Clean and quiet cottage. Easy access with keys in lock box. Plenty of space for 2 people. Nespresso machine incl milk frother and pods and milk provided. We only stayed in the cottage for 8 hours overnight so can’t comment further.
Beautiful serene spot for a weekend getaway. Property was lovely with a nice fireplace and views
Close to wineries. Comfy bed.
Lovely weekend at the wineries!
My husband and I had an absolutely lovely stay at Unlax. Such a peaceful setting, small number of cabins, kangaroos wandering into view of an evening and the birdlife was lovely too. Hospitality inside the cabins was the best I have ever experienced. Very generous meal provisions provided - more than we could eat - and the bed was very comfortable. Location right in the heart of several wineries within walking distance. Will definitely recommend and come again. Thanks so much for making our stay so relaxing and enjoyable.
Escape the city
We had a wonderful 2 night stay at Unlax. The standalone cottages are in a great location and perfect to escape the city and spend some time in nature. They are basic but all the essentials are there and the fireplace was wonderful on the cold winter nights (heating was also available). The cabin was also spotlessly clean and well presented. The only minor gripe we had was that the queen bed, while okay, was not the most comfortable and a little firm for us (but everyone’s preference for beds is different). Steve and Nat were wonderful hosts and we were greeted with a newly lit fire, a glass of sparkling and cheeseboard on arrival which was a nice touch. They also provided the basics for a fry breakfast or cereal. We had a fantastic stay and we would definitely try Unlax again on our next trip to the Hunter.
Very nice place Handy to the vineyards and for concerts
Memorable stay
Wonderful property - everything we needed. Can't beat getting greeted with flutes of Champaign and kangaroos!
We stayed in their budget luxury accommodation for our mini-honeymoon just after our wedding. We loved the fact they waited for our arrival, to give us a glass of wine and a tour of the property to let us know where everything was. Only downside to the property really was there were only two towels. But a quick phone call would solve the problem. We loved the spa bath, and loved the little visit from their pup Lexi, her excited face made our afternoon amazing. Overall it was a wonderful week away from home, and loved the wonderful personalities of the husband and wife couple that run the property, and we want you to know how much we appreciated everything you did for us throughout this time.
Cabins were nice, great setting. Breakfast is eggs, bacon, bread, milk, juice and cereal stocked in a fridge. Not too far from everything. The host was lovely. Enjoyed ourselves.
Amazing
This place is amazing, all the luxury you need. The host is a lovely lady
Lovely, albeit a little chilly in winter
Really pleasant stay. Quite difficult to find the reception in the dark on arrival. Room was very cold, although the do have electric blankets which make it a bit better! Very good complimentary food package and good facilities in the house. Overall a lovely stay and great location for wine tours etc.
This was the perfect getaway. Our cabin was so cosy and provided us with the serenity and relaxation we craved for a weekend away from the city. Would highly recommend!
We really enjoyed our stay and the location was perfect, close to the popular wineries however it still felt secluded and peaceful. We stayed in cottage 4 which was equipped with everything we needed.
Loved everything, nothing bad to say. Away from the rat race of sydney
We drove from Sydney & my family (that live locally) met us when we checked into cabin & were waiting for us to get changed to go to an event (in 1/2 hour) at a nearby winery. The person who met us advised that if they waited at cabin, they had to pay $100 to be on the property. Very unwelcoming, especially as cost us almost $600 for one night. Also, no vegetarian/ vegan option for breakfast, no wood for fire, no-one at checkout in the morning - overall very poor service.
Property was lovely, beds clean and very comfortable. Only down side was a two bedroom cost us $530 for the night and a friends Air B&B fell through, Unlax said they accept extras for a ‘fee’ which we were honest about at checkin, the fee which isn’t mentioned in the email turns out to be $100 per person! An uncomfortable roll away bed was offered but the lounge had more padding. We found the ‘fee’ was very excessive given what was offered.
Unlax was a lovely place to stay, very peaceful. The yurt was very comfortable, with everything you could want. Loved the breakfast hamper, very special touch. Very relaxing sitting out on the verandah with a wine and cheese platter. Very central to everything, we had a lovely 4 day break. Only complaint would be the very hard pillows and soft bed, we bought new pillows, lucky we needed some at home.
A great getaway, quiet, clean and quality accomodation. Would love to return again.
ah the serentity
The Cabin was fantastic, it is like been 100 miles into the bush while only being 5 minutes from all the wineries, i would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone wanting a quiet weekend away.
Fantastic
The cabin was perfect. It was lovely and peaceful. Every morning and evening we sat and watched the kangaroos with a coffee/ glass of wine. The cabin itself was clean, well sized and had everything we needed. The lovely staff even left a little Easter egg hunt through the cabin for Easter Sunday.
