Great hotel. Room had charm and lots of windows. The staff was lovely. Free wine at 5 and coffee in the AM
Room was avg
Great location and service
My go to hotel in New York. Great location, good size rooms and always good service.
Excellent service, great location. I really loved having morning tea & coffee available in the lobby.
Nice property but room was tired and worn. In need of an update.
Meh.
Rather disappointed with room condition and staff. A few were friendly and professional, but others dismissive and curt. For the price, this was not great. That said, the lobby bar is nice and the location good
Great location and fair price
Great location to stay with lots around the hotel.
Had an amazing stay!!!
Really enjoyed my short stay here. Excellent staff, great location, room is old but done nicely with so much space. Will def stay here again.
Great place!
There was a cockroach in our room on the 9th floor. The sink and shower both had bad drainage, clogged
Perfect for mother daughter get-away
Our second stay at The James in the past year. It is stylish, comfortable and very well located. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Great Family Stay at The James
Hotel staff went above and beyond what was expected to take care of my family. The suite and king room combination was private and quiet, a perfect set up for a family trip.
Best staff
I left my wallet in the lobby and the porter returned to me !
I really like this hotel. Terrific staff and food. My room this time has no table for in-room dining. Simply too small.
Property is nice, beds are comfortable. The location is great. The rooms are a bit on the small side, for the normal room anyway. Bathrooms are a bit cramped as well, and the shower leaves a little to be desired. But overall I liked the hotel, the staff was super helpful, and I will stay there again when travelling to NYC. Parking garage next door is super convenient if you're driving.
Overall, nice property with good common areas for working. I was traveling for business though and my room was very loud next to the service elevator.
Great staff and food.
Great location. Greeted by live music and wine. Nice staff. Room is spacious and clean. Furnishings a little run down, but a great home base for visit to NYC.
Good service. Spacious rooms. But pull out bed was not comfortable. And lots of renos going on that we weren’t warned about in advance.
Nice stay- rooms a little worn
The rooms were a little worn for the high price of the hotel. I liked that there was a happy hour and free coffee in the AM. I also like that this is a union hotel. I like supporting union workers! The location is great especially if you want to eat or shop in Koreatown.
Overall very good experience
Staff were all very pleasant and the location for this hotel can’t be beat. Right in the middle of it all without the tourist crowds, and convenient to MTA. Beds were clean and comfortable. Lovely stay all around!
2nd time staying at The James, and continue to enjoy the location and property. Great option if you’re in town to see a show but want to be somewhat away from midtown/times square. Easy walk up to theater district and also downtown to Chelsea, LES, west village, etc. for dining and shopping. Rooms are also more spacious than your typical nyc hotel - particularly the 2 queen. Always enjoy the evening wine offerings in the lobby, and coffee in morning. Last time I stayed there will also complimentary pastries/ light bites, and did miss them available on the most recent stay. Also since coffee machines aren’t in the room, I would love coffee service to start at 6 vs 7. Not a big deal, but would be nice. Luckily there are a handful of 24hr bodegas and coffee shops nearby.
Our go to stay in Manhattan
The front desk people were so nice and helpful and I loved the location
Great location.. ;
comfortable, quiet, stylish
Lovely hotel, great location
Lovely hotel great central location….lobby and Scarlett’s top notch, the rooms are incredibly spacious by NY standards and the bathrooms were clearly where the budget went…very well done. The rooms were super clean and very comfortable however left a bit to the imagination in lux decor…..nonetheless was a perfect landing spot for my business trip. Staff was very lovely and kind and good at their jobs. Overall a great place to stay while in the city❣️
Horrible
Average At Best
Paid a premium for staying during the holidays, but the room was average at best. Really needs to be deep cleaned. AC left the room very muggy and had a wet odor. Asked the receptionist desk to assist and they said another room would have the same results. Lobby has a trendy vibe but rooms were not it.
Good hotel. Booked the larger rooms standard room very small
We have stayed at the James twice in the last 3 months. We love the location in Nomad, and the room is a good value. The staff is very responsive. They offer a happy hour every evening and have live music in the lobby on Thursdays. I think the housekeeping could be a bit better, in terms of attention to detail. Other than that our stay was exceptional.
What an absolute rip off!! My family got sick before our trip, we contacted hotels.com to reschedule… wouldn’t answer until it was too late to do anything… but always giving excuses. Latest was please do another reservation and we will refund this one, and when I did, and supposedly stay was over then the tone change to sorry nothing to do.
