Lovely clean property with helpful staff. Beautiful area
We had to leave our original hotel /resort of Albufeira as it was completely unsuitable -so booked this one at last minute -it stood out as being completely accessible, staff are really welcoming and helpful -it is a few hundred yards from the most beautiful beach complete with beach restaurant, beds and good restaurants nearby. The Breakfast Room is excellent with great buffet selection - all round -highly recommended!
Needs updating but great location.
Old outdated room with shabby curtains, no coffee/ tea making facilities in room and no iron available anywhere. Excellent breakfast. Nice communal areas and great location for beach and Marina.
No towels when I arrived to take a shower Air conditioning did not work Temperature never went below 27 Celsius 82 degrees Fahrenheit My next surprise when I pulled the cover on my bed disgusting stains on the sheets that looked like FECES !!!! It was my first time in Algarve I spent half my 2 days vacation going down to the reception desk and speaking to the manager that refused to even offer me a partial refund other than a disgusting buffet dinner for ruining my once in a lifetime time vacation for me Don’t be fooled this is not a 4 star hotel They only charge like it!!!!
Great location, close to Marina. Good pool, kids park, sport and bar facilities across the hotel and very clean. All team are very helpful and friendly. Great selection and quality of breakfast.
Staff helpful, hotel clean and pool not too busy. We always managed to get a sun lounger. Good choice at breakfast. I was brought a tray of gluten free items including cereal, croissant and bread rolls. Good location for the beach and marina.
I liked the location and activities, but my wife got sick probably from a late half-board dinner. On the positive side, the assistant, Manager offered to get us what she needed, which wasn't anything by the time of the offer.
Sea view room barely could see the ocean. No parking available
Vilamoura
Perfect location , helpful staff and decent pool
Great 4 star hotel
Great service. Staff were extremely helpful.
Hairdryer didn’t work, safe didn’t work (and you have to pay to use it). Breakfast is very basic - you even have to help yourself to coffee. Air conditioning doesn’t seem to be functional in many parts of the hotel. No tea/coffee in the room, we had to request a kettle. No iron/board in the room. Had to pay $7.50 to iron 2 items for us. No bottles of water in the room. When we checked in, the guy said we should park in the public parking lot across the road then move it to McDonald’s at 9am. I was confused but I went it, even though I read they had €7.50 per night parking. Of course I forgot to move it and got a very small ticket, but when I went back to reception to complain/inquire, they said they had about 20 free parking spaces!! And €7.50 per night elsewhere if there wasn’t any space in the free parking. So strange. Can’t believe this is supposed to be a 4-star hotel. The amenities in the rooms are the worst I’ve seen at any hotel. It’s like they’re cutting costs. Service has been good when we’ve requested what has been missing, but it’s really frustrating to keep requesting things, and it spoils a trip. We did not expect to have to pay additional for water, iron, or safe ( even if they were small amounts).
Great central location even although on the beach.
Clean and well run property. Handy local bus stop right at the hotel entrance Lacked concierge to help us with understsnding bus schedules. Above average breakfast offering
Comfy friendly stay.
Hotel was comfortable. Staff friendly. Small balcony with sliding doors which rattled in the wind , could upgrade these. Breakfast good with plenty of choice. Didn’t get to try restaurant.
Clean Hotel
Relaxing, pool area was clean & comfortable
We were able to use the hotel's limited free. parking, much appreciated. Enjoyed the lavish breakfast buffet and once dined at the dinner buffet. Very good restaurants nearby. Pools were nice but found the music coming from a resort nearby annoying. The beach also nice with chairs to rent
Fabulous view. VERY close to the beach, food, shop. Clean hotels. Friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely stay there again.
First, and last, time at this hotel. Pretty basic for a 4* Hotel - I can’t remember the last time I had to pay to use a room safe at €2.50 per day. Putting that aside I found the excessively loud music from the neighbouring beach club, about 200 yards away, unacceptable for what was supposed to be a relaxing break.
3 star not 4
Location is great. Hotel more 3 star than 4. Pool freezing (not heated). Had a great room - junior suite. Meant to be ocean view, was more car park! Check-in and out terrible. Lot of groups of blokes, all ok but less for younger kids. Food dire.
