I’ve never been scared to the many hotels I hopped into so far. Yet the moment I entered my standard room here, I felt scared. Maybe because there’s no wall and the room looked very old, the wardrobe, tables and the paint on the wall’s needs to be repainted. Not sure if this is the remnant of the covid outbreak though. it took a long time for me to adjust to the place’s feel of safety. The water heating works fine and so with the fridge. I asked the staff if I could changed into a room with a window but he told me the one I’m in will be a quiet room suitable for me to have uninterrupted sleep as I am just staying for the night. I heeded his advise and took the room in. Eventually after 5-6 hours I felt safe and therefore was able to shower, rest & sleep. Overall, average. But I think, if it will be repainted/renovated for windows, it will be excellent!
Though the overall property and condition of the hotel could be improved, the staff were very friendly and ready to assist at all times.
Very hospitable Host
the staff was great
Very central to everything in Aucland CBD
Handy location, very friendly staff, great to have a game of pool at the end of the night as well.
Property wasn’t in best state but staff were friendly & helpful.
central to everything
Don’t stay here
Dirty and stinky. We had to air out the room for hours. It looked like it had not been rented for a while and the surfaces were dusty. The sheets seemed clean but the bathroom floor was dirty as well as the toilet and there was soap all over the shower area. The facilities are old and falling apart. The doors and walls are thin and we couldn’t sleep because we heard the other guests arguing, coming and going in the middle of the night, and other things… for the price a disappointment. Checkout time is 10 which is fairly early, especially if you don’t get a good night’s sleep. The hotel is basically a sports bar. Don’t stay here! For the price, you can find something better.
Our experience at Hotel Albion in Auckland was notably pleasant. The staff were incredibly accommodating and helpful, allowing us to store our luggage before check-in. This gesture was particularly beneficial during our honeymoon, granting us the freedom to explore the city. The hotel's central location was ideal, providing easy access to Auckland's attractions, allowing us to immerse ourselves in the city's charm effortlessly. However, while our overall stay was enjoyable, it's worth noting that we would have appreciated a few more towels in the room. Nevertheless, the room was clean and well-maintained, ensuring a comfortable stay. The standout feature of Hotel Albion was undoubtedly the staff's hospitality. Their willingness to assist and their friendly demeanor added a pleasant touch to our experience. In summary, Hotel Albion offers a convenient and comfortable stay, thanks to its central location and the welcoming nature of its staff.
Great place to stay highly recommend
Don’t just blindly trust the pictures they are showcasing on the application. The reality is quite different and I’m sure you won’t appreciate that kind of service.
The location of the property close to the Sky Tower and busses was excellent. Room was not dirty but one step above a hostel. We did get some help carrying our luggage up and down the stairs (no elevator). Room was shabby, electrical not connected to wall, plumbing loose, housekeeping sporadic, often no staff available. With all this, it wa not a bad stay considering the cost.
I slept with the aircon on. Next thing I realise that the aircon was leaking with my bag on the table (table was under the aircon) drenched from the leakage with all my clothes wet but also with the cables around the table had been wet. Ive sent the hotel an email with photos and videos asking for a refund. It’s been a day and no response
It was nice and quiet.
Being in the centre of Auckland is a plus for this hotel. However the photos are deceiving and this is really just a hostel type place. Good for a nights cheap stay.
Cool old building, the bar tenders were SUPER nice will definitely go back just to see the staff again!
The location is super for access to buses. Could barely get in the front door with my backpack and once at reception after they buzzed me in, no one was there.
Expected noise but didn't expect smoke
Great location but old. Our room had a door that opened into the fire stairs and for some reason cigarette smoke could be smelt in the room. Even on a wednesday night the music pumped past 1.00am. Toilet made random gurgling noises throughout the night. Soundproofing could be improved.
Karaoke in the bar downstairs till late. Broken fixtures in bathroom and dripping water on floor from toilet
It was very convenient
This place was suitable for our intended stay making it convenient to shops & entertainment 👍👍👍
I really only stayed here as an overnight between buses. Very convenient if you are travelling as the main bus terminal is right across the road. As is the casino , and there is a bar attached to the hotel as well which is also a bonus. Only downside is the stairs, but is you want convenient it’s a easy sacrifice to make. Room is tidy, tiny bit of outside noise due to it being located on a main intersection but not overwhelming that you can’t sleep.
