Handy for the restaurants and shops in Ponsonby and close to the city. But the room was cramped and in need of a makeover.
Excellent location, welcoming staff, comfortable rooms, delicious breakfasts. We will stay here again should we return to Auckland.
Our stay was short but amazing. Our host made us feel at home. The house and rooms are charming and had everything we needed. The grounds are great and inviting. We had a little rain but still enjoyed the birds and the quiet atmosphere. The views on to the city and sky tower are perfect. Walking to dinner was not a problem and we had awesome Cambodian food at Tinfenys in the ponsonby central food court.
The Great Ponsonby is a place full of character and quirky… we loved it! All the staff are so kind, friendly and helpful. They even did our laundry! Breakfast was great. Lots of places to dine within very easy walking distance. Wish we could have stayed longer.
We loved the neighborhood that this property is in, particularly that it was walkable to good food, quiet at night, and had a nice small park nearby. The staff were great and very accommodating and helpful. What the property lacks is privacy -- other visitors hanging out outside of their rooms talking sounded like they were in our room, and if our blinds were open, anyone could see in. Overall, though, I would stay here again.
A great, quiet location to explore Ponsonby and surroundings. The street was very quiet however the buildings are pretty dated and it was loud whenever the next room used the shower/bathroom. The rooms could do with a refurbishment but the staff were so lovely and accommodating.
Everything was great, staff was so friendly and helpful. Only downside (but a large one), the bed was uncomfortable. Super soft and difficult to sleep. Plus not many king size options so we opted for Queen but I’m a toss/turner at night, so next to husband didn’t sleep great. But everything was clean, great space for the room, and a great location next to restaurants and had free parking.
Lovely hotel right in the heart of Ponsonby
Lovely hotel in a quiet street just off the main road of Ponsonby. Terrific location, right near one of Auckland’s best eating districts. Service was very friendly and the hotel was quiet. Would definitely stay again.
We had a wonderful two nights stay here - especially since we walked to dinner both nights and there are so many restaurants just a few blocks away. Out also quite close to downtown Auckland, the harbor and Sky Tower. The room itself was fine - had everything that was advertised. There was even a cute little courtyard right outside our unit of we had wanted to linger (we didn’t as we were only there two days and had so much we wanted to see and do).
A lovely place in a quiet neighbourhood, just a couple of minutes walk from some of the best eating & drinking in Auckland - you could spend weeks here and never eat at the same place twice. The ArtHotel itself is lovely - we stayed in a small apartment which had everything we needed. The staff were lovely and gave us all the space & privacy we needed, while the ArtHotel had plenty of social options for those who like that sort of thing. We'll definitely stay there again when we return to Auckland.
Enjoyed our stay would stay again
It was bit like stepping back in time, back to honesty and trust. They offer a free drink, if you want more you write down what you had, for eg. No full length mirror. Also no shower cap! Otherwise everything you could want. Very quiet. Nice rooms.
Lovely hosts; very clean comfortable rooms; great breakfast. A little oasis in the city. Highly recommended.
unique
Great place to stay.
Absolutely charming.
Had a great welcome from the host and was very helpful. The room was pretty dated but very clean. Not sure about other rooms but the sheets felt a little damp, not sure whether that was just Auckland on this day.
I'll be back
A lovely hotel. A bit shabby around the edges, perhaps, but clean and well-maintained and full of bright charm and character. The neighborhood is predominately residential: the quiet streets are lined with attractive homes. Just up from the hotel is the main road, with loads of good cafes and restaurants and shopping, not to mention views down the other side of CBD. I love to walk, so it wasn't a problem to me that the hotel was a good 45 minutes or even an hour by foot from downtown. The hotel breakfast was not included in my rate, which I was told was just as well because if I paid for it in my rate I'd be paying for breakfast for two, and I am a solo traveler; instead I went up to the high street, which was great. I will gladly come back the next time I'm in Auckland.
