Good place to stay if you are looking for an affordable place in Montreal. Nothing fancy, but decent.
Overall good
This is a student dorm with small rooms, trundle bed under single bed, shared bathroom down the hall. There is a refrigerator in your room. While there is a kitchen, there is no equipment like pans or mugs, so bring your own. You can get fresh towels at the check-in desk. It's between 2 metro stations so you have fast access to downtown. At least two buses stop inthe street below and there are lots of places to eat three or four stops away. Be prepared to climb steps to the building. Altogether, it was fine and great for the price.
Bad
The room is hot. No space at all in the room.
Nice and friendly people living on campus who were willing to help. No AC but luckily it was not hot during our stay. Communal bathroom and showers needs improvements.
Great part of Montreal. Fabulous quality for price.
Location was hard to get to had to walk up a long driveway to the top to reach reception/security so you can get your key and then go find the location in the campus were you are staying. Was about a 5-7 minute walk to a metro station which was good
I’m aware that the building is quite old but you can hear in the hallways people opening doors or using the locks on the doors are a bit squeaky. Other thank that I would be happy to return to stay here in the future
It is okay if you travel under budget
Can't go wrong for the price - but the location is very inconvenient. No Air Conditioning sucked during the heatwave, but at least they have a fan. Check in and check out went smoothly. If you don't mind long commutes on the Blue Line to where you need to go, it's a fair place for a fair price. You get what you pay for.
The place was not as advertised checked out after first night
It is what it is…
No air conditioning in rooms led to uncomfortable sleeping. It seemed to be a common occurrence many places in Montreal.
This hotel was so ridiculously hot. The beds didn’t have fitted sheets, only top sheets tucked into the corners. There was poor organization when it came to buying parking. The one staff member interacted with was kind, however, and offered a refund for the nights we didn’t stay when we decided to book a different hotel.
Good staff and location
This is definitely a college dorm experience, so if that's what you expect you'll be fine. The only thing is the rooms don't have air conditioning so it was like a sauna. But the people who helped me set up my stay were great and also the woman who checked me in was excellent. The other people staying there were friendly too. Mostly students but they were quiet and respectful.
Good staff and location
Very convenient
Good staff and location
Area a construction zone. Registration to room required going in and oout of 4 different buildings all ol with many steps orchanging floors. Room dingy and hot. Did not stay.
rooftop garden was an unexpected bonus
Good staff and location
The place was good and safe. There was no student when I went. I had to share bathroom but there is no student so it was clean all the time. They don’t have dishes or anything that could help. There are multiple stores close to the place so you could get everything needed. If the goal is to have a place to sleep then this is for you. You also have to be comfortable seeing students in the elevators.
Good staff and location
You get what you pay for.
It was hard to find the reception from the exterior of the building. There was a shared kitchen but no supplies. I recommend that they allow you to sign out a basic set up including pot, pan, dishes and utensils.
Great if you are fine with communal bathrooms , 5 minute walks from two major mode of transportation , the metro and the 55 bus , those two can basically bring you anywhere around montreal obviously with some connections, but great for travelling alone, and if you don't want to nor need to deal with staff, this is ur choice , I didn't interact with a single staff through out my stay
Good staff and location
The room is much smaller than I realized, the bathroom were not clean. No air conditioning, Kitchen was dirty. Was given a room, that we could not find, and staff were not very helpful. Not what I expected.
Enjoyed Quiet room /quiet residential are
I enjoyed it but with no air contioning i wouldent stay there in the middle of summer/had to climb steep stairs to get to reception so cant recommedn for seniors or perhaps they can find out about the parking which i didnt need but mostly for younger or fit person and the room is for 1 person so with a shortage of hotels in montreal i think they have a place on hotel.com andf i would certainly book again
We stayed in a very old building, lots of stairs. Showers are in poor condition & tight in space. Rooms were clean though, but not comfortable for 2 people, very small bedroom and bed, the pillow was very thin. I don’t recommend it.
