Great stay!
Very friendly and accommodating staff, felt really at home here and had a wonderful experience
Unique hotel- different vibe and coziness. Very friendly staff. Decoration brings you in another environment. Super relaxed, chill, with a touch of out of the box ideas,
Excellent stay for a first intro to the city! Walking distance to all of the luxury Union Square shopping, one street over from a car car ride, safe and walkable! Super cute sandwich/smoothie bar next door! Dope lobby, super nice amd helpful staff and ONE of the BEST BEDS I've ever slept! Super clean and CRISPY duvet and sheets! Only stayed for one night but wished i had more time.for a longer stay! Would definitely return and recommend!
It's 60's vibe was right on for our generation.
Close to the shopping District really cozy and close to shopoing, Chinatown, and Amazing restaurants!!
Nice boutique hotel near Union Square
Good option if you need to stay in this not very appetizing area (which isn't really the hotel's fault...). Small but nice, with sangria on arrival and water machines scattered throughout as well as a nice room and diner next door for breakfast. It's nothing fancy, but it's good value for the price.
Great Stay – Comfortable and Well-Managed
I had a fantastic stay at this hotel. Everything was excellent—the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, the beds were very comfortable, and the room was quiet and cozy. It truly felt like they thought of every little detail to make the stay enjoyable. I highly recommend it for a relaxing and well-thought-out experience!
Stayed here many times over the last 7-8 years. Super friendly and helpful staff…always accommodating and welcoming. Comfy beds…great decor…awesome bar and lounge area and good coffee shop right next door!
Fashionable hotel with a great flair for contemporary design and unique style
Friendly, accommodating staff.
Hotel was amazing. Loved the decor!!
Good but could be better
It was a very nice hotel, the only thing was the thinness of the walls as I was walking in the hallway and in the room we were staying, some rooms were very loud.
Funky, fun and friendly
Easy check in, nice lobby, simple, but elegant hotel.
Wonderful, boutique, hotel beautifully done with friendly and hopeful staff.
Beautiful lobby, warm and inviting. The room was a bit small, no where to put clothing other than wardrobe - needed drawers. Loud outside - could have used a noise machine.
Loved our time at the hotel, the staff were excellent and very helpful!
Funky decor, convenient location. Older building , no hot water one day, shoddy plumbing fixtures, super loud outside with picketing union workers across the street. Nice lounge area.
Great location, interesting vibe, very comfortable bed and helpful staff. Very good value for the price, I would be happy to stay here again.
Fun stay
Ever since I found the Emblem I always stay there and will keep staying here in the future. The staff is great, to coffee shop as well, the rooms are conformable and quiet, the hotel is funky, and the area is perfectly located. Far enough from the zombie apocalypse of Union Square, and close enough to walk to the financial district or embarcadero.
Love Emblem
My Wife and I love this Hotel and everything about it. We stay once a year and look forward to every trip.
Beautiful hotel. Great location and staff. A bit noisy outside and the hot water was a bit hot and miss. Overall great place to stay.
Really enjoyed our stay here. Central to a lot of different neighborhoods to check out in the city. Staff was very friendly and rooms were clean and comfortable. Easy walk to several great restaurants and bars
Staff were great and very accommodating. The property itself is wonderfully curated, clean and quiet for an old building. I would definitely recommend.
Great location and it’s an old building with a facelift that may need add new carpets at least for price charged per room Parking $75 it’s out of control…
I love boutique hotels offering something beyond a cookie-cutter, comfortable experience. We were mainly looking for a hotel that could provide both a coffee shop and a bar/lounge on property, and Hotel Emblem delivered perfectly on these along with a fantastic, quirky vibe. We loved the music in the lounge, the kind and helpful staff offering Sangria on check-in, and the delightful signature scent in the public areas. We also loved the extensive list of unusual amenities available even if we didn’t take advantage of most. Our very minor criticisms are that we would have appreciated better lighting in the room near the full-length mirror and also that the bathroom door closed on its own and couldn’t be held open to let steam out. However, these issues were very nominal and we wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.
