I have stayed at the Iberostar Maya suites many times. This was my sixth time so obviously I continue to come back. The resort is beautiful and always clean. Most staff was amazing. We had a couple issues with the girls at the Star coffee shop both at the Lindo resort and at the Maya resort, young girls that were just a bit rude. The staff at the Maya lobby, including Raul and Kevin were awesome! For the most part, the food was good. The buffet at the Maya, (which is new) the seafood was incredible. Lots of lobster! The chef there was very nice. He came out and spoke to us. I believe his name was Oscar. The Mexican Restaurant that we were waiting to be seated at as we looked over the menu, It was definitely not an impressive menu. I’m very glad we did not stay because we talked to people later that evening who said they waited to be seated for over an hour and then waited for their food for over an hour and that it was pretty bad. So I’m glad we never ate there. The breakfast buffets are always incredible so much food to choose from and always good. So I highly recommend this resort!

This was my 1st time staying at an all-inclusive resort. Pros big property with nice beach & maybe pools. Con-Steak House needs to improve the taste of the food. Buffets and snack bars were better than restaurants on property. We went out several times for dinner to have a really good meal. We booked this resort for the activities for a 3 1/2-year-old. Sadly, he couldn't do much because of the water playground being broken the entire time & you have to be a certain height to ride the slides. Our Jr. Suite was nice & comfortable, but the shower needs some TLC. Staff was excellent! Very customer oriented.

It was great! The food was the only item at this resort that was average. I'd suggest going to the a la carte restaurants over the buffet. Otherwise, the place was amazing, the staff were amazing! Very nice place...

Great place. I would highly recommend it for a vacation

We had a great time staying at Maya, the property is just beautiful and they have a lot for kids to do there. We were never bored. It was super clean and the staff was amazing at keeping it that way. Food was great!

Great experience

The property and staff were great everywhere we went. We have a 6 and 4 year old and while there were plenty of fun things for them to do the food was not appropriate or always available for their age. Everything was a buffet. We could not get a reservation to the steak or Japanese restaurant in the 5 days we were there which were the 2 restaurants we knew our kids would enjoy the most. You would think quesadillas would be always on the menu but they were not. Most restaurants kids menus had 1 or 2 choices and because it was buffet you could not ask for a minor ingredient change or elimination. It was very frustrating and the kids ate very little which made them grumpy. The beach had the best options but was not open at night. We ate at the same Lindo buffet for 3 days and 4 meals straight.

Gorgeous, well run, fantastic pools and slides and a fabulous beach. Also, the food was excellent and there were several options to dine. Wish I’d stayed longer!

I’ve stayed in quite a few all-inclusive resorts in the area and this one was just meh. I was unimpressed with the food and the entertainment. The place is huge and connected to another resort which shares restaurants, etc. The room was missing a hairdryer. Our roll away never came. Our extra pillows never came. There are zero snacks in the room. There’s a bottle of wine in the room but no way to open it. There were zero reservations available for the 2 nice restaurants for any of the nights we were there. We waited 2 hours for the Italian restaurant because we didn’t want to eat at the buffet again. The seafood restaurant was not yummy. However, the rooms were clean, the beach was nice, there was food at the beach but only burgers and fries every day. There’s a bar at the beach but not really great waiters. We woke up at 6am to get chairs every day or we wouldn’t have had anywhere to sit at all. They seemed over booked and understaffed. We saw 2 fire shows while there…One was really good. My kids enjoyed the water slides. The Mexican buffet was fast and pretty good for a quick lunch. There’s plenty of shade around. The air conditioning in the rooms worked well. Honestly I enjoyed the Secrets, Excellence, Riu and Dreams resorts better.

Overall an Average resort with no night activities

Overall the resort is average. Food: Below Average Not many choices, especially for vegeterian. Also restaurant management is not good. While we were a large group of 20 people and we understand it is tough but even when we were ready to split the group overall reservation was painful and with every restaurant we had to escalate and talk to few people to make things happen. Lost a lot of time in it. Ambience: Average While the resort is huge with lots of good activities but at night it looks pretty dead. There is not enough lighting in the resort, no music playing or a central hangout place. The market place also closes very early so once it is dark it becomes a really boring place. Hence we had to go out of resort each night for some entertainment. Activities: Average Had lot of good day time activities like pool, beach volleyball, archery, golf, spa etc but there was nothing to do at night. Teenagers in our group got bored at night. Also for such a larger resort they need at least 2-3 beach volleyball set up. This one only had one.

