good hotel

All was ok, but 1-pick up from airport wasn’t done by hotel and 2- one day staff forgot put bottle of water in the room and guy from reception promised to bring it and forgot

Stay away, go to any other resort in Puerto Plata except this one. They will scam you out of your money. Rooms were very out dated. Not even the WiFi worked.

The rooms are dated. It is a plus that room service was provided every day. Cleaning staff were very nice. Upon check-in there were no overall instruction as to how meals, restaurants, pool times, getting potable water in the rooms, minibar, locations of anything or really how the property worked so that the guest could maximize their stay. There was way too much focus on the towel cards and an emphasis on needing to return them or be charged $30 per card, the check-out process was equally confusing and lacked any real direction. The dining room staff clearly favored the customers who offered tips for better service. My dominican guests were treated poorly and different when me and my american guests were not present. Pools were clean however limiting the pool hours to 7PM is inconvienient. Not allowing guests to swim in the ocean after 1800 created problems. The food was horrible, everything seemed of the lowest quality and little flavor or care went into its preperation, they even somehow managed to cook rice poorly. Pasta, Pizza, and omelet stations are nice but when the ingredients are poor or the cooking technique lacking it doesnt matter. There was very little variety day to day, The hamburgers and hot dogs as snacks were probely the worst I ever had anywhere. I dont know what they put in the patties but it doesnt taste like beef. I would not stay at this property again.

The rooms need a better TV and it's small

The only shining light there is Rumy Martinez. He was very empathetic to my dire situation with my son's health. I went to the desk several times to get very time sensitive documents need for my 7am appointment at the embassy that took 4 hours to get to so I could get home and take my son to the emergency room. There was one receptionist that was dismissive and nasty from hello. She made my situation and stress level worse. Gladly Mr. Martinez walked me through their Spanish only computer so i could print my documents. Also, when we checked in they didn't have the room we requested so they upgraded us to a suite in which we were appreciative but when we arrived to the room the bathroom was completed flooded with water and a wet shoe print in the shower. We informed the front desk of our concern and they addressed it immediately. Unfortunately, they didn't inform us that the reason the bathroom was flooded was because of a broken showerhead that spinned and sprayed the entire bathroom no matter which way you turned it. In order to not flood the room below us we had to take stand-up baths. Then the dining experience was very interesting. They had plenty of food and choices but not very tasteful. The beach and the view from the beach was amazing but if you wanted a canopy lounger you had to pay $40 additional for each person each night and they were very old and worn down.

The staff was attentive, food was good, entertainment decent, beach clean, and both check-in and check-out quick and painless.

Relaxing with helpful staff and good food, will return again.

We there for 1 night , the tv did not work, cofimed bymait. the phone #4 was bad ,cnfirmred so coud notcall deskand was very $$$$.

It’s a simple all inclusive experience for the couple who wants a break and forget about day to day shenanigans at home. Food is good , their entertainment program will keep you busy, and you won’t get tired from walking a big property. It will give you a much meeded break.

I stayed here for 3 days and all I can say is food was amazing a couple of things need to be redone or fixed I didn’t have a WiFi connection in my room which is pretty much needed in some areas of the hotel since sometimes you can lose your phone connection (data) a lot of the staff are very courteous, educated and well behaved but had a couple issues with a few one of the chefs for snacks from 11pm to 2am had a very bad actitud on Friday night November 13th he needs to work on his bad attitude because at the end of the day we pay to stay here and to serve us is simply his job I never disrespected him so he had no reason to act like such towards my family member and me another guy same thing at ocean restaurant very bad attitude so please always talk to your staff about the importance of customer service. Other than that activities and the animation people were very nice shows on a nightly basis otherwise great!

Another excellent stay at Gran Ventana! Traveled with family and when we arrived our rooms were ready right at 3pm and check-in was fast even though there was a line. When we got to our rooms there was a “Welcome Back!” banner that we really enjoyed. We were also provided with fresh fruit and a bottle of the local rum. Property was clean and staff was very friendly and helpful. Raul was very helpful at the buffet and Rosa always had an amazing smile! Food options were good and had variety. The only thing that could improve was the water delivery at the dinner tables, I was always needing to call someone to get water. Beachfront property and security guard always available and very professional. I really liked that they were cleaning the seaweed that sometimes comes on shore everyday. Overall great stay, would definitely recommend!

