Great area, easy access to most tourist destinations. The hotel also has free bike rentals which is great for exploring the city. The only complaint is that the public bath is stagnant so the water is not filtered constantly which seemed odd compare to other hotels we have stayed at
Very recommended
Great location, very clean and spacious. Will come back. Onsen in the hotel is a very good facility, very clean too.
great location. Kanazawa is small, so this shouldn't be a problem. Hotel room has fresh paint color, looks good and new. receipt is ok, but not as good as other Japanese hotels.
Hotel was average. The location was convenient.
Near castle and park.
I found the breakfast options limited. When in Japan I want a Japanese breakfast with rice, natto, steamed vegetables. The salad I had was okay but as a vegan, most of the menu wasn’t appropriate for me. A Japanese menu offers foods good for many diets.
There was no coffee or tea in the room, even as simple as instant coffee or tea bags. It was a bit sad because this is usually considered a basic service provided by all hotels in Japan. For the rest, service was decent, no complain.
Great hotel
Unfortunately trend is to let machines welcome and check out. I prefer huma interaction. For example while checking out I requested a taxi to the train station. Desk clerk called taxi and driver came into lobby to pick us up. Very good customer service for less thsn a 5 star hotel.
This is a great hotel - great facilities; lovely onsen; comfortable clean room and beds; wonderful location and friendly, helpful staff.
Great hotel for family of 5. We booked one room but ended up getting another room to spread out as it was only AUD$70. We stayed 2 nights in Kanazawa. Hotel was in a perfect location for us. Close to Omicho market. Bus stop for Kanazawa loop bus was close to hotel. 15 min walk from station or 10 yen by taxi.
One major issue is the rooms is that they are absolutely tiny. I am only 5ft10 and average build and I could basically touch both sides of the room at the same time. You will definitely be living out of a suitcase here as there is no opportunity to take clothes and put them anywhere. We had an upgraded room as well so I am unsure what the baseline is. Staff were nice and downstairs looks nice, you can get a nice breakfast next door in the cafe for 1/4 the price of the hotel as well. The windows have stand off blinds on, so the moment the sun rises you can bet you’ll be woken up, got to love 4:30-5am wake up on holiday………haha. Beds are wild, they are as thin and solid as the hardwood floor, pillows are soft though. All in all, place was OK for two nights and we were glad to be going to another hotel to finally get a good night of rest.
Best hotel in Kanazawa! So beautifully designed! Our room is ideal, and spacious esp for Japan. Nice kimonos they provide, public bath, and sauna, I love the modern and quiet lobby. Love all the thoughtful details.
Nice hotel loved our room it was huge staff was amazing
Highly recommended
Overall a good stay. Beds are quite firm. The staff were very helpful if you needed them. Check in is digital. Riht next door to the market's and across the road from the right loop bus station. Left loop is quicker if coming from the station but only ran at the weekend
Nice hotel, good size room. Comfortable beds
Newer facility with bath house. Convenient location. Walkable to train station
Amazing hotel and for sure a good price. Would never get something this good for so cheap in America
This hotel is in a great location and so easy to get around to all the main attractions . The staff were so helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. The hotel was very clean and I would highly recommend if staying in Kanazawa
We liked this property. The location was central and within walking distance to everything we wanted to see. There is a great coffee shop next door which is lucky because you can't get coffee at the hotel (even if you want to pay for it) unless you purchased the breakfast option. We also liked the Onsen.
Modern hotel in the middle of all the main attractions.
Room doesn’t have phone, iron, or iron board. When requested for iron, you will need to go down to the front desk to pick it up yourself for a steamer. Absolutely no customer service provided when needed. Greatly disappointed in their service
Great location, 20 minutes walk from the train station and major attractions. Room is clean with modern design. Love it.
Staff was not friendly during our check out but very nice during our check in (different staff). Size of Family room is quite average for 3Adults, 1 young adult and 1child, we couldn't open wide for our baggage, have to squeeze, but is ok. Washing machine and dryer has to be queue up for long and take turn many time since they only provide 3units only the highest floor and some more the dryer is not functioning well. The balcony area at the highest floor is relaxing. We might stay here during our next trip.
