Lovely hotel and location.
Comfortable
Excellent. Everything was tip top. Very helpful in dealing with the taxi headache and their requirement for cash.
The Residence has suffered from a lack of investment. Dining only 2 restaurants, service staff poorly trained. Maintenance needed everywhere. Only one tennis court accessible. Electricity kept tripping, disappointing. Department drive in one so bar prices and a la carte dining over priced. Buffet quality good but repetitive. A week is enough.
Such a nice place with wonderful environment and good service. The food is a big variety and all dishes are so delicious. Very clean. The shop on property is also a good place to look around, most commodities are priced reasonably. The hotel is a little far from airport but they can arrange a taxi with fair charge. Don't miss the stunning sunrise on beach!
Competitively priced, well kept, keen on providing great service and spa with well priced treatments
A beautiful hotel with spacious rooms in good location. Very nice beach and corals. Good food and buffet.
Amazing stay 100% recommended
Amazing and detailed service by the staff. Amazed how welcomed we felt, since check in, to sunbeds on the beach, to dinner, and room details. Special mention to Delphine on check in, and Boodoo the grill man at dinner, and our amazing butlers, Roshan and his colleague
Lovely staff and accommodation is exquisite
Very friendly staff. Beautiful scenery. This is a great place to stay.
East becomes West.
We did not stay at the Residence. A few days before we were due to arrive we were informed by telephone that the renovations were not finished, and that we were to relocate to Sugar Beach on the opposite side of the island. No further information received, and we had to follow up ourselves to obtain confirmations and make alternative travel arrangements.
great value for a 5 star stay
Really enjoyed the time at the hotel - great food, location, people odd occasion where maintenance starts at 8am when you are on UK hours bit early but that is being picky - would recommend for sure
The staff at the hotel were absolutely brilliant. Always happy and ready to help. The hotels rooms are spacious and well laid out. Would recommend the hotel to anyone travelling to Mauritius,
Book The Residence
A truly spectacular corner of Mauritius, with friendly and attentive staff, beautiful views and world class cuisine. 5* rating for a 5* hotel.
It’s a lovely hotel, very comfortable and beautiful beach.
amazing hotel!
Amazing hotel, truly a hidden gem. Staff very hospitable and friendly, room was amazing with ocean views. Free water sports was a nice touch. Nice gym, only lacking decent air con in the gym area. Food in the buffet was good, but the a la carte restaurant was great with Michelin level food. Highly recommended and will definitely return in the future
It was very easy to get around and everyone was very kind
A relaxing , luxury hotel in a beautiful spot in the world. What’s not to like?
Pleasant staff. Free water at the beach. No good possibilities to swim as the beach is roped off before the water becomes deep enough to swim.
This hotel is an imposing structure built on a beautiful beach which goes off in both directions. The two restaurants offer buffet or a la carte and the staff fall over themselves to serve you. The staff in the spa are wonderful and help you to have the best experience from the moment you book, through the treatment and on to departure. The staff on the beach lay out your towels, bring water and look after you.
Very relaxing and on a lovely stretch of beach. I walked a couple of miles in both directions to check out the other hotels but I think The Residence is the best. I was very happy with my choice. There is a dress code for the men at dinner which seems pointless, but that's it's only flaw.
The property was fine you would not have thought it was 20years old. Well maintained.
The entire staff is warm and friendly. The location of the Hotel itself is excellent, right next to sandy beaches with clear turquoise blue waters. Water sports available on your doorsteps ...literally. Food is excellent
Just do it
This hotel is not just the best value for money in Mauritius, I believe it might just be the best value for money in the world! The hotel and rooms are beautiful and the beach is amazing. If you are looking at this hotel and trying to make up your mind - look no further. You can thank me later!
A great place for relaxation and to get away from it all. We mostly ate from the buffet which is very good with different themes every night (and good decoration to fit the theme !). We tried the Plantation restaurant one evening but didn't find anything we wanted on the a la carte menu. However, by pre-ordering we made use of the lunchtime menu.
Everything was fabulous. The staff were attentive, friendly and courteous. The property itself is gorgeous and we had a driver called Safiy who is attached to The Residence . He fetched us from the aurport and was our driver on some day tours. Courteous, patient and informative.
