Nice hotel, with a few caveats
Overall I had a pleasant stay. The restaurant had good food but there was no room service. The room lacked decent ventilation and the windows could not be opened. Also, the TV did not allow devices to be plugged in. Otherwise, it’s conveniently located and the room was a great value for the price.
Excellent stay. The hotel is very modern and clean.
The hotel was beautiful and we had a lovely stay in a king bed room. Unfortunately the fan wasn’t functioning in the bathroom for showers or toilet use. Additionally, the area has a lot of homeless individuals hanging around outside the front of the hotel, but the hotel does have security usually standing right outside.
Perfect biz location
Perfect hotel for my biz trip. No line at elevators, room super comfortable and quiet, staff is nice and always available and everything is clean and functional. I will come back for sure
Very clean, comfortable beds, wonder decor, nice brunch place inside, wonderful staff
Right next to traders joes! Very walkable. Many places to eat around here. Close to all the shopping areas. Staff is very nice.
Wow, exceeded our expectations. The restaurant and bar and patio on the fourth floor was absolutely amazing. Wonderful drinks great service. Then to find out that we were not in the middle of the drugs and craziness but right next-door to Trader Joe’s . Steps away from Pete a block to the cable car and we could walk to the movies. What is not to love place was spotless… we would totally stay here again. The restaurant and bar was so unexpected and cozy with an outdoor fireplace… oh did I mention the parking underground parking that was spotless? Best I’ve ever had in the city. And I went to school there in the 80s this place was great.
Great location, clean rooms, comfy beds!
Fast and easy check in with pleasant staff. We were only staying in the city for one night but our stay was great, clean room with clean, comfy beds!
Liked being next door to Trader Joe’s!
Property was very well maintained and the room was great space and layout.
Terrible, worn down dirty room in a decent location.
Really convenient location and walkable to many nice sights in San Francisco. BART station right there. Trader Joe’s right there. Both were super convenient. The area right around hotel seemed a wee bit sketchy but I had no problems. Room was great. Common areas well maintained. Will definitely go back when in San Francisco.
The staff was very friendly and professional. This hotel is pretty big - so big that we got lost trying to find our room once we got off of the elevator. I think they could really do with some better and conspicuous wayfinding signage. The room was clean and spacious. The bathroom wallpaper was separating at the seam a bit, and I felt that they could have benefitted from a little more bleach in there. It seemed like there was no ventilation on the bathroom, which made for a lot of moisture in there. It was clean, but looked like it could use some maintenance. The area around the hotel was very busy and a little sketchy. If you walk a block or so in the wrong direction, you'll find a sketchy street scene that takes the award for the worst street I've ever seen. I don't think there was any time that I was outside of the hotel and felt calm or safe. Not the hotel's fault, but something to be aware of.
Great place
Friendly staff. Very noisy street.
Moldy Upgrade
When I checked in, I was notified that I had been given a room upgrade to one with a jacuzzi tub. Sounds amazing, right? Well, that night, when I went to enjoy the upgrade, I filled the tub up, turned on the jets and a bunch of black stuff shot out and floated on the water's surface. There was no way I would stick my arm in there to pull the drain, so I tried calling guest services. The number rang for 5 minutes straight, so I tried calling housekeeping, where I could only leave a voicemail. I called Guest Services again, and this time, after about 2 minutes of the phone ringing, someone answered, sounding annoyed that I had just made him answer the phone. It was a disgusting experience that ended with insulting staff. Not what I was expecting at all for the price of that room per night.
The restaurant inside of this hotel is swanky and the food is delicious
Unsafe area
Property is fine. Evening staff not friendly.
Smooth checkin and friendly staff. The location is super convenient. It’s an easy walk to the Ferry Building for the Saturday farmers market and to restaurants in Union Square and SOMA. There's even a Trader Joe’s right next door.
Was charged extra for charges that were not disclosed like valet parking at $55 a day and not allowed to park anywhere else but with the hotel
good
The staff was excellent! The room was perfect for two of us. Location is very walkable.
Overall decent and good,
We stayed for 15 days at Hotel Zelos and were very pleased with the accommodations and staff. Everyone from Jeffry and Amish at the front desk to Stephen in the cocktail bar to the housekeeping staff went above and beyond to make our stay a great one. The transportation, either on a bus, street car, cable car or train was merely steps away so we were able to explore the entire area, even on the ferries. Trader Joes is the next door down so getting snacks or breakfast or lunch in the room occasionally was a treat. The hotel next door allows Hotel Zellos guests to use their washer and dryer so for longer stays it is a great amenity. There are issues with homeless in Union Square but we were able to walk around safely, although after 8:00pm I recommend an Uber to get to restaurants. Overall it was a super trip!