Inexpensive, straightforward dorm experience
Easy check-in and departure procedures. No-fuss dorm residence experience. Wifi worked well throughout the stay. It would have been helpful to receive a campus map on check-in and some idea of the most straightforward path down the hill to restaurants.
Good staff and location
I read reviews on this place before registering my stay. The reviews are 5050. Check-in was fine. Finding the correct door was difficult - many stairs and buildings (I'm not sure who took the thumbnail picture and of what building). New experience in a college dorm or hostel such as this place. Not good or bad, more culture shock than anything i.e. sharing shower and bathroom with one side or whole floor. Highly unimpressed with electrical outlet(s). Specifically the one at the desk. the cork board was not cut or positioned correctly so the outlet was easily visible or accessible. The outlet by the door only worked if the light is on. Happy with the hotel-like mini bar of soap, face cloth and towel for shower. Also, for my week there it seemed like the residence replaced the soap, face cloth and towel about once a week, which I was also happy about. In addition to that, when those three were replaced staff/cleaners also changed out bedsheets and made the bed - thank you! One or two reviews said bathrooms were gross and unkept, I disagree. I would regularly hear and see cleaners in both male and female bathrooms in the morning. Further, they also mopped the hallway floors outside rooms. They may not have done so on weekends, but it was done. I almost slipped coming out of bathroom so I know they mop the floors (I could smell the cleaning formula and the lady was doing a good job mopping). They have a few different food options available on site. I would return.
Walkable area but be prepared for the mountain of stairs to get from the street to the hostel building. Room was dated. Bathroom and room were not very clean. Linens were itchy. Decent bang for your buck overall.
Great location. Room was nothing fancy but did the job
Good staff and location
Good option for a non expensive stay, I stayed in a date with high demand, hotels were full or vey expesive, the same for other propierties. The bathroom is shared between several rooms because it students dormitory in times when they have few students, I didn't expected that but it wasn't uncorfortable. I think it is a very good option to visit the city and not expending too much.
Will not return.
Knowing it was a hostel, I took a chance. But I checked out 5 hours later. It is small, has no AC and it is very dated. Lots of bugs and the bed was uneven with a noisy plastic sheet. No headboard, so the pillow (you get one) kept falling off the bed. Floor was dirty and the one shared bathroom smelled terrible.
Easy connections with downtown and mountain
Good staff and location.
good location
the elevator broke down during the entire stay, 9 days, going up and down more than 60 steps each time? work on the floors otherwise a good location for me, lively neighborhood and everything is close by metro. acceptable cleanliness, the price is advantageous.
It is what it is, a room, desk, mini-fridge. Not easy to find check-in (should include map with reservation), rooms are very small, one toilet for whole half of floor, washrooms never cleaned or rooms. Wireless was ok. Bed was reminiscent of the ones we had at camp as kids (and really should not be used for anyone over 10) and no fitted sheets. No A/C or TV. Hallways poorly lit and had a very Riker's Island Cell Block B vibe. If you are in town and want somewhere cheap for a day or two then this fits the bill, just manage any expectations in advance.
It’s a student dorm. You get what you pay for
As expected. Affordable! Got what I paid for.
Sinon je me suis bien amusé, merci!
The staff was helpful. Subway access and many food options within walking distance. This is a student dormitory; keep your expectations accordingly. Make sense if the price is reasonable compared to alternatives, but include $20/day parking into the comparison. I was late booking my room for the week there were tons of activities in the city, and I did not want to stay away from my point of interest. However, I will not probably consider it again in the future.
Everything was good but the bed was hard and the blankets where kinda thin, other then that it was great
Construction around the stairs to get to the dorm
Good
Average
It was satisfactory
It was a good stay
You get what you pay for, but there wasn't a mattress cover and there is only toilet per floor which requires a key to access. Also no A/C and not accessible because it was very hilly and the terrain is quite rocky.