We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of food and options we had. The only thing missing was the strawberries and bagel. The buffet was excellent, and all other fine dining was exceptional.

I loved everything and the property was beautiful and clean and service 10/10 but I have a complaint about the food i honestly give it a 3/10 it was not really all of that I get it all inclusive but at least the food should be good but other then that it was amazing.

The property is absolutely beautiful. The pools are clean, spacious and amazing. You got a wave pool, a lazy river, and slides to play in/on. The entertainment is awesome and the staff are top notch. Only place we'll come to stay at when visiting Riveria Maya.

Overall, the resort was, itself, very scenic, with fun and interesting activities for the whole family. The staff were patient and helpful. The main reason for the 3-star review is the fact that out of the group of seven, six got food poisoning in the first few days, including our 1-year-old, suggesting that, chances are, there’s some unsafe food handling and/or sanitation gaps at the resort that require attention. For example, when changing my baby in the men’s washroom, I saw one of the wait staff leave a stall after flushing and resume his job without washing his hands. I did consider that, perhaps, it could just be exposure to the tropics, but several of our group had previously been to Mexico and/or were from tropical countries. The water/ice is filtered and treated on-site so that was also ruled out. That said, if you eat “safe” foods, the resort is a really nice stay.

Got food poisoning after only eating on property for days. Then charged over $300 for their medical services which were solely needed because of their food. They then claimed we needed to prove it was their food to reimburse…awful customer service

Nice, clean, safe.

The resort itself is nice and it is clean. There are a lot of amenities on the resort and the staff plays lots of games. The staff is wonderful. They do not give you water bottles because they have a water filtration system. The water is safe to drink but it tastes absolutely terrible (definitely drink from the one of the many fruit infused options available). Breakfast is fine, typical buffet style. Lunch is a let down unless you like to eat burgers everyday. The dinners are WONDERFUL. Whether you are going to the buffet or one of the restaurants, you will not be let down. One downside to this resort is the towel situation. You check towels out with your room number. Almost every day when we were returning our towels, there was not worker there to check the towels back in. We weren't going to stand around and wait for someone to come back so we just dropped our towels into the towel drop and moved on with our day. This essentially meant the next round of checking towels out, they gave us the 3rd degree about the importance of checking them back in. Overall, we had a good enough time but this was our least favorite all inclusive we've been too.

Amazing place!

Great location with a lot of amenities. My kids loved the big water slide. But I will never do Iberostar again at this location or anywhere else. Restaurant and kitchen staff were excellent. Unfortunately the quality of food they had to serve was bad which is not their fault. We couldn’t book reservations for dinners because everything was booked out when we got there. Maintenance and grounds crew were friendly and engaging. There was one night where our room filled with ammonia gas so bad our eyes were burning (no idea where it came from). The maintenance crew resolved it right away. Beach staff was always great. Front desk crew was not helpful except on trying to sell you in to their rewards programs. Either that or they were preoccupied with their cellphones. There were a few nights where the music would be blasting past 10:00pm. Overall it was a pretty bad experience. It’s too bad because it’s an awesome and beautiful resort with a lot to offer. If it were not for the nice weather and warm water this holiday would have been a total bust.

Lovely place and relaxed. When we booked restuarant for 5 people but the booked only 2 people. confused on APP to booking restaurant. Disappointed one restaurant sell pizza only two days, Monday to Thursday closed??? Others are lovely

It was an amazing stay and experience overall. I wish some of the room setups would have had a separate bedroom. Also the jacuzzi bathtub did not work properly.

Some of the room amenities need upgrade and thorough cleaning.

I had higher expectations. The Maya hotel does not have great amenities. Not sure I can recommend to anyone. The chef at one of the hotels told our waiter that he thought we ordered too many dishes and he didn’t want to serve us what we order. We had 6 people at our table.

Lovely stay, can be quiet if you wish or can be as fun as you would like. Clean rooms, fiod is very good and always ready with a drink.

