Comfortable and convenient place.
Very clean, amazing decor and furnishings, very tasteful Christmas decorations
Staff were rude
We like the underground parking
Older hotel but nicely kept, very good beds, excellent front desk staff.
For a High quality hotel, i find that it needs improvement. Coffee machine should be a Keurig instead of trying to figure out the machine. Nothing to write with or note pads to write on. No explanations in the room about the pool service. No vending machines in hotel, i was surprised that not even a bathrobe to put on after bathing. Could include a menu in the room. Just little details that would really impress people that do travel a lot in order for the hotel have customers come back.
Great beds
Close to town
Friendly and engaging staff, quiet location with old world charm decor
The Hotel was clean, centrally located and the price was reasonable. If I stay there again, I may splurge and have dinner at the on-site restaurant.
Lovely area, staff were very kind and great help! Overall great stay
The hotel is older, but very well maintained with large rooms and comfortable beds. I have stayed here several other times and I have never been disappointed. The reception was very friendly and welcoming.
Decor. Very reasonable cost
Restaurant not open for breakfast Only McD nearby. Not good for a fancy place. Also we used accessible room as I use a walker Toilet was very low.
I really enjoyed the restaurant. The food was better than anything in Vancouvers best fine dining. Shout out to the chief and the staff. As well the Nite staff at the support counter, friendly and helpful!
Clean, safe, great staff…
It is a good property. Rooms were comfortable.

Business Trip
I got into town after a long day of traveling and was greeted at reception by a lovely lady named Francine. She had a great sense of humor during check-in, making the process go by quickly and was refreshing after a long day of driving and waiting on ferries.
Good location
Clean, quiet hotel.
Clean quiet and comfortable friendly staff
Yay
Very good would recommend it again
Property was very well kept and the staff were amazing.
Clean
We had a good stay but I had to get my bed changed as there was hair in it. The people above us on the last night were very heavy walkers until late at night and early the next morning.
we had a really nice stay at The Grand. it was quiet and comfortable and i highly recommend it.
Great experience thank u
This was a great hotel for us. Quiet, clean, spacious room.
No food options and we liked the decor
The Grand Hotel Nanaimo had a dated rooms but also an old cozy feel to the hotel. The shower pressure was fantastic although the shower curtain has a tendency to be your buddy. My room faced the out front which also gave me the opportunity to keep an eye on my rental car and I did have a balcony which was kind of nice, but was rarely used.
Older and needs upkeep but safe and quiet
Enjoyed the decor and fell of the lobby, bar and dining room. Wood and brass added to the period look of the hotel. Beds very comfortable - had a good nights rest with no aches in the morning - always appreciated at age 74. LoL
The hotel is clean and quiet, beds are comfortable, we got our room upgraded which is a surprise. The elevator door has some issues to close, so we use stairs instead. Not suggest for families with kids, since no yard space to stay or play, and lobby has old displays/decorations everywhere.
Did not like having no info in the room, like options for eating or how to use the TV. I am hard of hearing and any strong accent makes it hard for me to understand what is being said to me. Check-in was therefore difficult. The hotel itself was like a walk in history. Very unique environment. Felt very safe.
Quick and friendly check in.
The room was clean and spacious. The staff were helpful and kind. There’s a beautiful garden out back with figs, grapes, and much more. This place is a special find with wonderful character. I can’t wait to go back!
Fire alarm went off around midnight. There was NO staff at all to direct the hotel guest. Hotel guest had to call the local fire department. Hotel guest were standing outside for at least 20 minutes without any information. In the end the fire fighter told me it was a faulty board that triggered the alarm. This Hotel was run down and outdated. The elevator door had a hard time closing. I had to hold the close button to get it to fully close. I would NOT recommend this Hotel.
Clean & secure. Quiet over decorated for my taste - simplifying would look more classy.
Nice hotel. Actually feels like a hotel.
A great hotel in a good location. The staff was very friendly and helpful and they had a great lounge to relax in after a busy day. We especially loved the eclectic style the place was decorated in. We will definitely be back.
Great staff
Desk clerk was not very helpful and barely spoke English.
Wonderful stay Great management team and staff Will come back soon Cheers
Staff at front desk excellent. Very clean and organized, good location.
A little expensive but nice
Caught the late ferry and needed somewhere to stay last minute and saw that there were deluxe rooms available so i booked one. When I arrived I was behind a line of three groups of guests all checking in. No big deal. When I get to the front of the line the front desk host was a little unfriendly and as I was paying my 200$ deposit he looked down his glasses at me and told me if i smoke in the room i will be charged 200$ which he didnt feel the need to say to any of the other paying guests in front of me. I told him thats fine I dont smoke and proceeded to my room. The main feature that helped me decide on this hotel was the soaker tub because after a long day of travelling and paying 300$ for an 10 hour stay in a hotel, I wanted to relax and enjoy that one amenity. When I got to my room I went straight to the bathroom to start the tub and the bathroom door only opened halfway because it got caught on the tile floor. The tile floor itself was very uneven and cracking, showing signs of either poor finishing or issues in the subfloor below. Once i filled the tub to my utmost dissapointment the jets did not work in the tub. I also requested a late check out when I booked and was informed my check out time was to be 11. As someone who has worked hospitality for years, I was dissapointed in the value I got at this hotel. Maybe other people really like this place but for 300$ a night, I think ill go stay somewhere by the waterfront next time instead. Hopefully this review helps som
Room 20 years out of date floor was so broken up under carpet was like throwing you towel over rocks on the beach and walking on it
Old and worn but still has some charm
To pricy. Rooms outdated
Comfortable bed and big bathroom
Very thorough and friendly.