That place is ok

Room was ready when we arrived a few minutes early. Pool was clean and people are very friendly. My 11 year old had a great time.

Property was nice, people and staff were friendly. Beach and pool were clean. I especially liked the swim up bar lol. Entertainment at night was small but good. I could see the dancing and karaoke from my balcony, which was nice after a long day in the sun. Decent food selection.

The property was everything that was shown on Expedia. This resort was clean, safe, fun, and the food was delicious. But the hotel did not honor their free shuttle service to and from the resort. I had to pay an additional $35.00 for a taxi to the airport when it clearly states free shuttle rides. Please tell this property on your site to remove this service as an free amenities if they do not plan to honor what they advertise. Whom do I contact to get my refund of the taxi fare of $35.00

We did like the property. We did not like that supper was not available till 6:30 pm. We did see a cockroach scurry across our out door patio, but i dont think it lived in the facility.

Excelent stay

Reception staff was very unprofessional and did not have hospitality.They were not caring and they were rude. However, a few of the staff was very polite. A nice, although the room were infested with flies and mosquitoes.

The reception staff was not respectful, they had an attitude and was not friendly. The service was not so great and i would not recommend this place to anyone.

The services is excellent

It’s the second time I visit this hotel and it is the perfect place to relax! The food is AMAZINGLY GOOD and they have several options. Is a small hotel so you don’t need to walk a lot to get to the different areas.

The man at reception was very rude when we arrived and didn't want to give me the room we paid for. Next day Joann helped us out to move to another room.shes very polite and friendly! The room is too old needs upgrades also the floor was always wet , I believe it was because the ac. The food was ok, Sunday we can’t go to the pool was invaded by the locals, same thing with the buffet we can’t eat, we had snack till dinner which we made a reservation. Overall.. definitely we are not coming back!

Food options are not good.

The air conditioner never worked properly, we kept calling the front and they acted like they didn’t care; especially because i was traveling with a toddler in a room with no working AC, rooms are old and in need of a lot of work. I would not recommend this hotel.

The property has potential, entertainment is weak the food was okay, they looked under staffed. Pool bar was closed only top bar was operating had to wait a long time for service. They would run out of curtains juices that are supposed staples at the resort and the crew were not that intense. The resort was over all okay. But wouldn’t stay there again.

It was great. Food was delicious. I will give it 10/10 for that one. The only thing they could improve is an updating a little bit. The appearance of the resort is a little bit old.

I didn’t like the facts that it’s took so long for me to check in. Even after they told me to come back after 3pm to get the keys. I waited in line again still the room was not ready. No water in my room. Even when I went to the front desk ask them. Never received. Not crazy about the food. But the place it self was clean and the people were very friendly.

I like the fact that they a large variety of food, they food was decent. I paid for two nights for the Junior suite with two queen size bed but instead they wanted to give me one king size bed I told them I paid almost $600.00 USD for two beds they told me I have to wait until 3pm which is the check in time, the room was ready 10 minutes before 4pm. When I got to the room they had place a bed that it didn’t match with the other bed and it was in horrible conditions, also didn’t have a drawer, a tall mirror or face towels. I have pictures of the bed but I can’t upload it here. I ask to speak to the person in charge and they never reach out to me. I do not recommend this resort

We enjoyed staying here very much. We liked the food, especially at Ocean Grill. I would suggest an air conditioner in the kid play area. Overall, very good.

The service was not as I expected. Thephone in the room didnt work. I had to go downstairs report the bad service that cleaning room lady did. 1 she didnt change the bathroom garbage and 2 she didnt put me clean towel. She took the ones I left on the floor for her and hanged up again.. A nd this happened 2 nigts.

Initial Impressions: The dining staff were friendly, but the reception lacked warmth and customer service. I was disappointed that they don’t offer a welcome drink (even water or juice would be fine) and require you to borrow an iron for just 40 minutes. This felt particularly frustrating given the price of $3k for 5 days. Additionally, we only received two towels for a room meant for three people, and there was no coffee maker unless you booked a junior suite. Overall, this did not feel like a 4-star experience. Incident & Discrimination: The real issue arose with an incident involving my 3-year-old son. While he was resting at the beach, I went to get him food from the food court. I was rudely told by a staff member that feeding him outside the food court was not allowed. Despite my efforts to comply, I was reprimanded multiple times by different staff members, which felt like harassment. After this experience, I discovered that Expedia had reduced their rates to $130 per night from the $274 I paid. When I raised this with the General Manager, Mr. Lora, on the 28th, I was still waiting for a price adjustment. Although they offered a VIP upgrade as compensation, it was frustrating to find that guests in that section were allowed to eat at the beach—contradicting their previous reasons for denying me. Additionally, we lost hot water in all our rooms, and the cleaning crew left a bottle of bleach in a room with a 3-year-old, which could have been dangerous.