Excellent all round
The noise from the facility across the road is horrendous. 12-6pm non stop loud loud loud music. Towels over balconies, always a bad sign. Towels over all sunbeds by 9am always a bad sign. Staff excellent. Room very nice. Could not possibly go back.
Friendly and polite staff all round.
Pricey and very badly equipped kitchenette, substandard
We have been here many times and this hotel continues to serve the BEST. The position close to beach, walks and top class restaurants is superb.
Proximity to the marina and beautiful beach in front.
Our room had a wonderful view of the beach. I loved seeing the ocean and hearing the waves hit the beach. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast had a wonderful variety of options. Great omelettes! I loved using the indoor pool with water jets and hot tub. I enjoyed the promenade along the beach to walk to the neighbouring town of Quarteria or over to the marina which had many wonderful restaurant options. I would highly recommend this hotel.
Very good room and staff were excellent and very customer focused.
Dreadful room amenities. No iron or kettle in room. Requested three times for a kettle. When i checked in the male was very quick to tell me about three restaurants and time for breakfast as he was to interested in checking in the male group of golfers staying. No one offered to help with bags at checkin or checkout.
Great amenities and very clean!!
Kids friendly, beach front rooms with great views all over. Close to marina and all fun activities
It's very nice stay, marina is walkable where we have lots of options for food and drinks at reasonable prices.dont need to travel long at all. Dinnee and lunch options could be better, otherwise it's an excellent stay.wifi excellent thru out.
Nice half term break
Good 4 Star Hotel. Close to beach and Marina. Rooms spacious and relatively fresh. Pleasant and attentive staff.
Good hotel in vilamoura
Good clean hotel in great position. Our room was a little basic the spa facilities and pool were good and it was close to the beach and marina
Great location 2 mins from Vilamoura beach. We had a street view room on a high floor and the view was amazing; to the right we could see the marina and to the left the beach and the sea. Be warned - we were charged 7.50€ for taking 2 very small bottles of water from the fridge in our room. The receptionist called it a ‘minibar’ but there were only 4 small bottles of water in it, no alcohol or snacks as usually found in an hotel minibar and no price list. We didn’t mind paying for what we had - but 7.50€???
The positives: The location was perfect. A couple of minutes walk to the marina where there are an abundance of lovely bars & restaurants. The beach was less than a minutes walk away. It was lovely and clean and the sunbeds on the beach where 18 euros for two until 2pm. There was a beach bar close by and a fancy beach club. The transfer from the airport to the hotel was very efficient. We used Sunline Transfers. The hotel restaurant was really lovely with a good choice for breakfast. We only had evening meal on the first night because there are so many amazing restaurants close by. I would recommend the Chinese Zu Yi, Rare steakhouse, Don Toro steakhouse and San Rafael (opposite the hotel). To be honest every place we ate at was really good. The negatives: The queues at passport control were very busy due to PCR results also being checked but it still seemed to take much longer than it really needed to. was shocked to find that we didn’t have a balcony in our room. I’ve never seen that abroad before. There were no instructions on how to use the jacuzzi or the water jets in the indoor pool area. The jacuzzi didn’t actually work despite the help of the member of staff. There was no signage to show you how to find the sauna and Turkish bath. We literally found them by chance looking around by the gym area. You need to have swim caps for the pool.
The staff at Vila Gale were incredible and my stay was very enjoyable. I booked a Junior Suite Ocean View, but upon arrival the room I was provided did not have a table / desk suitable as a work space. The staff and management found me another room immediately (which was in fact an upgrade). I will be back again next trip to the Algarve!
Excellent location, very close to the beach and to the marina and many restaurants. Large varanda. Comfortable bed. Nice 20 minute walk to Quarteira on the promenade. Because of the Covid pandemic, the use of masks is a must inside the hotel, taxis, shops and supermarkets. With all the changes, the breakfast was better than what we expected, giving the circumstances.
We have been staying at the Vila Gale for a week in September for many years. Despite covid we still had a fabulous time. The hotel has done all they can to battle through this time, masks worn everywhere when not eating & drinking. Room was spotless every day. Bit of queuing at breakfast but got better as the week progressed.