Great place
Great staff, beds were very comfortable. We really enjoyed the wine service from 5:00-6:00pm every night. Great atmosphere in the hotel lobby/lounge!
Used to like this hotel, but now moving on.
I have stayed at this hotel for about 20 times in the last year and some and the same people at the front desk never recognize or acknowledge me. The additional charges for work out room, etc., never bed and a $5100 charge added. Bathroom door slammed into a toilet, increasingly the hotel is getting shabbier. Used to like this hotel, but am now looking elsewhere...
Loved the size of the room- spacious!! Beds, pillows, and comforter was beyond comfy. Highly recommend!
Great location, lovely building, comfy beds!
What a beautiful building in a perfect, quiet location that is just off the beaten path! We loved the quick check in from the friendly and efficient staff, the wine and happy hour in the lobby, and the fantastic clean and comfortable room! The breakfast at Scarpetta was wonderful and everything about our stay was perfect!
The hotel was just so-so. We had booked a deluxe two queen bed. However, the beds were double size and not queens so that was disappointing. By the time we figured it out, we were too tired to go deal with trying to change the room. The room seemed old and rundown, and the sink didn’t drain. I can’t recommend this hotel unfortunately.
Great hotel and location
We loved the James: Location - prefect midtown location, close to subway, bus stops, walking distance to The Empire State, Times Square, and even Soho (if you enjoy walking NYC). Tons of restaurants in the area, from all kinds, and a nice EATALY just near by in Madison Square The hotel is in great shape, has an old authentic feeling that is well maintained. The room was big enough for the three of us, the beds were one of the more comfortable we had. Water pressure was good, and the water was blazing hot. The only improvement I would suggest is having more room and hangers in the bathroom. There is no room to place all out stuff
Decent rate. Appreciated food drink credit . Good location. Nice ambience .
Maintenance on AC/heat units. Had to switch rooms due to noisy units
We were thrilled tgst our room was ready upon check in at 12 and the staff was very friendly, however we received a call at 12:40 AM letting us know they could not locate a rollaway bed when we had already received it hours ago. The call eoke us up. Aside from that interruption, the suite was great and we loved being able to see the ESB from our window. It was relatively quiet for NY and we loved the location.
The building was beautiful, inside and out. The staff were very professional. We loved the social events in the lobby lounge. The room was very comfortable and clean, and the shower was excellent!
Now my favourite NYC hotel!
The room was very large by NYC standards. No street noise, comfortable bed. I really enjoyed the nightly happy hour, and the location can't be beat. Will definitely be back!
There really wasn’t anything VIP at all. I only received an upgrade because our room was dirty. I would never stay there again or refer anyone else stay there.
We love this small & chic hotel in the middle of everything.
*Beware of mini bar charges* I stayed here with my sister about a month ago. Hotel is conveniently located. We stayed in a deluxe king room. While a bit on the smaller side, there were convenient spots to store away your luggage so it’s out of the way and not taking up space. Room and bathroom were clean and up to date. Bed was comfortable, but mattress was on the firmer side in case that is something you dislike. Our room was also towards the back of the hotel and it was very quiet. Free coffee & tea in the mornings & free wine in evenings. When we went down for wine, there was also a band which made for a really nice environment. Staff during our stay were all friendly & professional. However, the issue arose after we left. I decided to take off 2 stars from my rating because a couple days later $78 was charged to my sister’s credit card. We had no idea what it was for and it took a bit of emailing back and forth to find out it was for the mini bar. However, we didn’t have anything from the mini bar as we had purchased our own snacks & water across the street at Whole Foods. Also the bill they finally sent my sister wasn’t itemized to show what was supposedly consumed from the mini bar. It was just a lump sum that said “mini bar”. It felt like such a scam. If you plan to stay here, I would advise that you take a picture of the mini bar when you check in and another at check out or keep a note of what you had and tell them at check out to avoid incorrect charges.
Great stay! great location
Nice stay but in need of a refresh
Great location, big rooms and very comfortable beds, makes this hotel a great choice for exploring Manhattan, but the hotel could use some upgrades. The bathrooms are showing their age and there were a number of stains on the carpets and drapes. The room was clean overall. For the price of this hotel it is absurd that there is no coffee maker in the room, but the front desk did send up a kettle when requested. They seem do be down some staff since our last stay in 2023 and they were pretty stingey with the happy hour pastries. Overall a good stay but I think I will chose elsewhere next time.
Great hotel, very friendly staff and excellent location. Would stay again
Room needs to upgrade
Great hotel!