A Nice Place to Stay in Puerto Plata

The VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort is a nice place to stay in Puerto Plata. It has a lovely pool area and a nice beach. The rooms are comfortable and basic, although they need a little bit of renovation (e.g., the bathrooms) as they seem somewhat dated. A plus that this hotel has is that it has safe parking (necessary if one has a car) and a shuttle service to the airport if one does not. We had a car and discovered that not too many hotels offered secure parking (necessary in DR). The food choices offered at breakfast, lunch and diner were fine, including lots of fruits, desserts, pastas, beef and fish dishes. However, don't expect gourmet selections - in any All-Inclusive. One negative comment is that given the number of people staying at this hotel, it sometimes takes some time to check in as well as to check out. I recommend that if you plan to stay at this hotel, avoid the weekends, and stay there during the week, when it is much calmer and obviously less crowded. ADDITIONALLY, AVOID RENTING A CAR IN THE DR. This has nothing to do with the hotel, but something that you need to know, as driving rules are not followed nor enforced in the DR. I have traveled all over the world (and yes, drivers in India, Egypt (Cairo) and Türkiye (Istanbul) are worse); nevertheless, the DR drivers are the worst in the Caribbean, as well as in Central and South America (and I have been to almost every country in these areas). Taxis are inexpensive in the DR.

I like how nice were the people but I did not like the facility they should do some repairs and make the place more beautiful.i suggest improve the show and give more entertainment choices to the clients

A good mid-range resort close to Puerta Plata Airport, but I wouldn’t go again because of the many vendors trolling the beach. Too many! Cut down the vendors if you want more people to come.

I am not sure how this place has reviews mentioning cleanliness, which is utterly lacking. The pool was filthy, the room, while “clean”- the tub was chipped and the sheets on one of the beds were oxidized. There were no towels in the room. I mentioned this to the cleaning staff and was told the towels were coming, almost 3 hours later when we decided to move to another hotel, still no towels in sight. The WiFi in the rooms is nonexistent, we checked in and checked out about 2.5 hours later. Only then was I told that there is indeed WiFi for purchase in the rooms, this wasn’t mentioned prior. It’s an all inclusive, the WiFi being extra should be mentioned upon booking. The hotel is extremely outdated. The restaurants were closed shortly after we arrived and we were told to go to the beach snack bar. All I have to say is the food there looked old and sad, the staff was very nice I must say but they have to work with what they have. The room was very small, but that’s not on the hotel, I booked what was available. The lobby isn’t air conditioned, there’s no welcome drinks or those hand towels you get at most hotels to clean your hands. There’s no welcoming period- like even directing you to check-in. There seemed to be an inordinate amount of people present at the hotel on the particular Sunday of our arrival. I also dislike the whole system of getting cards for towels, just seems like an unnecessary hassle, but this isn’t exclusive to this hotel.

Overall great place to stay. Would suggest to get the premium or royal packages since it gives the the special dining which gives you the ability to eat at a special restaurant and if you don’t like what they gave you, you can always go to the buffet, food overall was good in my opinion. Lots to choose from. Entertainment every night, there’s always something to do and if you want excursions or day trips you can book them at the hotel. Good experience just wished they had an ATM at the hotel. The nearest ATM is at the nearest mall which is only a short walk away, but you have people harassing you to buy there items, no Bueno, or make sure to bring your own cash before traveling here. They do exchange at the hotel. But no ATM.

Staff was great! However, the dining experience was lacking. We tried to get a reservation at the a la cart restaurant but they were all booked and there were no other options but the buffet.

This hotel is amongst the best in the Puerto Plata region. While the hotel needs some updating in the rooms, the staff and the food was absolutely fantastic. We especially appreciated Albania at the check in counter who looked to address all of our needs, given we were traveling with an infant. Adrian in the buffet always ensured we felt comfortable. Rooms were also very clean but need updating.

