I liked how it was close to BART like a 4-5 min walking distance. Along with how inexpensive it was, about $65-70 night within a package deal. Hotel was very minimalist, which is what I wanted, the card security added an extra layer of security since you couldn't get in unless you had a room key.

You can hear doors banging shut all hours. Television broken- never fixed. Offered to move me at 9pm (4hours after Id complained). Were pretty responsive via text. Elevator down when trying to check out- on the 7th floor. They did send someone to help with luggage. Location was convenient to lots of food and shopping. Reasonable price and was clean.

Can't open the window and sleep.....

The room does not have AC, and opening the window at night isn't a great option due to the noise from outside. Two pubs stay open until 3am, attracting lively crowds, while garbage and recycling trucks make their rounds every night. Expect to hear loud lifting machinery and the clinking of broken glass from the recycling process, making the area quite noisy after dark.

We were never notified that the check in desk was at the Stratford Hotel, down the street, around the corner, and up a hill. Having to drag luggage to the check in desk, wait in a long line for one person to check in two hotels, then drag luggage back to Bartley was terrible. Don’t stay here if you’re looking for convenient check in or acceptable service

Very noisy, the windows did not isolate any noise from outside so I could hear music from bars, homeless people yelling, and cars all night. The whole hotel needed maintenance. Walls had holes in them, the elevator made concerning noises. There were no additional blankets in the room and it was a bit cold. Towels in the bathroom had holes in them. Water pressure was super low. There was never staff at the desk. I would discourage anyone from staying here.

If you're looking for a place to spend the night with no frills, I can recommend the Bartlett. The room was clean, the mattress firm, and an iron and blow dryer were in the closet. The room temperature was comfortable but there was no thermostat. I did miss having a washcloth for my face, but that's minor.

The surrounding area is very nice. There are tons of restaurants. The hotel itself had a good vibe.

Price=decent( specially if your on a budget). Location= excellent ( near the tourist spots, walgreens, burger king, basic necessities of a traveler). Staff= excellent( very friendly and helpful). The room we got doesnt have ac but if you open the window and turn off heater, it is comfortable. It has a kitchen and laundry that guests can use, but I only wish that water dispenser is more accesible after 11pm, they lock the laundry and kitchen so no water to drink after 11pm. Plus, hot water doesnt work either. Hoping they find a place to put the dispenser accessible in case guest runs out of drinking water.

I stayed here for about a week, and overall, it was a pleasant and comfortable experience. However, if you’re expecting more, you might want to consider a pricier hotel. The location is decent, situated in the outer Tenderloin area (which, according to ChatGPT, is an area to avoid when visiting SF). There are quite a few homeless individuals in the alley behind the hotel, but the front side is very strategic—close to downtown and public transportation. My advice is to avoid walking around the back alley as it can be a bit uncomfortable (for me, it was very uncomfortable). That said, the hotel itself is okay, and the area in front is quite good overall.

Lovely hotel

The sheets was never changed for the whole stay Same for towels..No room service so thats a terrible !!

Only 2 bath towels, no was cloths or hand towels. Room was very hot. Had to leave un screened windows open all night to cool room. TV didn't work initially but was resolved by maintenance. Rosemary of the Strafford was awesome once again. Thanks Rosemary for smiling and making me feel welcomed. -Anthony Zinn.

Hallways are a bit tired but rooms are clean and functional. Location is very central.

Location is good, right on the union suqare. Small rooms, for checking in you've to go to sister hotel Stratford. You've to pay extra for house keeping. But overall a nice experience on a budget.

Bartlett is basic but comfortable and well run. I would stay there again.

Bartlett is a basic hotel, but a comfortable and clean one. It is a fine place to rest your head and sleep soundly in San Francisco.

Good rate for a very centrally located hotel but you do get what you pay for. Intermittent plumbing and elevator issues, no in unit fridges or really anything but bed desk and bathroom. Would stay again but probably not more than a few nights.

Choked in at 830 am early check in with great lady Thursday morning after running out of a Hole called The European. Only flaw of The Bartlett was low water pressure, but great Bang for your Buck.

Better than you think

I booked this on the basis of price. I was expecting a sub-par experience. I was very pleasantly surprised. Great rate in the heart of San Francisco. I was warned about the homeless problems in this area and while there was a bit of that, it was small in comparison to store owners cleaning the sidewalks in front of their stores. The room was small, for sure. But it had every basic that I needed. Also, the room was clean.

Good location, close to transport/cable. There’s not a fridge in every room, you can ask based on availability. Apart from that a good hotel.

Perfect for the price. They don’t clean your room daily. The front desk is only staffed on weekends, but they have someone at a nearby hotel that can take care of things. Very clean. Very quiet.

Had a great time sleeping here. The room was clean but the building was pretty old and a bit dirty. There were many homeless people around the area but they kept to themselves and respectfully asked for money. I would stay here again.

