the staff were very friendly and helpful, advising us on where to go in the local area. The room was basic but worth the money, the food was lovely.
Run down
Room hasnt been maintained for decades. More like a bad hostel than a hotel. Smashed tiles in bathroom. Water not drinking water, relying on bottled water being supplied. Dingy. Shower unuseable because of rosk of scalding.
A lovely "get away" hotel
sat nav was really needed to find this unique hotel but well worth the effort to find it. an ideal location for touring the delights of central Wales.
Not What I Expected
When booking my stay I was quite impressed with the Gregynog Hall website profile and looking forward to my stay and visiting the Hall on my short trip. I was disappointed when I arrived at the Hall, firstly the room allocated was in the courtyard and that the Hall itself was locked an no access allowed on that particular weekend. There was nothing on the website to say that the Hall would be closed on the weekend and when I did raise a complaint directly, they were very unhelpful.
Beautiful Hall and grounds
Gregynog Hall and the surrounding estate is beautiful, and we felt really lucky to be staying there. I would love to return to spend more time exploring the trails and wildlife. We stayed in a room in the courtyard, near the café, which was a little basic (tiny TV, and the water pressure in the shower was pretty terrible), but clean and comfortable. I particularly appreciated that a room for three adults was available (we were travelling with our 18 year old son) and also allowed our two dogs to stay with us. The breakfast was great, and we enjoyed exploring the beautiful local countryside, despite the rain!
Brilliant hotel and staff are extremely friendly helpful and polite
Sadly no evening meal. Had to drive 5 miles to eat. Beautiful surrpundongs
Peaceful countryside retreat
Grounds & surroundings were beautiful, the hall is a lovely building with a lovely courtyard containing a shop/reception & a cafe (only open til 5pm summertime & earlier in winter). There is no restaurant as such, dinner is by prior appointment only & not an open affair,so alternate arrangements may need to be made The nearest place is Newtown about 10 mins drive away, breakfast is in the main house on the first floor. The hotel has no Front Desk service so you need to contact the hotel 48hrs prior to arrival to arrange check in as the desk finishes at 5pm. All of these things need to be considered but this is a lovely quiet place for walks in the countryside and I would stay again.
Very out of the way. Lovely venue and grounds. Disappointing. Evening meals need to be booked in advance.
The drive up to the hall is lovely and I was very impressed by the approach and the hall itself. My room was comfortable and I was happy with my accommodation apart from the tiny portable TV. I never thought I would never complain about a TV but it was very small! I hadn't done my homework before going as I had booked quickly so I wasn't aware that the café closed at 4.30 and up to this time only sold cakes in the afternoon. After a long drive I had to get back in the car and go to Tesco in Newtown 5 miles away. I had my 'picnic' on one of the picnic benches in the grounds and it was beautiful with a little squirrel running around, all was forgiven! My breakfast was lovely and a nice touch was having my name on the table. The staff were very accommodating and helpful . Overall I would definitely go back!
Old World Charm
From the out set we were made to feel welcome by the staff. The breakfast, be warned, is large. The cooked breakfast consisted in the main of two of everything, definitely not for someone on a diet! An excellent start to the day. The room was basic but comfortable, the only downside being the size of the television. Overall the staff could not do enough for you. We were shown around the house by one of the managers which in itself was a treat. Given the size of the grounds you do not really need to venture far from the house to be in seclusion. Definitely a place that we would be more than happy to stay at again.
Basic Place
Hotel room was clean and tidy but very basic and in poor overall condition in terms of décor. No phone signal or wifi in room so not good for business travel. Nice old building and gardens but that's it really.
The staff were really friendly and helpful. It was a shame guests have to walk through the back of the hotel instead of through the amazing front entrance which would give a real Wow! factor to the stay.