Awesome place for a family getaway. A lot of kid friendly activities (water park, play ground, daycare etc). Also a lot of bars and restaurants. Food could be better but a lot of options to be content. Room was cleaned everyday and spacious. Staff was polite. They will try to sell you the 'time share' just say someone already invited you and they won't bother you.

We stayed at the Paraíso Maya, the highest tear that we were able to stay 3 in a room (Grand was for adult/couples). It is a 5 hotel complex that shared the common areas like spa, gym, church, shopping mall. Depending on which tear you are in you have access to the different restaurants and pools. Food in the restaurants we tried was good with the exception of the Geisha (Japanese) and L’Etoile (French) which were not good. El Museo was the best, we went twice an I can say the is food was amazing. There is a good walk distance to anywhere pools and the beach. We were with my 80 year old mother who has some difficulty walking so it was challenging. They use golf carts to shorten the distance but most of them were for “socios” ( timeshare owners) or you would have to wait for more then 20 minutes sometimes. Shows like the Celebration of Mexican Independence was nice but again with no thought for an elderly person that may need to sit down. Room was nice, not new but in very good condition. It is a nice place. Would I go back? Not sure as it did not give me the wow factor. Would recommend, yes.

Each building has a concierge on the 1st floor. DO NOT get a room in front of the concierge. They set up early and gets noisy. Early in the morning you can hear them talking loudly with other employees, on the phone, and with guest. Overall, this is one of the better resorts I have stayed in Riviera Maya. Great selection in food, plenty of activities, and friendly employees.

Almost impossible to make reservations, the property was huge and to get something to eat for lunch and dinner you had to go to the other Linda’s buffet which was not good but better than the options at Maya. Limited kid options for food. Also my daughter needed bottled water to mix her milk and a bottle of water at the resort was 11 US dollars…

Great vacation choice for the whole family.

VIP doesn’t work - you are not able to schedule any good restaurant. Rooms are all the same - had issues with the first option and they wanted to downgrade us. Not what we were expecting but a good / normal resort.

Went with a group. Room service is very limited. No beach chairside service. There were shows, but it was very lame.

Wonderful family vacation with lots to do. The hotels are all spread apart within the resort but you can hitch a ride on the carts if you don’t like the walk, but we walked everywhere and enjoyed the views. Reservations were hard to get at the 2 restaurants that require them. We were able to get a last minute reservation for the hibachi one, which was absolutely amazing.

Unlike many of the other times we stayed with different Iberostar resorts, this time we had many issues from the very beging till the end. Starting with the booking process the person who picked up the phone at the hotel was rude and told me there was "nothing available" yet in Expidia there were many rooms available for this specific resort. The food was mediocre, we couldn't get dinner reservations to the restaurants in the resort because again "nothing available" yet the restaurants were almost empty during dinner time. There was no AC in the buffet areas so sweating while eating was the norm. In the restaurants that were first come first serve they told you 1-1.5 hrs and that they would call you when the table was ready. One of the nights we never got a call so went to the buffet, the next night we went back to check after 1 hr and the girl said "we called you and messaged you" yet I never received any calls or messages. Then she went on to say, "let me see what I can do for you since you missed your spot" as I looked around 8 out of the 35 available tables were occupied. Clearly there was avaliability but for some reason they made it seem as if everything was occupied. This seemed to be the reoccurring pattern this whole vacation at this resort, I'm not sure if they are having issues with staff or what the problem was but our amazingly positive previous experiences with Iberostar were compleatly crushed during this stay. I'm not sure we will be returning to Iberostar.

The property is kept up beautifully.

This was our third trip to Iberostar Paraiso Maya Suites because we are big fans and like the quality of the resort. Upon check in we informed the hotel that we were leaving early due to the hurricane. Expedia attempted to contact their reservations many times for a refund. We were informed by the hotel staff it should not be a problem. We were charged 4 NIGHTS that we did not stay. They refunded my brother, sister, and my father but not refund us. We tried to contact their customer service multiple times. We were LOYAL iberostar customers and this is unacceptable We will be disputing this charge. If you want good customer service and you want to be sure you are not overcharged DO NOT BOOK WITH IBEROSTAR.

Golf cart drivers are not friendly and they ignored visitors a lot

Lots of dining options. Large beach space, with free kayaks and catamarans. Lots of pools of varying size and popularity. The main could get pretty packed on nice days. Great service from staff and beautiful location.

