The hotel was lovely but the service and hospitality was wonderful

We booked the suite with the hot tub, and it was so spacious and clean. The staff were excellent and provided a lovely breakfast in the morning!

Loved this property. Hosts were very accommodating, room and location were charming. Wish the bed was softer but otherwise wouldn’t change a thing.

Would stay again.

Bravo to Bora who was more than helpful. Your restaurant picks were excellent as well! The property was immaculate, can’t imagine there is a nicer place to stay. Breakfast had lots of choices. The spa tub was great after a long very hot day.

Thymus Residence is a unique and charming hotel. The hostess met us with a warm welcome and the hotel was exactly as we imagined - a charming, high end, cave experience. In the heart of the Sassi and close walking distance to one-of-a-kind sites. The rooms were very nice, the food delicious. I would definitely stay again!!

Amazing experience. The location was easy to get to with the internal bus shuttle from the car park outside the ZTL zone. The cave experience was amazing.

The staff went over and above to ensure we were comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and the assortment was amazing!

Thymus Residence is just such a different place to stay with breakfast taken just next door to our accommodation in a former medieval church. So many interesting features in the immediate area. We chose a cava suite at Thymus for 3 nights. Simply had to have one of the former cave rooms if you’re going to Matera! Such a different experience to staying in a regular room. But while still visibly a cave architecturally, it had every convenience to a high standard. Absolutely amazing.

Beautiful. Well designed, well appointed, the staff was lovely. Our room had a steam sauna, which was a nice treat after an unusually cold and windy March day.

Great (modernized) cave stay in Matera.

Loved the hotel. Very caring and helpful managers and staff. Beautiful room, well equipped. Modern within the cave setting. Great breakfast- Matera has the best bread (and the light ricotta with fig syrup - amazing). Convenient location to everything (but note- parking is outside the old city for all hotels and a bit of a challenge to find).

I loved Matera! And their people and the staff at Thymus and the room clean, quiet, cozy! And the delicious diverse breakfast! Matera is now my favorite destination ever!

Unique stay in a cave suit, perfectly decorated with the bonus of a hot tub. The staff were very welcoming and knowledgeable and we were even given a gift when we checked out.

The resort Thymus is exceptionally unique. Gorgeous rooms in the Matera sassi grotte. Perfectly restored with all amenities. A unique experience. Rooms are spacious, have jacuzzi in a private grotta, super clean, tastefully furnished in authentic style. The staff is beyond friendly and welcoming. An absolute treasure

The people at this place are sooo lovely and sooo helpful. The cave room was well appointed although bed squeaks when moving in it. The people made this place a lovely cave to stay at. Can not recommend them more.

What an unbelievable hotel with the most exceptional hostess! Apart from the pain of not being able to park, this stay was an absolute highlight. The beauty and Magrath of Matera is matched beautifully by this hotel. We were lucky enough to stay in the suite with its own personal grotto pool and spa …. Unbelievable! Stay here if you get the chance

Gorgeous room. Wonderful staff and hospitality.

The hotel room was inside a cave. Completely renovated, clean and very memorable! The Thymus is conveniently located. Walking distance to all of the sites and restaurants. The Sassi is a vey interesting and unique place. The hotel staff helped us with arrangements and reservations for a tour and restaurants.

The managers were very accommodating and sweet. The property is beautiful, clean, and very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious with many options. The whole area is very safe and absolutely gorgeous.

Our room, which had a private pool, was beyond amazing. To stay in the Sassi area is a must if visiting Matera. And the staff at Thymus are so gracious and ready to help with anything.

Absolutely unique. Quietest room ever. Spotless. Good breakfast. Friendly staff. Nice touch with free bottle of wine. Slightly awkward access as is off the road a bit and parking is off site but free. Would stay again.

Perfect location , unique place to stay

We had an exceptional stay from start to finish !!! Such a unique place to stay we loved everything about it. The receptionist who checked us in Bora, was very welcoming, informative and helpful even though she'd only been working there for 4 days. The room was fabulous, cosy and warm after a long day out in the cold and pouring rain , perfect to come back to where we ordered takeaway pizza to have with the complimentary bottle of wine we'd been left as a gift.The next morning we all enjoyed our breakfast and our hosts were very hospitable. We would highly recommend staying here 100%

Thymus is an excellent option in Matera. GUIDO is an excellent host. Breakfast is excellent. And premises a dream. We will never forget our stay in Matera. Highly recommended!

Great stay in Matera

Fantastic property, great location in Matera. We had two rooms, upgrading to the spa suite for one night. Both rooms were fabulous, but definitely worth the upgrade for the private spa. Breakfast was plentiful and the service was perfect from start to finish, thoughtful and personable.

The staff is amazing. They made sure our stay was perfect. I would stay here again

This hotel is fantastic, without a doubt would stay there again. Location is obviously great, at Sasso Barisano, very easy to arrive, the property is super nice, the design of the room is awesome, the staff is really really nice and the breakfast delicious. A short walking distance there are restaurants, which all of them are incredible. Amazing experience staying at Thymus, highly recommendable.