Good and cool looking
Service at night was awesome, but in the morning was too rude
Wish breakfast was free and so expensive
upscale modern hotel
Room was clean with two double beds. But the room was not so big. Service was great.
Perfect home way from home.
Hotel Zelos is my home away from home whenever I'm in San Francisco. The rooms are comfortable and stylish, the restaurant is wonderful, and the staff are welcoming. It's also well located for shopping, food, and transit.
Nice stay!
Beautifully redone hotel in SF!
Bathtub didn’t drain despite telling staff multiple days it never got fixed. Bathrooms could use updating. Otherwise nice.
I arrived at this hotel following an international flight at 7pm PST ($70 USD Uber to get there). Following a 5-10min wait time to check-in (front desk personnel nowhere to be found), with another person waiting to check in behind me, I was told my room was unavailable or cancelled due to their overbooking. My own booking was arranged and paid for via Expedia over a month ago. Egregiously, the person waiting behind me was able to check in, no issue whatsoever. I was told Expedia was responsible in notifying me earlier that day of their abrupt cancellation, not themselves; and I was to be moved to a similar hotel 10 minutes away that required another Uber. They confirmed they had not tried to contact me directly. Though the other hotels Google rating was similar, both hotels showed to have a ton of dissatisfied comments and negative reviews. I asked to be refunded on the spot and decline their suggested accommodation. Nope, responsibility for a refund is through Expedia, not the hotel. As the hotel could provide another hotel in the city and the booking was done through Expedia, I would not be refunded. This hotel was a terrible guest experience, all in all. They made no attempt to remediate - no transportation to the next hotel, no vouchers, zero! The other hotel confirmed that at 5pm that day, they had been sent request to accommodate me as a guest! I recommend people allocate their money elsewhere. Read the fine print, and book directly with reputable hotels.
Needs an upgrade. One of two elevators out of service. Ice machines unavailable… one single staff person for all the guests at the lobby definitely insufficient.
Would stay here again
Nice spacious room and to our surpirise it had a jacuzzi tub! The front desk service was very good and we were given an early checkin and late check out. The Dirty Habit restaurant service was good in the mornings but the continental breakfast (free w/ voucher) could use an update. Each day they offered the same two croissants, fruit and muffin with juice or coffee. The room was great overall with the bed comfort being fair. I would stay her again. The location is great too, just 2 blocks from Union Square.
Very nice hotel
Great place
Nice place
It was a good stay , just wished everything was included in price like parking fee and hotel fees .
Great staff amaxing service really appreciate how they treated us
I had a short stay here while attending a conference at the Moscone Center (Zelos is incredibly convenient to both that and Union Square) and had a great experience. My king bed room was spacious, comfortable, clean, and the bathroom was well-stocked and clean as well. Check in and out were both super easy, and the in-house restaurant was really nice too. (The included continental breakfast is delicious - fresh-cooked pastries were the highlight!) I would definitely return to this hotel if attending any other events in that part of town.
Really liked this hotel but strongly encourage them to reconsider the scent they use in the front lobby. Our first two days were perfect, no scent one way or the other so to me that was great as it just seemed clean, not old, just clean. Day 3 the scent was so strong, out of the blue, that our group of 6 would rush to elevator and try not to breath in. The scent would even get trapped in the elevator with you. Please reconsider and be more scent aware or at the very least change to something milder. I don’t know how your front desk staff can tolerate it honestly. It would give an instant headache.
Property was great. Would have given 5 start except after second day there was an overwhelming scent in lobby like they had just changed some kind of air freshener but it
The staff are friendly and nice. The facility and the room are clean and I love the design of it. The breakfast options are great. We enjoyed the stay!
Disgusting Shower
There are few things more disgusting than a shower that doesn’t drain. Pulling around the legs is just wrong.
Hotel From Hell
Got to the Hotel for Starters no Valet no Parking got inside the Reception sucked the attendant was nasty place was overpriced ended up Staying at the Hilton less money put this place to shame real true disappointment
Great stay
Great location. Comfortable bed. Restaurant on the 5th floor served great food and cocktails. Easy access to public transportation and easy walking to many museums.