A very quirky gorgeous hotel.
Somewhere different.
Interesting hotel in a great location.
I spent three nights at the Art Hotel with great rooms, lovely service and I would recommend for singles and couples who want to be near everything but still have piece and quiet and with the bonus of free parking and full breakfast service.
Very clean, staff were very friendly and helpful. Nice unique property.
Ponsonby is a true gem. It’s filled with character, quirkiness, and care. If you’re interested in something unique, and a short walk from a ton of restaurants and shops, I highly recommend the ArtHotel.
Great location and spacious room
Great stay. Excellent location for our visit. Lovely, friendly staff. Good vibe
What a lovely hidden gem. Has everything you need and walking distance to shops and restaurants in Ponsonby. On a very quiet road with easy parking. Will definitely return
A lovely comfortable friendly place to stay with a Pacifica flavor -loved it
Easy walking distance. Nice rooms, very quiet area away from hustle and bustle. Would stay again.
Amazing location in Ponsonby. Easy walking to shops and restaurants. Very quiet location and our car was safe on the street. Room was pleasant and had everything we needed. Unbelievably quiet, only time we heard any of the guests was when our neighbors had a shower in the morning. Would stay again
We stay here regularly. Staff are wonderful. Our parking was on the street as no space inside property. Another guest was using our balcony late in the evening which was slightly disconcerting. They had climbed over the railing to get to it. However they did move when we asked. Perfect location.
Unique property, friendly, cosy and value for money. Lovely breakfast included in the tariff
Quiet and peaceful with quirky comfort. Perfect location too.
Clean quiet friendly close to town. All good......
It is a unique property with a nice homely atmosphere.Ecostore products, paper, fruitbursts, honesty barfridge were a great touch.Only minus was the way too soft mattress.
Such s charming hotel. Staff were kind and welcoming.
Beautiful hotel close to the CBD
I LOVED staying here! I travel to Auckland on business about once a year, and wanted to see another side of the city beyond the downtown. Ponsonby is a beautiful neighborhood that's only a few minutes' car ride from the business district of Auckland, so a great place to stay for some variety, and this hotel is so gorgeous and so full of little extras and attentions that I will DEFINITELY be returning there next year. Thank you so much for creating such a lovely place to be!
Close to many restaurants
Interesting place with great breakfast and walking distance to many restaurants. 5 minutes from downtown and waterfront by Uber or cab. Quiet location with attentive owners.
Cute hotel with friendly service. Essentially a classic bed and breakfast. Great location with all of the Ponsonby trendy shops on the doorstep and only a short walk to the CBD and k-rd bars/restaurants.
We enjoyed our stay very much. Our next stay we'd like to try a studio out the back. The breakfasts were delicious. The location was great to access Ponsonby but the more touristy harbourfront is only a 40 minute walk also and mostly downhill. We did however take a taxi back. 20 NZ. They really care about you enjoying your stay!
Love the boutique appeal - George the cat - the honesty drinks and complimentary drinks and the staff are fabulous
The casual use of artwork was very well done. We enjoyed our breakfasts!
Good location, restaurants nearby. Quiet neighborhood. Nice garden area. Good breakfast.
Great location.
Good area. Room was converted garden shed, clad in corrugated iron, and was badly sound from adjoining room. No one at any stage introduced or identified themselves. There were no photos any where on-line of the "garden sheds". Some staff were put out if you requested an additional tea bag at breakfast. Outside area, particularly at back was uneven, unfinished, untidy. Garden furniture was rusting. We had to pass the laundry, where the door was always open and in disarray. There was no one to assist with luggage on arrival, this was a problem, particularly if you were allocated to the sheds. All in all very disappointing, and extortionate when you consider the nightly room rate for 5 nights of $285 NZ per night. As there is no on-site manager, or staff to assist on arrival, it is not fair to call this property a B & B, or a hotel. There are no air conditioners in any rooms, nor minifridges in the rooms in the main house. Would not recommend this property to anyone !!!