Japan trip
Great hotel. Perfect location within easy waking distance of the train station and all attractions. Very clean and comfortable. Spacious rooms

Great stay great people
While the room and hotel were terrific, the stars of this place are the staff. I interacted with the front desk numerous times and every time they were incredibly helpful and thoughtful
Beautiful hotel in a great location. Only stayed here one night and the whole family wished we could have stayed longer. We travel a lot and this was one of the best hotels we have stayed at.
Hotel should provide complimentary parking.
The location of the hotel is very convenient to all transport. The bed is probably the hardest I have ever experienced in a hotel. The room was however spacious & very comfortable. You need to be early for breakfast as we found that the selection is minimal & not topped up if eating later than 7.30! All else with the hotel was good.
Loved this hotel! The rooms were clean and the layout of the room was great. The space was also spacious enough to layout 2 big luggages on the floor. They even had a public onsen that we could use upstairs which was really nice to use after a long day out. The hotel is also situated right next to Omicho market, and was in walkable distance between the Kanazawa castle and Higasjichaya district.
Hotel was at a convenient location, walkable to many attractions. Facility was clean and amenities were great. I just had an issue when I used the public bath. After using the public bath and went to get my belongings in the locker, the locker was opened and my stuff were gone. One of the guests accidentally opened my locker with her key and have taken my things. She came back apologizing to have taken my things accidentally and returned my belongings. It seemed like some of the keys can open other lockers because she was able to obtain my things while they were locked. This issue needs to be fixed because if it was not Japan, I'm pretty sure my things would not be returned.
Staff were very helpful with booking us transportation and reservations without hesitation. The rooms were very clean and spacious. The Onsen on the property was relaxing and not crowded. The free rental bikes on the property made a joyful experience for my family and I to ride along Kanazawa!
Good location, 5-10 mins walk to several popular tourist spots
Beautiful stay
The hotel is clean and quiet The room is spacious and has a nice bathroom. The area is convenient to transportation and restaurants They also have a restaurant in the hotel
Great location and facilities
Breakfast was boring
Well located hotel to all sights n value for mone.
Convenient hotel n value for money
Nice clean hotel
Nice rooms. Easy to get around the city from this location. Friendly staff.
Right next to Omicho market and easy to access with the bus.
Good choice!
Good hotel, good location! Staff is super helpful as everyone in Japan. Breakfast was good and the rooms are very new and spacious. Nice Onsen
We really enjoyed the stay at Square Hotel. A clean spacious room, excellent location next to Omi-machi Market. We love the large open bath on the top floor.
Comfortable stay in a great location near all the sights. Very hard to find a king bed in Japan but they have it!
Great location. Very clean. Very chaotic check in due to large tour group checking in.
Property very modern, separate bath and toilet in room. iPad to operate electronics in room. Onsen and gym on top floor. Next door to fish market. With walking distance of many things to do.
The staff were courteous and polite. The position is central to different shops, markets and places to visit.
Cool & clean room, great location, and good price
Efficient and friendly
We liked the cleanliness, comfortable bed, very quiet, very convenient.
Excellent hotel. Onsen is very good. compact but everything you could wish for in the room. Comfortable bed too.
One of the nicest most modern hotels we’ve ever stayed at for a single night, with exceptionally friendly and helpful staff.
Impeccably clean, very western accommodations with Japanese touch. surprised with a Nice indoor/outdoor onsen that I did not see advertised.
Modern Clean Hotel
Modern hotel in the Main Street of town. Staff were friendly and helpful and hotel was clean and comfortable. Bed was a little hard for my liking but this was in a twin room. Station about a 19 minute walk and loop buses stop 200 m away so very convieniant
Modern and unique concept. Enjoyed my stay with quick and easy check in/out
The hotel is very nice and well maintained with very good design, very modern.
The room was a great size and the design of the room was super cool. Loved all of the details including the bathroom, lamps, etc. Only issue we had was how hard the bed was. Other than that, everything was perfect.
I never leave reviews - but this hotel was amazing!!! I may have got lucky with a sale on Orbitz, but at $76/night the value was outstanding. I didn’t know it came with the spa included, so our expectations were greatly surpassed. Boyfriend thought the bed was a little too firm, but DUH, this is Japan. Highly recommend this place. Quiet, clean, and the laundry facility for only 500y was really useful.
