It was ok
Lovely old villa with amazing rooms in it, but the beds could have been less creeky and more comfortable.
Service was great
the host was very gracious. made sure we were happy with rooms and service. rooms were nice. would stay there again.
Good place to dining and safe area. Clean and convenient
Colonial
Loved the building - colonial style house. Very quiet off the street. Room was huge with lots of windows. Beautiful flooring. Wifi was slow. Staff don’t start until 9:30 am, but very helpful.
Nice quiet location, handy to shopping, eateries etc. Plenty of safe on site parking. Comfortable bed, good hot shower. Only negatives, fridge in room a bit useless and Wifi patchy I would stay there again
Good value for money. Good location - helpful staff
Not like the photos
The hotel looks nothing like the photos, very run down but the owners were so welcoming, the breakfast area was stocked with unused furniture.
Wasn't ready when we arrived. For a deluxe room it was very poor. Not clean, smelled of urine, cobwebs and dust. TV, very basic channels. If we could have found somewhere else we would have moved
Did not get the room i booked or payed for was told only two of us so no need to give me room i payed for or refund..instead of larger room with two beds i got standard small room with one bed .
Egyptian motif was interesting and staff were lovely and it was very clean
Great property, close to everything we need for our stay in Auckland
I had an amazing stay the staff were lovely, room was clean bed was super comfortable
This was good for our overnight stop. Staff at reception was helpful and friendly.
Character & good parking
Beautiful place. Rooms are big. Clean. No kitchenette but has basic kitchen supplies. Easy check in.
Adequate for what we needed. Room was quiet enough and once the heater was going it warmed up ok. Happy with the room for one night. Very dusty under the bed!!!!
The property is lovely and the service was great. We had a really pleasant stay and it was nice and close to various places to walk to. Walked into NewMarket for dinner, planned to walk to Remuera for breakfast. And the domain is just past New Market, so plenty of things to walk to.
quiet, clean, close enough to CBD
Good Location for what we were doing in the Area
Good value for money! Lovely staff, very responsive, helpful and kind, we enjoyed our stay. Building due for a reno and rooms need update but for the price it is great value. Thanks for the great experience ☺️
Very handy to the place I had to visit
The property has a lot of character and charm, rather than the typical cookie cutter hotel accomodation.
Price wise - good. Online said breakfast was available, on arrival - no. The little refrigerator was on the floor and the room heater did not work.
Not your traditional corporate hotel which is why I love this place. Feels like home away from home
I did get a budget room so can't complain too much. The room was clean. Couldn't use the TV as there was no remote but I used my tablet and their Wifi. It was really close to train and bus so that was great. But...the walls were thin and what was going on next door was a bit disturbing. I would stay there again as it's in such a convenient place and reasonably priced but you can't expect too much from this place.
Great place, awesome location
As well as being walkable for most of the appointments I had in the area, the room itself had everything I needed and staff were very responsive and accommodating -- which made everything super-easy.
Very comfortable, homely feel and kind hosts
It was nice and quiet. The property is a bit tired.
For a last minute booking it was a great place to stay, close to shops & supermarket, clean & tidy
My room was small, fine for one or two nights, but not more. The TV was small, with limited channels available. The fridge was tiny. A microwave would have been good. On the other hand the room was very clean. The hotel's location is very good for access to Newmarket, the Remuera shops and the motorways.
A great location, clean and tidy rooms, comfortable beds and great price.
Loved the building.
Very basic accomodation but very clean apart from the strange marks on the wall above the head board….like something had dripped down and not been wiped off. The tv was very small and in an awkward place to watch from the bed which was the only place you could watch it from…if you lay down on the bed, the tv disappeared from view….needs a higher table to put it on.
No daily room service, nearly ran out of loo rolls. Need flannels, dish cloth/brush.
A grand old house. I think the good reviews must be from when it had other management who were often absent and not very attentive when they were there. Huge room, great location and lots of off-street parking helped though . The cleaning wasn’t great. Wouldn’t stay there again.
Good property for regular stays
Really good stay and great service
We have stayed here several times as near family and have always been happy
Nil
Easy place to find, lovely staff
We've stayed here a few times and the place has definitely declined: in cleanliness and the parking is tight. No aircon, just nets over the bathroom window. A definite feel that it's past its best. We wished we stayed at Ibis.
Affordable, quiet, clean - very pleasant overall
Loved it here. Very quiet and chill. Plenty of walkable restaurants and bus stops
The room was not clean, while the bathroom was OK, the other rooms were dusty with cobwebs. There is mildew on the curtains and ceiling, the bedding feels damp and the rooms smell stale. There is cheap and cheerful and then there is this property tired and grubby
Cute and quite
I liked the rusting look of the room but would like to have a kind of little kitchen bench and for example, toster.
We were very happy with our room, affordable, sunny. Fresh, absolute gorgeous.
Photo’s of the studio’s online do not show how sad they look and what a sad view there is, on a wall. The studio wasn’t clean, I picked up hair and empty strip of medication. There was probably more but I closed the curtain not to see the poor view, so it was a bit dark. Internet was bad, no person at the checkout. Hotel looks lovely on the photo, but that is only on the photo.
Staff unfriendly Bathroom not clean Noisy at night No cutlery
The room was made to look clean but actually wasn’t
It was a good stay, a nice warm comfortable room and bed and bathroom with kitchen at a reasonable price, we will definitely be back to stay.
The last stay was really good (an outside room) but this time it was in the house, had a musky odour, and the bathroom was in a closet. Just a bit disappointed after last time but the service was really good
Convenient for our conference attendance and restaurants.