Staff were great - nice pool and just across the road to the beach Facilities were ok but not over the top - but COVID restrictions weren’t helping Beach bar is only a little snack bar - so a bit disappointing tbh
Not informed of construction work outside. Room very dated, beds that old they creaked. Mini bar 2 bottles of water. Safety Issue shower over bath no hand rail. Found a leaflet hidden that a kettle could be provided. Seems to be the overall issue with Vilamoura tired tired hotels charging top rates with the attitude anything wil do.
Great facilities, lovely indoor pool, games room, breakfast buffet superb, outside pools were cold (unheated) and major construction working taking place outside which we weren't aware of.
Great hotel for short October break
Sea view superior room. Very spacious. Comfortable beds. Busy hotel. A Mecca for golfers so lots of large groups of mainly men. Two swimming pools. Sometimes quite busy around the pool with large groups of beer drinkers! Breakfast ok, busy, but plenty of tables. Short walk to marina. Right opposite the beach.
The hotel has a fantastic location, rooms were very spacious even having a kitchen with cooker and large fridge and cleaned daily, great pool area and terrace. We were disappointed that the rooms did not have an iron and ironing board. No staff member asked if we were having an enjoyable time.
Amazing hotel! My boyfriend and I really enjoyed it. Sea view was so gorgeous. Close walk to the marina with loads of shops and restaurants and the hotel breakfast was also very nice. We will definitely stay here again.
A family break
What a wonderful hotel. We enjoyed the friendly staff and fantastic facilities. We will certainly be back! Thank you
Pool was too cold! Staff very helpful. Room very clean.
Great location, clean, friendly staff, breakfast is good with good choice, can’t comment on dinner as we didn’t dine there, pools are great with plenty of beds and during our stay didn’t have the usual English putting towels on them , much better hotel than Vila gale marina, stayed there earlier in the year. My only gripe is reception is a bit small and slow. Will be back next year again, super hotel
fabulous, totally enjoyable great breakfast and very helpful staff also great locatation
Great hotel, perfect location
Returning guests who love the hotels location and its facilities. We stayed in a sea view refurbished room and it was fantastic.
OVERALL our stay was really nice and we’d definitely return. Unfortunately check in was slow and we didn’t get into our room until 3pm and we had a lot of waiting around. Once in our room there was an additional bed so we immediately informed reception to take it away as space was limited. We requested again.. however gave up and put up with it during our entire stay. Other than this the hotel was located right on the beach and close to amenities. Our room was good and staff were lovely so no other complaints!
Excellent hotel, fantastic location, breakfast was good
Location and cleanliness of property. Pool area and closeness to beach
4th visit to this hotel for us - we love it’s position, room size, new bathroom/walk-in shower, comfort, etc. Love the new pool and revamp of the outside areas, no bed bagging round the pool, though we still prefer the beach. Will be better when the new walk way on the beachfront is finished- bit noisy at times.
This is our 2nd year at this hotel, ans since last year the rooms have been updated and the breakfast is delicious. The availability of sun loungers is great
Great location, it was close to the Marina and beach. Breakfast was not the best compared to other hotels in the area.
Old outdated and overpriced. Not worth the money. Find a smaller town in the Algarves and don’t bother being in a ritzy area that only is a tourist trap.
Awful smell coming from the pipes ( shower tray ).
Room was lovely and spacious. Plenty of space by the two pools
Our room was never cleaned only the beds made. Wet towels from floor picked up and hung again. Bathroom light in master bath not working and never fixed.
On the beach......close to the Marina and restaurants.....clean. Friendly staff.....good price
Great location in Vilamoura
The hotel has been refurbished since our last stay in 2017. Rooms are stylish and our junior suite had a small kitchen and dining table although no microwave, which may have been handy if travelling with babies or small children. A kettle is available, just ask. There is now a second swimming pool as well as a new separate kids pool with several slides and although we were there in peak season, there always seemed to e plenty of sunbeds. Towels are available from the spa. A coffee shop and an Italian restaurant has also been added. Both of these were worth a visit. Nice pastries, cakes, savoury treats and a selection of coffee, ideal for snacks or an alternative breakfast. We had a lovely meal at the Italian and it was very reasonably priced, compared to those in the marina. The hotel is very clean and we found all the staff very friendly and helpful. Its proximity to the beach is a bonus too. We didnt use the hotel restaurant for dinner so can't comment on that. Breakfast was plentiful and pleasant. The bar area didn't appear to be used that much and we didn't feel drawn to use it due to a lack of atmosphere. Overall, a lovely hotel in a great location just a 5 min walk to marina. We would definitely consider it again, if the price was right, for future visits.