This is a beautiful hotel within walking distance of restaurants. The only disappointment we had was getting room service. They closed the kitchen early one night and didn’t answer the phone one of our mornings there. The rooms are very nice size.
Very accommodating and helpful. Great staff
The rooms are in fact incredibly small, which would have been fine if everything else was up to par, but The James misses the mark. I was not impressed with the bed/bedding, the room was musky and had stains everywhere. The heat/fan had a weird odor. The towels were also stained. Don’t bother ordering room service, we ordered a “roasted turkey sandwich” and the turkey was low quality deli meat…for $40. Pros are the location and the water pressure in the shower. I personally wouldn’t stay here again or ever recommend.
Very nice stay. Thank you!
Clean, nice hotel with personable staff and great amenities. Walkable location. Highly recommend when staying in the city.
The James was an excellent property and everyone was very nice. Rooms were very clean. Inside of the hotel was quite even though our room was two steps out of the elevator.
Decent Boitique Hotel - Great location
Great Location Decent Boutique Hotel
One of the nicest hotels I’ve stayed at in New York. The service was excellent. The room was clean and had space enough to move around. Nice size bathroom as well. The location is very centrally located as well.
Stayed here just for a night but can honestly say it was a great experience and will definitely love to stay there again!
Nothing special and poor service
We had two rooms. The queen room was beyond small where the bed practically touched the door. the shower leaked water and there wasn’t really anyway to stop it. The king room was bigger but neither had a luggage rack or any practical place to put a suitcase. We arrived early, dropped our bags and they said they would text us when rooms were ready. Didn’t receive a text until almost 6pm. They claimed they didn’t see our F&B credit for one of the rooms. Rooms were clean. They charged my card for the rooms in full more than 24hrs in advance even though it was pay at the property reservation and when questioned I was told it was a pre authorization. Stay elsewhere.
Love this small, well located hotel with a great Italian restaurant
Very comfortable. Top notch amenities.
Old furniture and in bad shape
The hotel is in very bad shape, old and broken furniture, I complained and cancel my reservation the first day and didn’t care and reject to reímburse the other 2 nights that I didn’t use
Great happy hour. Large room, large bathroom. Room was really loud with street noise. I know it’s a busy city but windows could be replaced.
Basic room Extremely hot in room Thermostat didn’t work
All its cracked up to be
While the hotel is beautiful and the beds were super comfortable, we had a bad experience and got accused of smoking in our room (accusation made in front of my child) when we checked out and charged a fee. And then per their evidence, someone must have been in our room while we were out and about in the city. It took a lot of calls and complaints to finally speak with someone that was able to apologize for what unfolded and the fee refunded.
Beautiful hotel offering wines in the evening. Conveniently located.
I booked through Expedia. Hotel charged me a completely different, and much higher rate- have not resolved the issue. Terrible service
Loved our stay and will do it again.
1 person doing check in (super long line) Room was in the 50’s temp wise Thermostat was broken Engineer came to fix and then it was locked in at 75 Could not control temperature
we were very impressed with this hotel, easy and walkable, they had luggage drop off if needed which I used the day I was checking out, Our room was available early in the day which was so appreciated since we had been traveling since 3 Am that day. Bed was cosy and comfy, shower was fantastic, staff was very helpful and all fees were clearly outlined which I really like!
I liked the size of the rooms and great location.
Decent and comfortable stay in Manhattan
We enjoyed our 5 night stay at The James. Its in a very convenient area to both South Manhattan and the tourist areas on the north end. The staff were friendly and helpful whenever we interacted with them. The rooms were clean and the bed was very comfortable. The daily happy hour is a nice touch and we enjoyed it. The negatives would be that the carpet in our room, and im assuming the others, is in desperate need of replacement, as its filthy and stained. I think if they replaced it with tile it would make the room feel more modern and clean. We had a minor incidence with house keeping, they accidentally threw out a souvenir bag with a t-shirt inside. However the front desk was apologetic when we brought it to their attention. Overall this was a fine stay in Manhattan, but I think for the price there are improvements they could make.
Mixed experience
No hand soap, hard pillows, no fruit in the morning, no coffee cream on Day 2, full-length mirror in armoire was too small to see myself. But a lovely shower, super clean, elevators secure, close to subway and nice people. And I see the average night in NYC costs $75 more, so maybe it’s ok.