Great location, right by the train station and bus stop. With in a 5 min walk to trolleys and Union square. Some of the hotels in Union Square are striking so it is VERY loud. We could not hear anything! Great hotel in a fantastic location.
Staff were great!
The staff were all very friendly,
Good hotel
Staff were friendly and accommodating enough, but for a stay of 7 nights, housekeeping didn’t do a great job cleaning our rooms well and replenishing our amenities - hardly or we had to keep asking. We pay a nightly resort fee of almost $40 with tax included so you’d expect to get something for this. Reception staff were always very courteous and helpful so no complaints there. We loved the size of our room best of all - very spacious. We would probably stay here again just for the convenience of the Trader Joe’s right below. This is also a big plus for this hotel.
Excellent property. Will stay there again next time. Staff service is excellent
Compared to other places, when you make a reservation of the same type, the room and bed are smaller, and there is an additional cost that you don't even have to pay.
Excellent
The property was value for money. Unfortunately our room was immediately across from the hotel’s gym and the early morning and late evening pounding on the running machine was disrupting-but this wouldn’t be an issue for other rooms. Of more concern-and completely beyond the control of the hotel-was the very high numbers of severely drug affected people in the area.
Business trip.
Overall great stay. The hotel is very clean, modern, and well kept. Rooms are spacious and have large windows. The restaurant is excellent. It is close to the Moscone center (walkable). Would stay here again.
Great location, extremely easy to get to from SFO via BART. Lots of shopping options in the neighbourhood, and convenience of public transit to get around the city. Clean, roomy, quiet room with fluffy towels and attentive staff.
left our heart in San Fran…
nice place, staff was friendly - conveniently located next door to Trader Joe’s, short walking distance to most transits; we would stay here again, no doubt
It was a great stay. The staff are lovely and the location is convenient once you get over the homeless people living on every street. The hotel itself was wonderful!
Nice but nothing special
We were meeting family for just one night. This is really a "downtown" hotel. It felt a little cheap and well used. The people at the desk were wonderful and very helpful. The parking garage was incredibly clean, lit and safe underground.
Great space in Union Square
Extremely friendly stuff
The stuff was extremely friendly and helpful. Jeff, Jazmin and Michael (front desk stuff) were so nice and kind. They really wanted the guests to feel comfortable and welcome
I love the convenient location, the spacious room, and the historic building. It was great that Trader Joe is next door where we get our groceries every day. The problem is that the restaurant is right beneath our room and we always hear people talking. The worst part was the last night of our stay. There was a wedding and we heard loud music until 12:30 am.
Great lil gem of a spot, highly recommedn!
Went to the roof top terrace restaurant & bar. Great space and very private in the busy city, enjoyed the calm atmosphere. Enjoyed the creative cocktails and the food was quite good too !
There are a lot of hidden fees which we didn’t anticipate we were going to have to pay. Through hotel.com our stay said it would have been $400 but after we got to the hotel they charged us for little things like amenities guest fees tourism fees so it was almost $600. We also wanted to keep our car safe since the area around the hotel had a lot of homelessness so we paid extra for valet. Usually for valet you give them your ticket and they get the car for you but apparently in this hotel you have to go all the way down to the basement get your key from the attendant and drive your car out yourself to the front. Not a big issue but wish we knew that so we could have just parked in the public garage next door which was only $35 the whole night. The room itself was nice clean and comfortable. Just took us by surprise about the location, extra fees, and valet service.
Great stay!!!
We loved the stay. Centerally located and very clean hotel
Great location downtown. Within walking distance to the ferry building and fisherman’s wharf and Oracle Park if you don’t mind a longer walk. Bar and restaurant on site was really convenient.
Greta stay. Staff was helpful. The bar was great and the bartenders were amazing!
Fees that should be included in the room price, spa doesnt equal a bathtub from the 80s, and just overall over priced for what you get, i wouldnt recommend.
Fantastic hotel, Great location too, all was good.