Nice staff, especially at the reception. Very good location, they gave as a present, a very good wine: primitivo grape. It was a good surprise for us to taste that grape. Highly recomended

Professional, warm hopstiality, beautiful place

Our stay at Thymus was excellent. We enjoyed the perfect combination between professional management of the nice facility in the beautiful Matera and the warm hospitality that is typical of southern Italy.

Cave room was amazing. All features you would want. One of the best I’ve stayed in and I’ve stayed in literally thousands. Manuela who was on the front desk organized paid parking off-site, dinner and a tour, and mapped out a walk. Very attentive. Perfect English too.

Our stay at the Thymus Residence nei Sassi was a wonderful, unique experience that we will always remember. This conversion of a Sassi cave into a hotel room is design at its best. It was totally outfitted with every modern amenity, yet you felt enveloped in the past. The view out the door was fantastic! We loved the lication, the staff, and the breakfast! Totally recommend for a one-of-a-kind experience!

True Gem in Matera!

Thymus is a true gem! Annalisa and Imperia have been the most gracious hosts, and we were sad to leave. Their breakfast was plentiful and delicious, and they gifted us their special bread from Matera when we checked out. The room itself is unbelievable, built into the sassi and very spacious. Thank you Thymus for the memorable experience!

The room is nearly 500 st ft.very spacious, decorated with very rustic looking furniture tastefully arranged. I liked it and will come back again. It seems claustrofobic at initial look but they have a system of flowing air through a dehumidifier.

Luxury cave stay

This is an experience worth trying. The room is located in a great area, close to all the sites, dining, and bars. The breakfast was more than expected. It was truly a great experience. Cannot recommend this enough.

The property is located unique. The reception and the breakfast room are inside an old cave church and our room was a completely independent "sasso", clean, full of comforts and amenities. The staff is amazing, super welcoming, kind and helpful. Our second day we asked for a breakfast to go since we were planning to leave earlier for a tour and they gave us a bag full of food and drinks, sweet and salty, enough for a group of people that we used also for lunch. Also the buffet breakfast was very rich and the food homemade. The location is just perfect close to everything. I can only recommend this bed&breakfast.

INCREDIBLE!!!!!!

Matera is a hidden jewel of a town with a very chequered history. This hotel is built into rhe side of a valley and its AMAZING. The staff the room....oh the room... the breakfast...oh the room... the many many extra touches...oh the room... Barbara and her staff made this a truly magical stay we will never forget. We were only there a couple of days but we all got a bit emotional on leaving. We stayed in the junior deluxe suite.... INCREDIBLE!!!!

Perfect Location in a Very Magical Place!

This was THE standout part of our 3 week vacation. Matera is like no other place. I loved it! And, our "cave" hotel was perfect! HUGE and in a perfect location, right in the heart of the Sassi. Good restaurants close by. Great breakfast and amazing staff. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I would only stay here if I ever get a chance to go back.

Great place to stay in Matera. The owners we extremely welcoming and helpful. Could not have asked for a better place to stay. A 5 to 7 minute walk to main shopping and restaurants. Will definitely stay there should I come back to this very wonderful city.

Staying at the Thymus Residence was truly a unique and unforgettable experience. It was above my expectations in every way. We were greeted by Michela, the receptionist who offered us a beverage upon our arrival, she was very helpful in providing us information about things to see and providing a map of the area. Our room, which was in a cave, had all the amenities you could ask for in a hotel: Large, Comfortable bed, modern bathroom with wonderful toiletries and air conditioning, the breakfast was delightful with a wonderful selection of breakfast items..Matera is an amazing city and should not be missed .

This was one of the most unique hotels we have stayed! We stayed three nights. The staff were so friendly and accommodating making sure everything was taken care of during our visit. Pierre was exceptional! He called to set up dinner reservations, car service, and gave great recommendations for what to see and do. Matera is a place to visit! It is a relaxing, off the beaten path place with wonderful food and wine. Night time is beautiful with the lights.

Highly recommend this gorgeous hotel. The cave fitout is amazing, service exceptional and breakfast incredibly generous with the choice of food. Can’t gind any fault!

Delightful - shame it was on!y for one night!:

The entire experience was great. Great hospitality, superb cave bedroom, excellent breakfast selection, complimentary bottle of local wine, even a good restaurant right next door (unrelated to the hotel). No car parking at all but for €15 a valet service picks up the car, parks it away from the restricted zone and brings it back at 15 minutes' notice. Highly recommended.

Excellent little hotel with good location. We appreciated shuttle service provided by nearby private parking garage (recommended by the hotel also). Our cave was perfect for sleeping, no outside noise at all. The bed was a bit too hard for us, though. Several restaurants in very short walking distance.