No frills, check in and front desk staff located in nearby hotel. Building is early 1900s, but with updates to important things like beds, bathroom fixtures. I liked the retro ambience and attention to the important stuff. Location is both good and bad: right near both the best and the worst of SF. This place won't suit everyone, but it's great value and I would be very happy to stay here again.

Stay here for the location, not the amenities

Book a room with its own bathroom, otherwise you will share a bathroom and shower with everyone else on the same floor! We were lucky enough to book one with our own en-suite bathroom. It had no hand towels or wash rags, just 2 bath towels and a bath floor towel/mat. The safe was locked and would not work. Maid service/turndown was not offered without booking it a day ahead and they charge $50 for this (ridiculous and predatory). Their 1 elevator was very slow and rickety, did not have faith in it being maintained recently. Would have taken the stairs if we weren’t on the 7th floor. The lobby looks like it was supposed to have amenities, but it was stripped down to just a few couches. Hard to reach the front desk if they are not attending it as they must buzz both doors 24/7 to let you in to speak with them if you do not have a room key. Saw multiple groups just sitting outside waiting for 10+ minutes at times for someone to answer the door bell/buzzer. Our room had a window that opened to a fire escape, the hallway outside our room had a window they’d leave open that also connected to the same fire escape (the room across the hall had a window that opened to the same connected fire escape as well). Was a little worried at night when we’d leave the window open that someone could come in from that connected fire escape. Only pluses to staying here is location and the bar/restaurant next door downstairs

Great location

This felt like the hotel equivalency of a ‘ghost kitchen.’ To check in, you need to go to a hotel around the block, and neither this hotel nor the other hotel have a way to hold onto bags before check in. During my stay I received emails/texts about the stay, two of which included “contact information” where the actual info had been left out of the communication. For example, I got an email that literally said “please don’t hesitate to call us at xxx-xxx-xxxx” and another one that said “you can email us at —-@————-.—-“ The whole experience was extremely impersonal, the amenities weren’t great, and it was very odd overall. Not worth the price at all.

Greeted by a locked front door that another guest who had key couldn’t open either. Had to go in through the bar only to be greeted by another locked door beyond which we could see an unmanned front desk. Found out from the other guest that I had register at The Stratford two blocks away. That was very slow as one employee was training. Ther was no room cleaning between my two days and never saw a staff person there. Other than that, the room was decent, with new bath fixtures, desk and fine bed. Great location and great price. And the bar is actually a good brewpub with first beer on the house for hotel guests.

It was the perfect low frills, low cost hotel for our conference at the Moscone center. Very easy walk to the convention center, surrounded by great Asian cuisine.

They don't have a full service desk that you have contact all the time. Be careful some of the rooms does not have shower or washroom in them. The hotel condition is decent but it is old and wear and tear. My room was facing the street which had a good view however the windows were not blocking the noise at all even though I was on the 6th floor. A homeless guy was moaning and making noise all night and did not let me sleep until 4am. Also I felt like I am sleeping on the side of road (because of car passing noise overnight).

Excellent hotel for the price and area, centered on everything downtown, common transportation very close all around, pubs... Everything in good condition and only thing I could say is the lack of clear answer about my late checkout, but that was nicely cleared out!

No frills hotel

No frills hotel in the middle of Union Square. Room was clean and maintained for an old building. It's a great place if you just plan on sleeping. I had a room with a private bathroom and it was great and clean.

This hotel was very central for walking around san franciaco..staff were helpful..onky downside as room wasnt cleaned at all the 5 days we stayed but we did get fresh towels when we asked.we wr happy with it and if ever rwturning we would stay again...area can be a little intimidaring as there is a big big issue with drugs & homelesness and you see more of that very clise to this street.

A decently safe inexpensive sf option

The check in process is a bit odd due to it not being on site. I had no towels in my room and had to walk around the corner to the hotel I checked in at to get towels. The room was quiet and comfortable despite the single pane windows out to the busy sf streets. I still don’t know where the “key drop” for check out is…

Overall a great stay, besides feeling a bit uncomfortable because of the homeless and sad drug use in the immediate vicinity the hotel (it's city wide, so not a whole lot to do..just sad). Still, we felt very safe. Our view of a concrete wall was actually rather comical! Very basic but comfortable room. Only real critique was that we could have used more than one towel each for a two night stay!

Room would've been fine if it had shower and own bathroom

This place was worth it for the money paid. Great location close to Union Square. Check in staff at the Stanford were very friendly, accomodating and helpful, the staff at the Bartlett not as much. Asked for fresh towels (as per instructions) but never got them. Could have done with a kettle and mini fridge in the room. However, place was clean and convenient.