There is a cat at this hotel. Some of our party are allergic but they did not remove the cat
A very fun place to stay. We really enjoyed it. Convenient location.
Loved the gourmet breakfasts that are included. Rooms are a little small, but plenty adequate. Enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone interested in locating close to downtown
Very quiet night and lovely street. Characterful building. Superb location
A Great Night at the Ponsonby
This bed and breakfast was tucked away in an enjoyable part of town close to restaurants and shops, and was less than half an hour from the airport. It provided very comfortable accommodations. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we would definitely stay again.
Great location. Fantastic breakfast, welcome drinks appreciated. Lovely quiet spot, in a beautiful character building.
A Little Gem
Loved this place very comfortable and great friendly staff the cooked to order breakfast was a great start to our day. The hotel is in a nice quiet location within a couple of minutes walk to many great restaurants and shops
Close to our daughter and Ponsonby so convenient location for us. An interesting place. No issues at all. Enjoyed our room for a night.
Lovely cosy rooms. Unfortunately it was raining so I didn't get to enjoy the outside.
Lovely quiet location. Clean room. Great location. Friendly competent staff
Very friendly welcome. We were in quite a hurry to get to a show and they were very accommodating in showing us around quickly and sorting out our parking. Comfortable room. Nice to have the Eco products in use. Lovely area.
On returning home I found my room door left wide open. When I spoke with the staff member she apologised and told me no one else was there and it had been serviced and left open by mistake. Not good enough. All my possessions were left there for the taking. I was shocked at her cavalier attitude.
A real gem in a cool area
Really nice B&B, nice clean room, excellent staff and good location - cannot fault the stay, especially for the price. The area around (Ponsonby) is also really bustling and up and coming, well worth a visit!
Good place to stay on business trip. The bed needs replacing and the sheets need to be better quality.
Great atmosphere and service. Would definitely stay again.
I liked it s location, the size of the room and its artistic presentation. My room was lacking a ward robe, but did not matter this visit.
Fantastic location and lovely homely relaxed feel.
Friendly and helpful service. Great staff and a gorgeous cat made us feel at home
Full of character this delightful hotel is a homely b&b with all the amenities and attention to details you want when traveling. I had the blue room. It was spacious and had a kitchenette and lounge area. The bathroom was basic but spotless and the water was hot with high quality eco friendly shampoo etc. The breakfast was top quality and cooked to order. If you prefer privacy your room has a fully stocked minibar or if you’re feeling social there is an honesty bar in the large spacious lounge area.
Location was great. Good parking. There was t and coffee etc in our room but sadly we only found the kettle the next morning in the bathroom cupboard. This says hotel but really its an air bnb. The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything in adjoining rooms. Not good for any romance
The location is very good. A short stroll to Ponsonby Road at the eating end!! Having free parking is a huge bonus in Auckland. You can spend $30 to $40 dollars a night on top of your room rate at most inner city stays. The information booklet is very well put together. We found the eateries page very well set out. Having the walk times to various eateries is greta idea. The complimentary drink in the lounge and the honesty bar is a very welcoming feature. Staff were very friendly and accommodating.
great location. i booked the wrong day, but they fixed it no problem
They were flexible with check in and check out times. The rooms were quirky & well designed. The bed was comfortable & the staff delightful.
Great location, quiet! Lovely cozy room and easy walk to Ponsonby Rd. Love it.
Stay was excellent. Location in a nice part Of town, very quiet, but close to the main eateries and historic district. The room was large with an outside seating porch, in the common space had beautiful deck and yard as well.Would highly recommend, and stay again.
Très sympathique, accueillant, confortable... Bravo!
The location was excellent. The homely and welcoming feel
Great place!
Staff were so friendly and helpful. Place was cozy and cute. Great location. Breakfast fantastic we would definitely stay here again and recommend to others
Felt very much at home.