I like everything I don’t like ground in room ( better parquet wood use) I don’t like the furniture it was simple There are many guests from arabica and there is no arabic tags on restaurant
Great Mauritius Trip
Beautiful oceanfront property!! Our room was fabulous! It was a ground floor ocean front colonial and it was like spending a week on the ocean - like a dream!! Breakfast was a grand spread and so was the dinner! I wish there were more vegetarian options in dinner, though! They even offered a complimentary stay beyond our checkout time as our flight was in late evening. The lonnnnnng beach has white sand and absolutely clean turquoise waters where you can swim safely! The butler (Ritesh), the receptionists (Aneesh and Bhavana), Plantation restaurant captain (Radhoa), Dining room captains (Varun, Rajesh and Ally) were fabulous people. I can suggest only one minor thing - don't charge for water bottle during lunch/dinner!! Would definitely recommend friends/family to stay at this resort. (Disclaimer: I neither work nor own any share of the property! I wish I owned!)
Great hotel
Elegant charming hotel with friendly staff anf beautiful beaches. Beautiful surroundings. This was our second stay. Only suggestion is that food can be improved.
Can’t wait to be back!
Excellent location and the property ; and extremely good service. The reception; housekeeping ; restaurant staff have given by par the best service I have seen in any hotel. Very attentive and never needed to be told for anything. A special mention to the restaurant manager at plantation .. excellent food alongwith excellent service! Going to miss all of you! Can’t wait to come back! Exceeded our expectations
5* Highly reccomend. One of the best hotels I've stayed at. We travelled a lot around Mauritius and the hotel seemed to be in one of the best beach spots....Unbelievable views of the Indian Ocean.
Beautiful property, great beach... and food in buffet and breakfast was delicious, outstanding. They upgraded me to Ocean View room... thank you! Very kind and friendly staff, speak multiple language, and they make sure to k ow yours!...
Lovely hotel, very helpful staff, room clean and luxurious with endless toiletries, towels etc . The food was good but we made the mistake of booking only breakfast so as there are no other restaurants around except in the other hotels it was very expensive. If you like to be pampered and to have your own butler catering to your every need including running your bath then this is the place for you , if like us you don't want the constant offer of help , either put the do not disturb sign on the door ( it works most times ) ,or stay somewhere else! Seriously it is a lovely hotel right on the beach , there are trips available but not a lot to do otherwise.
Beautiful hotel. Excellent customer service throughout the hotel.
Fantastic hotel, lovely location, excellent food and helpful friendly staff. The in room video was based on CDs that didn't work well and perhaps should modernise to streaming
Every thing was great but there was Wi-Fi interruption and water cut for many hours on my last day
Beautiful hotel, amazing room, staff is polite and couldn’t do enough for us,with big smiles and great sense of humor( Prithvi-keep smiling, you are amazing),buffet food is tasty and plenty there for any taste, beach is beautiful, spotless and sea is warm and clean...I can’t think of anything we didn’t like,it is paradise there,if you are thinking of booking this hotel..DO IT!!!!
No air conditioning. Having to ask every meal time three different members of staff for ice, cutlery, crockery in the Buffett restaurant - our table was never fully set. Abrupt staff in the water activity section.
Absolutely perfect stay. The staff and hotel are wonderful.
Fantastic hotel in every way. Drinks are a little overpriced but that’s my only complaint. Would go back in a flash if I got the chance.
From the moment you arrive you feel pampered and you are surrounded by luxury. The staff were incredibly friendly and everyone goes above and beyond to ensure guest satisfaction.
Very good ambience and good breeze when we visited
Amazing
Perfect location and excellent hotel. The staff have a high level of customer service, very friendly and welcoming. It was paradise!!!
Best Beach 5* at its best
Very high standard hotel. 5 star at its best. However the beach was the highlight known as the best on the island. Equal to the Maldives and Seychelles
Lovely hotel , right on the beach . The Colonial style of hotel was very attractive. Unfortunately we were given a room that had connecting door to another room. It shared outdoor space with the bigger family room . This was disappointing as not private outdoor space there was no separation between the outdoor spaces .
