Loved the location, close to the Underground/Tube.
Small hotel
Hotel was well located. Well maintained and staff friendly Room was clean. Breakfast included. It was ok but served in basement so room was very warm
Terrible room
Not worth the money. Room was very tired and run down, bed uncomfortable. Needs some investment and tidying up.
Double bed just 2 singles poorly put together. Decoration appalling. Scruffy place. Did not bother with breakfast as place decreased my appetite.
It was good for what we need. The staff polite, mostly helpful, Disappointing breakfast but adequate Bed comfortable All we needed for a one night stay
Convenient stopover hotel.
Nice place at a good price for central London. Comfortable bed, within a rather dated room - but nothing to adversely affect the stay.
Location was excellent but overall it was less than advertised. It is tired and in need of even a minor makeover. Carpets are old and stained and needs painting to bring it up to standards. Room cleaning staff was great.
Great location; very good breakfast; helpful staff; larger than typical/expected room - given the central location.
Small cute Regency era converted house on border of Mayfair and Marylebone. Walkable to Marble Arch. Small breakfast room buffet and hot options. Nice lounge no bar but nice pub a few doors away. New Quebec Street round the corner, and Nobu Hotel worth visiting. Don’t expect large chain hotel. Great value
Small cute Regency House. Breakfast room, lounge. There isn’t a bar but few yards from pub on the corner and can recommend New Quebec Street round the corner. Twin room, which are get harder to find in London. It’s a converted house so don’t expect large chain accommodation. It’s located edge of Mayfair and Marylebone and walking distance to Marble Arch.
Sumner Place
Excellent location. Breakfast staff very friendly and efficient.
Street noise was disturbing during sleeping hours; breakfast room was intolerably warm. Otherwise we loved the walking distance to Oxford St, dining establishments, palace, parks, & theatre district (for those more ambitious walkers). Rooms are clean & big; bathrooms well stocked. Staff are polite & helpful.
Ideal central location for west end
Convenient location, spacious rooms. Interiors and linens could use some updating.
Good for a noght
A bed. Nothing special. Not far from transportation.
The room was spacious and comfy, and cleaned daily. Location of the hotel is just walking distance from shopping areas and close also to bus stops for further destinations.
The bathroom wasn’t very clean and smelled like mold. Housekeeping wouldn’t come until very late in the day. I checked out a few days ago and they still haven’t charged me and the staff isn’t very helpful trying to figure out why. The location was nice and the room was big.
Some of the rooms were smelly, had leaks. It was very noisy- construction. And I had a piece of jewelry stolen from my suitcase.
Owners are spot on but the room needs attention
Great location
Amazing customer service, couldn’t fault it. The person on reception was so welcoming, personable and helpful as was the person in the breakfast bar. There were areas of our room that could have done with a small amount of paint to freshen it up and there was a strange drain smell occasionally in the bathroom however the room and bathroom were clean and the bed was comfy. They also had a beautiful lounge room which we used after coming back from a gig in Hyde Park. The location is perfect for Hyde Park, Oxford Street and walkable from London Paddington (20 minutes). All in all an enjoyable stay. Would stay again just for the location and customer service.
Great neighborhood pub and breakfast place around the corner
Excellent location and extremely friendly and helpful staff.
The Sumner didn’t make a great first impression - the reception area is cramped. And there were a couple problems in our room (the only outlet in the bathroom didn’t work, the WiFi was a bit sporadic, and the shower hose leaked). But the bed was soooo comfortable, the water pressure and temperature were great, the breakfast was fantastic (so many choices, hot and cold, and attentive service), and the location was perfect, very close to several things we wanted to do or see in London, and very close to public transportation of all sorts. Overall we give it a 9!
Staff were excellent & very obliging. The stairs were a real problem - they had a lift but you then had to carry your luggage up or down stairs to get to your room, which made it very difficult. Very squeaky floors throughout building
Was easy walk to many amenities. Nice and spacious.
It's a small boutique hotel with only 8 rooms. It is a very old building, typical for the area, and located in a very good and convenient location. Nice neighborhood, safe, walkable and close to attractions and transportation. The elevator was fixed and in working condition. The room was big and comfortable; the bathroom was small. Breakfast was included and good. It's a small boutique hotel with only 8 rooms.
Excellent stay and close to the pub
Lovely excellent location
Lovely stay in an excellent location, Hyde park within 1 minute walking and underground to anywhere
The property is in a great neighborhood, the staff is friendly and offer a good service, The elevator does not work, and it seems they have no intention on fixing it, so consider carrying your luggage many stairs up and down. I really consider that the property needs an important reformation. The rooms are tiny and need a change in furniture and carpeting.