Relaxed and comfortable in a great part of Auckland. Lovely hosts and great breakfasts. Met some friendly travellers too. Felt very much at home. Thanks.
Very basic facilities, but when we arrived no one could speak good English.
Very well appointed B&B. Great location. Many walkable, excellent restaurants. First drink complimentary. Delicious cooked breakfast.
More like a large B&B than a hotel, it sits on a quiet street in a great Ponsonby location. The breakfast is OK. I've had better and I've had worse. The other guests were all quiet and respectful of quiet hours. There is plenty of comfortable space to relax, and the staff was very helpful and friendly.
Great location but sadly the cleaners left the room rubbish tin full of cigarette butts. Not great but especially when we requested a smoke free room.
Great B&B
Great B&B with excellent service and good position in Ponsonby.
Lovely rooms but noisy as our room by the front door and not everyone was quiet. Loved location easy walking to restaurants and bus to downtown Auckland.
Wonderful hideaway.
Great location. Peaceful residential area but easily walkable to restaurants, bars and shops. Wonderful peaceful garden and the welcome drink on arrival was appreciated. Excellent breakfast.
Quirky - every little detail thought of - fantastic breakfast.
Friendly staff, great breakfasts, great location. Beds and linens could be a notch better.
Staff friendly and remembered us from our last stay there. Nice to meet other guests while having breakfast. So quiet it didn't feel like being in city.
It was a charming property. Staff was friendly. The included breakfast was excellent, and the location was wonderful. You could walk to endless restaurants and shops a short distance from the hotel
It was advertised as a Bed & Breakfast but breakfast was actually an extra $25 per person. So, it should be called just "Bed."
Our room was at the top of 2 flights of stairs. Lucky my partner was strong enough to lift our 20kg bags. However, the room was comfortable and had a view over to the hills and was very quiet.
Funky, interesting decor - really liked it. Room was large and clean. Good location. Quiet. Good breakfast. Enjoyed our stay.
Good location. Great breakfast. Housekeeping needs a manager to check the rooms- our Blue Room was quite dusty.
We have traveled extensively and stayed in many B&Bs and our stay at ArtHotel was just fabulous. We loved every minute and met some absolutely lovely people. Would recommend it to anyone. A wonderful experience.
Home away from home
Awesome, the place was peaceful and quiet and comes with a great breakfast. was a great start to our vacation and our favorite stay
Lovely friendly hotel
In Auckland for a couple of days. Lovely quaint hotel, very friendly and helpful staff. Close to Ponsonby town centre. A short journey into the centre of Auckland.
Loved the place from the minute we walked - loved the decor, friendly and helpful staff and delicious home-cooked breakfast. Also, great location close to Ponsonby restaurants, but quiet location also for a good night’s slepp. Highly recommended.
Must be the only place in auckland you will struggle to here traffic noise at night. Nice staff, nice place, nice area. Very efficient check in and out. Amazing.
Close to Auckland town center
Very nice heritage building and quiet neighborhood
Nice friendly place to stay. Free parking and close to restaurants
Convenient location to many eating places, yet a quiet neighborhood stret off the main drag
Cosy, homely, friendly, great location, quiet street, great breakfast.
Lovely quirky hotel
Close to Restaurants and city centre, excellent breakfast
Best Little B&B in Auckland!
I thoroughly enjoyed my night's stay ...and especially was thankful for the land line telephone with free local calling. I don't use a cell phone and it's rare and appreciated by those of us who don't use one for health reasons to have access to a landline! The bed was wonderfully comfortable, and I loved the little porch where I could have my coffee in the morning. I look forward to coming back for my next trip to Auckland. My only criticism would be that the room was small, and that they wouldn't honour the same on line price I'd received form Expedia for a 2nd night, even though the room was available.

The hotel is in a beautiful large older house in the Ponsonby neighborhood. Our room was large and comfortable. It was a short walk from the hotel to a street lined with restaurants, cafes, shops and bars. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again.