Dont stay there
Had to stay at the top floor which had no elevator, stairs were hard to walk up couldn’t find entrance had to go to the bar room was cold tape was running couldnt stop it, it was terrible
While they're clearly doing some work, bathroom was nice and clean, the issue that really needs some work, are the windows. They do nothing to block out the sound of the outside, it sounded like they were open. I managed about 2 hours of sleep as every single car sounded like it was right beside me, and the location of this is a very busy road.
Dated. Steep stairs.
All good
I was quite disappointed with the quality of the room for the price that we paid. There was serious mould on the ceiling, a hole in the wall and electrics hanging out of light fittings.
Very disappointed my partner left $600 under the bed an after we left an went to another motel he realised that he had forgotten to get money, went back to get it an it was gone, the guy who I asked regarding searching the room was a ride prick an his reply after me getting very angry about him not wanting to go an look for me was,,, well my cleaning ladies have probably found it so it's gone,, how damn rude,,Parking was terrible our car had been broken into an trash everything inside after stealing clothing shoes an alcohol...
Close to city centre and sky tower as we were staying for fire fighter stair climb challenge. Wouldn't rate as 3 star but it was sufficient for our purposes .
Katherine
Great stay for the price we paid. Got to enjoy a night out in the middle of town. Great location on a budget.
Big room and extremely comfortable bed, bathtub was a bonus. Could do with more towels though.
Staff were helpful and room was clean, could do with being repainted and no air conditioning but a fan was provided
Like the old building. Dont like the old toilets in the Bar.
I found the staff friendly and very help full, but its a work in progress and when finished it will rock.
Very run down property. Bathrooms were from the 60's strained and in a horrible state. Rooms on street side is very noisy until the bar downstairs closes at 3am. Had to hunt down staff to assist me. Reception was always closed. No management presence at all.
Poor service
No elevator, no air con, holes in walls in room, no sky tv
Underwhelming at best
I was quite surprised about this hotel. It’s in a good location, but the facilities inside are quite old. My room was clean, but it didn’t have a window. It had some kind of a skylight. Not exactly the kind of accommodation I am used to.
Central location, comfy bed & great pillows, bar downstairs
VERY basic accomm.no drop off area so hard to bring in stuff.everything worn out very basic facilities such as shower and bath from 1980,s.bed clean but underneath dirty.needs refurb.very noisy spot but expected that.
Good location and fairly clean. Just a little dust. No elevators was the only disappointment but it’s a nice old building.
Very dated & could be a bit tidier. Good location but noisy due to traffic.
There was nothing really in the room like washing up liquid so i couldnt clean the dishes i used.
It had a nice exterior and was mostly quiet, but we did had to climb Around 6 flights of stairs for the room we were given. The walls were slightly thin and you may need to ask for a hairdryer at the reception or at the bar since we didn’t find one in the room. The room overall was decent despite there being only an electric fan and old and loud mattresses. The bathroom itself is fine, except for there being a broken soap tray. The built in television had to be unplugged due to it not having stable connection. It is however a good place to stay in for around 1-3 days.
Staff were fantastic. Room was clean and tidy. Unfortunately one of the clean towels had a band aid laundered with it and was stuck to the towel.
A tired and dated property in much need of a serious fix up... if you are after cheap and cheerful it could be right up your alley but don't expect air con, a good bathroom or a quiet nights sleep.
Given the price, it wasn't a surprise that the room was somewhat dated and shabby. However... the bed was extremely comfortable and shower pressure excellent.
The hotel was rated as a 3-star facility, but I consider that even 1-star would be generous. The following list are the disappointments: no elevator ( fortunately, only 3 floors up); 2 lights did not work and the night staff did not have replacement bulbs! The telephone had no line signal. Only one small bar of soap for two guests. Loud street noise. No air conditioning! Bathroom not well ventilated and the window was closed shut and could not be opened. All in all, this was the worst hotel that I have ever seen!
The photos were terribly misleading and the lack of aircon was hopeless. The noise from the road was terrible being on a corner and the star rating was so misleading to the nth degree. Such a misleading experience and this is not the first time Expedia have done so. A complete rip off at any price
Nice place to stay in nice and friendly staff room was warm and cozy and the bar was really nice and welcoming with good selection of food and drinks
Friendly staff, comfortable room. Very basic and dated but clean. Quite noisy from traffic but close walk to viaduct 15 mins
Shower in the bath setup wasnt so great. I couldnt open my windows as they were slide ups and had nothing to prop or keep them open with.