Good location
The room was very clean and the service was friendly
We've stayed here several times, and enjoy the character and charm of this historic building. Its handy to motorway access, staff are friendly and helpful too.
good
A great property, central to different dinning and shopping options. Quiet. Clean.
I booked for two nights and found the condition of the hotel to be significantly below that shown in the photos, specifically: - My allocated room was different from the one noted on my guest details form, and although both were of the same 'class', this felt like a downgrade; - Neither the main front door lock nor the room door lock was sturdy; - Keys ostensibly open the allocated room door and the front door only, but I am not convinced this is the case; - My locked room door was unlocked when I woke up; - Base of the mattress was moldy; - There were mold and other stains on the walls, ceilings, and door; - Shower door did not open smoothly; - Toilet flush was also stuck and had to be pressed with force; - Bathroom tap was loose; - Two power sockets were loose and not properly attached to the wall; - A brown liquid leaked out from the base of the kettle when it boiled; - Something around the bed smelled singed, but I was unable to identify what; - A near-empty bottle left behind by a previous guest was still in the room; - I pulled out a strand of long hair (not my color) from the blanket on the bed; - WiFi did not work; - Walls were not soundproof; - There was limited furniture on which to put things; and - Furnishings/fixtures were tired and poorly maintained. The photos online appear to be from when the hotel was newer. Given the above, I left after the first night. The receptionist did not bat an eyelid; it appears this is a common occurrence.
The facilities are bad and having to ask for glasses
Cozy
Historic property, spacious, great situation and good parking facilitiies
Historic property. Lots of space. Comfortable Handy if driving to centre
Handy location to airport and city and has off street parking. Handy if you just want a short stay and you have a car. The hotel is a bit rundown though and could do with a bit better cleaning.
Not worth for amount of oaid
Très sympathique hôtel de charme, chambre propre et spacieuse. Personnel très agréable. Seul point négatif, le wifi ne fonctionnait pas lors de mon séjour.
The room was clean and tidy, however there was an overall musty damp smell. When it rained the bathroom would leak and the floor and toilet paper were completely soaked. You get what you pay for, very cheap for Auckland so very average.
Handy to shops. Cleaning could be better as long black hair in shower and bathroom. Otherwise value for money.
Probably the worst place I have ever stayed. Very small, tired room. Please don't put yourself through the pain of staying here and find somewhere else.
It was a very lovely hotel with character .. old but lovely.. however says in the website there is laundry but when we asked at reception says none. But overall the hotel is very nice clean good locAtion staff are friendly would stay again
We had two stays booked in advance; one for 7 days in a separate "family" two roomed building at the rear of the main and the second for two days in the main building. the first experience was disappointing due to the state of the property,,curtains needed cleaning, sash windows not working properly, shower not draining efficiently, inadequate cooling fans (no aircon). Second stay in a very large room also had the problem of faulty sash windows which made ventilation difficult, poor lighting (only one of five globes on the main light working). Also no aircon. The host was friendly and helpful but seems to be under pressure with staff resources. The building has period charm but is in need of serious money being spent to bring it up to a fitting standard in line with current rates. The location is superb but traffic congestion on the main road (Remuera) will prove challenging at times for access to the property and on departure. Parking is adequate but squeazy.
Large, clean, pleasant, historic room with all of the necessities for a comfortable short stay. It has ample free parking with narrow access with limited signage.
it nice and cuirt
Mmmmm, yeah, na.
Had hardly any sleep first night as walls/ceiling seemed paper thin and the ‘government housing’ tenants in the hotel were using power tools and moving (making?) furniture until 2am. Room didn’t get serviced either day. Has to go to reception for towels and to ask to get out overflowing (tiny) rubbish bin emptied. We accidentally locked ourselves out of the room at 8pm (our fault!) but there was not a single spare key on the property. Manager had to drive in from over an hour away to bring a spare key to the room. Weird! What motel only has one key and one spare key?!? Staff were friendly enough but it seemed like they’d either only just bought the place and were figuring it all out, or they were inept. We won’t be back unfortunately.
Looks like a historical building in a convenient part of Auckland
Very central good location It is older so not as easy to keep clean Friendly staff though
Unclean
Nice old cottage with massive rooms
It’s an old and beautiful house with a character. We like it. The price is very reasonable.
I really liked the design and style of the hotel, very homely, warm, and old school. The amenities was good and the bed was comfortable. The hotel was well priced and did the trick. Only major negative was the hotel didn’t maintain the room on our 2nd day despite leaving the room at 10.30am and having the house keeping sign on the room door. Similar to other reviews, I think the hotel would benefit from general maintenance, for example, the seal on the shower door was weak.
Warm and comfortable, nice communication with staff, thanks
Beautiful well maintained building
Very friendly, helpful, save and clean
Helpful friendly host. Comfortable and a lovely ambience.
the lovely person at reception very helpful
?
A bit hard to find
It was a beautiful building. With a few improvements it could be an amazing experience.
Really like to inside the building. Its looks really nice
Style.
Photos of the rooms look much better than the actual room. Arriving was a big disappointment
We were up graded to a larger room and were very comfortable.
Had a very comfortable stay in this hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room had everything I needed. Nice and close to the local shops and a short walk to the train station. The historic building is quite charming though my room was in need of a spruce up. All in all, it was good value for money.
Great service in arranging for me to gain access late at night. Shower was cold!
I think they should have hand wash in bathroom
It’s quiet easy parking close to the city

The photos online look nothing like the room we got, there was mold on the ceiling and in the shower, the gardens we had to walk past around the back of the building to our "suite" were full of weeds. Everything is rundown and not at all inviting. Also there are people living there permanently which is never a good sign.
