Good but not as nice as 2 years ago
Quaint and charming, Authentic period features and location, you can see the history in the building and area. aircon/gas fire/Electric Blankets are provided and are essential for the cold months of the year (July) in Parkes.
Property was very clean and is certainly “a step back in time” as it was built in 1910.
We liked the old world charm, the hospitality of Colin the host, all the utensils and appliances provided, the comfortable furniture and decor, the big desk, the fireplace and the location was quiet but close to the centre of town.
Brilliant place to stay.
We had a lovely cosy stay. Very close to the main street and restaurants
Wonderful hosts, huge room, quirky and fun
Quaint B&B, plently of space and close the centre of town.
The ground floor Music Room is very comfortable and well-equipped. We especially appreciated the access to a laundry and drying facilities.
I loved the uniqueness of the property and apartment. It was very cosy and made me feel very much like I was on a vacation! Additionally, the bed was very comfortable, space to spread out was fantastic, and the kitchen and breakfast was everything we needed!
Beautifully presented historic property in the heart of Parkes. Being pet friendly our dogs got to enjoy it too.
Comfortable stay in Parkes
We had 1 night here. Although old-style accommodation, it was excellent, with a lot of character and charm. We were in the "Music Room", which was enormous (really a whole apartment). The bed was very comfortable. Everything we needed was there. The outdoor seating areas were good, although it was a bit too hot for us to use them much. The breakfast supplies were very generous. Located within few minutes' walk of the main street. Would definitely recommend as an alternative to a standard motel room.
We were surprised by the size of the room and how beautifully it was appointed. Would be great for a family. The facilities were spotless and in character with the era which made for a unique and pleasant experience.
Owners were very welcoming everything exceeded expectations
Greeted by Colin, Miss Til (little terrier) and immediately felt the old world charm. Colin showed us to our very spacious, butt cosy self contained apartment and explained the history - the 'room' had been the homework/study area for female students.... " A place of learning and discipline'. Very light and airy with a quaint little verandah, comfortable kitchen - everything we needed, even bathrobes. A plentiful breakfast, we wanted for nothing....and the bed gave us a great night's sleep. Would recommend this charming piece of local history. Thank you Colin...and Miss Til!
We loved our stay at this place. From the moment of our arrival, Colin made us and our two young children feel very welcome. The kids loved the lemons picked straight from the tree - and the chickens. The room was so interesting and very comfortable. It was clean and warm. The breakfast items set us up perfectly for another day on the road. We would highly recommend this lovely place.
Dont bother
Interestingly after reading the other reviews on this b & b we really had to disagree with previous ratings. Our check in was 4pm - I have to say this was the first time in hundreds of stays all over the world that we had such a late check in. We had arrived after a long day of travel at 3pm hoping for an early (and I say that with toungue in cheek) checkin. After ringing the bell a few times it was evident that no-one was on the premises. At 4.15 my husband actually rang the mobile no. to be told he was on his way and would be a minute. Closer to 4.30 he rocked up saying that he was at a luncheon. Great start. I asked what time check out was assuming it would be later than the 10am usual but no, it was 10. We were shown our tired, and freezing cold room and although it had character there were numerous issues from broken fridge door handles to loose unsafe stairs to name a couple. It took about 2 hrs to heat the large room and for us to feel comfortable. I really would look elsewhere if you want value for money and good old fashioned hospitality. I think the owners are really resting on their past reviews and reputation. We absolutely wont be back. It was the worst place we stayed on our road trip.
Absolutely loved the old world feeling and decor of this fabulous accomodation. Gorgeous comfy king bed , two fireplaces , we used the one that was gas and easy to light ! Also it was great to have breakfast supplied so that we could cook it when we wanted to , to have an early driving start .
A true gem! A very happy find with hosts who have clearly restored life back into this amazing piece of history with an eye for detail and a loving approach. Looking forward to returning again some day and sending family and friends who we know will appreciate this beautiful place as much as we do.
Brilliant experience staying here! Lovely hosts, clean, quiet and convenient location.
A wonderful suite & stay at the Old Convent Parkes
An extraordinary and wonderful place to stay - the suite was elegant and very practical - even more pleasing was accommodation allowed pets. The Old Convent is a must for anyone travelling along the Newell Highway - cannot recommend it highly enough! Centrally located - welcoming and very obliging owner! Breakfast was outstanding and included eggs from their own chickens!
Beautiful historical building with spacious and comfortable rooms. Lovely welcome from the owners too. We enjoyed a dip in the hot tub in the garden then walked a couple of hundred metres to the Woolworths to buy food and cooked it in our kitchen before settlling in to watch The Dish on the DVD provided. The breakfast ingredients provided were plentiful and delicious and the flexibility was wonderful. Highly recommend the Convent as a lovely alternative to motels.
Beautiful rooms and great surroundings. Such a nice place to stay!
Loved the old world feel and the space, breakfast was pretty good too
Something different
Old world charm. Excellent room with a delicious cook yourself breakfast...
terrific stay close to town for an overnight stay.
Friendly owner. Great self serve brekky in the fridge thx !! Close to a few good eateries and a walk around the town.
Fantastic place to stay. A very spacious room with all the creature comforts. Exudes an old world charm.
It was a real pleasure to stay in an iconic historical B & B, once run by the nuns many years ago. The Piano Apartment is very comfortable and we had a relaxing time. Thanks Colin and Judy.
Roomy heritage restoration
This was a real surprise- much bigger than we expected plus all the ingredients for breakfast were included. This property is superbly restored, spacious, but with mod cons like wifi and Foxtel. Just one minute from the Main Street, but very quiet. Highly recommended.
huge room
We booked at the very last minute and the hosts were very accommodating. We had The Top Of the Chapel room which was enormous. A huge queen or king comfy bed, a beautifully decorated lounge space with period furniture, a dining area and anextra double bunk bed. The fully equipped kitchen area was seperate from the bed/lounge and included breakfast supplies which were enough for dinner as well, and complimentary port. The bathrooms were modest but functional. The property had chooks and a friendly cat. The room also had DVDs books and games available. We had a great time.
Definitely stay again
lovely character building with charm, decorated beautifully. Extra facilities like spa, bbq, wide veranda's to sit under, bikes to use. convenient location to city centre.
Fresh eggs, impressive stay
A beautiful place to stay with delicious cook-your-own breakfast provided — including fresh eggs from the chickens in the hotel grounds.
Excellent accommodation in the heart of town
Giant comfy room for our family of four. Great to be able to cook own breakfast with a well stocked pantry - no need to buy anything extra! One road up from Main Street made going into town easy. Great history about the Convent made it an interesting place to stay.
Wonderful stay at the Old Parkes Convent
We had a wonderful experience at the Old Parkes Convent. It was a magnicent apartment, extremely spacious comfortable and had so much charm & character. The king size bed was so comfortable. The apartment had everything that you would need for a relaxing stay. The hosts were very generous and had even provided a fridge full of goodies including bread, milk, butter, bacon & eggs & even orange juice. The spa was a welcoming sight after a long day on the road. The apartment was extremely clean & tidy. Highly recommend this accomodation to any one.