Very nice place to stay
Great hotel
While clean, property is quite outdated. Flooring (carpet and tile) badly need replacing, at least in our suite.
Wonderful
Na
Pictures are much better than the rooms. The gym is not at all a gym. Old stationary bike and tred mile. Not machines. I small rack of bumbles to 20lbs.
Good location. Hallways & rooms smelled musty, maybe the carpets. The carpet in our room was lumpy like there was gravel under it when walking around. Went to go for breakfast, nothing here. Managed to find coffee in lobby. It was like a ghost town in the lobby at 10am. No music, kind of dark & dreary. Felt like the place was closed. Wife found spiders on bed….
The staff were very friendly. Our beds were really comfortable with clean crisp linens. The room and bathroom were clean with everything we needed. The hotel was quiet but could really use some updating.
We’ll maintained and convenient location.
Nice place but strange floor under the carpet, it was like walking on marbles all night?
Lovely hotel . Friendly staff
Very friendly staff
I have stayed here a couple times and been satisfied each time! The rooms are a little dated, and the jets in the jacuzzi tub are broken, other than that the rooms are clean enough this last stay the room wasn't as clean as the previous time (dirty carpet, hair in the shower). We went and tried the whiskey bar, which had an amazing selection, and very knowledgeable staff, but be warmed there is no AC and no fans, and on a 28° day, it was so stuffy we ended up leaving due to the heat (even though we would have loved to stay longer).
The hotel was nice when entering. Whisky bar was different and a nice touch. Room was in dire need of renovation and smelled terrible
Great location. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed on Mondays. The room was comfortable but there was a very uneven floor in our room.
I enjoyed my stay with this property. The bed was ah-mazing! So comfortable. I did find the pillows not so great, and the decor was dated, but, overall a good venue in a very good location.
Needs updating
Floors a lumpy and need to be replaced as they’re tripping hazards. Coffee pot and pot dirty and had to ask for replacement. Replacement had a cracked carafe.
The room was clean. Towels in the bathroom were fluffy. It was a quiet location. The decor in the lobby was rather dated, but not objectionable. The only odd thing was the floor in the room, it was very lumpy under the carpet; with dips and hills that were noticeable when you walked from one side of the room to the other.
no breakfast available unfortunately
The room was not well maintained. Carpet was all lumpy and fixtures not installed well. Lobby was deserted. Friendly staff couldn't overcome the other issues.
Perfect for a stop over to catch an early morning ferry
Spacious with an odd layout but nice.
Spacious room with the best hotel shower we have had in a long time. An older hotel but clean and well maintained but a very odd layout on the room with lighting and furniture in odd spots. We moved the sitting area so we could move around the room and had to move the coffee station to where there was light to make coffee in the morning… but we Very Much appreciated the coffee in the room. Too, we appreciate the individual soaps and shampoos instead of a dispenser on a wall.
The staff were friendly rooms were very large and clean
Room was rundown- Walls hadn’t been wiped down. Floor was uneven throughout the room. There were no ice machines on floors or public area - had to ask front desk to fill ice from bar which was inconvenient. Was close to the athletic event I was in town for but I don’t think I would stay more than one night here.
The beds were very comfortable nice big rooms. Lots of space parking was easy and they also had underground parking if you wanted to.
Happy traveller
I have stayed at this hotel in previous years and have always enjoyed my stay. The staff are great and the location is very accessible.
Very nice and comfortable hotel. Staff are friendly
Nothing
The property is older, but nicely maintained. The staff are lovely. We stay there every time we are in Nanaimo. It's adorable. Its affordable. Close to our friends home and central location
The Grand Hotel is a beautiful hotel. The staff were polite and helpful
The rooms and everything in them are dated. Like 30 yr old dated. The floor in my room is extremely lumpy (its very disconcerting), a google review told me the contrete underneath the carpet cracked due to blasting nearby. But the hotel just left it. Makes me question whatelse they "just left". The area is good but I would not stay here again.
Cool front lobby and room. Charming feel to the place. Great shampoos—peppermint scented.
Lovely quiet hotel. Older but still well cared for. Really appreciated the higher end amenities at a very reasonable price.
Great location, nice rooms
Excellent hotel and reasonably priced. No breakfast available onsite.
What I didn’t like was I could not turn the fireplace on or use the jets in the bathtub.
Was nice and quiet, bed was really comfortable...
Uneven floors, dated rooms, you definitely get what you pay for.
Extremely good value; welcoming and friendly, helpful staff
Our client loved the quirkiness of the decor and she said the staff were very helpful.
I appreciated the friendly staff, quiet comfortable rooms, and free gated self parking. I also loved the location for its ease to get to and the hotel was exceptionalsellerally ckean.
Staff is great. Also, if you get a chance check out their restaurant and whiskey bar :). I really enjoyed it.
Loved the entrance the antiques. Beautiful
Loved the room, comfortable beds, spacious rooms with fireplace, gated parking, and close to amenities.
Clean rooms and helpful staff
Hotel is nice, friendly staff, very accommodating, only thing is that pool was advertised on website and they don’t have a pool anymore
This is basic!!! That’s ok, but the beds are very uncomfortable, the sheets are just ok and the pillows are terrible
