The Convent Hotel is a lovely place to stay while visiting Auckland. It is away from the hassle and bustle of downtown, yet convenient. The only downside is that it is not in the sexiest part of Auckland. You need to take an Uber or taxi to get to some of the more fashionable neighborhoods.
I like boutique hotels....lots if charm and taste with Convent...but just a little too far from city
We loved our stay here! Staff were all so friendly and helpful. The place is such a vibe and so unique. Will be staying here again when we’re back in Auckland!
Unique type of hotel for us. Change of pace, which is always refreshing.
My Auckland go-to. The aesthetics are gorgeous, I love the incredible on-site dining, and really appreciate the ease of car parking.
The room was comfortable and clean. It was a lillte noisy until 10 PM as we were right beside the restaurant. Dining options in the area were scarce.
"Blessful" experience Convent and its neighborbood
location is excellent i.e. close to a stop of a frequent public "double decker" bus accepting credit card and max 18 min ride to the harbor center in downtown and a stop close the art museum. First Grab breakfast at the POSTAL SERVICE original site on same street of CONVENT HOTEL, 5 min WALK.
Great location for Eden Park
Stay at this hotel to attend a concert at Eden Park. Close enough to walk. Comfortable beds. We had the mother superior suite which had a seperate bedroom and an additional queen bed in the living area. Decent size room, clean and good quality linen etc,
Done so beautifully!
A great ‘era hotel’ that captures its pedigree as a convent so beautifully. Wonderful mix of a past era and modern touches. Fantastic staff. Loved it and will definitely book here again. An easy 15-20min walk to Eden Park for the Coldplay concert too!
On the confirmation they advised that we would receive a welcome gift at the hotel. They advised that this stopped a month ago. The booking also said free parking. But when we arrived they said you have to pre book in advance.Clean Hotel not many amenities in the room
We arrived before check-in, the staff were very accommodating, let us store our luggage and had our room ready for us within an hour. Our room was beautiful, clean and very quiet despite having a terrace overlooking the street and a kitchen/bar within the hotel. We definitely enjoyed our evening there!
My choice when in Auckland for business or pleasure
Unique setting with some of the original artwork either original or restored very nicely. We stayed in #10. Nice to have a balcony. Parking in back was limited. We ended up parking on the street the 2nd day. Plenty of room there though. Very nice stay and nice staff.
Enjoyed our stay!
Super stylish and comfortable. loved it!
Has a serene feeling about it.
Lovely property but very expensive for size and location.
Disappointed in our stay. Reception was unfriendly upon arriving. Our room was located right next to reception (sharing a wall) and across from restaurant and bar seating. We contemplated on even staying here right after check in. Loud noise of people talking and stomping until midnight. Reception was closed so we couldn’t do anything about it. Didn’t get much sleep and the lady at reception was again, not very friendly. Would not stay here again.

Beautiful stay recommend to anyone
The renovation has been great. The art is brilliant. The room, with the stark concrete walls and high ceilings was SO cold. Even with the heater on film we had to climb into bed to get warm. When we called down to the desk about the temperature they turned the central heating on. I have spoken to a friend who also stayed here and she felt it was bitterly cold too. I’d like to try the place again in summer. The balconies were lovely, the room well appointed.
Gorgeous hotel, felt more luxe than a standard hotel. Room was quite small, but all the fittings and bedding etc are high spec and lovely. We had breakfast at the restaurant which was great.
Wonderful place to stay
Our reserved park was taken so we parked in the disability park.
Just an overnight. Wish it was longer. Great boutique hotel. Cute rooms. Good size and decor.
Loved the unique quirkiness of the design. Did not like the bed or all the metal furniture as it was very noisy
Fantastic boutique hotel! We came from Philadelphia, USA, and have already decided we will be traveling the 8,700 miles to stay at the Convent Hotel again. The chapel room had a garden wall that made the room always smell like flowers. The staff were extremely kind, inclusive, and accommodating. The Ada restaurant had the best breakfast I’ve ever had, and the best dinners that we had in our 5 days in Auckland. Parking and internet are included, and it was a decent walking distance to great food and attractions.