Comfortable homely setting. Lovely staff.
The hotel is quite close to Marble Arch underground in a nice area. They upgraded our room and gave us free breakfast since we had a 4th floor walk up. The staff were friendly.
Mini break
A great location for our short stay. Close to great coffee shops and artisan bakery
the place was freezing. The radiator would emit smell when turned on. The staff couldn't solve the problem. The Chair was soiled and worn out. Definetely not a 4 star feeling.
Great !
Host was beyond friendly and welcoming ! Me and my boyfriend came for a weekend away and we would deffo come back ! We loved it
Had a lovely stay staff could not do enough to help very friendly, property just a couple mins walk from Marble Arch and tube nice area
They told my room was on the 3rd floor but both lifts were broken, and will not be fixed during my stay. Managed to get a room in the basement. No lift, television didn’t work, when I told them about the TV, the answer was, “We know” rooms were like a b&b not a hotel
Location, location, location
Decent but unremarkable town house hotel. Nice lounge area. Brlliant location
Yuck
Pokey hotel. Lift doesn’t work. Booked a shower\tub combination but got a shower without a tub. Carpets in the room were filthy. Bathroom stunk like an open sewer.
Not perfect but deserving of 5 Stars for the staff, the Georgian charm, and the location. The staff was very accommodating and helpful. The lift wasn’t working (apparently hasn’t been working for a while) but our bags were carried up for us. We needed a cab a couple of times and asked the desk manager to arrange it and it was there right on time. Nice coffee shop around the corner. Marble Arch bus stop 4 minute walk away. When we return to London it will be the Sumner again!
Sadly the lift was broke and I was at the top of the building, but the staff were a great help. There was an issue with the heating in the room, but the staff tried their best to heat up the room, it wasn’t as warm as I’d of liked and was very noisy.
This was our third time staying at the Sumner. The elevator was out of order the whole time we were there. I hope they get it fixed. The room was very comfortable and clean. I really like the quiet neighborhood and proximity to the tube.
No hot water in the morning! Lift was not working! Staff were lovely human beings though!
A lovely boutique hotel. Staff outstanding. Room excellent. Good value. A hidden gem.
The staff is very jelpful. However there are many areas thst rewuire attention. The lift was not working for the 5 dsys of my dtsy. The vurtains were torn and stained. The moldings were damsged and needed re-painting. At this price point it was mot a hood value.
Good location and in principle it was not a bad room. But, the room had a very strong smell of cigarettes. At night someone was banging on the doors. Also, the table lamps near the bed did not work.
staff were very friendly and helpful
Unresponsive management
The hotel is well situated and easy to get to via tube. When we arrived we were told that the lift was not working and had not been working for a while. We were placed on the 2nd floor - which in London meant we had 4 sets of stairs to climb. We asked why we had not been informed and there was no response. We indicated that this was a real inconvenience and were told to email the hotel management and that there is no manager on site. We requested some kind of discount for this inconvenience, and were again told to email. We did email twice - and though we stayed for 3 nights and its been 5 days since we have returned home, we have not heard anything back from the hotel management. Very disappointed at this. There was also a 1 inch height difference between the bedroom and the bathroom. Though there was a sign next to the door, at night we kept tripping over it. The bathroom is quite small and it is difficult to open the shower door if the bathroom door is open. Overall we were not happy with the service and ver surprised at how unresponsive this hotel was to our concerns.
Great hotel & Ideal location, staff very friendly
Pathetic place to stay
The Staff was friendly and very helpful. Both elevators weren’t working we had to go up and down 4 flights of stairs, the bathrooms floor was cracked and the radiator was leaking. The furniture in this Real Tiny room was so cheap I was afraid to touch it. The breakfast was pathetic and really gross don’t even bother going. It is located in this claustrophobic basement . My honest advice is to AVOID STAYING THERE.
Almost no reminders about check-in except for a hidden one by Expedia. I booked this room back in April. Typically hotels reach out in advance, nothing from this hotel. Therefore, I was unable to cancel in an appropriate amount of time as I already had other accommodations. I realize that’s on me, but as someone who stays in hotels frequently, both brand names and boutiques, I found this to be incredibly disappointing.
Nice, boutique hotel in a nice part of London. The rooms were spacious and very nice for being in the middle of the city. Staff seemed a little confused by things, but that could have just been an off day.
Excellent location...once we found it. Had to ask directions from the Pub 2 doors down. The rest of the stay had serious flaws. Elevator was broken for entire stay. our rooms were on the 3rd and 4th floor. Shower door would not close and the rooms were very small.