Fantastic Stay at The James New York - NoMad! I recently stayed at The James New York - NoMad, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The hotel is perfectly located in the heart of Manhattan, making it easy to explore both the bustling streets of NoMad and the nearby neighborhoods like Chelsea and the Flatiron District. Location: The location is ideal, situated just a short walk from the Empire State Building, Madison Square Park, and a variety of great restaurants, cafes, and bars. Whether you're in town for business or leisure, you'll find everything you need right at your doorstep. The Room: My room was extra spacious, modern, and beautifully designed with sleek, minimalist décor. The large windows offered a stunning view of the city skyline, which made for some fantastic sunset moments. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the bathroom was top-notch with high-end amenities. The attention to detail in both design and functionality really stood out. Service: The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, always eager to make sure my stay was as comfortable as possible. From the front desk to the concierge team, everyone went out of their way to assist with any requests I had. Upon check-in, there was a complimentary bottle of wine and small personal birthday cake. I was upgraded to a deluxe king with a fantastic view of The Empire State Building, free of charge and included with my VIP Status. Must stay - definitely returning!
Great location in the NoMad region. Very accommodating staff. Room was comfortable and quite quiet. It is our go-to hotel when we visit Manhattan
Mediocre experience
Hotel is in an amazing location and has a beautiful lobby. That’s where the great things end. Terrible check in experience and room was the smallest room I’ve ever stayed in. I have found that when booking through hotels.com the check in staff treats you like a second class citizen. They seem annoyed and put out that you booked through a ‘third party’. Apparently that’s why the pricing is the best on hotels.com bc this hotel reserves its worst rooms for this purpose. Have stayed here for work and personal but won’t patronize them again.
Great place!
So clean & well thought out space. Nice amenities & amazing friendly staff!
Will definitely book again
i already did
Very nice property, very friendly staff
Great property and in the middle of downtown.
Come for the chic...stay for the bed!
Loved the neighborhood and the bed was super comfortable! Had a unique and 'non-corporate' feel! Nice offering of bottles of filtered water to the room and complimentary wine hour in their cool bar in the evenings. Super chic retro mini bar...want one for my home! Overall...great visit
Staff were lovely but front desk organization was a train wreck. Finally over billing in multi areas was all sorted out 5 days after we left by one of the managers Vannessa who corrected a nightmare of communication in 5 minutes. If you meet Kent dont deal with him. My partner and I have been in the 5* restaurant and hotel space for 30 years this guy's in the wrong business. Front door staff were super lovely.
Valet parking on site!
Great location, convenient valet parking. Staff is helpful and attentive. Solid, NYC stay.
I am a Platinum level Expedia traveler and am usually treated much better at hotels that are suggested by Expedia. I prepaid my stay in full and was surprised by the attitude of the check in staff. They did not even take the time to acknowledge my status. When I asked about upgrades the response was rude and they did not even appear to check. In addition they never mentioned the perks that I was entitled to and I actually had to request it. Upon check out the room credit was not credited and I again had to ask for it to be applied. The rooms are small and this is to be expected in NYC but the bathroom shower head looked cheap and the shower gel bottle was empty. Luckily we brought our own. Imagine if I had gotten in the shower only to realize that it was empty? Based on the cost and location I expected way better. We frequently stay in the city to go to shows and dinner but I will not return to this hotel or recommend it to my friends and family.
Clean but somewhat small
Clean room with friendly hotel staff. The room was very small though, and it was hard to maneuver there.
Bathroom was in worn out condition with duct tape around the bathroom window & shower leaks all over the floor. The supposedly complementary water & coffee at lobby gets charged at $45 dollars a day as a hidden fee at the end of the stay. Place is a scam.
great location, friendly, helpful staff. Clean room with comfortable bedding
Location was great. Service at host stand at Scarpetta was cold and unwelcoming.
The property is dated but well maintained. Staff wasn’t that friendly when we checked in, he didn’t bother to tell us how things work, when and where they were, until we’ve asked. The room is right in front of elevators so it’s loud when someone passing by. In the middle of night, we can hear people shouting out on the street
Wonderfully appointed hotel in the heart of Manhattan. Accessible to great neighborhoods for dining and shopping.
The hotel was very clean and the room was nice. It was a little noisy at night especially because there was some music playing until about midnight and you could feel the bass when you were sleeping. But the location is superb and there are so many great dining and shopping areas nearby.
Great location , close to all but away from the crowds and noise. Flatiron / Nomad is a walkable neighborhood with a local feel .

Good location, staff was super nice, can’t say enough about them. Nice area, a little noisy in the morning but it’s the city what can you expect lol.