The hotel is great for families with small kids, there are great amenities to keep the kids entertained and give the parents a well deserved break. However, our bathroom had a foul sewer smell emanating from either the bathroom vent or (more likely) the shower drain. I called the front desk about it, never heard back. The following day I asked to move to a different room and I was given a similar room on a different floor and different line, but it had the same problem. I kept complaining but they never addressed it. Fortunately, I spent little time in the room and I kept the bathroom door closed at all times. However, one night I forgot to close it and woke up at 5 AM with the smell. The smell was so potent that I couldn't sleep again that night.
Prime location. Sun beds no problem. Breakfast arrangements poor.
Great hotel, perfect location, lovely breakfast with great variety of food. The only negative thing is lack of storage space - 1 wardrobe and 3 small drawers.
Great stay
Fantastic stay, hotel very close to Marina with lots of restaurants.
The hotel is a bit dated
Family break in Vilamoura
The hotel was a bit colourless and could do with a brighter decor. A kettle in the room would also have been nice. The amenities were good and the breakfast was also varied. The price was reasonable for the location of the hotel and we would come back to this hotel again.
A lovely, clean and spacious hotel, based right on the beach with a 2 minute walk to the Marina.
Location is excellent Loved the pool area Great breakfast
Everything was wonderful . Food amazing and the rooms were spacious
Staff: the staff are so rude it was unbelievable, asked the staff on a few different occasions, and it was a 1 word answer or a disgusting look and being ignored or at breakfast being barraged by the staff and not even apologising. I believe that people that are on reception when you walk into a hotel should be the happiest brightest people Because they are the first people to see going into a hotel but they were rude arrogant Rooms: the rooms wasn’t overall that bad, need a little bit of TLC but there’s okay not worth £150 a day Food: Breakfast buffet: the food was average, have no real sausages just mini hot dog sausages ( frankfurters), A rush for you to finish your food before a waiter/waitress is taking you plate away!, not the best selection of food! Lunch: brought 2 sandwiches 1 bowl of chips and Pepsi max and a beer come to around €30.00, there drink a ridiculous for a can of Pepsi max €3.30, the prices are horrendous! The cafe: 3-4 girls working at the cafe at the ampalius, I’ve never met 3-4 girls so bloody rude in all my life, they took away the shop and the hairdressers and chemist to replace it with a cafe with rude arrogant Staff Swimming pool: I was in my room in the morning watching people who live around the area, getting off a bus and walking in to the hotel and sitting around the pool, I’m sorry but that is wrong, we pay all this money to have people of the streets coming in and laying over the loungers and in the pool for nothing!
Clean hotel. Good pool area with bar & snacks. Good breakfast
The Harbour
Hotel was very good,Location very good, Food and drink around the harbour eateries was a little on the dear side, one had to be selective and for far less, the food and service were first class.
the only faults in our opinion were there were no drink facilitys in the room (kettle tea and coffee) there was bottled water at a charge . Also there was no porridge at breakfast Apart from that was pleased with the hotel and location
Close to marina Tea maker in room would have been nice
Was dated especially as we paid for luxury suite. Hotel was nice staff helpful
Lovely renovated bedroom. New pool area gorgeous Staff helpful
Vila Gale Ampalius
Hotel is in perfect location. Near the Marina .The indoor and outdoor pool is OK.Service is O.K. Near the beach is construction site . Our room was in first floor ,but with windows that you can not Open. So no fresh air in your room(only AC all day). We were given the response that this is because of the "security reasons" ??? Safe was in the room with extra charge ? Breakfast was O.K.
