It was nice
The room was lovely and spacious and very affordable. The bathroom was also very spacious.
Friendly staff
Wish I had read reviews before I booked. The place is so run down and needs a serious renovation. We arrived to being told we had to pay an extra $20 a day for parking, then got told to park over at the wilson carpark because our ute wont fit in their carpark. So we would have to have paid so much more to park, but we squeezed in anyway to avoid paying anymore. Entering the back of the building was filthy, and it stank, the floors havnt seen a mop in years. Once in the room i wanted to leave. The carpet was thread bare and looked incredibly dusty, the curtains were stained and had holes in them and bad patch up jobs on the walls. The water does not go hot! We had to have cold showers. Absolutely usless. The only good thing was the bed was comfortable, but the sheets had brown stains on them! Will not be back and gutted i wasted money here.
Reception was really friendly and helpful.
Nice and central, clean rooms, good service. Great for an overnight stay
This hotel though a little tired is in a convenient location to everything in Hamilton. It would have been a beautiful in days gone by. Though remember it is extremely well priced for this location
Very clean tidy accommidation
Overall value for money and location right in the heart of the main street. We had a a room at that was not road frontage so was quiet. Friends a had a room facing the main street and was noisy being a Saturday night. Would stay again
happy they charged for a second key Stayed all over nNZ and world never been charged for a second key to room
Not a great property with hardly any facility, no clear signage to find hotel, casual attitude by Reception staff, nothing in the hotel other than just rooms. Road to the parking has multiple holes and entrance to the hotel from back had really bad smell, things lying everywhere and resembled like third world country. when told about this to the receptionist, she made a casual comment that we all are aware of this, without even bothering if this will ever be fixed. The lift in the hotel makes funny noises when you use it and you pray to God that it is does not stop midway. The hotel is dead place after 9 pm with reception gone and you feel so scared to enter the building. It is on a busy city road with noises coming all night. The rooms and bathroom were in good condition, bed was nice and there was good space, that makes stay comfortable.
Beautiful old building, like in the movies, huge room. Walking distance to lots. Great place and definitely going back ☺️
Staff were friendly and helpful, Room was tidy but carpet and curtains and bathroom very out dated and the carpet worn in some places in the room. Location handy but at night time too close to party district as could here the pubs and clubs music till at least 3am
City is nice.
The room was extremely spacious and clean, some steps to get to the room but not too hard. Friendly helpful staff.
Pretty basic and dated. Staff very welcoming and quick check-in was great though. Served it's purpose, but only enough hot water for one shower, so be the person that gets in the shower first!! Basic no frills accommodation in the CBD.
Older style room, linen clean but bathroom needs thorough clean as mold in corner of shower.
The property was clean enough, but looked like it needs a refresh. There is limited on site parking which was difficult to get in and out of. But the strangest thing was they lock the doors to the parking at 10 pm and do not open them until 7 am.
Big Room Old building
The rooms were very spacious as was the bathroom. Parking was restricted by which you had to have your vehicle in by a specific time and could not leave before a specific time. Not really convenient for the late arrivals and early starters. The lift was very musty smelling and needs serious attention. For that rate we paid kinda of expected more.
Big room very spacious comfortable beds but that’s it. Spa didn’t work, toilet didn’t flush properly, shampoo face wash hand wash all are same liquid. Tv didn’t work properly, couldn’t sleep at all due to the noice from night clubs surrounding . The room smells like an old trunk which has not opened for many years. I am so sorry to say all these but we will never book this again
Cheap and spacious
Lots of space. Good price. One of the bed mattresses was really bad, fully indented in the middle and really needed replacing, however the main bed was comfy enough, and the pillows were nice. Carpet was worn through but didn’t bother us at all. Great location close to the casino.
Lovely spacious room, clean. Very handy to restaurants. Friendly staff. The room was facing Victoria Street so a bit noisy at night.
Customer service was excellent!
Great location, huge rooms, restaurant on site. Staff could work on their communication skills, and the website info bot needs to be more accurate with the info it provides, just saying there is parking available on a first come first served basis but neglecting to mention the $20 a night charge is very misleading! The main and BIG complaint is noise, both from the street and also from neighbouring rooms, there is NO soundproofing! You get to hear the TV from the room next door all night and the yahooing from the street outside, don't plan on sleeping!