Excellent hotel which was clean and conveniently located. We especially loved the Japanese indoor and outdoor baths on the top floor and used then each morning and evening. The gym could have used a few more machines as it was pretty bare.
the Square Kanazawa was an absolute delight place to stay with great value! What we loved most about the hotel was the great attention to detail - from the use of smart tech that allows you to control lights, aircon, tv from an ipad, to the
Very helpful staff. We were looking for a vegetarian restaurant and the concierge had helpful suggestions.
Best hotel in Kanazawa👍👍👍
I had been to,Kanazawa many times, the square hotel Kanazawa Is the best I had ever stayed at. I stayed at the grand twin room, it’s very spacious, especially the bathroom with a double sink. It would be perfect if the gym has a larger area with more equipments. I will definitely come back to this hotel next time when I visit Kanazawa.
Good location, nice breakfast. Pleasant staff though English wasn’t great when doing anything more than checking in or out. Good rooms except for the blinds letting in masses of light as soon as the sun was up - no curtains. Very clean
Staff went above and beyond to help with all questions etc. room had free phone to take out during the day/night, as well as some awesome technology to control tv/air con etc
Conveniant location and about 15 min walk to the gardens.
Nice hotel, good restaurant on the ground floor. Central location for places to see.
We have stayed in numerous hotels during our month and half stay in Japan, and Square proved to be one of the nicest. Very hip and clean design. It wasn’t perfect but the pluses far outweighed the negatives. The staff doesn’t speak much English, which continues to befuddle us as Japan is pushing for tourism, but even though the staff had little English( still admittedly more than we speak Japanese), they were very helpful and willing. Our room was the largest yet, we had a double which even had a small couch! Lots of shelf space for placing your items, even a luggage rack( the first). Beds were comfy and quite big twins. The toilet was separated from the bath, and the sink was out in the room. Very convenient. The negatives, hot water kettle but no coffee, window looked out on the busy street and opposite building so curtains needed to stay closed. Really hardly negatives.
Good location business hotel and designer touch. Can purchase bus day pass from reception if you stay here. Comes with bath house facility and gym. The only downside is only one small bin in room and not available in toilet, no complimentary tea and coffee in room.
The hotel was really new and in the very great location. It was literally two minutes from the local fish and vegetable market! I especially liked the public bathing rooms and the spacious rooms. There was even a gym (ok...justvine treadmill, one bike station and a yoga ball, but still it is hard to find in Japan). One downside was that the staff's english capability was not proficient, and it took us some time to communicate. Otherwise this hotel is a 10!
The location is in the center of town close to the fish market, the castle and the beautiful garden. The room is standard Japanese hotel room, which is small. You can only open one suitcase in it. All the same, the room is very pleasant. The best part is the breakfast. It is one big buffet of healthy and delicious food: vegetables, fruit, soup, Japanese dishes, cereals, breads,....
Brand new and very clean.
Brand new place, Interesting design. Recommend you include the breakfast in your room price - the breakfast is wonderful. Had a great view from an upper floor. The Onsen was very nice. Had a little bit of noise in the room
Situated next to the city's major market and within walking distance of the castle and garden (20 mins) and samurai area, the hotel provides a good base for getting to the major sites. It's a major bus interchange too for those who don't want to walk or take the tourist bus. This is a new hotel which provides a free mobile device which internet access to help you get around or stay in touch. We had 3 twin rooms booked on a run of the house basis which were spacious and included a small seating area that enabled our group of 4 to take breakfast (purchased from the local convenience store) together in the room. They were happy to store our luggage for the day. A lovely hotel.
Liked room, hotel location, staff. First time staying at a smart-hotel.
Really loved this quirky hotel. The staff were friendly and very helpful, great check in service and had our room ready early. The room we compact but well designed and had great attention to detail to make our stay comfortable. The hotel is linked with a fabulous cafe which served all variety of drinks with breakfast and lunch menu. It also offered tapas which were delicious. The hotel is in a great location for main attractions such as the castle and Kokoen gardens which are approx 15 min walk and the Omicho fish market which is 5 min walk. It is on the route for the loop buses which take you all around Kanazawa including the train station which is handy.
hot room
room was too hot. staff came up to adjust air conditioner, but it got hotter. he didn't understand. we had to crack open the windows to let the cool air in.