Great property. Nice big clean well decores rooms. Great service. If you valet, realize that there is no one is standing outside. You park your car in the passenger loading zone and go inside. Area around the hotel at night gets quite and a bit unsafe
Great location close to MUNI/BART, nice room, clean
I booked a room here for the weekend and expected a top notch stay with top notch service. My room was clean and spacious upon arrival however my check in process lacked a skilled concierge team. For over $300 a night I expect a little help with my plethora of bags. No one offered to help me unload my vehicle and bring my things to my room. I had to roll a giant bell hop out myself and take my several suitcases to my room myself. Once I got the chance to finally fall asleep in my room, the smoke alarm batteries decided to go off. My service animal is trained to realize that sound is an emergency so we were abruptly woken up around 5:45am and we are currently still waiting for someone to fix the alarm so we can get back to our room in peace. I usually have much patience for human or machine error but it is now almost past 7am and 60 minutes to change some batteries is ridiculous. $300 a night and you can’t help me with my bags or check a smoke alarm in a timely manner? Probably won’t stay here again or recommend people to stay here. “Valet” is a strong word for what they provide. I’m thankful for the safe underground parking garage however “valet” suggests that they both take in and take out your vehicle. Here, I went to the basement parking garage to not be greeted by valet staff as he was busy taking a personal call while I needed his assistance. He gave me my key and kept my valet pass, which I was supposed to keep.
Nice rooms
Excelente costumer service
Location was great easy access to the buses and train from SFO. Hotel was clean and staff were amazing.
Jasmine at the front desk made us feel very welcome and valued.
Very pleased with how clean the hotel was
Was soo good! Thanks
Nice getaway
This hotel was way above our expectations - super cute rooms and a great bar/restaurant onsite. Great choice!
Very clean. Restaurant/bar was a little slow but drinks and food were good.
Close to Union Square and Trolley Turnaround at Powell Street. Friendly Staff and Unique Hotel.
Great!
Was well sealed from noise from the outside. Shower didn't drain well and the bath to shower knob did not close all the way. Worker was outside our room at 7am trying to work through a walkie talkie issue which woke us up. The hotel though is one of the nicer quality hotels I've stayed in. The age of the building is hard to cover as the bathroom/room felt a bit tilted likely just because the building has settled. Was nicely decorated with modern features and very cool art. I would stay here again.
Rooms were clean, service was great. Really enjoyed our stay.
We loved the speed of checkin, nice room and great, walkable, location.
Jeff at the front desk was fabulous, I can see why he’s mentioned a lot of reviews! Lovely hotel, our corner king was fantastic. The area has lots of transient people but they keep to themselves. Great area for site seeing.
Very comfy
I’m very particular about beds - this one was SO comfy, made me want to get one for myself. The hotel was very nicely appointed and reasonably priced. Only con was being able to hear my neighbor when the shower was on or toilet flushed. Other than that, great.
Jeff was amazing. Stay was comfortable and the restaurant was great! Would def stay again for a conference at the Marriott.
Main great thing was that it was conveniently located, which is perfect. The other good thing was the cost of valet parking was reasonable compared to other hotels nearby with basement parking. I thought the price was expensive for what we got, as the 2 x beds in room seemed smaller than double beds and the bathroom was part of the main room, where you entered and had a sliding door to close. It wasn’t private enough for me. No tea making facilities, no mini kettle, just a coffee pod machine. A free mini bottle of water, larger bottle left in room had a price tag on it. After travelling a long way, when you enter your room, you want to feel you can relax and have a drink but on arriving, our first thought was we need to find a shop. The young lady who checked us in wasn’t the most friendliest, however the gentleman who checked us out was very friendly and so was the valet parking attendant.
Location great. old hotel small rooms
Lamp in my room is run out, so my room was not bright
Travelling for some games
Had a great stay. Started with Jeff at the front desk who was a pleasure to deal with. Room was exactly what I needed. Clean room and bathroom, comfy bed and quiet other than the band playing on Market St. on Saturday afternoon. The in house bar/restaurant was quite nice with a great patio area. The purpose of my trip was a couple of Padre games at Oracle Park, was a 20-25 minute walk which seemed safe enough for a solo traveller. If ever back in San Fran, will definitely stay again.
Great hotel and the staff was very friendly.
The hotel was clean and comfortable, staff very friendly.
Enjoyed the hotel’s location in SOMA. Nice boutique hotel.
Good stay and affordable
Great location. Muni and cable cars nearby. TraderJoe’s for groceries right there. Good size rooms. Outside of windows in room needed cleaning Attendant in garage didn’t bother to offer assistance with luggage even after a sizable tip was given.

Great hotel. The area is challenged but the hotel and the staff was amazing. 6 stars.