Birthday Beach Trip

Good stay over all. Be prepared to walk quite a bit around the property as everything is spread out but doable (except when raining) Every type of restaurant available and buffets. The Greek was exceptional and sang to me for my Bday. A few took planing as they don’t take reservations but get quite busy. We ended up having to buy an $80.00 bottle of wine to get them to seat us at the Italian restaurant. We had tried the night before. you give them your number to text when they have something available (which they never did) ended up that night a the Mexican. Beach was nice and has loungers for guest but has a drop off and not the easiest to walk on. They do offer to take family pictures which was of course an extra fee which we opted for. The rest of the extras stuff we passed on. Do bring bug spray as there were mosquitoes in certain areas.

Good things: Fabiola at Star Cafe was always friendly when I would get my daily cappuccino, building 60, the lady who took care of my room Minerva was always sweet, and the young guys who served us at the breakfast area and the Mexican Restaurant during lunch were all great. The young kid by the towel stand was always kind as well. The entertainment by the pool, with the foam party and other afternoon activities, was excellent. The hotel has a natural beauty all around. Opportunities: the food was average everywhere, which was disappointing because Mexican cuisine is delicious. I was incredibly disappointed with the Steakhouse in which my steak was, La Geisha with dry sushi and broken vents making us sweat profusely, and the Italian one was dry and all around disappointing. It was just so bad that we would go to the buffet after. My jet tub was broken, and I complained three days in a row to the people sitting by our building, but there was no resolution.

There was an abundance of food and drink options. The staff was always very accommodating and helpful. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. I wish the dining areas were better cooled. Also all pool areas, the water was quite warm.

Wide variety of activities for every one. Clean and very well kept. I will be returning for my fourth visit in the future.

I liked the food at most restaurants. The pools were too warm…did not cool you off much. I have been to several resorts in area and this one was by far my least favorite. Waited on drinks often from unfriendly bar staff. I did not like the large resort…it was confusing even with maps and wasn’t as relaxing as resorts I’ve stayed in before. Needs to better communication from check-in staff regarding grounds and make sure guests are informed of all the need to know information.

The property is amazing. The food is on par with an all inclusive. Their mobile app is terrible which makes navigating useless, we simply explored the property to understand where everything is located.

We have so much fun there we will keep on going back or booking with Iberostar always. I do want to mention we travel alot and this resort meet all my expectations wow!! Iberostar Paraíso maya honestly takes first place. The entertainment, food and plenty for kids to do. Wow Iberostar is number one!!!!! Coming from someone who travels a lot . I will only stay with Iberostar hotels.

The resort was huge, but it was beautiful. We stayed at Maya Suites. The Suite was beautiful and clean. The grounds appeared meticulously maintained and were clean. There was beautiful wildlife at the resort. Also great oppurtinities for kids and family entertainment. The beach was also beautiful and well maintained The buffet food options were phenomenal. They also had great lunch places and hamburgers at the beach. I especially liked the Maya star cafe for coffee in the morning. The coffee was great. The bars including the big Maya bar were outstanding. My only complaint is that the restaurants are highly overrated. We had a subpar experience at La Merina Seafood restaurant. The food was essentially available at the buffet and they dont offer any selection of wines or drinks that you would expect given how much they talk up their restaurants. The servers dont seem to understand things. Same thing. at the Japanese Tepyanki restaurant. It was like a subpar Benihana...the restaurants are not really "high end" at all and just ok. In our experience the buffets were preferrable to the restaurants and the service was better. The restaurants are not worth the time.

Unable to book reservations for dinner at any of the restaurants, they were either at capacity or closed. Ate all meals in the buffet, food was very mediocre.

The cuisine was passable. We made use of the buffet. A la carte and reservations were required at other restaurants. The elevator was so tiny that my wife and I could hardly fit in with our strollers and kids. Water leaking from the shower. The refrigerator did not function. Nobody shown how to go around. Insufficient signs with detections. You're going to walk a lot. The distance to the beach was 1/2 mile. The water slides at the hotel I reserved for the kids' enjoyment were all broken. That's the only reason I went there. Pools were not very practical for small children. Never going back here again. Feel bad i spent so much money

This resort was very nice and perfect for a family vacation.