Value for money
Awesome amazing, staff is super friendly
Great boutique hotel, in a good location, some nice room features, but fell a little short in a couple of areas. 1. The room clearly hadn't been dusted in a while there was a thick layer of dust on all the bathroom fixtures/mirrors etc. 2. Not everyone loves a rainfall shower, need option of a standard shower head 3. Lighting, why does the bathroom have to be so dark I could barely see to shave.
A very special place w/very good restaurant/bar.
Turistas at the Nunnery!
We loved the Convent Hotel! Very creative, comfortable and funky! Who ever redesigned and updated the space did a magnificent job! Leaving the structure of the building and bringing its layers and history to life and making it a fun, and different experience boutique hotel! It’s not in city center but a doable walk or a short cab ride away. The restaurant was also d’lish! Thanks Abby for your friendliness and suggestions…we really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it.
The story of the Convent is unique and the development of the building superb. Great experience will.stay agai
Easy to find and drive to; quiet; comfortable.
What a charming, unique place to stay. I loved it!! We have already rebooked here for later in the year.
Clean place with a nice shower and a comfortable bed. In my opinion, the room we were staying in (room #2) should not be used for guests. The windows don’t have the ability to open and it’s street facing which means people coming up the stairs to the hotel will directly see you if your changing etc. The room shares a wall with the bar in the hotel which plays music until at least 10pm. Staff were heard until about 11pm (maybe later). The restaurant in the hotel was very tasty! Overall, I was pretty bummed with my stay here.
The location is great, and a beautiful hotel . The staff service is poor though- the receptionist was talking really loud at reception with her friends late on a Sunday evening, her friends parked at the door/driveway so we couldn’t use the driveway. Noise travels a lot. We probably wouldn’t stay again- for the price, the service is lacking/ made us a little uncomfortable.
A very romantic hotel in Grey Lynn and a lovely walk to Ponsonby. The upstairs room was pretty small but nice and quiet. The downstairs room number 2 is more spacious but very noisy. I would choose a smaller room upstairs and have a nice sleep.
Restaurant wasnt good
Beautiful Art Hotel
Our stay was fantastic. The room is beautiful, well appointed and filled with art. We loved the atmosphere and the neighborhood. Make sure to get coffee at Better Me espresso and donuts from Doe just up the road.
The hotel iteself is so beautiful, the art work and interiors really cool. Unfortunately the service was very poor. For a boutique hotel we were looking forward to a personal touch. It was our wedding night which we advised the staff of several times. Not one special touch added to congratulate us. We didn’t even have bottle of water and included in the room and had to drink water from the toilet sink tap. We had to request other items that should be available in the room. For the price per night, we were very disappointed.
What a wonderful place to stay! We loved the playful art on the walls, and the overall vibe of the place. The bed was super comfy and the shower pressure was great! We had a late check-in, with very easy to follow instructions on how to get in and where to find our key. Overall, very happy with our stay.
Can't recommend The Convent Hotel enough!
We were really looking for a nice hotel that had easy access for parking, but go so much more! The Convent Hotel is a small boutique hotel that doesn't let its quirkiness get in the way of practicality. The decoration is playful with the building's history (I'm not sure the nuns would approve). It's well located in Grey Lynn, and while they don't offer breakfast, great cafés like Postal Service just a few minutes away. Ponsonby is about 20 minutes or so walk, and there are bus stops just outside for easy access into the CBD and beyond. We had one of the smaller rooms with a balcony. The balcony looks onto the flats next door, but curtains on the area itself, as well as blind on the windows, mean you have as much privacy as you could want but still get to enjoy the extra space. The room didn't feel too tight with the comfortable bed, decent size wardrobe. The bathroom, with shower, feels quite ample for a room this size. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, as are the team at the bar and Ada restaurant downstairs, which I'd recommend as well. Say hello to their cat, appropriately named Carpark, if you go!