Average hotel and not as good as others on the island, such as the Luxe. The rooms were nice, food was ok, but staff inexperienced and not properly trained and the drinks prices were ridiculous - £8 for a small milkshake by the pool and £35 for the cheapest bottle of wine at dinner!! Really? They are losing out as looking around the resort, nobody was really enjoying a drink due to the extortionate prices! The whole place just lacked that special feeling through its very average service. We were on honeymoon (which the hotel knew as we told them before arriving and when we arrived) and there was no effort to make us special in any way. Will go back to Mauritius, but unless they change some of the above, we will not be going back to The Residence.
Beautiful beach and hotel, good breakfast and dining experience, staff very nice and helpful, upgrade my room and excellent view and very comfortable. A complimentary cake to us for our wedding anniversary present. Nice and sweet. Good facilities and we snorkeled many times, beautiful sea.
The best in Mauritius! Location, architecture, staff, service, meals, activities, privacy. Our overall experience was truly satisfying and enjoyable.
A great choice in a beautiful location
The staff really make this hotel special. Relaxing and a little old-fashioned but in a good way. No pressure at all.
Very nice hotel
Good hotel unfortunately the only issue was the wind
Lovely hotel, Beautiful view of the beach,
Reception staff were great, the room we stayed at was enchanting and always clean. Food was also great and entertainment after dinner was surprisingly really good each night without fail The beach view is breathtaking --- my favourite thing about the hotel Loved that there were activities throughout, activities staff very welcoming and made it fun to be out. Was disappointed with the dinning room and bar staff, made us feel like we were a bother at some point. Did not like going there much if we did not have to. We were taken to a mall called The Paradise which I would ask all holiday makers to avoid, the staff were pushy and made shopping there very uncomfortable and got surly when we would not buy anything. But we would return to
Lovely hotel and service. Our butler Ritesh Ramadoo was amazing, nothing was too much trouble for him.
Wonderful place to stay.
Great place - excellent staff and food and a good range of water sports. Very e njoyable and relaxing with a great beach and lovely sea for swimming, sailing snorkelling or whatever your interests.
One of the best beaches ever!
Beautiful beach with a lot of activities; not so much to do outside the hotel. Great service with everyone always attentive and caring. Big, well decorated and very comfortable rooms. Great place to rest and enjoy the sun and sea!
Great Hotel with a comprehensive range of facilities. Good food at both restaurants. Quite location on east of the Island. Beautiful beach front and plenty of space around pools during our visit in May. Room was to a very high standard and service throughout was exemplary. Drinks a bit pricey bit free bottled water available all day. Recommend half board minimum as no alternatives within walking distance for evening food . Good Hotel away from the busiest tourist areas, would recommend to anyone seeking a professional, comfortable and more sophisticated holiday.
Fantastic hotel
The Residence is an amazing hotel. In a beautiful location. The staff are attentive and happy to help out with your every request. An altogether amazing stay.
Nice hotel, just a few mistakes....
Our stay could have been perfect if the staff had not made a few mistakes... 48 hours before our check out they forgot to charge 1 Red Bull and peanuts we had taken from our mini bar. We had an early check out with driver picking us up at 6am today, and before getting in the car the concierge ran to us with the check to pay for the peanuts and the Red Bull that I thought I had paid the evening before with the rest of the bill ( huge )... I was shocked they ran to us to claim to pay that 8€ check as if we were escaping like thieves!!! obviously they had forgotten to check the mini bar like they are supposed to do daily... very bad experience! To end the stay like that is a shame...
The only fault with this hotel is the service by the pool and beach and when you finally did get a drink it was so expensive and only half filled.
Beautiful Hotel, but Needs Better Service
Uneven Service/Hospitality: The Residence Mauritius is beautiful, and by no stretch of the imagination is staying here a cheap vacation. Which is why I felt a let down by the service I received. I have stayed many places over the years, at properties of varying quality. No matter how beautiful or well-appointed a hotel is, or not, how guests are made to feel can make or break a holiday experience. And a hotel can not simply skate by on how beautiful and well maintained it is. Service truly is everything in the hospitality business. I know I have overlooked the aesthetics of a hotel just because the staff are friendly and attentive--with all guests made to feel at home--and I have become a repeat customer as a result. Few observations about Residence (space limitations): --After 5 days in my room, I finally put the card on the bed asking for sheets to be changed (totally get conserving water). However, after a day’s outing, I came back to same unchanged sheets. I called housekeeping, and they came right away to finally change the sheets. --Concierge seemed bothered by my simply asking his suggestions for outings, so took my business elsewhere. Also, surprised that the UNESCO site of Le Morne was nowhere on the hotel’s list of recommended excursions. --Pool staff do not attend to guests as one would expect. Twice while seated by the pool, it took someone an hour or so to finally come by to ask me if I wanted something.