We loved our stay at Iberostar. The food was excellent and the staff was super friendly and helpful. The only thing I would say was the kids pool area was closed down for a few days and the AC wasn’t great. My niece got sick after the first night so we think it was the air coming from the ac. Other than that it’s a great resort for families

The physical property itself is nice. Flamingos , peacocks, and coati’s are amongst the property. There are many pools to choose from. My BIGGEST issue and concern is the sanitary means of the food being prepared. The cooks do not wear gloves , they flip pancakes and french toast with their bare hands, they touch various products while cooking, wipe face while cooking and touching the food. I’ve witnessed a cook coughing directly on the food while cooking without a mask or covering his mouth. The bartenders wore gloves which was odd considering that they do not touch anything directly. All food places are with bare hands from the cookies to the meat. Sandwiches are made and ripped in half by bare hands. Some waiters would grab a piece of food and eat while walking past the buffet and take your order. They ask about allergies yet there’s cross contamination as they are touching all items. Food is a major consideration for any vacation and the fact that I barely ate but paid close to 10k for our family is ridiculous. I’ve complained while there and nothing was done but an email once I got home stating that they would investigate. Pretty convenient now that I am home. The exterminator came to my room and brother’s room twice due to ants.

This is 5 star property with 1-star amenities and service. Food is 2-star, just stomach filling food. Not worth any upgrade in Room. I got a beach side Room ( 2step upgrade), got only trees in the back yard. It’s not worth staying in Maya vs Linda, just room size - nothing Else. Prepared to walk for Miles, Golf cart service is there but not easily accessible. Prepared to get up early morning by 7 am to get a pool side chair or beach chair. Everything is less relative to number of guests staying. Room itself is 2 star . I have. Stayed in better 3- star resorts. For less than half this price. If you plan to stay here , choose the least price available. More money not equals more enjoyment. Just like other reviews , people walking around to sell you something , especially star club.

Very safe, clean well kept property.

My son was attacked by a wild Coati while walking back to the hotel from the beach. There were no signs until after the incident. We had to spend a day in a Cancun ER to start his rabies vax. Hotel did nothing to accommodate us. Ended up costing me over a thousand US dollars. There should be signs posted through out the resort telling you not to walk with food in your hand. These Coatis are everywhere. You will see hundreds of them. Especially in the mangrove are between beach and hotel. They may be cute but they aren't scared of you. I’ve stayed at Iberostar resorts before and I’m surprised about this one’s lack of sympathy after my kid was hurt. My wife and I almost bought into the Iberostar program, glad we didn’t. They could have easily made this right but decided to ignore us.

I like the restaurant options and clean property.

Overall, good. The variety of food was very good, but the preparation can be better. I could not drink the coffee in the breakfast buffet perhaps. Staff was excellent. Everyone was very pleasant and provided great service. Well organized customer care, including transportation

I liked that there was plenty to do for everyone. Between the beach, pools, free beverage bars, water slides for the kids and comfortable chairs....we were very comfortable. Buffets were good, fresh looking and plentiful. We found that the individual dining rooms were not the best. The El Musiua (sp?) food was great but the waiters rushed us through. Rushing courses and taking food away before we had even tried some of it. We had to ask them to stop and leave the food. But thinking they were in a hurry due to another group of people coming....we ate quickly only to find out that there wasn't a second group coming. The Mexican dining hall....food was not good. We went back to the salad bar. The. mediterrain food was ok and staff was good. The meat dining hall (forgot the name)...portions were small, tough and wrong cuts of meat. Consequently we went back to the buffets but they were a bit noisy and hard to carry on a conversation. Staff was great at the buffets.

Great resort and facilities! The restaurants were all great too. There are lots of walking since the resort is huge so be prepared with good walking shoes or you have to wait for them to pick you up at certain stations and drop you off.