Great location with Airport limo bus stopping outside, and the market ( where we have breakfast everyday) 2 mins walk!! Clean and new rooms with a hot bath (normal hot water) good enough for a daily soak after long day out. Big beds for double rooms !
A good central hotel in Kanazawa
Good hotel about a 15min walk from kenroku-en, with a nice (Japanese) bath on the top floor.
Nice restaurant just at the lobby! Perfect for rest and comfort food! Delicious!
Great New Hotel that is well priced
Excellent new hotel close to station and main tourist attractions.
Loved this place!
This hotel was amazing! It was just a minute or two walk to the Omicho market and walking distance to everything we did in Kanazawa. The room was spacious and had a huge bathroom counter which is tough to find in Japan. Would stay here again!
Great choice
Excellent hotel: cleanliness, condition, service, location, breakfast all very nice!
Enjoyable stay in Kanazawa
Well located in the center of Kanazawa. Brand new hotel with a parking lot at the back (for a fee, but cheaper if you stay at the hotel). Nice and clean room.
We stayed (4 people including 2 young adult kids) in The Square Hotel in the couple of days up to and including New Year. We found everything to be very modern (including the computerized check-in process which did cause a little confusion), spotlessly clean and comfortable. The staff were efficient, polite and friendly. It is very conveniently located - about 15 minutes walk from the station, about 750 yen by taxi, only 5 minutes walk to the main market and about 10 minutes to the Castle. It is also on the tourist bus route that encircles the city (well worth buying a ticket for a day). Across the road is one of the very large shopping malls. The room had 2 double beds and a sofa bed, which we found adequate for all of us. There was space on the floor for all our luggage (3 suitcases - winter !), however, there wasn't a lot of "hanging" space for jackets, clothes etc. Small bottles of water were provided and there was a kettle with tea bags/coffee. The bathroom was quite spacious with (in a separate room) a shower and tub, and in another separate room a toilet. However, if you wanted a toothbrush, razor etc you had to take them from the front desk. Not a real hassle, and probably a sensible way of reducing wastage by the guests. No meals were provided as there is a cafe/restaurant as part of the hotel on the ground floor, although we never actually used it during our stay. Overall, I would recommend the Square Hotel for a few days stay in Kanazawa.
Wonderful new hotel in Kanazawa.
The location is perfect, stone throw away from the Omicho Market. If travelling by JR pass, there's even a JR bus that stops at the market, making it super convenient to get to the hotel after arriving at Kanazawa Station. The hotel is very new, clean and I love the style. The public bath is not large, might be crowded on weekends, but it was fine when I was there on a weekday. The shower is in room is great too if you don't want to use the public bath. Breakfast was very good too. Love this hotel.
Perfect
Fantastic new hotel. Small touches made it so pleasant for a western travelling family - great front desk staff. Friendly, informative and professional - particularly one young Italian guy. He is a huge asset to the hotel.
New hotel. Clean and well endowed with switch socket outlets for charging the many phones.
5/5 I recommend
The overall stay at The Square hotel was great. It is very conveniently located to get to many things by walking or a very short cab ride, I preferred to walk. There is a great local market basically right next door. There is also a very cool Temple only a few blocks away, and you are in very close walking distance to the Kanazawa Castle grounds as well as Kenroku-en. The Hotel itself was very nice as well, very clean, and appeared to be quite new. I took some time one evening to relax in the public sauna, it was very nice and very relaxing. I speak little Japanese but the staff at reception were very helpful and we were able to communicate very easily.
とても綺麗だし、ホテルの方も親切でした。
近江町市場に近く、兼六園、金沢城公園等に歩いて行けるので、大変便利でした。
外国の方がとても多いホテルでしたが、清潔でフロントの方々もとても良い対応でした。
Nothing special

Loved the location. Enjoyed the public bath every night. Hopefully they have since fixed the broke washing machine. Too bad they didn't have a large laundry room.