Loved the vibe… housekeeping could come a bit later …!
Repeat customers
We keep coming back to this cute hotel with all the necessary amenities in a great location.
Very clean, friendly And responsive staff with cool, kid-friendly bar area in the lobby. Also a very good coffee shop attached. Close to buses, trains and cable cars. Wish there was more space for storing clothes. With two kids it was a bit tight living of our suitcases but fine for 3 days :)
The staff was pretentious and ingenuine.
Very cute and clean hotel with a fun theme and amazing service- will stay here again!
An awesome hotel with friendly staff, quirky amenities, perfectly clean and tidy, a super start to our trip. Highly recommend to anyone!
Excellent location, super friendly staff. Cool details.
Older building renovated in a cool eclectic style.
Lovely staff, helped us with understanding the public transport & enjoyed chatting to them in the bar. The room was great, clean & modern. A lovely boutique hotel in a great location
This place is great. I would stay here again. The staff is friendly and it doesn’t have the hotel feeling.
We loved our time at Hotel Emblem, fantastic property!! The staff was wonderful and the bar has a very cool vibe and we really enjoyed talking with the bartender, who was very nice and personable. Comfy bed, super clean and great location. Highly recommend!!
Hipster friendly facelift of an old hotel in downtown. Clean and quiet on the 4th floor. The room was nice and didn’t feel crammed like some other downtown hotel rooms. Highly recommend parking at a garage less than a block away for about 40/night.
This property was fantastic. Had charm. Was well cared for. Great staff. We were upgraded to a king bed upon arrival and offered sangria. The location is a 10/10, and the coffee shop downstairs was perfect to not have to walk anywhere first thing in the morning.
Spent 4 nights here over the summer with my son. Loved the hotel (quaint and quirky). Good location, where we could walk to a lot of things within 20 min or so, and various forms of transportation were nearby too. Nice little lobby/bar area to hang out in at night, clean rooms... and it really wasn't that expensive. If I come back to SF, would definitely stay here again.
Great price for the area and the room was very modern and clean.
Solid 5 stars for location, cleanliness, and staff. VIP access benefits were great! Thanks!
One of the coolest places to stay! The decor, the amenities, the staff, the bar, just wow!
Solid hotel just of Union Square. Nice coffee shop on ground floor.
Common areas not clean. Rooms very small
Spacious room. A bit dated. Excellent water pressure and temperature in shower. Water dispensers on each floor not working. Really great, friendly staff, thank you!
Staff was polite and courteous. Complimentary sangria upon checking in was nice. Hotel itself was in good condition. Important parts of the room were clean: the sheets/bedding and the bath towels. The floor could have used a better vacuuming as there were visible crumbs or something at the foot of the bed, and there were greasy handprints on the exterior of the wardrobe and the inside of the bathroom door. It wasn't a deal-breaker so we didn't mention it (we were only there for a day and a half/two nights). It was within walking distance of The Dragon Gate and Union Square. I can't speak to public transit as we took Waymo or walked everywhere (walked to the SF Ferry Terminal and it took about 20 minutes). Overall a good deal and good location, room could have just had a better cleaning.
Characterful hotel with stylish, quirky decor and good sized rooms. Great cocktail lounge. Would recommend!
The service was exceptional. We travelled with a larger group and they ensured we were all on the same floor. Everyone was friendly and the welcome sangria was delicious.
Great place to stay in downtown SF!
The hotel was stylish and in a fantastic location. The staff were welcoming and our room was lovely. Unfortunately, the shower was disappointing; the water pressure was weak and it didn't function properly.
Great location
Great location, friendly and helpful staff, fun decor!
When we arrive I was lost as to where to park and check in person came out to tell us how valet work or where we could self park. They honor our Expedia Gold with a complimentary room upgrade and waived or resort fee. The room was big and clean. The area is nice and walkable. We ate at Cesarios and Honey Honey Creperie and both were amazing, I would go back and stay here. Beautiful place.