It was a very good experience
Great find would stay again
Everything was clean, the room was huge, usb chasing sockets, free bottles of water all great things to have. Downsides were, TV reception was awful, maybe get a signal boaster, the electrical wires need a good tidy up and one curtain did not work. All minor items but the reason it was very good a few changes and it would have been excellent.
Unique very cute hotel in nice neighborhood with plenty of restaurants and close to metro
Friendly positive service
Disappointing
Disappointing stay. Hotel is lovely, fabulous position for Hyde Park, staff polite and friendly. However, we were greeted with the news that the lift was out of order (we were on the third floor), then when we got to our room on a hot July day, the air conditioning was also out of order - and a temporary portable unit, very noisy, was in situ instead. Which would have been fine, save that it was leaking and we had a sodden carpet. Further, the TV was not tuned in and no channels were available. On reporting these things, they simply said room 206, oh, yes. We did not get what we had paid for!
One nights stay
We stayed for one night at The Sumner. Excellent location. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room a great size, very clean and comfortable. And air con was a huge bonus!!
A great weekend or extended stay Boutique Hotel on the Fringe of Mayfair. The staff are wonderful and accommodating 😊😊 The rooms are large for London and the location excellent for shopping Oxford street and Metro stations.. I would stay there again!
No working elevator and too many stairs. No working air conditioner during heat wave.
The elevator was broken - 5 days later they had not fixed it and no sense of urgency to do so! On our check in we were put on the 4th floor!! I told them to move us the next day - they did. Breakfast was awful - coffee undrinkable and food was cold. Asked for an iron - it was broken and left a red stain on my white blouse and the ironing board didn't open. Guests left struggling to get up the stairs with luggage. Location is good - staff indifferent wouldn't recommend this hotel.
The staff were very kind. The lift was out of order, but the staff carried our luggage to our room which was nice. The furnishings were a little run down, but it was clean. All in all we were pleased with our stay.
Location
Great location. Yet elevator wasn’t working! And for the Hotel rate I would’ve expected a gesture of a free breakfast at least given they put us on top floor.
The elevator and AC weren’t working. I can’t speak for the management’s handling of fixing the elevator in a timely manner, but I got the impression the AC hadn’t been working for a while, so I was upset the management’s neglect impacted my night’s sleep. Overall this property does not feel like a 4* in any shape or form.
At this price point there are better choices. The hotel has not seen any refurbishment for at least 15 years and is ok but probably a bit over priced for its quality. There is nice friendly staff but that doesn't make up for the tiredness of the hotel rooms.
great location Mogi was incredibly nice, knowledgeable and attentive. very easy to walk to parks, restaurants, local launderette, public transportation. Quiet street and perfect service and room.
Another great stay at The Sumner.
Wonderfully friendly and accommodating staff who went out of their way to help and make our stay a lovely experience.
The first line in the property description reads "4 star Bed and Breakfast". When we went down in the morning, an exasperated concierge told us "breakfast is not offered", like we should know that and he was not understanding why he was having to inform everyone of that. We were on the 6th floor and the elevator was broken. We closed one the curtains and they pulled off the rail. No one fixed it during our stay. Even when closed the curtains did nothing to darken the room. The television was not working and we could only use our own Netflix account. The beds were sad, with lumpy pillows and the comforters so short you had to decide whether to keep you shoulders or feet warm. The only redemption of this stay was it's cute, and the staff is friendly. How is this 4-star and how do they justify this price?
Being put in basement under the hall/reception with clumping feet was not a great start. Room also next to the breakfast room for more sounds off. Needs a refurb. Cracked tiles in bathroom, TV buffering: a lick of paint would help. Otheerwise basics fine - great location, quiet demeanour, Roses chocs at reception
A convenient location in a pleasant part of town. Easy walk to shops and transport links. Staff were helpful. The mattress has seen some action and could do with be replaced. Also, there is no breakfast on offer at the moment. You have to go elsewhere for that. I would be happy to stay there again.
This property was conveniently located and the room was decent. It could have been cleaner. It also had a hostel vibe with lots of stickers near the bathroom area wall. I did not have a great service experience, however.
The Sumner is, in reality, a 3, not a 4 Star property & is over-priced. The hotel was cute enough but, they knocked on my door at 9am and then called insensately pre-check out. I thought it was just me -- then I heard other guests literally complaining about same thing. My shower didn’t even drain! But you know what, I didn’t want to complain looked like a family run operation and I hope my money helps them.
Excellent location! Very friendly staff
It’s very quaint and there were a lot of places to eat around there.
Perfect for a short stay, well appointed and cared for. Shows its ages but that's part of the attraction. Escalator not working so we had a steep climb to bed!.
Check in was a bit fussy. Lift not working. And a noisey cicstern/pipes in our room.(all night). For the price would have expected better, but otherwise OK.
