Staff are helpful solving my problems
Didn't have any /most amenities listed. Very loud & horrid beds
Very convenient for attending conferences at the U of C
The room was clean and breakfast was great. My only complaint is that the toilet wouldn’t flush properly.
Convenient, good food, clean and well managed. Would like to return when possible
Love staying here it’s right on campus where we need to be and an easy trip to down town.
I enjoyed the new eating area right beside the hotel The Landing ! All you can eat !
Right on the U of A campus. Great breakfast in the attached dining hall.
great location if wanting university area. Very simple dorm like room.
The room and the bathroom are clean. The rest of the hotel area are acceptable.
It is located in the University of Calgary campus. The room heaters need service.
It was a very nice stay. Nice and healthy breakfast
It was great being right on campus. Very convenient.
Excellent location if you are competing at Olympic oval
Great place
parking is $10 Breakfast is awesome Rooms are hot. I had a/c on Bring a fan. I was in room 545.
Amazing Good!!
Amazing!!
Only thing I’d change would be to have breakfast available earlier - 6:00am start preferred, so that guests can utilize breakfast option and still have time to get to early professional meetings. Thanks!
I liked the 1-bedroom suite and found the room comfortable. However, I was disappointed with the " full wet bar". This was the description on the web site and I found it misleading. To me, a "wet bar" is a fridge stocked with drinks. To even say, a "full" wet bar suggests this. It turns out the room had a sink, fridge, coffee maker and microwave. Please keep the description to say just that. Also, desk lamp did not work - light bulb may have been burnt out.
Very close to the McEwan Conference center. The breakfast is included with your reservation.
Okay
It’s just a basic hotel. Don’t really like the bedding or the sinks or floor. Hey parking is annoying. But the breakfast is outstanding and staff kind.
We stayed at Hotel Alma for a campus tour and it was fun to be right on campus. We ate in the dining hall and got a good feel for student life. The hotel is clean and the staff is friendly. The rooms are tiny though.
The rooms are good for the price. I did not like the cafeteria style breakfas. I much prefer the breakfast that is offered during the summer.
Liked the location. Quiet. Great variety at breakfast buffet.
The room was very nice and quiet and the beds were excellent. The front desk was great and the breakfast was very good.
The hotel is right on the University of Calgary campus and breakfast in the dining hall was fantastic.
campus setting, close to Union/Student Center & libraries
It’s a modern hotel, with a retro feel. Room was spacious and bed was very comfortable. Quality linens and pillows. Little kitchen had microwave and fridge. Keurig coffee maker was a nice touch. Breakfasts were included and offered a solid start. My allergies and my daughter's vegan needs were met, I needed to confirm that with the desk upon check-in. There was a secure parking in the nearby parkade We enjoyed our stay very much.
On campus and quiet, just like dorm. There is no TV, parking is not free. Driving on campus is tricky. Easy access to student food court.
Great rooms and handy for train. Quiet and spacious.
It looks more like a student residence, with hotel features
Check in was at a different building, parking was $10. It’s a university campus so small rooms, no television or food. You get what you pay for.
Terrible place to stay
I wouldn’t recommend this place especially if you arrive late. It was not in the description that you will be sent to another building on campus after check in. I’ve stayed here before and everything was always in one building. We checked in at 4am and the lady gave me a map to scavenger hunt the building down in the dark. And parking situation was crappy. We were in a pick up truck and there were no close parking near by. As well... not sure why anyone would make a not a thru road parking lot. So good luck backing all the way up with a truck. The whole infrastructure was a mess. Plus they charge $10 per night for parking. That was the most irritating part. If you add all the aggravation and parking up, you might as well stay at a regular hotel for less. And the price you pay is for the cheapest looking room in the pictures, not the nicer ones. Barely a blanket style of dorm room. Just FYI
The height of bed was like crazy... The building we checked in in and where we live were actually different, the room was very cold because they only offer us blanket and a single layer white bed sheet but no quilt so we had to ran to another building to borrow some warmer stuff, also they dont offer hair dryer. no kettle, not even a phone you can call front desk for any kind if help, you just have to run to another building which is about 4 gate distance. I mean if you want make it a hotel, do something “real hotel”
This is a University Dorm. Parking is an additional $10.
Every thing not good because its not a hotel its a student accommodation
Did not like anything about hotel alma poor service poor communication upon making a reservation by phone no room service no tv no couch just deplorable
I like that the university uses vacant dorm rooms, but it takes so long to get anywhere for food.
Feels comfortable and safe here. Suites are large with large windows and nice views of Calgary
Basic, but clean and affordable. Building and rooms are well maintained.
The place was nice. Didn’t realize it was a dorm. I didn’t realize didn’t have breakfast. Nobody said we had to pay for parking. It is nice if you going in as a family for the extra rooms cost more but would be good. Needs at least a coffee maker. Fridge and stove there no dishes. Seems very safe and secure.