All of the review were correct this is a gem of a hotel. Close to union square and walkable to everywhere you want within 30 minutes and 10 minutes walk to train and trolley car
Staff are friendly and welcoming but the area is quite unsafe and the staff aren’t very vigilant about who is coming in and out of the hotel and heading directly to the lifts. Hotel in itself is nice and how it appears on the website. Bar area is nice to sit in also. Overall we had a nice stay, just felt a little unsafe when stepping outside, this is no fault of the hotel.
Great property. Accessible to many part of the city. It was also very well designed and had a cool lobb/bar.
Very clean and well appointed hotel
Creative decor & super friendly staff. Gitanjali made check-in a breeze and automatically added our Gold member room upgrade and waived resort fee. She offered us delicious welcome sangrias as well. I was concerned that it was a little noisy (coming from a block or so over) while going to sleep, but it soon quieted down and I had a wonderful night of rest. I don’t fault the hotel for this. I would definitely stay here again.
The location is everything! Also love the decor. Very artsy!
Top notch hotel in a great location. I loved being within walking distance of the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit?) down at Powell Street Station. From there i could get anywhere! To Oracle Park, Fishermans Wharf, you name it. Plus there is a really cool old fashioned cable car that originates at Powell St Station and goes all the way down to the Fisherman ‘s Wharf area. Lots of places to eat and shop around the hotel. Drug store almost across the street. Lots of liquor stores close by. Car rentals nearby. You can catch the popular bigbus hop off, hop on tour bus in nearby union square. Everything u could possibly need is right around the hotel. The Hotel itself is AMAZING. Super friendly helpful front desk staff. Rooms are super clean and well appointed but i wouldnt say the rooms are big. Comfortable bed and pillows. Beautiful walk-in shower with excellent pressure and hot water. Room had a safe. And the clock radio doubled as a bluetooth speaker so you could stream your tunes thru it. Loved that. Excellent “Regal Beagle” lobby bar on the main floor, but not open very late. And they do have a happy hour. Really cool vibe to this place all around. Its themed around the “beat” generation. I found the music playing down in the regal beagle bar (i think its actually called “obscenity”) to be incredible. Lots of cool late 70’s early 80’s post punk. Fantastic decor in this hotel everywhere u look. And the staff was so friendly and kind. Especially Orion and Lourdes.
Lovely property
Cool littoe hotel with a good vibe. We loved the modern, vlassic quirky touches and little nites in iur room.
Love the book theme and borrowing a typewriter was very cool
Comfortable room with excellent shower and very quiet. Convenient location near union square. Very helpful and accommodating staff.
The staff at this hotel was beyond helpful, they had lots of good information to share and were accommodating to any need you might have.
Nice
The hotel was beautiful and thoughtful and we loved our stay. The staff was friendly and made check in/out and valeting our car smooth and easy. Would definitely come again.
Lovely place to stay. The staff were friendly and helpful, and they had a lot of extras available for the room.
Excellent stay
Perfect stay overall. The hotel is stylish, comfortable and close to everywhere we wanted to be.
Quirky, well equipped & memorable hotel in a very convenient downtown location. My go-to now when in SF
Good location even though it gets very unpleasant later at night. More of a city problem than hotel’s fault. Staff are exceptional. The rooms are big. Nice decor. Great bed and fantastic bathroom.
Lots going on still at 10 pm on a Tuesday when I arrived. Front desk was attentive, saved my room, super friendly and a big thumbs up. Room is quite nice, certainly does the job. Minibar is pretty reasonably priced, may actually partake.
We had a great stay at Hotel Emblem. The staff were very helpful and responsive and the hotel had a cool unique atmosphere.
Staff is the absolute best. Cool and unorthodox amenities.
I liked the unique '50s character of the hotel. Friendly service. Quiet. Well located for access to public transit (buses, cable cars, etc.) Central, near tourist attractions and amenities. Walkable. Good restaurants nearby.
