Very friendly and accomodating staff despite a very late arrival.
The location was great and the bed was comfortable but the house was in disrepair. Sink was plugged. Although nothing was obvious, due to the state of disrepair it just didn't seem clean. A lot of marks on the walls, door had gaps around the frame, etc. Proprietor claimed the house was old and difficult to keep up so there seemed to be a hint of embarrasment.
They first checked us in to the wrong room. Then made us pack and drag our bags to where we were supposed to stay. Then we got to the original room we reserved, it was not ready and haven’t been cleaned yet. So they moved us back to the room they mistakenly gave us. After making us pack and haul our stuff in the building. We went out that night and turned off all the lights in the room, came back and I turned on the bathroom light to use the bathroom and HUNDREDS OF COCKROACHES crawling everywhere in the sink, the toilet, the shower, on the floor, crawling out into the sleeping area. We freaked out and picked up all our stuff that was on the floor while the cockroaches run away to hide. I wouldn’t care so much if it was just 1 or 2 cockroaches but I’m talking like hundreds quickly dispersing as I turn on the bathroom light. It was a disgusting situation. We’re only there for 1 night and decided to just bear the night & get our of there come first sunlight. I don’t recommend staying here at all.
Pricey Given the Quality of the Room
This is a lovely historical property in a nice part of Vancouver, walkable into downtown and plenty of free parking on the street in front of the house. Our room faced the street but was very quiet and the king bed very comfortable. The cleaning staff were very noisy early the first morning which didn't allow for a later sleep in. There were splatters of red/brown liquid on the ceiling over our bed and the furniture was very dated and stained. The towels were old, there was no shampoo or conditioner (just body wash) and no ground coffee for the coffee maker. Given the room rate of $300/night, I'd say we did not get great value for the money spent but we didn't stay in the room except to sleep which we did so that was good. The property is up for sale so perhaps the owners are not being as thorough as they should.
… well… host was nice, checked us in late night, neighborhood was nice and quiet, pretty garden Old apartment, it all would be all ok, but… terrible cockroaches all around the apartment, bathroom etc…. Was NOT prepared for that…
The guest house is very charming and located on a tree-lined street in a great area. But the house is in terrible shape and should either be completely renovated or replaced. We would not go back until that happens.
Greta friendly service, exactly what we needed for a short trip.
never seen cockroaches in Vancouver until I stayed
I've never seen cockroaches in Vancouver until I stayed here. Lived in Vancouver most of my life.
Ours was a single room with toilet and bath in the hall, which was not expected. The space is clean, wifi is good and location is great. But the feel is old and not a place to hang. E.g., hallway bathroom has unpainted patches in wall, and the spout and cold water handle are loose. Might stay again for the bed in that location, but otherwise would look elsewhere.
This property is shabby. On the upside checking in was easy and quick, there was a communal refrigerator for guests to use, and there were enough towels. On the down side, there were only two plug-ins that worked, one down the side of the bed, the other in the bathroom. The two plug-ins in the base of the lamp beside the bed did not work. There was mold in the shower stall. There was one container of liquid soap on the sink, no soap in the shower. There were big open cracks in the bathroom tile. There was a hole in the bottom sheet and a stain on the top sheet. I was very glad I was only staying for one night. I would never return.
The bed was very uncomfortable
Unhealthy... the manager of the house gets angry if you don't like it and does the impossible to NOT return the money knowing that that place is horrible... the garbage near the rooms... laundry at full speed and next to the rooms!!! If you want to lose your money and go through a bad time ahead...
The room wasn’t very clean. The bathroom in particular was dirty with small bugs running around on the floor. It made us concerned about sleeping in the bed, but the bed was ‘very’ comfortable.
The accommodate was tired and in need of a good clean and painting. The host was very confused on which room we were in and spoke little English.
The room I had initially booked, with a King size bed, was double or triple booked. We were offered a room with a double sized bed instead, which we accepted after a discount. We had a two night stay, and were not offered fresh towels at all for the second night.
Although the host was friendly and the room was clean, it was a very run-down and old property in need of better upkeep and maintenance. It also had a foul odor and other tenants kept us awake past midnight.
Kind staff, but not well maintained.
The beds, sheets, glasses, pots and pans were all clean. However, the gaps and cracks around windows and doors lets insects and bugs in. My 1st room had one or two bugs. She forgot I was staying three nights, so I had a different room at the end. This new room had lots of roaches. All around the stove. The shower didn't have a door or curtain so the water was splashing onto the nice wood floor. Not well maintained. The staff was VERY nice and it was affordable compared to hotels in the area. However, due to the problems I listed, I will not be staying here again.