Great place! Would go back again!
Perfect relaxing stay with perfect sunny weather
This was a relatively last minute booking and we weren't sure what to expect. The holiday was perfect! We were there for 7 days and had one afternoon of rain, one overcast day and the rest was beautiful, blazing sunshine (don't believe the weather forecasts which said thunder every day)! The room was lovely and clean and spacious with a massive bathroom / walk in wardrobe. The beach is completely perfect and we were able to find a secluded spot. The water sports are great - you can water-ski, sail, canoe, great snorkelling - all for free. In terms of food most people seemed to be half board. Dinner options are either the buffet which I'd say was average-good, or a la cart at The Plantain restaurant which is really good but your half board doesn't cover a full meal so you spend a bit more. Drinks are around £10, lunch is about £15 (and is delicious). Finally I would recommend an evening walk along the beach, past all the other resorts. Thank you for such a relaxing, lovely, sun-filled break!
Stay here!!
Stay here! Seriously, this is an exceptional hotel. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff team are so friendly. The room was beautiful and the hotel struck the right balance between elegance and class, whilst still being comfortable and warm. The beaches are wonderful, and there are a host of things to do free of charge. The food in the Plantation restaurant was superb and changed daily. The only down sides: the evening buffet in the main restaurant was disappointing - repetitive and when we went (the one and only time we did) the food was luke warm. As is usual the hotel prices for drinks was way too high, though not as expensive as other hotels we've stayed in.
Hotel with good view and excellent service
Hotel staff are very polite and friendly, hotel is located on nice and clean beach, the view and swimming pool are amazing, the drink is a lilttle bit over priced but overall the experience is very positive and would recommend to friends and family.
Bad Service Luck of management
We had our Honeymoon. We booked a suite but we made a mistake and just booked for one person. Upon arrival they wanted to charge us 150 dollars extra per night (even though they are no an all inclusive hotel) The manager was really rude and made us wait for 2 hours in the lobby with no solutions. The didnt clean our room the first day, we couldnt use the internet and many other punishments for not agreeing with them. Luck of service.
Great hotel, friendliest staff I've encountered
Lovely hotel set on a long stretch of beach. Rooms were in good condition, and may have been a few years since full refurb but we saw painters going around touching up scuffs and quite a few maintenance guys fixing broken things within minutes (we reported our safe had a low battery indicator before breakfast one morning and by the time we came back to the room it was fixed) so clear the hotel is well maintained. All complimentary water sports kit (3 x hobie cats, lasers, windsurf, water ski, SUPs, sea kayaks) was either new or next to new and the staff very helpful and willing to give instruction from the safety boat. Food was excellent. Would definitely return. Transfer time from hotel in private car about 1hr 15min.
Beautiful hotel done in the old colonial style.
Fantastic staff, brilliant hotel in a beautiful spot. Can't ask for much more. Everyone is very helpful and try to make your stay as enjoyable and effortless as possible. You even get your own butler who will make sure you are well looked after. Would definitely recommend the Residence.
Great hotel right on the beach - but........
Awesome place - great location, food, service, pool, and day spa etc. But when you go to a tropical island for a holiday and you have breakfast & lunch in the hotel restaurants with shorts, jandals and a t-shirt it is disappointing to be told that the men have to wear long trousers to dinner in the evening. Especially so when the women can wear shorts & jandals - it makes no sense! One of the ideas of a holiday is to relax and dress casually different to what you normally do in your working environment - not to be told what to wear to dinner!
40th wedding anniversary
We had been to Mauritius before and thought about returning to Sugar Beach but decided to try The Residence - we are glad we did, lovely hotel with very welcoming staff where nothing was too much trouble.