Great hotel, but I would avoid Tenderloin area
Great hotel, newly updated amenities were appreciated. We tried to check in early and were excited when we were informed there was a room ready, sadly they charged us for early check in. I think if there is a room available it would be nothing to just allow guests in without a fee. Disappointing. That aside, I would recommend this hotel. I haven’t been to Tenderloin area in about 6/7 years, but the homelessness and addictions have become such a problem. Nothing against Hotel Emblem but good to be aware of what to expect out of the area that it is located. There was no concern for safety within the hotel and the doors are locked after dark to anyone without a hotel key, but it is still very uneasy to walk out and see people loitering every half block. Do your research on the area in advance 😊
Within union square. Easy to find. Nice area
Funky hotel
Funky hotel, great service at the front desk. It is a historical old building so expect some notice coming from the floors. They did hook me up with a quiet room facing away from the street when I requested it so thank you very much. Excellent coffe shop on the lobby.
The Emblem, which was previously the Rex Hotel has been beautifully remodeled. It remains writer themed, now celebrating the Beat era. Beat poetry is featured on the walls in the rooms. There is a pleasant staff. There is what appears to be a very nice bar, although I did not visit it. It is located a block from Union Square and the Powell Street cable car, three blocks to BART, so access to lots of famous tourist locations. A couple of annoying details. There are no drawers in which store clothing. The shower head, a rain head type, is six feet up. There is also a handheld shower head but the switch is also six feet up, too high for a short person to reach. The coffee maker is annoying but on the plus side there is an excellent coffee shop next door.
Really loved my 4-day stay! This is a great part of the city, close to shopping and restos, and safe to walk around day and night. The staff were especially warm and wonderful — shout out to Panda and Lourdes!
Great location near to union square. Couldn’t get anyone to help with luggage on arrival. Walls quite thin
Great location. Great service. Could use a few amenities such as a refrigerator and ice machine.
Great location, and rooms were larger than expected for central San Francisco.
Excellent property and a great choice for a weekend in the city.
We had a great stay, and enjoyed the hospitality provided by the staff
near to all restaurant, sites to see. what i don’t like no parking for the guest too much charge for the valet. all the workers are nice
Excellent small hotel located within a 5 minute walk of union square....the room was large, clean, and really fun to be in....the hotel has a modern bar and a wonderful coffee shop.
Staff were friendly and facilities clean.
Location
Fun and hip
Great stay just wish I knew how paper thin the windows were. You could hear everything going on outside at all hours of the night. Staff was friendly. Place was super neat, clean and the vibes were amazing.
Location was good Cafe was really good Staff were helpful
The room was very small and no convenient outlets for charging phones. It was difficult for two adults with two large suitcases to find a place for everything. The room had an old smell to it even though it was updated. The area is fairly okay lots of dining options but not too far away there is some worse areas. The refrigerator was already packed full of their pop which we didn't use because it was $4 a can. There was no microwave which also was a little frustrating. At the end of the stay many fees were tacked on that we were not aware of including some kind of $29 Urban fee for each night which significantly raised the price of the hotel.
Beatnik History Paradise
I love this hotel! I've stayed there many times now. They have very unique specialty amenities (listed on the bulletin board in-room), including a record player with records brought in, a typewriter to write postcards and send them, or a diffuser for example. It's a very special hotel because of the focus on commemorating old San Francisco beatnik culture. The period of time of its rise was a unique time in CA history that had lasting impact on various subcultures across the USA, and SF was the epicenter of this movement. The lounge is lovely to relax in, enjoy a drink, and the current cafe attached has very fresh and tasty quintessential California cuisine bites like salmon feta salad and avocado toast. The hotel is close to many landmarks in the City, including Union Square, various museums, and also not far from Coit Tower.
Hotel Emblem provided great accommodations during my visit to San Francisco. It’s smack in the middle of downtown so it gets a little noisy with traffic but I enjoyed my stay. I would definitely stay there again. My favorite thing about my stay was the staff. Everyone was so pleasant and eager to make our stay wonderful.
The hotel was awesome! An easy walk to the Masonic which was for a death metal show! The room was very nice and quiet. Would highly recommend!
Great Stay!
Great Stay! Friendly staff, comfortable beds, fun decor. Great location! Will go back and recommend to friends and family!