Great place in the Hunter Valley
Had a fantastic 2 night stay. Peaceful, clean, comfortable beds, provisions for breakfast, eggs bacon etc. fantastic hosts even came and brought us muffins that were still warm for our journey home, delicious. Thank you.
Repeat visit
Having stayed before with friends we were both looking forward to revisiting the facility. Seems to me that an excellent venue is slightly let down by a couple of things. One is the advertised complimentary breakfast, a loaf of frozen bread, six eggs and a container of orange juice does not constitute a breakfast! Other facilities in the region of a similar nature offer a much better selection. Secondly, the bathroom selection is very poor, no hair washing or body wash products available, again other similar venues offer much more. On a positive note the location is fairly central to all the Hunter has to offer and is in close proximity to everything. A very good winery is just at the entrance of the property and is highly recommended. Would we stay there again, absolutely, the property is very relaxing and has that rustic Hunter Valley experience, lots of bushland and native wildlife however next time, and there will be a next time, we would bring a lot more supplies. Even with some shortfalls the property is highly recommended. Cheers, Mike and Pam.
Best of both worlds
A quiet cottage stay that feels like you are in the middle of nowhere yet reality is that you are only 5mins drive from places like Roche Estate, Hope Estate, Pokolbin Village, Hunter Valley Gardens etc. Cottage was well equipped and spacious, we stayed as 2 couples and had plenty of personal space. BBQ was great for breakfast on the verandah, and the fireplace at night was a welcoming touch (there is air conditioning for those not wanting to use the fire). Breakfast provided was 1 dozen eggs, juice, milk, tea/coffee, bread (in freezer) plus condiments, and cereals.
Loved it!!
Great cabin really well equipped and came with a continental breakfast which was sensational. Cabin is on the bush with lots of kangaroos hopping past with their Joey's also lots of bird life. The verandah was great to sit in the sun with a glass of wine then head inside to light the fire to top off a great day - all in all great place to stay really close to wineries and the gardens- would highly recommend.
Great spot for a weekend break. Clean and well equipped in lovely location.
Lovely cabin close to centre of hunter valley acti
We really enjoyed stating at Buffs. The Cabins are very close to everything around the Pokolbin area. The property is lovely, very spacious and private. Lovely to see a few kangaroos hopping around too. Great to have the fireplace as well .
Outdated cabin in the bush
Expected a lot more for $275 per night. Location was good but this place needs a total refurb. Sliding screen door off it's track, bad grout job in the shower breaking away, kitchen from the 80's with leaking hot water tap, super loud huge aircon unit in the lounge. Wood heater was fun but only enough wood for 1 night. The breakfast provided reminded me of kid's camp - definitely below par for the price & the locale. Overall a disappointing experience.
great location and very quiet
great location, very quiet, not far from the wineries. the Cabins are very clean and well equipped
Buffs - clearly value for money was excellent.
Wonderful setting and waking up with kangaroos staring at you was fantastic experience. Within walking distance to Amanda's restaurant as well. Lovely spot!
Great kangaroo viewing!
Self check in with no contact with staff is a bit weird, but the cabins were clean and comfortable. The highlight was the kangaroo family close by and the water lily pond. It is very convenient for wine tasting, loved Blueberry Hill.
Bush getaway
Great cottage surrounded by bush. Easy to find and within easy access to wineries and shops/restaurants. Very clean, comfortable with a lovely pool. Had everything we needed.
Lovely cabins... breakfast could be improved
The cabin was simple but lovely with a beautiful bush outlook. Amanda's restaurant is a 5-10 min walk down the road which was superb as no one had to drive. The key system worked well - it was left in a key lock box with a code. The cabin was clean and the beds were really large and super comfortable. The breakfast provisions were the major disappointment - 1 loaf of white bread, 1 tub of no frills butter, limited condiments and only 8 eggs... for 4 people for 2 breakfasts! 1 egg each for each day was pretty poor. We have stayed at other places for a similar price where breakfast provisions included plentiful amounts of bacon, eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, Orange Juice and more. For $400 a night we were expecting better, and if had known would have brought our own. As it was, we had to get back in the car and go out to buy more food for the morning. Also mosquitoes were a big issue - the mosquito net had holes in it and our baby had many bites in the morning. This is not to say we wouldn't recommend Buffs, or go back - just next time we would be more prepared and bring our own breakfast food and mosquito repellant.
Gorgeous out of the way bush setting
Peaceful weekend away in the Hunter. Buffs was perfect. Very well stocked cabins and great javing the bbq. Blinds need a bit of a clean.