Terrible stay. Activities and Entertainment are nonexistent. Absolutely the most boring resort we have ever stayed in. The staff is hit or miss, some very friendly others completely and utterly rude. Food is not readily available. It’s absurd that a reservation needs to be made if eating at any restaurant in the hotel. Only the buffet and the cafe serves without reservations. It's also completely ridiculous that we didn’t get to eat a the restaurants that we wanted because they didn’t have space available. We attempted to make reservations since the moment we got there and they weren’t able to accommodate us our entire stay. Technically our “all inclusive” only included a buffet, cafe, and a nasty snack bar by the beach. If anyone insists on staying at this terrible hotel, do yourself a favor and get the Mar option, don’t waste your money like we did on the Maya option. This hotel has so much potential, it in deed is a very nice hotel. However it doesn’t matter if we can’t eat when and where we want. It’s also not worth it because the staff is untrained and has no idea what’s going on anywhere. They all give conflicting information about what he hotel. I do NOT recommend this place. It’s not worth it. Find somewhere else to stay and spend your hard earned money.

Check in was terrible. Too long. Stayed in this hotel three times. I had VIP benefits that was never offered to me. On top of it the guy at the concierge desk (main Maya lobby) Miguel was horrible. I went to book the restaurants and he told me “It’s not my job to do it. My job is sell you timeshare” Also, he said he can’t book more than two days ahead…it was lies. I came for a week before and had no issues booking restaurants for each of the day of my stay. This was total Welcome disappointment. Now, let’s talk good…The concierge in my building Andrea was AMAZING! So nice and helpful!! Thank you Andrea!!! HALLOWEEN BUFFET was phenomenal!!! I mean WOW! What a hard and amazing work stuff and cooks did. I never seen more beautiful and delicious buffet and I’m very well traveled to five stars resorts. Everyone was taking pictures and videos of it. Property grounds was great as always. Tropical paradise with tons of animals and gardens. Still one of my favorite resorts in Playa together with their Grand hotel.

Beautiful property with some great features, but plenty of opportunities to improve the experience. Rooms were great, staff were very helpful most of the time, evening dining options are very good. Pool area and entertainment for kids and adults is very good. Adult drink selection was good. Not so good: Complex is huge, perhaps a little too big,.10 minutes walk from reception to beach. Transportation around the complex was limited at times, found ourselves waiting 10 minutes for a golf cart to transport us, sometimes not available at all, even had transportation refused once or twice " not going that way" which is OK, but at least call in for a ride to come. Breakfast choice, evening meals and room service are good, but day time snacking is pretty much limited to the burger bar on the beach or pizza from one of the restaurants. You can't order snacks from the wait staff or take out from the restaurants when you are relaxing at the pool, not even chips and french fries. Beach bar ran out of french fries and icecream frequently. Wait service at the beach ranged from missing, to good, depending on the day. One single towel station for the entire complex, with book out and book in required. Attempts to push a timeshare on you, to be expected in a global hotelier, and not overly pushy. Overall it was good, but there are much better options available around the same price point in Playa or Cancun. We most likely would not return and would not rate in our top 5 resorts.

Installations in mint conditions. A service everywhere, anytime. Very nice experience.

We had a great time and the staff and restaurants were fantastic. The pools needs to be tended too throughout yeh day. By mid day they were extremely dirty, bugs, fruit from drinks, and gross stuff floating in them. The room was spacious, up to date and clean, the beach was beautiful and the grounds of the resort were lackluster.

we arrived and it took more than an hour and a half to complete the check in, they didn’t bring anything to drink or welcome us. Took us to our upgraded room, the only upgrade is that is a bit closer to the beach, the room AC worked terrible and the rooms were humid and sticky all through the stay. For dinners: there are places that are good like the French and some ok like Italian and Greek. The fine dining was terrible terrible. The lobster was raw. Lunch: well so let’s say that service is terrible generally and that includes how inconvenient it is to eat. If you are planning to relax all day at the beach and not move, then be prepared to eat some cold burgers or chicken wraps. They serve French fries, but those are limited to the first 10 people that arrive to order them. Once they are gone, they don’t refill them. If you want to go eat somewhere else, first you need to get dressed and dry and get ready to walk for at least 45 min to go and return to the beach. The transportation is terrible. The hotel excuses themselves saying that’s a subcontracted service, however I could not care less. I payed the hotel to provide an awesome experience, so if something doesn’t work they need to fix it. So for example: if you are in the mall and want to go to your room, you will need to wait 10 min to get your first cart that will take you to the lobby of your hotel and from there another 10-20 min for a cart to take you to your room.