Great location and friendly staff, needs a good paint job.
Great location but the rooms need updating.
Staff were very accommodating and friendly. The only problem is that the rooms need painting and some furniture in our room needs throwing out as it was falling apart. Other than that it was good value for money and very central.
Great location.
For a couple of nights it is fine. Rooms need revamping. It is quite noisy as it is a busy street. You need your earplugs. Staff is super nice.
Staff were friendly. Rooms were very small. Everything is old and requires updating. Windows either didn't open or didn't lock. Very hot with no air conditioning. Hair conditioning provided but no shampoo. Not enough milk for coffee. Lights in odd places. Shower tiny and old. Pub below had airy feeling.
overpriced for a old pub. average service and grumpy
all the workers were good and friendly...liked the bed..staying extra night..very good location
It's horrible to stay, no AC or fans, room with fungi
No elevator Dirty rooms Shower didn’t work No parking facilities Very noisy
Great location
Very central, great value for money
The front desk was not manned during our stay, the property could do with some repairs to the bathroom.
Great location.. probably the only positive thing. Everything else it's just fine for that money.
Avoid - made my skin crawl
This was a terrible stay. The room was tiny and very dated, the bathroom was mouldy, and the room was very noisy - a combination of a large gap underneath the door into the corridor, and very thin windows out to a busy junction outside. The room wasn’t clean - under the bed were a large collection of toenail clippings, an empty water bottle and a shirt left from a previous stay. The mattress had collapsed in the middle and needed replacing. Would have moved elsewhere for our second night had other places not been booked up.
Old but welcoming
First off, the location is good. Skybus stops just down the hill on Wellesley Ave. This is an old hotel with a good pub on the ground floor with a great barkeep. There is no elevator and we were put on the 3rd floor (top floor) but changed to the 1st floor right away because we preferred single beds over the double bed on the 3rd floor. There is nothing "modern" about the fixtures though or room 107 bathroom was very serviceable with a tub/shower combination. It and the sink and toilet were pink. The beds were soft. No air conditioning so we put the window up but then smoke comes in from the smokers standing outside the bar! Nevertheless, we still enjoyed our stay!
Fine for the night and it has a bar
We travelled to Auckland for the U2 concert. The receptionist was very friendly and let us hold our bags until check-in time as we arrived early. The room was fine, hence we only spent 4 or 5 hours in the room. The only downfall was when we came back to check in later, the room wasn't ready and we were on a time limit to get ready for the concert. The cleaning ladies seemed very busy and were lunching and told us that room not ready so we started getting changed in the bar toliets. Enjoyed the bar downstairs- we were able to grab a couple drinks while waiting for our room
Not very nice
Was looked out of the hotel after getting back frommour night out took over 30min to get back into our room.. room was way to hot witj not even a fan to use..
Summary of stay at the Albion
Rooms dated even though obvious refurbishment taking place. Stairs to four levels only way there is no lift so bags need to be carried up very steep stairs. Staff very helpful they help carry luggage up. Bar food excellent they do have coffee and it is good. Toilets in bar very clean. Noise from Street can be very loud. Hotel noise not a problem.
fantastic location and great pub downstairs. The rooms were very basic, but sufficient for an overnight stay. Rooms, bathrooms especially, need a bit of work.
Love the history and character of the building. Happy to sacrifice some mode cons like a lift and air con but would like the bathrooms nicer and at lest a fan in summer.
No parking at hotel, reception is the bar, noisy and loud
It was very convinient for me to catch my bus home from Auckland
Basic Accom, good price for the city, I paid for what I got
most of the tv channels did not seem to be working. pixelated or worse. tv1 was good tho.
I liked how cheerful the bargirl/receptionist was (she is wonderful) and the room was really clean. I liked the retro bath. I'd stay again but do be warned it is very noisy - you hear all the sounds from the street. However I accept that because of its price point.
The place was under reconstruction and they never told me. Instead, they put me up in an Ecolodge down the street. It was a really basic cheap tourist hotel that didn't even have central heat (July is deep winter in New Zealand). The difference in the price of the rooms was $30/night. When I asked for it he only gave me $5.
A bit runned down with only basic amenities. Renovation in progress upstairs. Hotel service personnel was helpful and polite except that they are not stationed at reception all the time.