This is my second stay at Alma Hotel. First time, I stayed in an Eurostyle room, and this time I stayed in a one bedroom dorm room and both stays were excellent. The Eurostyle room included excellent buffet breakfast at the Landing and it was more luxurious, but was more expensive and the room was smaller. For the one bedroom suite, I was occupying one of the bedroom from the 2 bedroom suite, with the other bedroom being unoccupied. In the room I had had a coffee maker, a full size fridge, lots of shelves and drawers everywhere, clean towels, soap, shampoo and conditioner, coffee and tea. I wish it would have been provided a hair dryer with the one bedroom suite, but it was summer and my hair dried up naturally. The bed was more comfortable in the Eurostyle room than in the one bedroom suite, but it wasn't bad. I would stay in both rooms again.
It was an OK experience, really simple room, good for business trips.
I was given one room at the residence. They are by groups of three rooms with a common kitchen and restroom. When things are not too crowded they obviously give you a lone room, which is great. The kitchens dont come with any dishes or utensils, so people should know that. I did not care. The price was right, the room was clean and the place was quiet.
Not good
Didn’t realize I booked the prisoners suite. This place felt like jail.
Worst room ever . Shower was not properly working . Ac was not working . Water was coming out from tap like drops . So many other things
Clean, quiet, great reasonable priced breakfast. would go again
Too basic, terrible beds, not enough services close by
Bathroom and bedroom doors stuck when you closed them, and made a very loud noise when you tried to open them again, potentially waking other occupants up. Was very clean though and reasonably priced!
In essence this is a dormitory and should state that up front U need to go to the main building then they will give u a map the Campus and u have to pretend your back in college looking for ur room terrible experience again they should have said it was a dorm
Did not know we were getting a dorm room. One towel and one hand towel in the room. No amenities at all.
Hoping to improve their check in process, they should also
Inexpensive, but you get what you pay for. If you are there to just study, perfect.
It's close to UoC, nice view, clean Do not like the expensive cost, services
The price is good, but it's not worth the place. The washroom was dirty, there was hair on the bedsheet. The floor was so dirty our feet turned black from it! Also didn't like how there wasn't even a phone and i have to drive to a different building for customer service.
old futurist
Hotel Alma feels like stepping into the movie "A Clockwork Orange" with it similar look feel colours and motifs
Each room was lockable with specific keys. Nice to be on the university grounds. Starbucks 2 minute walk away. Shower needs a new head for better coverage. Towels supplied very small. Bed in rhe room was very thin. Black out shades would be a huge bonus
I liked the easy check in and the friendly staff..
I liked the whole uni experience and that it was close to public transport. Also that subway and Starbucks was close by.the rooms and kitchen common area was good as well. I would have liked a tv, kettle, hairdryer, not essential but would have been handy, especially the kettle. I was not a fan of the waterproof mattress, it was too cold, possibly needed a few more blankets to put on the mattress to stop the coldness coming thru.
This property was not as advertised. It was not an apartment but three student pods with a common kitchen and toilet. The bed was advertised as a double but was only for one person. Each room had one small bath towel for two people. The bed sheet was too small for the bed. The kitchen did not have anything- not a cup or a spoon.
Check in was one kilometre from room. No phone in room. When wifi did not work I had to drive 1km to try and get help. Upon return to my room the wifi only worked partly. I did not drive back again. Blanket was very thin. I was cold at night. No other blanket was available. Service seems to require a mobile and for international travelers this can be a problem.
I liked the two rooms but there were no Kleenex or classes in the kitchen and the beds were not very good
I had know idea I would be staying in a dorm. So disappointing.
Nice room for overnight stay, keep in mind that there are no amenities
Very clean, typical dorm style rooms, good value. No fitted sheet so flat sheet came off with minimal movement. No tv. Full kitchen but no dishes, pots or utensils. The stand up shower flooded the bathroom no matter what direction the shower head was moved. Good for a one or two night stay at a competitive rate.
This is not a hotel- it is a University residence. The accommodation is fine for what it is. Basic, clean place to sleep with limited amenities. The description needs to be clear that this is what you are booking.
It was nice
Uncomfortable beds, no extra blankets when asked and no free breakfast, expensive Really nice staff, good location, nice view out window, large kitchen area
Best choice for attending event in UofC
The hotel is not fancy but very comfortable. We come to University of Calgary for a music competition and this hotel is the best choice: only 2 minutes walk to practice rooms and competition hall.
I didn’t like how the internet was down, they charged extra for parking, and the staff never warned that the dorm doors lock automatically.
Excellent value for the cost. The mattress and bedding in our room was below average, but reasonable for how much we paid for the space.
It’s a clean, calm and secure place ever. Close to transit and 15 minutes drive to Downtown. I will come again here and I highly recommend this place. Thank you 😊
I lived in dorm building. It was clean and nobody share the apartment with me. I love the microwave in the simple kitchen.
Generally really good, well appointed rooms. The one bedroom suite was really comfortable and well suited to a business trip. Having breakfast included and a train station on campus was very convenient. The rooms don’t have any cooking facilities which was fine, but there were also no plates/bowls/cutlery which was a bit awkward as there was a fridge and microwave in the room. Food options were quite limited on and near the campus, especially on weekends and evenings, so this would have been helpful.
Pathetic amenities , wifi did not work, not hot water. Uncomfortable beds.
