Really high quality motel & staff .

Sherrie was so welcoming !!! The motel is immaculately clean, bright and modern , with a fantastically equipped kitchen area , dishwasher with the dishwasher soap supplied, and access to washing machines and dryers on the ground floor. The bathroom was large with fluffy towels & lovely soar, conditioner and shampoo. The nespresso coffee machine had plenty of pods and fresh milk was waiting in the fridge . Our room was downstairs, so had a little patio area with chairs , and space to put a drying rack ( from the laundry) outside. Iron and ironing board and a safe were supplied along with bathrobes and crisp white sheets . Very impressed at the attention to detail, and unlike other motels we have used, even had salt and pepper mills .

We had an enjoyable 5 night stay. Our expectations were exceeded. Thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone considering a week in Nelson.

Delightful Stay at the The Sails

My husband and I had a brief but delightful stay at The Sails in Nelson. The room was clean and comfortable, with amenities including a small kitchen (featuring a sink, microwave, small stove, and dishwasher) as well as access to shared laundry facilities. The host was incredibly friendly and even offered to help transfer our laundry while we were out hiking in Abel Tasman National Park. The location is excellent, just a short walk to downtown.

Very nice room with comfortable bed as promised by our host. Walking distance to restuarants. Large TV with Netflix. Easy in and out location.

The only thing I dislike is the vanity which is too tiny. Everything else is good. The best I like is the generous supply of tea, coffee and milk. The tea is very delicious. Thanks the hosts.

Lovely clean and amazing staff

Quite and relaxing

I read about this luxury motel on a blog (the author raved about it), and thank goodness I did! It was modern, new, spotless, ginormous (the shower stall was the size of most bathrooms!), well-appointed, comfortable (most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in), handy to zillions of restaurants and stores, and came with a parking spot right below the room (no trudging through a huge lot). Cherie at the front desk was friendly and helpful. I would absolutely recommend The Sails and stay here again without question.

Or stay at the Sails was amazing, the room was lovely and large, the bed was incredibly comfortable and the duvet lovely. A great bathroom with a large shower. Good facilities in the kitchen area, we would highly recommend this venue in Nelson. It was very close to the town and all restaurants, supermarkets etc.

Wonderful hotel close to downtown Nelson

Absolutely incredible place to stay. The most comfiest bed my partner and I have had the pleasure of sleeping in on our many travels. Cleanliness and set out of the room was amazing

Great location, comfortable and cool vibe to the rooms. Easy walk to dining and groceries. Cherie, the manager was fantastic. Very engaging and fun, with hand delivered breakfast to our rooms, and got us a cab when we checked out. I’d give a 5.5 stars if I could 😎

Spent two nights with my wife. Staff was very nice and helpful in providing information about property and the town. We really enjoyed the restaurants and shopping in town which is walkable from the Sails. Room was modern and comfortable. Very nice shower in the bathroom.

This is an amazing property. The rooms are beautifully decorated, comfortable beds, and have everything you need to cook if you wanted to. There are lots of great restaurants walkable with plenty of shopping and things to do. What makes this property so special is the couple that runs the property. They were amazing. They were so very helpful in telling us about the town and giving us recommendations of things to do. I highly recommend this property.

Best Motel that we stayed in during our trip from the UK to New Zealand. Centrally located in Nelson and staff friendly, helpful and extremely attentive for choice of restaurants. Only an hour away from Abel Tasman. Breakfasts served in room, on time and ham and cheese omelette was best I have ever tasted.

Well appointed accommodation

We stayed for a few days and couldn’t be happier with our accommodation at Sails. The room was full of everything we needed, even herbal teas and coffee machine - real milk each day too. It was convenient to shops and restaurants and the the owners were friendly and helpful. Highly recommend

Excellent property! Staff were so friendly, room was absolutely spotless. We especially loved the breakfast room service which was quite a treat! The massive tv was so nice to have to watch a movie in bed after a long day. Really impressed by how well stocked the kitchen was. I liked the added touch of the milk bottle in the fridge instead of the long life milk you normally find. Definitely would recommend staying here, great location and good parking.

Cherie Was absolutely wonderful and had great communications when our flight canceled and we were a day late checking in. She helped us out so much. The rooms were amongst the cleanest I’ve ever seen. They looked brand new. I would recommend this place to anyone staying in Nelson.

Very chic hotel with great amenities

Central location, super friendly and efficient

I had stayed here previously and was really happy to return. Reception staff are really helpful and efficient and rooms are very comfortable and quiet.

Very comfortable and central location

This is a great location if you're visiting Nelson. Fairly central so you can eat in or out in town. The small kitchen facility works perfectly and there is a small balcony to sit out on when the sun is shining, Beds are very comfortable and rooms quiet. I was doing the 3 day Abel Tasman walk and they stored my bags while I was trekking. Would stay again and highly recommend.

5 star hotel

A 5 star modern beautifully appointed hotel. Super well placed close to everything. Host was extremely helpful with recommendations for some lovely restaurants. We stayed in a wheelchair access room and I would highly recommend for anyone who needs an accessibility room. Highly recommend

The Sails Nelson was a great place to stay. Convenient location for exploring, close to everything, clean, comfortable, and we loved the corner spa to relax our muscles after doing some adventuring. Thank you!

Had a wonderful stay! The room was very lovely, comfortable, and clean. The woman at the front desk was friendly and helpful. And we were a 15 min walk into city center, 30 min walk to the center of NZ, and 50 min walk to the beach when we were feeling very ambitious. Would definitely stay again.

I don’t write many reviews but I felt compelled to do so about The Sails. From the moment you arrive you will feel welcomed! Check is a great experience and you are shown to your room by the lovely manager. The rooms are probably the nicest we’ve stayed in on our travels in NZ. Lovely and clean with some great personal touches. A couple of hundred metres and you are in the city centre so it’s perfectly positioned for a stay if you don’t want to cook! A first class place to stay!

Check in was a breeze. Accommodating our crazy schedule and took the time to show us how to operate all the lodging ‘stuff’. Gave us a great recommendation for dinner. Cared about our itinerary, provided great advice to make our stay on the South Island even better than expected. Will be back.

EXCELLENT - for everything!

WOW - absolute luxury from the moment we walked in the door - didn't want to leave!! What an amazing experience just looking into the room - the layout, the view, balcony, sunny disposition, the cleanliness, the size, the location to the city centre (a short 10 minute walk away). WOW!!! I could live here permanently. What else is there to say? The bathroom was beautiful, the shower was large and functional and fully walled with glass, the water pressure was perfect with a nice shower rose, lovely decor, good size kitchenette with everything you need, free parking right below us, large TV, soft carpet, cosy chairs, very friendly hosts (also Heather has great taste in clothes and Mike is very witty) AND the piece de resistance - this bed was THE most comfortable bed I have ever had the pleasure of sleeping in! Definitely didn't want to leave in the morning - OMG!! If you get the chance - stay here but for longer than a night like we did - we're coming back here, that's for sure! Thank you lovely hosts - you have created a heavenly nest for couples.