Tiered, dated but clean and central.
large clean room friendly staff
Shocking
Shower didn’t work. Just cold water
Rubbish bin room
Omg had a room outside of a truck loading bin so 2am, 4am and 7am the truck reversed and dumped rubbish into a bin metal bin. The beds were two singles pushed together and were hard the floor was probably softer
The front staff member was very sexist and didn’t understand how a bond worked. He stated that my wife needed her husband as woman can’t park in their car park. He said the $150 bond would only have $130 returned in check out. Terrible!
4 nights at the VR Hotel Hamilton
My bed was made with a pillow inside, my toilet roll holder fell off twice, my toilet chain inside the tank came loose once, I had to duck to shower under the low shower rose, the list goes on, it’s a spacious hotel in a great location but it needs a boost.
Nothing good to say
The building is old but generally clean there is no desk in the room to be able to do any computer work at . in the middle of the night some weirdo was in the reception area, and weird activity up and down in the lift through the night not great
Didn’t even bother checking in. Man on awning yelling out, high as a kite or drunk
Good location but poor parking opportunities. Lots of dining options in the local area. Bed was quite soft. Reasonable accommodation for what you pay.
So many choices of eateries near by. Shame they don't have their own restaurant
Great stay
The Beds offered a good nights rest (clean and comfortable). The Hotel is a bit run down - Has seen better days. Has dedicated parking - $20 for our 1 night stay. Booked Expedia for 3 people - only one queen bed in room!, paid extra for another room with and extra single bed which was a bit disappointing.
Idea for location. Would stay again
Overall good
The size of the room was very spacious and great for a family of 4. The location is very central and close to all amenities. Great nostalgia and character. Spa bath and shower worked well. Could have done with a little more cutlery but overall good value for money.
Outstanding value for money
Great location. Very large spacious room. Clean and comfortable room, comfy beds, and air on. I would book again.
Good experience
Was ok
We have stayed here many times it is very central close to all restaurants, bars and shopping, there is parking for $20 for the stay which is very convenient because there is a parking meter charge on Saturdays in city. Don’t expect 4 star but it suits our needs and the staff are very helpful. Gail.
Place needs a complete update very old and tired.
Great grand rooms
I was booked in for 7 nights and stayed for 2. The accommodation is run down, the rooms are dingy and had an unpleasant odour. The walls were like paper and you could hear the people in the room next to you. Consider booking elsewhere.
2 people staying. Told could only have 1 room key. Guy behind the desk was intially unhelpful. Changed his tune when i said won't be staying there again
Worst hotel we’ve ever been to. I understand it is an old building but filthy and stinky? It was cheap for reason, I guess.
The staffs are very kind and accommodating in all aspects specially Michelle.. i just wanted to thank her. The property was clean, the room has freshly smells, towels and bathrooms choices of Foods were in areas surrounding. Its 5 🌟 experience..highly commendable.
Very clean
Large spacious rooms, friendly staff
Listed in very small font $250 bond. Not recommended because they shoved it in the listing in between irrelevant material too hide it. Parking is $20??…. For what, if u have a stationwagon your going to get the underneath absolutely shredded no warning beforehand Eather, they just take your money and do not refund you. Room is absolutely average, sleeped on a massive lean all night as the floor is beyond level. Bath/shower doesnt run anything beyond luke warm. Heatpump was terrible, as a heatpump installer that unit needs to go. Beds feel like cardboard, i can carry on all day. Me and my group could not wait to get out of there 5 minutes after arriving into the room. If there was an option for 0/5 stars i would click on it. Make it $20 a night and than you got a worthy place to stay. Worst place ive stayed at yet…….
Nice big, clean room
What a beautiful old hotel! We did have to wait 75 minutes for our room to be ready but we were then upgraded to the mosr spacious room I've ever stayed in. The room was very clean, no issues. There were lots of lovely restaurants near by and we were spoilt for choice. It was a bit noisy overnight with the usual Saturday night sounds of a big city but this is to be expected. Love watching the sunset from the window and all the city lights come on. The parking was good. You are directed down a side street to a very old building. It was a tight fit and luckily we had a small car. Your car is locked in overnight. The lift is very old and can only take a few people at a time which is understandable for its age. Great stay, great location! We will be back.
Spacious rooms, great location. Hotel a bit run down
Definitely historic.
Very old fashioned, but that's OK. But shower over bath gets harder and harder as we age.
Central location and excellent customer services.