Rather comfortable room on university campus, but there hotels where environment is better
The check in was somewhat cumbersome. You go to a building, check in, and then u have to get into your car and drive to a nearby building, find the car park and walk through a few corridors before getting to your room. It is a university students' residence. It is very clean. Has a fridge, freezer & microwave. No kettle, no plates, no cutlery or crockery. Very simple & basic room, but clean. Cheap but relatively comfy mattress. There is a $10 parking fee per night, which they have either not mentioned in their ad or I have failed to notice it. Good WiFi. Very clean.
Great value for a basic room that's truly clean and convenient.
Good: Clean & cheap. Bad: nothing in particular comes to mind.
Better than expected, good breakfast, friendly staff
Don't bother - they definitely won't
Concierge staff is inexperienced and not up to the task. I received a parking ticket because they saved my license plate incorrectly. Despite repeated requests to resolve the matter with the parking authority, they have not responded. I would not recommend this hotel simply because of concierge staff's uncaring attitude towards guests. Only positive - the suite was very clean and well kept.
A Dorm Room. Let's call it what it was! I don't know if it was an issue of description (or lack there of) by Expedia, or the fault of the property, But it was advertised as a 1 bedroom apartment. And some can argue that technically that is what it was. But I'm sure that most people would feel a 1 bedroom apartment is pretty different than a dorm room with a shared "kitchen" and shared restroom in a school. I didn't see any mention of it being on a campus at all. It is Housing that is On the University of Calgary campus. We checked in at 1 building which actually did look like a nice hotel. During the check in process, we were told that there will be three doors but the other two were empty. I was like, what? But OK... I guess we'll find out, and then was directed to a whole different building that I had to drive to at a different area on the campus. Once opening the door, it was a communal area with a sink refrigerator, and a bathroom.... And Three Doors. This is when it dawned on us that this "One Bedroom Apartment" was actually just a Dorm room, and If there were other tenants in the other units, we would be sharing the bathroom with them. Kept feeling like someone else would walk in at any time. The dorm room was tiny. The "mattress" was a plastic foam cushion that was probably designed for bed wetters. The frame it was on, was more like chain link fence and we sank in it. Had to put mattress on the floor to sleep. Horrible night's sleep.
I booked online, room was clean & comfortable and staff was helpful. Campus was quiet and grounds lovely, I used the pool & my dtr used the gym, both were in good condition/easy to access. I chose this site cause it was close to my family & within my budget, I would recommend it and stay there again. thx
we stayed in the dorm of the university. the beds were too firm and there's not much amenities. they should put a note in the room description that thie room is part of the U of C dorms and not the hotel..
check the sheets
every thing was good except the bed sheets were dirty, we had to change room even though we unpacked every thing
The parking was bad - the pictures were misleading as we stayed in another building and the room didn't have a TV as in pictures. The bedding was minimal. The walls are very thin.
Basic Service and Comfort for a Basic Price
The beds are typical dorm beds so they aren't the comfiest, also the cleaning staff didn't seem to replace the towels on my 4 day stay no matter how I left them...but for a basic level of service it was clean and easy when trying to meet with people on campus.
It was a nice, clean and easy to find and get to. The staff were friendly and the room was clean and well kept. It was overall a very enjoyable stay. Thank You for Everything:)
Expedia should not advertise one bedroom flat's at Alma including a private bathroom. The bathroom is shared with another room. This is ok if you know in advance, but Expedia failed to mention this fact anywhere on their site.
Basic room, clean, close to University. Convenient parking.
Hated the 2 bedroom option. No common sitting area. Mattresses covered with heavy plastic that made a lot of noise when moving. Got upgraded to 1 bedroom that had a hideabed for 25.00 more. Said parking was free but was 10.00 a night and parade was a long way away from hotel
I was happy with my stay and do plan to return. :)
Clean & modern, with comfortable beds & environment controls in each room.
The staff went above and beyond to help me when I had problems with expedia, helped me figure out how to print a long paper to read at a conference, called me a cab, and in general were friendly and kind!
Staff was amazing. Very helpful and friendly. They did everything they could to make our stay as comfortable and pleasant as possible.
Location (right on campus) extremely convenient for events taking place on campus. Rooms are small but clean and pleasant.
Great location though parking is a bit of a walk. It was very quiet and I essentially had a dorm room - complete with a mattress on a frame over shelving but still surprisingly comfortable! Restaurant didn’t seem to be open though it was the last time I stayed! Can’t beat the price though!! I’d stay again for the cost savings.
Super nice place
We had a great time
Convenient. Friendly staff. Great value. Could do better in food choices.
Staff was extra helpful and kind. Place was quiet and lovely. Housekeeping was excellent
Basic room that was clean. Had a full fridge and microwave

We found the 2 bedroom dorm room to be as we expected. It was very bare and simple but the beds were comfortable, it was quiet and the price was reasonable for what we got. No TV in suite so bring your devices. The cupboards are bare in the kitchenette so bring what you need to have breakfast in your room. There is no place to get coffee without getting in the car and taking a drive so keep that in mind! Next time we’ll bring something along. The parkade is a bit of a walk away and costs $11 per night for parking. Overall it was basic but what we needed.