An amazing experience
We were only able to stay for 2 nights st the Residence, but the whole time we were amazed at how fantastic it was. The staff were so friendly and helpful, the room was spacious and comfortable and the pool are was quiet and relaxing. You can walk along the private beach and see some amazing views and it's a short walk to the nearby town to get supplies and do some local shopping. The food was amazing with lots of options to suit when and what you want to eat. We loved every aspect of our time there and can't recommend highly enough.
Thank you for welcoming so warmly to The Residence. My time was amazing from the moment of arrival to departure. What for me made this hotel excel was down to the employees taking pride in their service which shines through and through. I will forever want to return to "my home" in Mauritius.
awesome location
From the minute you arrive to the minute you leave all is perfect. Staff outstanding, location better than you would even imagine. Facilities excellent and food a very high standard. great ambassadors for Mauritius. Thank you all.
I spent 8 night here with my husband and 10 month-old baby girl. Besides, I'm 6 month pregnancy! We had a perfect vacation here! Great view, good service and facilities. Highly recommended for family vacation!
Beautiful hotel
Amazing hotel and great location.Option of beaches so even in windy conditions you can escape wind.Bonus was really good snorkelling right near hotel.
I felt like a Residence.
The hotel was fantastic, all the staff at The Residence was lovely, the food at the Dining Room was fantastic too, every night we went we were impressed, we weren't too impressed about the food from The Plantation though, which is a shame. Activities from the hotel is amazing, they cover snorkelling, water ski, wakeboarding. Overall 5/5 for the hotel.
A beautiful stay
We stayed at The Residence for 10 nights and could not fault it. The staff were extremely helpful and a lot of attention was paid to detail. The location is excellent and Belle Mare village is a mere 10 minute stroll from the hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a luxury break in a stunning location. We were also impressed by the complimentary boat trips from the adjoining yacht club
A stop in paradise
Overall was amazing. Really good service, everything works perfectly and when assistance needed, it was immediate and well executed. Great location and perfect views with excellent facilities. Very nice staff
Perfection on the Beach
Absolute perfection in every way. Beautiful, big suite, fruit basket and champagne, wonderful staff, good food, lovely views!!
Very beautiful surroundings, beach lovely.
We spent 10 days. The beach and pool and hotel were beautiful. The yacht club was very good with many activities. Great place for a relaxing holiday. Food was disappointing- very limited choices for vegetarians. Food quality could have been better. the main restaurant buffet was limited. The plantation restaurant offering a la carte menu was good with much better quality of food. Drinks were very over priced and excessive Although we enjoyed our stay we were disappointed with the food.
One of the best in Mauritius
Best hotel there but pricing for food and drinks not covered by half board is ridiculous. Eat lunch off premises
Disappointment, too much talk no walk
Always heard that the hotels in Mauritius were spotless. Not really! Too many promises, no fulfilment. Hotel food is very good, service is very poor, bill is confusing, spa too expensive for the same sort of treatments, just change name, butler just carries laundry, but do not make sure it is done properly, ruined one of my new trousers, only got an answer after questioning 5 times. Resident Scuba Centre is below service standards. Too many rules in the hotel for a very confused and weak service staff. They smile, say will do, and nothing happens.
Nice hotel, luxurious.
Hotel staff were all very friendly. Just that the sliding doors were too heavy, it is not quite convenient for people with backache to pull/push these doors.
Lovely colonial hotel with an amazing beach
Lovely colonial building and amazing beach - we've stayed around the island and the East side has some of the best beaches. The rooms are slightly dated but still very comfortable. We had a suite with access to the terrace with amazing views of the sea. Spacious bathroom. Love the bathtub! Breakfast also great with a wide selection. Symon's restaurant in Belle Mare nearby had really great seafood and offered free transfers to and from the hotel.
Wonderful
Absolutely superb hotel. Stunning location and the staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating, we were really well looked after. Room was beautiful and the food was excellent - we particularly enjoyed the plantation restaurant.
Individualistic hotel in a beautiful bay
We love everything about The Residence except perhaps for the lack of variety in the breakfast buffet. After 4 mornings, one is hard put to find anything new & interesting. Dinner at The Plantation offered many options and the dishes are attractively presented. However the wine list could include half carafes or half bottles as the price per glass is rather exorbitant. The restaurant venue itself is very pleasant. The service on the whole was friendly & efficient yet not intrusive.
a tranquil getaway in paradise - excellence!