Above a bar. There had been a leak the night before and water damage everywhere. While there was free wifi, none of the power outlets in the room worked
The bed linen (sheets) were clean but the the valance had a dodgy stain. Weird wet patch on floor outside my bedroom. Very noisy even though I had no windows. Overall very tired, run-down and dirty.
Great location but hotel is very old
Great location but hotel is very old. The room doesn't look good.
The age of the building really shows through, with weird & inconsistent bathroom fittings, and a lack of air conditioning & sound-proofing. The lack of an elevator is frustrating (but it is a historic building, so there's nothing to be done). HOWEVER, the service is impeccable .The staff consistently went above and beyond to help us out. They were friendly and helpful and considerate.
Good location and good food. Close to the shopping centre. The staff was friendly. The room definitely requires renovating and the bathroom looks like the 1950’s. The shower definitely requires refurbishing. Very noisy as our room was on the first floor and we heard noises from the party persons and the ambulance outside all night. Needless to say although the price was cheap we got very little sleep.
This place was in desperate need of a really good clean and a new coat of paint. The room we had didnt have a single window. It was dark and dismal. The bathroom was worn down and it had a disgusting old bath. The tap on the sonk didnt have a knob and the mirror was filthy. There was also no extractor fan. The seperate toilet was just as awful and again no extractor fan! The jug provided was unusable (although a staff member replaced it straight away when we showed him the condition of it) Over all, not a very pleasant experience and i would recommend you look elsewhere for better accommodation. Certainly not worth the money we spent.
Hotel in very good location
The hotel is in very good location. Cross street to Sky City and intercity Bus terminal. Very convenient. But the room is old.
Nice enough
Overall nice Hotel, but needs to be renovated, rooms are somewhat lived-down, and the bathroom seems to be from the 60ties. But otherwise nice clean hotel, with comfortable beds. The Location is quite central with lots of food options near by.
Only really redeeming feature of The Albion was smile from guys at bar who provided key and good internet. The rest was horrible compared to the price paid. The first room: - TV did not work - Windows did not shut - Room & bathroom very poorly maintained - Really bad mouldy + food smell throughout. Second room: - Windows still not shutting properly and room backed on to construction site - Room had even more weird and untidy nooks and crannies - Shower was horrible - was raised and every move made you wonder if you were going to fall through with it creaking and groaning at every breath. Requires major overhall before I would ever go back and a cheaper price.
Excellent location. Great, friendly, helpful staff, Room small but clean and adequate. A little stuffy as window didn’t, open. Very good price for such a central location—right across the street from intercity bus. Nice pub. Again—GREAT STAFF,
Average
The bed was too soft and very uncomfortable. We could not open the window due to road noise, and without aircon the air in the small room was not very good.
Extremely clean, great location, very helpful and friendly staff . Room very small .
I wasn't at all impressed with this place. There was no AC, forcing me to open the windows when I had a first floor room just above the noisy street, so I had to close them to sleep. But in general, it was kind of run down, the room feeling dirty except for the sheets, thankfully. Also, there's no dedicated person to check you in, so you have to go into the bar to do it, or to check out, and there was sometimes no one there or it was locked
Very cool pub, accommodation a bit old but its cheaper to so you get what you pay for, nice bar, food looked good although we didnt eat there. Loved all the concert tour posters. Would stay again. Extra points for having lion red on tap.
The location and staff were amazing. It was hot and we had to keep the window open at night which is very loud with city traffic if your not used to it. The pub downstairs was a fun place to grab a pint and a meal. Bus service right down the street. No elevator be prepared to climb some stairs
Very friendly staff
Nice Old Pub in a handy location near the casino so close to everything
We we're on the 3rd floor and the morning after out check in we we're woke up at 7:50am to the sound of hammers and saws and men working construction about 6 meters from our window not only opened the drapes yo see men starting back at us but had a sinus headache for 2 days from the construction fist. The next morning construction started at 7:10sm. This was suppose to be a relaxing stay but was anything but that
Classic hotel
This is a older place with lots of character conveniently located.
Decent but old-fashioned .
No elevator. One one toilet in the men's bath. No AC. Otherwise modern and newly renovated, and staff quite helpful. Also free coffee and candy in the room. Bartender gave me free beer samples. Wifi was great.

Great location. Hotel reception is only open specific hours. We were able to store our luggage there. There is no elevator. Luckily there was someone who carried our luggage upstairs.