The bed was a lot softer than we're used to, or like.
Perfect for an overnighter
Very noisy from the street below. Had to park off site. No extra blankets or pillows.
At least it's cheap!
Our room was incredibly noisy with a bar or something below that sounded like it was in the room. The hot water barely worked – we were told to run the tap in the basin to get the hot in the shower running, but even then it barely lasted long and went stone cold. The rooms itself was ok otherwise, bed was comfortable. The staff were at least helpful and friendly.
Walking distance to everywhere
The drain peice in the shower was completely broken and grimy and floated out. The showerhead leaked. Even though there were instructions that the parking, which we paid an extra $20 for, would close at 10pm, which meant we had to park out on the street, I feel there should have been card access available. I wouldn't recommend staying there if you have a vehicle.
For what it advertised as, it was the opposite. Over priced in my opinion.
Was a good stay. Old building, but clean and big rooms!
Male reception staff helpful and went extra mile
Access to the city
Sooo damn dirty, seriously never been to a place like this. Whole hotel smells so bad.
First night quiet and comfortable , second night , people in room next door in 206 very noisy until early hours of the morning , apart from that it was good place to rest 😁😁😁.
No parking
Staff member was super nice and helpful especially with their carpark times as we were there for a family function so getting up early and getting back late
We enjoyed our stay. The pace was nice and clean but bathrooms need to be replaced. Would stay again.
Walkable to services. Well-priced
Great accommodation right in the centre of town, perfect for an overnight or two.
Old building which staff work hard to keep things clean BUT shower grubby.water either way way to hot or cold.very dangerous. A burning accident waiting to happen.linen very clean.Bed possibly 100 years old.A saggy old thing for sure.Wont be back and thats for sure even tho it was excellent area..Sorry.Carpet threadbare in places..
Lovely huge rooms but very outdated and everything that is redone is for tall people if I was staying longer I would want a step ladder Ok for one night but expensive
Stayed a few times and will be back. great price for location. Some nights get noisey more than others, but on theain street. Close to food and shopping
Well situated for my needs. Staff were efficient and helpful. Great room with all that I required. Centrally located for food.
This is an old hotel but quite unusual and unique we have stayed there many times. The position is in the centre of city with restaurants, cafes and bars at your fingertips and the staff are great very friendly, helpful and obliging. Enjoy Gail D
I love how beautiful the building look. It was very quite.
OLD
Great value. Lovely staff. Cool old building. Walkable to lots of bar’s & restaurants.
Have stayed here several times, while the place is old the character of the building and rooms, are still the reason I return. The staff that have been there awhile are always pleasant and familiar on arrival and departure.
It’s a great old place, loads of room and charm. We stayed Saturday night and the whole neighbourhood was rocking, great if you want to be in the centre of the action, if not you should ask for a room round the back, it may be quieter
Old buildings being restored. Noise from the street but was ok
.
The hotel is old and rundown, will not be staying there again
Great location But it needs a revamp plus the toilet take a bit off getting used to as the water is half way a the bowl
Good for families
Street noise ,people off their face, until 3.30 am. Weird noise for 30 mins on floor or above about 2?am.
Difficult to find.no parking.terribly noisy Advice no one to stay there
The hotel was sufficient for our purposes that is location, the price and our late booking The staff were pleasant and our check in and out were smooth the hotel is a little bit tired but for the price we paid you can’t expect a 5 star hotel We were able to pay for parking out the back which was another bonus
Good location and lovely bones but showing lots of signs that it's not being well maintained. Poor parking facilities, plumbing not working well, lift weight limit reduced and it bangs and shudders during operation, broken mirrors, worn carpets etc. It's still nice but it needs work.
On a busy street and a old style hotel
Great location
Location was close to everything we needed.. Staff tried there best to keep everyone happy. Description of property slightly misleading said that it had a laundry no laundry to be found on the premises att all
Room size was good. Shower pressure weak. TV needing size increase.

Nice little get away in Hamilton
The best thing about this hotel is its location...right in the thick of it within Hamilton's CBD. It's so close to the restaurants, casino, museum and river. Had a great lunch down by the river at Madam Woos. Yes, the hotel is a past its prime but the rooms are spacious and ours was clean. The price also was great compared to other hotels in the vicinity. There is no parking at the hotel when we were there, so we parked on the street, a Wilson's carpark facility is nearby for those who would prefer a more secure parking option.