A pleasant stay .
On first impressions as you walk in , the hotel looks cared for and inviting, however the breakfast room was filled with stock and furniture piled up in one corner. I can only assume it was’nt being used or they were offering breakfast elsewhere. We had not booked for breakfast. Tea and coffee facilities in the room were a little on the skimpish side , literally 2 satchets of coffee and 1 pack of biscuits. My partner found the bed uncomfortable, i think it was just an old mattress with not much spring left in it. The staff we met were polite and curteous.
A very good value hotel for this area.Well located close to Marble Arch but away from the busiest roads, with plenty of good restaurants within a short walk and the whole of London easily accessible by tube or bus. I had a downstairs room which was quiet, comfortable and surprisingly large by London standards. The only let-down was that the air-conditioner / heater was not working well and wouldn't warm up, so I left that off.
Pros-Great location for transportation. Marble Arch was an easy walk. Great coffee shops and restaurants nearby. Laundromat just around the corner for longer stays. Cons-Even though the website shows a breakfast room and food selection, no breakfast was available for the 4 days that I stayed there. Chose this hotel because they offered breakfast. Bathroom shower had some mold issues.
very nice small hotel great loaction
Excellent location, fine staff, clean room but lots of little things need attention or fixing in the room. (I left them a list.)
The property was disappointing. The room was old and floor slanted. Mattress and bed therefore was slanted as well. Uncomfortable. For heating needs additional had portable heating. Heated towel rack broken, safe broken, curtains did not close all the way. No breakfast which is pictured on all the websites! Seemed like new owners and staff could not offer any suggestions as if they didn’t even live there . Unfortunately would not stay there again. Was a 5 minute walk to marble arch which was the only plus for me.
Arrived very early from our international flight and was feeling tired from travel. Staff was extremely nice and allowed us to check in super early so we could settle in and unpack. Very much appreciated!
The history of the building historical feel
Staff not very friendly
Boutique & spacious.
Room was nice. Few odds and ends to be updated. Bathroom / shower was amazing. Location is great as Marble Arch is a major station for transit. And Oxford is like the Times Square / Broadway of the area. Overall a wonderful stay and would go back.
Average stay
Property was clean but starting to appear run down Bathroom tile cracked carpet needs cleaning Could not open bathroom door because hit bef
Always a delight to stay here; convenient for the main shopping areas and work in my case. Very clean and comfortable with wonderful staff. So friendly and helpful.
방은 넓은 편이나 방음이 전혀 안되어서 주변 방에서 말하는 소리가 다 들린다. 런던을 돌아보기에 위치는 괜찮았음
Terrible stay I had to use steps with big suitcase to reach my room, very poor room no amenities except boiler and I had to call the reception for mug. The big issue was a MOUSE running in the room I called the receptionist at night and he wasn’t surprised at all and he changed my room to one in the basement (ugly) next day the same guy is keeping on knocking my door at 11:00 am for check out by saying I should read the reservation conditions to know that the check out time is 11:00 am, he needs to know that I am a guest in a hotel with mouses in the rooms not an employee working for him. Terrible stay…..never again
Friendly staff, clean
Friendly and accessible, room was good size! Fridge was a joke, but room cleaned and serviced well. Thankyou it was very pleasant!
Good location Marble Arch. A little shabby in areas. Room was huge for London but a tiny bathroom.
The place was nice but it was advertised as an option for two twin beds which I requested ahead of time but when I got there it was one bed. Very frustrating and I had to get another room
The staff was very nice and helpful. I had a cozy room that had plenty of space and excellent AC! The location is also great.
My room was absolutely filthy with thick dust and down in the basement.
Comfortable and good value
Super location, a stones throw from Marble Arch and Oxford Street. Nice bars and restaurants nearby. Lovely welcome from the staff. The room was large and comfortable. The bathroom was a little 'tired' and could have done with some decorating, but was clean and functional. We didn't have breakfast or use the communal rooms. This isn't luxury, but it is clean, comfortable and welcoming.
Deeply unsatisfied and out of pocket
This hotel charged my card for the cost of the room even though I paid in full through hotels.com and didn't tell me. I only noticed when I checked my credit card statement. I have contacted them and they say hotels.com "have not released the money to them" and refused to refund me. I tried to request a refund through hotels.com but there was no option since the booking was showing as complete. I have tried to contact hotels.com to raise a complaint but there doesn't seem to be any mechanism to actually do that. I am still out of pocket £155 pounds and I have not idea what to do next to get a refund??? The reason I use hotels.com is to stream line my booking experience and to make my life easier. I will not use them again if this is not resolved.
Clean and great location for the price