Mold in shower. No fire alarms or outside escape.
Rooms were clean but quirky. Once grand house has been split into rooms, some with with tacked-on bathrooms. Price is great and neighbourhood is lovely and quiet. We stayed 2 different nights. Both rooms comfy and beds were good. Room with shared bathroom had communal coffee maker and kitchenette. Room with private bathroom had no access to kitchen.
Kettle on the roomm but no café or tea
Hairdryer and heater didn't work. Furniture was cheap. Decor lacking any aesthetic value. No TV, coffee pot, Kleenex, extra blanket,in the room. Didn't feel like a guest at all.
Would definitely stay here again.
Inside and out side of the building is very trashy, sniffing bed rooms, unresponsive staff and totally not comfortable and safe.
The place is really good, is a great location and the hosts are really kind.
Old 1930 'ish town house, plenty of character. Welcoming host, A/C & wifi. Fairly average but for the price sound value. TV's throught the building not working!
I arrived early for a 3 o'clock check-in and asked if we could wait in the beautiful garden area. Instead we were signed in straight away and set up in our room.
DO NOT RENT HERE. Was scared for my health and well-being and did not stay here. It stunk of cat urine with cats around the property. The owners completely lied about the state of the place. Shared accomodations (such as a bathroom). Everything was torn and shredded. The couch was damaged and needed to be tossed. I've stayed in horrible hotel rooms. But this was definitely the worst. As I said, I couldn't even stay here because of allergies and fear for my health. It really gave me such a bad impression of Vancouver. I ended up getting so frustrated with the city that I drove an hour away in fear of getting something equally as bad. And my concerns did not feel validated by either Expedia or this company. DO NOT STAY HERE.
Not exactly what was advertised in the website, neither the cleanliness of the place!!! The most astonishing thing about the specific room is the blood that was splattered on the ceiling. I should have demanded a complete refund but that teached me a lesson how to shop around for a hotel room next time.
Great for the price, bed was clean and comfy, and room was clean enough. Location was perfect, but upper floor room had no screens and no A/C. Not sure what was splattered on the ceiling, but it did look like someone attempted to clean it. Reminded me of travels overseas in my backpack days. I would recommend, as long as you’re not expecting a hotel
This was the worst lodging experience I have ever had. The owner of the property attempted to tell us that she thought there was only 1 person in the room, and she took us through a basement maze of hallways to a dingy room with one bed. The reservation paper was right in front of her, and it clearly said there were 4 guests and it was confirmed by this person as available, a room with multiple sleeping spaces (queen, couch, single). Then she attempted to move us to another room that would sleep three, and it would cost another $100 in order to rent that room. And she said it was her best room and we could not rent it for four, and then another scam moment, "Oh, I just have had a call and this room has just been rented for tonight." By the way, it's now 12:30 AM. With that, she told us there were no rooms and we had to leave, putting us out on the street in Vancouver, most places booked for the night. How does someone do something like this? This woman and her establishment - Manor Guest House -- needs to be delisted from Expedia, and everywhere else!
The check in procedure was very inconvenient. I could not easily find anyone working and I had asked someone else who was staying here for help. I came to check in at 3pm as per their hours. Was told the room was not ready and to come back in an hour. I came back at 5pm and got into my room. I placed all my personal items in the room that were not needed for the night, locked my individual room and asked a staff member if I needed an additional key or anything like that for the primary entrance. I was told that the main entrance is never locked. Which was a little unsettling. I had gone out for the night and returning at just after 2am. The front door was unlocked as they said. Unlocked my room and woke up a couple that had also payed for and were given my room. We tried calling the manager as indicated on sheets on the walls of the building and were left to voicemail. Speaking with the couple they checked in at 7pm and the employees had taken all my belongings out of the room after they noted my house and car keys, extra clothes all all my toiletries were still present. The employees had placed all my belongings in the common area/front office which is a part of the unlocked section of the house. I tried communicating with one of the workers for an extended period of time on my situation and on several instances of this conversation I was asked to pay for another room. Eventually they placed me in a different room with no added expense.