It is a university accommodation. Shared bathroom and showers are dirty. Corridors are dirty. Communal microwaves are dirty.
It didn’t have enough common area for residents could entertaining themselves with guess. It was limited to us if there was any.
Back in Residence Again
Honest, clean and cheap. It was like being on residence again. Be prepared for some walking with stairs and two Metro stations five minutes away. You can short cut through building B up to floor 6 and across to the C buildings to skip the 100 stairs. For checking in, to save confusion, the C building is up the hill ( and stairs. ) Cote de Neiges Metro stop ( fifteen minute walk ) is a great place to shop with the original Renauld-Bray bookstore open until 10pm!
There were a lot of bugs in the room.
This place is very inexpensive for a reason; sketchy elevators, broken floor, burnt out lights, they show pictures of the main building on the website(you don’t stay in it but you do have some access) it does the job if you’re just looking for somewhere to sleep but I would probably go elsewhere in the future. Did I mention there are only 2 showers in the washrooms, one of which has no door…
It all depends on what you need. If you are looking for a bed, few towels and basic necessities, this place is perfect! It is not fancy but if you are on a budget and you need to spend few days in Montreal, it is ideal. Great campus, safe and peaceful. If you do not speak French, you can ask anyone for help and they will do an effort to assist you. A bit of walk/stairs is needed. Bus, subway and Bixi bikes near by. Plenty of restaurant, cafes, groceries store near by (15 mins ish walk), lovely neighborhood. It was perfect for my needs.
Good location. Quiet.
My recent stay at Zum Auberge was incredibly disappointing. The price I paid for the room was highly overrated, especially considering how small it was compared to the photos. Additionally, if you're planning to cook, be prepared for a major inconvenience as there is only one kitchen available for all guests. Overall, my experience at Zum Auberge was far from satisfactory.
had a great time
this property is not a hotel, its a college dorm with regimented, minimalist accommodations and shared bathrooms. Another guest called a nightmare and left early. I largely agree, and almost left early too, but I stayed for our entire 4 day weekend stay. I'm happy I did. The parking lot is a half a mile away. The area is a long distance walker's paradise. I had to drive everywhere. There are not stores, restaurants or cafes in the area. I love Montreal and you can't beat the $40 a night.
Affordable, comfortable, but dirty
The check-in process was automated and somewhat difficult to follow. I was thankful to have my friend (a UnideM student) there to guide me or else I would have been extremely lost. The room was adequate in size and featured a fridge, a sink, and a desk dedicated for working. The room did not have Wi-Fi nor an attached bathroom. There was a shared male and a shared female bathroom on each floor. The room was quite dirty. The floor looked as if it had not been mopped for several years and there was dust everywhere (see photo after dragging finger on work desk/cleaning it with a white cloth). The location of the hotel was perfect as I was visiting my friend who was attending UnideM. There are two metro stops within a 5-10min walk that you can use to take to Côte-des-Nieges (restaurants/shopping) or to anywhere else in the city. I probably would not stay here again unless I wanted to be close to UnideM.
Good overall, but no AC and a bit far from the stores and restaurants. The price is good comparing with regular hotels.
You get what you pay for. So, I guess there aren't many expectations. It boggles my mind that one bathroom has to be shared by a whole floor. Really could have more consistent cleaning
The room had a table fan which was helpful in the heat of the day
Good customer service. Well price and well deserve by public transportation.
Rooms and common areas need more cleaning. Everything else is completely okay
Comfortable environment
dirty terrible condition terrible physical plant. false advertising
Safe neighbourhood
Convenient location for us. Affordable Close to transit and a nice 10-15 minute walk to lots of coffee shops, bars, restaurant
I didnt like that there was no private bathroom, it was a public bathroom. On the other hand i liked that it was a quiet place during the day, i was working the night shift and it was nice that i could sleep in peace.
its location goog . no one clean my room.no breakfast even its price is high
Staff was not present. Building is rusty and unkempt. Room had no AC/TV.