Peace & Tranquility With all the Comforts of Home
Beautifully built cedar cabin (one of only four) in the middle of the bush yet still close to everything. The cabin had all the comforts of home - television, stereo, BBQ, DVD player and DVD's, magazines, plenty of firewood for the fireplace, breakfast supplies, plenty of towels, mosquito nets over the beds, a pool, and more. We mentioned when booking that we were hoping to be able to swim in the pool (even though it was only a week into Spring) and were told that would not be a problem. They also let us check in early (you don't get that too often!) which was hugely helpful as we were doing an early half-day wine tour. We recommend the Two Fat Blokes wine tour, and that you pick up one of their BBQ packs at the end to take back with you for dinner. Best steak and chorizo sausage we have had in a very long time! We didn't have to drive to dinner, ate like kings, and got to relax in a beautiful environment. We wanted to be surrounded by nature and peace and quiet and be able to relax and enjoy our time in the cabin while we were there, and that is exactly what we got. I don't think you will find another venue in the Hunter that has received as many positive reviews as this one. We loved our stay and will definitely be back.
Relaxing , quiet , loved it
Would recommend this place and will be coming back with the whole family, loved looking out for kangaroos . The only thing we got it with breakfast and wasn't what I thought and not enough for us 2 for three mornings. But loved the place
Really lovely setup in very serence surroundings
Very close to wineries and in wonderfully quite area. Easy to find and loved the stay there. Only thing that needs attention are the wooden blinds in rooms as they are not working properly. Apart from that, either sitting on the front vernadah having a couple of drinks watching nature or relaxing inside with the wood fire crackling in the background, it was very comfortable and relaxing. We will be back.
A "could have been" outstanding stay.
Located in a peaceful bushland setting with adequate space between other cottages. And close to all places and attractions we wished to visit. Included all the expected cottage facilities and amenities. Disappointing, was the provided breakfast (generic brands of bread, milk, fruit drink - not pure drink -35% and one issue of packaged cereal and very limited number of conserves). A dozen eggs was provided. The most unhappy part of the stay was the bedding. We both had difficulty sleeping on the uncomfortable mattress and awoke each morning with aches.
Cosy Cottage
Short getaway trip with the girls. This place was great! Warm and cosy with a fire place. Stay was enjoyable, close to vineyards and cheese!
Cosy B&B in a rural setting
Had a lovely stay at Buffs. The cottages are very cosy and well maintained. The setting is beautiful and very close to many vineyards and restaurants.
Nice hotel in the bush
Nice surrounding, very quiet and private and close to lots of nice wineries. Nice cabin with BBQ facility on the balcony. Nice breakfast pack waiting in fridge which is really a nice surprise. Facility is not in brand new state.
tranquility base!
Loved the peace and quiet whilst sitting on the verandah watching the kangaroos and wallabies. Staff are there if needed but otherwise happy to let us get on with it! Highly recommended.
Pleasant stay @ Buffs
We had a lovely w/e away with friends at Buffs. It's quiet, peaceful & secluded. Apart from our BBQ gas running out at the end of our BBQ we couldn't fault it. Great value & gorgeous friendly bull mastiff dog!!
Very nice cabin in peaceful environs, great location
Great!
We stayed in cottage 1, which is a round wooden cabin. It had it's on fire place, lovely interiors, nice deck area. Would highly recommend Buffs.
Woodfire Burning and a Hunter Shiraz in hand...
My husband and I, along with some friends were after a relaxing few days away from the daily grind and we got what we were looking for. We have stayed at Buffs a few times over the years and this time was consistent with our prior visits. After a long hard day of wine tasting - we headed back to our little wood cabin, got the fire going and settled in for the night. Every morning the visiting dog, Cyprus, would come to the door to beg for bacon and cuddles. Charming, private and quaint. Would recommend this to anyone who wants to relax amongst the vineyards.
close to most wineries
very peaceful and romantic, the breakfast is a nice touch
Nice location. Close to wineries. Cozy cottage with fireplace. Reasonable price. Would stay again :)
Bush accomodation at its best
In the middle of the worst storm in years, we were warm and comfortable. A welcoming warm cottage on arrival, the owners were thoughtful making sure we had enough firewood and water, considering power was out in the area. This would be the perfect spot for a rest or visiting the fabulous wineries up in the area, we did both. Can't wait to return.

Facilities: Home away from home; Value: Fantastic; Service: Outstanding; Cleanliness: Spotless; Wendy at reception was extremely helpful and provided us with lots of information on things to do in the area.
All was wonderful except the non flexible check in. We had an event to get to and even though the host was on site for an hour prior to our check-in time they wouldn’t let us in until 1pm sharp which was when our event started. Otherwise a beautiful location with kangaroos visiting near our verandah.