Electric wall socket did not have a wall plate, connections were exposed. Mold and mildew in bathroom. Moldy food in the refrigerator. Heavy dust and cobwebs everywhere. Strong unpleasant odors. Neighborhood was loud and noisy, to include someone yelling every night (3 night stay) until 12:30 - 1:00. Laundry room had “Not Working” sign on door, even though the dryer was drying clothes when we arrived. We didn’t use the facilities, but should have been tipped off to what we were in for. One of the worst places I’ve ever stayed, including military combat tours to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Liberia.
The house smells like cats and shrimp. The beds were not comfortable and were made poorly. You get what you paid for. Cheap. There is no AC. This normally wouldn’t be a problem but we went at the hottest time of the year. I wished I was informed of that detail.
This place is odd. Beware that there are pictures of the outer buildings on Google that give you a false impression. You will be assigned to a room in one of two big old houses. The rooms themselves seem clean but the outside is gross and trashy. People leave the outside doors open all day and night which did not help us feel safe. The neighborhood itself is lovely but it is urban. I would not recommend this to anyone who is concerned about safety
shared area was poor
Arrived at 6 told wasn't ready, had to wait for room Very dated and run down
Nice location, nice staff. A little bit unclean and unkept in some areas but it was overall alright. I liked that the house was very old. The garden around the place is very well kept too.
House is well-located. Room was spacious. However, bedding and towels were washed in a strong cheap detergent and had a strong oder. Bath mat smelled moldy. Small bugs in the kitchen. Room and house were not clean.
The staff were great despite the uncleaningness
Beautiful old Victorian house only 4 blocks away from Broadway - City Hall train station. Very affordable, great location, and welcoming to guests. I would definitely stay here again. My partner lost an earing after we left and they emailed us back saying they found it! 5 stars.
This place is a total bait & switch scam. To call the place we were offered a hostel would be generous. When we arrived, we found large old house, dimly lit, creaky floors, and a bunch of old papers taped to the wall with information about WiFi and stuff (ISP defaults). We were met by a flustered woman with a stack of papers. She shuffled through trying to find my booking and when she did, she sighed and told me that they had "triple-booked" my room, but there was another house about a mile away with a room. She said "the manager" was over there now, and would pick us up to take us over. I told her we would just drive over to check it out because I wasn't planning to stay there. She insisted the manager take us, but I guess she was surprised we had a car. We were already looking for another room, but wanted to give them a chance. We met "the manager" in a residential alley, and he led us through the side yard, into a very similar large old house. It was dirty and there were a bunch of people working in the kitchen (this was about 10:30PM), and some of them broke off and followed us as we walked through the house. The air smelled strongly of cigarette smoke and mildew. The room we were showed was a dingy bedroom with two old metal beds and old foam mattresses, and a fan on a chair. We politely excused ourselves and asked for a refund, which I have not received. I couldn't say if the photos are from the first house but I seriously doubt it.
Scam DO NOT BOOK HERE
Vancouver West guest house is a total scam! When we arrived, they took us up to the room and somebody was already in there. They then brought us back down and said that we could stay at their house. They then said that the credit card machine was not working and they would take us to take out $700 to pay them. As we were leaving, two more couples showed up in the same thing happened. Do not book here! Such a scam!
Parking was enough and close to downtown
Untidy bathroom
Does not look at all like pictures.
The staff at this property are amazing and doing the best they can with the facilities that they manage. The owners of this property however, seriously need to invest some decent cash into upgrading the two houses. The beds are old, the rooms are insanely hot, no air conditioning provided, and the overall property is outdated and run down. Again, this is not the fault of the helpful and kind women working hard to maintain the place but if the property owners who are clearly too cheap to invest in the property.
I have never written a review before, and didn't believe the ones that I read about this "hotel". It was quitet, and close to the hospital, in a good neighbourhood. That's all I can say good. Bad: It was not clean, and the King size mattress was so old you could see it sank in the middle. There was nothing in the room, no TV, phone, radio, microwave, fridge, no AC and very hot, only one fan and open windows. It reminded me of cheap hotels in Central America. There is no restaurant. I had to share the small bathroom with two long-term tenants whose personal items were in the bathroom. The manager forgot to order me a taxi for the airport next morning. All for $200 a night. Expedia should take this listing off.
Sometimes it happens
This place sucks!!!
The hostess was not very friendly....telling me to be very quiet...while I was asking about the place...:-( The area was very nice, quiet neighbourhood. I would not stay here again, ever!! :-((((

It was conveniently located with off street parking. Fortunately there were additional units besides the one we rented because we rented so far in advance they had no record of the rental, and that room was not available. The next room we were given had not been cleaned, the next room we kept, but had a weird smell.