Great unique property. Friendly staff who gave us advice about the area and public transport. Very popular restaurant attached to the hotel, however there is no breakfast service. Awesome cafe only 5 minutes down the road and buses straight into the cbd.
This is a unique place to stay and we booked the suite, which is large, beautiful and bright, expensive finishings and lovely art, well-stocked kitchen.
A great atmosphere, as soon as you walk in.
We really liked the atmosphere. It was like visiting an art gallery. We could easily imagine being in Europe. The restaurant food was stunning. The little bar was a great place to begin the evening.
Unfortunately we were located next to the very busy and very noisy restaurant, which stayed open until almost midnight. The following morning was generally noisy also, so not a restful stay.
Great stay! Drinks at the bar were wonderful. Was a bit loud when dinner service running but when you close the second door in the room, it was very quiet! Thanks for the great stay!
Great spot to stay, lots of character
Love the style, really comfortable, perfect location for us and good value. Only potential negative was it was a bit noisy in the morning. Would definitely stay there again.
Nice & comfortable stay here. Fans are quite loud in the bathroom but do go off after a few minutes.
The Convent offers a cool, minimalist accommodation option. Great restaurant on the premises, but be sure to book a table, it is popular.
We loved the hotel. very friendly and helpful with interesting and attractive decor. Loved the bathroom, especially the straightforward and hot shower! The atmosphere was very special, the feel of the old convent beautifully retained.
Receptionist was extremely accomodating and friendly which was a blessing as I was exhausted when I arrived.
very good location and accommodation.
Great place to stay. I was upstairs but friends downstairs said the restaurant was very noisy
The best hotel in Auckland for the price! Second to none. Beautiful styled, amazing furnishings, great service. Couldn’t be bettter
Thought the property was unique and quaint and had a lovely point of difference. My husband found the rooms too small however. But on the whole, we had a great stay and it served our purposes wonderfully.
Had a great room and the hotel was amazing! However with the restaurant next door people tried to open my door couple times thinking it’s the toilets. Very uneasy when staying in a hotel and trying to just have a quiet night. Also the sound from the restaurant carries quite well so make sure to ask about this in different rooms
Awesome place
i liked the history of the hotel.
Very nice stay
Charming boutique hotel - very much recommend to others.
A heavenly place to stay. Beatifully restored building, with clean, modern and comfortable amenities. Loved the original artifacts and art as well. Really easy to check in and friendly helpful staff. A1.
Unfortunately our room being at door was incredibly noisy. I would stay again but request room upstairs or away from bar/restaurant and front door !
A fantastic place to stay with very helpful staff. Note that the restaurant can be very noisy, and would’ve been perfect if the restaurant hadn’t run out of coffee beans.
Really lovely boutique hotel, with very comfortable beds. Definitely recommend! Would've been fab to have a grab n go/coffee kind of breakfast offering on site but otherwise has everything you need.
loved this place. funky decor mixed with luxurious bedding. can’t wait to stay again.
A very friendly and enjoyable stay.
Great Hotel, wonderful staff.
Quaint comfortable room beautifully decorated loved the small outside court yard. The restaurant food was beautiful wines very overpriced
We stayed 2 nights here and loved the funky shabby chic decor of this property - in that respect it was perfect. It was beautifully presented and clean, comfortable, great sheets on the beds which were also very comfortable. Hard to fault. However, our room was over the restaurant (Ada) & kitchen (it actually overlooked a kind of courtyard area which was the dining room), so we got a bit of noise from that which didn’t finish until the kitchen was all cleaned up. That said, we could look down on the diners - the meals looked delicious and everyone seemed to have cleaned their plates! Also, because there is no air conditioning we had to sleep with the window open so also got people noise from the carpark & nearby motorway, plus sensor lights in the carpark turning on & off (we had the blind up a little to let some air in). As a result we had interrupted sleep. Would stay again but not in that room & would definitely try the restaurant. And just another thing - the back staircase is very narrow & not easy to go up/down with bags and the back door to the car park is quite stiff and heavy which is difficult with luggage.
Top quality everything!!
This is the best place we’ve stayed in in Auckland. Can’t fault it.