Everything is wonderful, except for the coffee. And i found the cocktails pretty pricy for the quality. The service is incredible though
Great Hotel, Great staff
Great hotel and service. Could not do enough to help. Cant recommend highly enough
We enjoyed our stay. The kids had a fantastic time. The food was good . But no fish and chips on the menu. One disappointment was the booking which should have been sorted before check in. It caused a bit of an upset.
Impeccable, beautiful
We spent 8 nights here in an ocean-front room. The hotel is styled with a colonial theme, huge impressive lobby and lounge area. Beautifully decorated throughout. The butler dedicated to your room ensures you are settled in when you arrive, informing you of everything you need to know. The hotel grounds are immaculate, and the vast beach in front of this hotel is immaculate - probably raked each night. (I always maintain that you can tell the class of a hotel by the state of its beachfront.) There is a different theme for the dinners at the buffet restaurant each night, and there is always someone at the piano, besides some feature entertainment later. One also has the option of going to the a la carte restaurant which, like the buffet restaurant, has impeccable food. All staff were friendly, polite, deferent and helpful. We enjoyed every minute of this relaxing holiday.
Great place for relaxing and very nice staff
The hotel / the beach were great ! The staff was very nice
The best is affordable at the Residence
We had a most wonderful holiday at the lovely Residence hotel. The reception was warm, the service was friendly, the room was spacious and decor beautiful. The spread at breakfast and dinner was large and scrumptious. The hotel setting was great with lovely beach and swimming pools. With so many free water activities and amenities offered making this by far the best and most affordable, luxury holiday ever.
Fabulous hotel in magical beachfront location
Old world charm & service makes you feel like part of an extended family. If you don't see what you want on the menu just tell them what you want & it is prepared especially for you at no extra charge & with real love & affection. The beach is stunning & is kept looking immaculate buy grounds staff. While the amenities are modern the whole property exudes old world charm & values in every way.
White beaches great hotel
Wonderful staff Great white long beach Close to little town Good variety of food
Amazing Stay
Very Relaxing Stay,Good Sized Rooms, Courteous Staff & their Smiling Faces made our Stay one of most enjoyed one.Hotel's Yacht club which offers many Complimentary water activities was a real fun.Would definately recommend The Residence.
Great relaxation, but few ifs...
Great hotel, friendly staff, great food choice at the Buffet, rooms are OK. Great amnesties - by far the biggest plus of this hotel: awesome pools and service in the pool area, beaches are clean, water sports are free of charge, spa is amazing, worth going just to enjoy this. Wifi is fast with great reception. Few issues - Very slow service at dinners. You order a drink/water/cocktail and you get it by the time you finish you deserts already The plantation restaurant is just not up to the standard - a la carte menu is full replica of the buffet but you pay substantially extra (though service is much faster). I would expect from their a la carte restaurant something more sophisticated menu-wise. Definitely not worth the value you pay for it. No Internet at the first beach area - had to connect to the neighboring hotel network :) The sea is shallow - was my first time in Mauritius, but be aware - especially in the mornings, it will be foot-deep for the next 50 meters and rocky thereafter, so enjoying swimming in the sea is not really an option. travelled a lot around the island - the residence is definitely one of the best money/value combinations, so strongly recommend as your first choice.
Great hotel, friendly staff
Extremely pleasant stay, lovely beach, great water sports, amazing staff. My only mild criticism would be it could do with slightly more food choice.
Wonderful honeymoon
Upgraded as it was our honeymoon to a beach suite room which was excellent; Service generally in the hotel was very good throughout our stay in all contacts with the hotel personnel; loved the beach and the beach / sea activities laid on by the hotel (snorkeling in the bay from the hotel boat was as good as the snorkeling in Blue Bay on a trip). Food from the buffet was generally of a high standard compared to what one might expect, and reasonably varied throughout the week.
Relaxing week
One of the best hotels in Mauritius. We had a great week, staff, food and beach are fantastic. Hotel was quite quiet ( mid March). The village of Belle Mare is a 5 minute walk away and we found a very professional tour operator for day trips plus a few shops. Try Vickys or the 'Shack in the trees by the beach' for a cheap and cheerful variant to hotel lunch.
nice hotel
ok but need a car
