marks. Room doors were very chipped and dinged up. Our room ac unit didn’t work. Manager entered our room without telling us and “fixed” it. Blew air but barely cold. We got more cold air from opening the window. Family in the room next door had ac that blew you out of the room. No elevator and multiple flights of stairs not noted on web sight. Free breakfast advertised but none available. Man and woman running the hotel were rude and uncooperative. Male manager was extremely rude whenever talked to and yelled at you when you questioned him. Handicap parking was only available if a handicap room was booked at a much higher rate than a regular room. Even when no one was using them. Have to carry everything you bring, no luggage assistance (cart etc) available. Pictures made it appear right next to the beach but actually in the middle of houses and businesses. Beach 2 blocks down the road. Parking is a very tight underground 39 space garage. Full flight of stairs to ground level and “Lobby”. Hallway with a desk behind plexiglass Very loud tv behind closed door so there is a bell to ring to get staff out of back room. Do not recommend
Business trip
I stayed at this hotel when I had to work early morning hours. The place is clean and everything works properly. The free parking space is a plus for me.
The rooms were newly remodeled and very nice. The building is ok and the staff is not enthusiastic, but cordial. Location is good with the zoo across the street. Check out George's Zoo next door for sandwiches. New York deli vibe and Phil is great!
The room mini fridge did not work properly / fruit and veg were frozen and had to be thrown out. Bathroom faucet was faulty. Management was not friendly and welcoming.
The room wasn't very clean. Everything felt sticky and there was a used condom under the mattress. Wouldn't go back
The first room we were put in was dirty. It had obviously not been cleaned prior to our arrival. We found a pin in the bed and dirt all over the bathroom floor. The surfaces were sticky. I told the front desk and they gave us a new room. This one was slightly cleaner, the beds at least looked like they had been made. The bottle of shampoo and lotion had been previously used and again all the surfaces were sticky. Nothing seemed to be clean. Honestly I feel like I should have been charged far less than I was for the stay here.
I love cause it’s walkable from funston
This is one of the only hotel options in the Sunset neighborhood. Things you should know about this neighborhood, it is VERY residential, you will not be close to any of the typical SF tourist attractions, other than the zoo across the street. Java Beach on the corner is good for light meals and coffee. I didn't try the pizza place next door. I stayed here because my son is a student at SFSU and this is the closest hotel to his apartment. About this hotel: It is an older building that appears to be family owned and operated. The room wasn't fancy and I had zero view from my one window, but the room was very clean and I could tell it had been recently updated. The only thing that bothered me, was there was a gap under the door and I could see light coming in from the hallway, so I had to block it with a towel. It was very quiet at night, I didn't hear any noise from hallway or other rooms. I read other reviews that were not good, so I was a bit worried, but prepared myself. I brought my own tissues and throw blanket for my comfort. I also requested no housekeeping service during my 3 night stay and but I was offered towels if I needed them. When I checked in a friendly and polite young man named Matt assisted me. The parking is free and underground, it was clean and well lit. They did put a $250 hold on my credit card when I checked in, but I feel like that is standard at many hotels nowadays. I would definitely stay here again.
Surprised by the nice room
The hotel looks old and odd from the outside and the hallways. The rooms are remodeled and are quite nice and quiet. Great location too
Front desk staff was rude. Staff has no amenities to offer before check in. Did not allow early check in, strict 2pm check in. Room did not have hand soap, and towels were tossed on shelves disorganized
horrible
Terrible service by man and woman at desk. At 11pm, the heater made very loud noise, so I was transferred to another room (without apology at all) and then woke up at 6am to that rooms heater clanking! Parking spaces were ridiculously small and I drove a compact car. Terrible stay and will never return due to ignorance behind the counter. Be more pleasant in the USA!
Front staff was very rude, room walls were very thin could hear everything including the loud construction outside, a little out of the way as well.
I really love staff and how close it is to ocean beach!!! The rooms are very spacious, modern, and clean!!! There’s something very comforting about this inn! The bed was very comfortable and the rooms are sound proof! I didn’t hear a thing! Thank you Mirage Staff!!! I can’t wait to come back!!! THANK YOU!!!
Okay the rooms are decently priced. There is free parking which is nice and not usually included in a motel or hotel in San Francisco. Location is also nice being close to the zoo. However there is not much in the area in the way of restaurants there is a pizza place next door that wasn't open on the days I was visiting and the coffee joint is an excellent coffee joint but they close rather early in the afternoon but the open early in the morning which is good. However comment my three star rating is because the management are not very friendly, they look bothered to help you, there's a lot of noise going on and if I could hear it and if the managers live on the premises I shouldn't really have to complain about the noise they should have taken care of it. The room was basically pretty clean The shower needed work but I was able to get it to work enough to use it. If the room was for two people they should have enough coffee to make two cups of coffee they only had one coffee packet and one condiment packet. Again if you're in the hospitality business I should not have to ask for you these things if they're kept in the room.. I had two separate reservations because I decided that I wanted to come a day earlier and I was told I would need to check out and check in. However, I decided just to give up the second night and the non-refendible VI paid and get a different hotel since I had to travel up to San Jose for an appointment I just didn't feel like it was worth it to drive b
Plenty of parking in facility although a bit tight but right across the SF Zoo and a block from SF Ocean Beach. Very clean, modern and safe area.
Nice room, clean bathroom and bedding was good, not far from the beach 5min walk to it good area quiet too across the street is the zoo
Odd vibes.
Clean and comfortable
Went there for just an overnight stay, to do some fishing at ocean beach. I was pleasantly surprised by how clean the room was. Parking was super easy, and even the parking garage was clean. The bed was comfortable, and I slept great! My only complaint was with noise. While no fault of the owners, I could hear people walking around, and talking. Not sure what could be done to help that. But overall, it was a very nice stay.
Next to beach. The hallways feel like you’re in a jail.
Staff was acomidating. Very easy to deal with
the front desk manager is terrible. no greeting no smiling, very bad service
Decent place to stay
After trying to call to confirm my reservation and the man said he was busy checking someone in and that takes at least twenty minutes I was surprised when I arrived my check in was so fast. Anyway its a quiet and clean place to stay in a safer outlying neighborhood. The hot water does take a while to come up to the room I ran both the bathtub and hand basin faucets until the water was hot for my shower. I THINK THEY HAVE A MECHANICAL PROBLEM WITH A CIRCULATION PUMP IN THEIR HOT WATER SYSTEM But what do I know...
The room wasn't as sound proof as it should. I could hear every door open and every footstep in the hallway.
The lady that worked at the office was real disrespectful

I was told I am not allowed to park in the handicap parking spot even though I have a handy placer that I hang on my rear view mirror.