Good but a few easy tweaks could make it great
Perfect location - rooms a bit dated but clean - seems very dated to be charged to use a hotel safe these days and the pool table charge was extortionate - we played 3 games and were charged €12?!?!?! Breakfast lovely but incredibly crowded on the Saturday - shame no outdoor option when so busy - hotel generally great though - we would stay again... oh also odd to not have tea and coffee facilities in rooms - but ok to be expected to carry a full set including crockery and kettle from main bar to room?!?!
No complaints whatsoever about the hotel itself, the cleanliness of the hotel, or the local area. Came for a relaxing sunbathing holiday, but did not like the pool area - too windy, too noisy, too many golf parties and too many hen parties. WiFi good in main communal areas of the hotel, but very poor in room. Excellent service and coffee in coffee shop!
We have just returned from a great holiday st this hotel. We’ve booked for 2020 already. Great location, clean and good value for money!
Good location and clean room. No facility to make a drink in the room unless you request a kettle from reception , air conditioning not very effective. All in all perfectly adequate and comfortable but no wow factor. Indoor pool and jacuzzi were lovely.
Near the sea, friendly environment, need improvement about the aminities.
Clean and comfortable Hotel. Nice breakfast. Staff on reception very helpful. When we had any issues they were dealt with immediately.
We got room upgrade an service was excellent The breakfast was very tasty and lots of pools an activities were laid on
Good location everything you need is there and the staff were all helpful
Unique location, excellent condition. It helped very enjoyable holiday. Kids also enjoy safely.
short break on the algarve
good weather ,hotel and food what more could you want
Clean, entertainment and near the beach and centre of marina
It was a very laid back Hotel, they were there if you needed them and very friendly and welcoming. The entertainment was poor and the music from an adjacent Lido was very loud all day every day
Excellent location. Friendly staff. Very clean. Sometimes not enough staff serving at bars and cafe.
Location is absolutely fantastic. Yards away from the beech and a 2 minute walk to the marina. There is a bit of work being undertaken at the front of the hotel with diggers etc but this did not impact on our stay. Breakfast was great and overall extremely pleased with our stay and would definitely return to the same hotel.
Lovely staff made good atmosphere. Reception too slow for check in and out. Need more staff. Missing extras in room - no kettle, iron, bath robe, no conditioner or body lotion. But nice room and great location.
Love this place
Brilliant location lovely hotel. Modern and spotless. Great amenities and facilities but very bad wi-fi signal in room. We arrived on an early flight so got to the hotel at around 10am and our room was ready which was very welcome. Our sea view room was lovely. Really spacious and a nice surprise to have a tiny kitchen which had everything we needed. The staff couldn’t have been nicer. Large selection for breakfast, something for everyone. Nice addition of a coffee shop in the hotel. Great children’s pool and play area round the back of the hotel which is sheltered from the wind. Can’t fault this hotel. Would definitely return
Bar man Pinto was fantastic. The hotel staff all tried to make you feel welcome.
Stayed here over the Easter weekend for 4 nights with wife and 2 kids. We really enjoyed our stay. Hotel is just overlooking the beach and less than 5mins walk to shops. They sea view from our hotel room was lovely (Stayed on the 8th floor). Hotel staff were helpful throughout and tried their best to provide all the things we requested during our stay. The only negative was the gym equipment which needed updating. Overall, we had a great time and we look forward to staying in this hotel again.
Family holiday
Fantastic location yards from the beach Restaurants and bars in walking distance Room comfortable and clean Plenty of choice for breakfast Great holiday had by all
fantastic 4 star, 4 nights stay....................
This was our second visit to this hotel, it is perfect for a relaxing holiday, the staff are very friendly, efficient, can’t do enough for you, rate it high on cleanliness and just in the perfect beach front position with a 2 minute walk to restaurants, bars and shops. Can’t wait to visit again highly recommended.
Vila Gale Ampalius | Hotel in Loulé | Travala.com
Good chain hotel comfortable rooms and good breakfast. Full of golfers - think Clarkson meets Paul Merson but they were all well behaved. A few minutes walk to marina of Vilamoura and a selection of steak houses, Chinese and massage parlours. Ideal for lads golfing tip I would.