The worst hotel I have ever stayed in my entire life
The only complaint I had was that the lights were not working properly.
dirty, not specific staff, small place, far from the city, dust everywhere
It’s ok to stay one night here. Parking is really expensive.
I like that the staff during check in was nice and friendly. However, the room was tight, not clean and will not recommend this place to my “enemy”. The pictures on the website is deceiving.
The property was terirble and the room was in a very bad condition. It was extremely hot and there was no AC
I am really frustrated by everything because I did not know that the room in the second building is not in the same building and that the room is very small can not accommodate two people and there is no private bathroom This is very noisy and I do not advise anyone to go to this hotel
Nice stay for low price Nice stay for low price Nice stay for low price
This place is dirty and we tried to overcharge me on the top of the expedia price. This is ridiculous
Its not a hotel ... Its university residential ... the price was not bad, but room was really dark, parking was too expensive 20$ for a night ... no food or coffee even to buy ... no any machine to buy a snak ... no air condition ... no internet on room ... you have to pay for cable one ... better to call it bed & chrgable breakfast (2 $ per any item ...) ... generally really really regular
One night "pit-stop" on my way home to Ottawa
Very happy with the basic room (except no air conditioning) for just an overnight stay going on after Montréal. The $20 extra for parking came as a surprise though.
Worst ever
This is the worst place ever. It smells, building is hot, no Air Condition. I would not let my dog spend 1 minute in that dirty, filthy place.
Great for attending meetings at the University of Montreal or Ecole Polytechnique (4 mins walk). Wireless not available. Internet access through cable in rooms.
Minimum confort
Good location but not very confortable for the price (very low quality pillow, small bed) And NO Wi-Fi Access in the room (only in the lobby) Friendly service
No frills hotel. You're staying in a dorm with small shared bathroom for the entire floor. That said, the staff is nice and there is WIFI in the lobby. Also the picture is wrong. It's the building close to the main street, B1 entrance.
expedia lies, this is not a hotel, it was montreal university residence. it was so much different from the picture, I hate my stay, I hate this liers. The room did not have anything. it was so small and worst than that, it smell so bad. Honestly, it was the worst stay of my life.
Stressful experience. Stayed there for a night and was booked into a tiny room ,, on the top floor of those high-riser in mid-august. The room felt like a oven...will not recommend to anyone.
Never seen anything this dirty. Will never go back to this facility .
Overall a good stay, we weren’t expecting much because it is a dorm. The rooms were quite hot, but there was s heat wave and they did provide is with a fan. Staff was super friend and let us check in early! Definitely would come back for a price like that!
Good location.nice service
Nice customer service at front desk. Located in the camp range of university of Montréal, easily access to the public transportait.
Meh...
It's an empty dorm room that the university rents out to travelers, so it's a bed and desk and not much else. There is no wifi or TV in the rooms. That's fine. All I really needed was a bed, and it was clean. The bad part was the very confusing layout of the buildings and lack of signage. When you enter on level 5, you have to go to level 7 before there are elevators that go to the higher floor. This was not mentioned at the office, which is itself hard to find due to lack of signage. Also worth knowing in advance: the walls are just concrete block and transmit sound well. It can get noisy. It's about 30 minutes by metro or bus to the city centre. For the price, there are better choices, closer to where most people probably want to be... at least if it's not Grand Prix weekend. This hotel was a last resort for me, and that seems appropriate having now stayed there.
Bleak
The room was very sparse. One plastic cup, dirty sink. Bathroom also needed attending for several days. No sheet on mattress, bed smelled of B.O.
The location is perfect for visiting the university. Shared bashroom - fine. The comforter is thin, sometime not warm.
Hard to access to rooms, to floors, to buildings.
old elevators, broken stairs, dirty showers. No coffee to be found, unless you walk to reception building.

So bad