Will not recommend for the next person!

They gave 2 rooms that were on the 3rd floor and down several doors away from each other. I would think that two rooms booked under the same reservation would be next to one another. Upon asking front desk, they requested one room in one building and the other room in a SEPARATE building. Which makes zero sense after i stated i wanted the rooms closer. Fast forward, i go to ask for reservations for the next day at the only restaurant they had open. Was informed that reservations were closed for the day, we arrived at 3pm. Staff told me to come back the next morning, I did. I went back at 9am on the dot and they told me that they were full and not taking anymore reservations. We complained to the staff member that it wasn't fair since i was told to come back. Fast forward again, my brother had a blister and wanted to go into the pool so we stopped by the gift store. They didn't have any waterproof bandages and the lady told me to walk to the pharmacy. We walked to the pharmacy and they also didn't have any waterproof bandages. Later on the day, we tried to take a shower and the 2 rooms we had DIDN'T HAVE ANY WATER. My grandma had to call and they told us that the water system was being fixed. After about an hour, the water came in but there was no hot water. After calling again, they said the water is going to take a while to adjust. SHAKING MY DARN HEAD....

Staff and facilities were first rate. Our room smelled strongly of mold and the buffet food was mediocre. Oddly, the VIP dining was actually worse, with the outdoor VIP grill being pretty bad.

Upon check in we weren’t given towel cards, 2 towels for 4 people and clueless as to how to access WiFi or other amenities. We were able to get by without towel cards, called 4 times for more towels (had to repeat this process for 3 days), had to unplug router and reconnect and figured out property events on our own.

Property needs upgrade specifically the suits

The food was horrible. They didn’t have many options and it lacked flavor. You would think a resort in Dominican Republic would have Dominican food but it was clear what audience they were going for( tourists)

Overall I would say it was a very good resort. The mini fridge in your room comes stocked with 2 bottles of pop 2 cans of beer, and about 4 bottles of water. You are right on the beach. There are 4 or five different restaurants but I only ate at the buffet one it was close to my room and the other ones have wierd hours. The water in the shower didn't get very hot and the temperature would fluctuate alot also couldn't take a bath because tub drain wouldn't seal closed. Do NOT buy cigars at the mall. Counterfeit scam!!

VH Gran Ventana was amazing! The property is beautiful and the entertainment was awesome. The rooms could use some updating but it wasnt an issue because we were only in the rooms long enough to sleep. Oh, and you couldnt drink the tap water but they were generous with the bottled water. The food was filling and delicious. I would definitely stay again.

The bedroom was located in an area with high noise because an store and employee around, mosquitos, ceiling leaks in the bathroom, wet floor in from of the door because an store in the side.

O compre alla, tienen un bar en el segundo piso hermoso y los tragos en dólares encuentro que estan a buen precio.

This hotel does not live up to its online advertisements and is certainly not a 4 or 4.5-star resort. Unfortunately, the staff lacks proper training, and management is often unavailable to address escalated issues. The food quality is disappointing for an all-inclusive resort, with limited options and occasional restaurant closures, forcing guests to dine at the buffet despite promises of multiple dining choices. The liquor at the bars is of low quality, and the cocktails are poorly made. On a positive note, the grounds are well-maintained, the pools are nice, and there is private security on-site. However, I would not recommend this resort and will definitely not be returning

I enjoyed the convenience of having everything close by, and the buffet had great choices. The staff was nice and attentive. However, I requested two queen beds, but the second bed was brought in while I was in the room, and the mattress was extremely dirty. Additionally, the WiFi was turned off the night before we left. On Saturday, locals arrived, and it became a struggle to get food due to their rudeness and tendency to cut in line. There needs to be some form of regulation or a coordinator on the weekends to manage this better. If you ask me, I wouldn't stay here again.

I love going to this resort. This was my fourth time! The food is great and staff are very accommodating. Nice beach and pools are great. My kids enjoyed themselves dancing baby shark and other kids’ songs at the show. My only suggestion is that some of the rooms are outdated and in need of remodeling. I booked a junior suite last year and the room was way nicer than the junior suite I was given now.

Very nice hotel, aged but good. A/C was extremely cold so it was great. Rooms were very clean. Bars were below standard. Poorly stocked and bartenders were too stressed with a very low crowd.