We stayed at the Bartlett for a week. The location is excellent. Fantastic restaurants, public transit, and the cable cars are all only minutes away. We felt safe walking in the area as well. It is bare bones (2 bath towels), you do not get your room made every day but we had our own washroom, it is clean, and very affordable. San Francisco is very expensive so it pays to save where you can, the Bartlett is an excellent way to do just that. A tiny fridge in the room would be the only thing I would recommend.

This was the best, comfortable, home like hotel. Close to everything. Super clean. I only wish it had a microwave.

Had a great stay here. Perfect location, quiet room and good price. Every thing we needed - only missing a kettle and mugs to be able to have tea in the room. The only negative was that the flush on the toilet was not great.

This hotel was in a great location! We were in until square so next to all the food and shopping. And all to the activities we did had pick up from the hotel options.

First room given was not ready for occupancy. Sheets were used from previous guest. Had to walk back to the stratford hotel to change my room.

I have to say i was a little skeptical about arriving after 11pm to go to another hotel just to check in but the front desk was very pleasant and walking 20seconds up the street was fine. Bartlett itself was decent and very clean for a nights stay. I stayed in the Queen standard. Great stay for the location and price!

Great Central Location

I would stay again. Great Central Location in Downtown San Francisco. Within walking distance of buses, cable cars, metro (subway) and the BART system. We spent 6 nights at the hotel and it met all our expectations. Thanks.

This hotel has really great potential. I would love to see an actual concierge at this hotel instead of having to go to an adjacent hotel to see an actual person. Additionally, the carpets throughout the hotel have a strong smell that can be a deterrent for some. For some reason, my television didn’t work in my room. The Work that has already been done Is great And I really liked the large body wash bottles within the shower.

It was a very pleasant room, despite having to go down the hall to use the toilet or shower. The bed was very comfortable. My only major complaint is that the WiFi was very spotty. Also, the room could have used a few hooks to hang things on. There wasn't even a hook for my towel. But it's a great location at a great price!

The room were not in the best condition

We liked the location and convenience to move within the city. The option of a private bathroom. Disliked, the lack of thoroughness of the cleaning staff. Dusty in some general areas and there was a leftover clothing garment in our room. We didn’t notice it until the second day. The bed was a bit hard for our liking. The fire escape was pleasant to let in a breeze. Overall would recommend if you need a place to stay and will be out and about most day.

Just an old building. Low flow of water and no A/C but no complaints based on the cleanliness and price

1. You cannot check in at the hotel. You need to walk to another hotel next block to check in there. 2. There is no free room cleaning. You have to pay extra. 3. Worstly, the room I booked has no bathroom and I have to pay a lot to upgrade. They should put the "no bathroom" description somewhere obvious.

Yes the prior reviews were dad but honestly it was pretty chill its next to everything so you can walk anywhere or take the train which was a 5-10 walk not bad for the price

It was a good stay everything was close by. The only bad thing was there was a cockroach on the tub.

Great Hotel! Friendly staff(Jack) the room & Bathroom were very clean but cold! Only complaint the TV had very few channels & the picture was terrible! & it was a very noisy neighborhood especially @ night!!

Amazing atmosphere, if you're used to the city. The room itself was small, clean, and comfortable which was all we needed. The only issue we had was there was no blow dryer to dry our hair in our room.

Great for the money, and I like that the bar is attached. The city is what it is but I will say that over the last year or so I have noticed a big decrease in the number of homeless around the downtown areas.

Room was good for the price. Quite a bit of street noise late at night, though. Definitely needed ear plugs.

Right up front: There were no staff in the building. They disabled our access cards (they say by accident), and when we got locked out, we had to go to a completely different hotel down the road to have them give us new Hotel Keys. The bathroom was filthy, the shower drain was clogged with hair. When we called to have someone come fix the clog so we could shower, nobody answered the phone, and we couldn't leave a message. They give you two keys, one for the outside door, and one for the hotel room. Managing these keys is cumbersome. You will need to flip between these keys to open the outer door, inner door (there's two doors, it's really stupid), activate the elevator (Which is already inside two doors), and then get into your hotel room. There is a Bar that is part of the hotel, and they prop the door open, which blocks the ramp into the hotel, so if you are in a wheelchair you are absolutely screwed. The elevator is terrifying, it creaks, groans, shudders, and jerks around. At night, the area becomes absolutely saturated with the homeless. Two women screamed at us for trying to enter the hotel when they were trying to sleep, and tried to shake us down for money. There was a ton of road construction, screaming, and even illegal fireworks being set off right outside our window. Literally, right outside our window. The blast blew the window open. Oh! The window! Hope you don't have kids, the Windows have no grate, screen, etc. If you open it, you can fall right out.

Affordable

Room was basic but clean. However to check in i had to lug my luggage all the way to another hotel round the corner and back. Really inconvenient and difficult.

Small room but clean. For staying 1-2 night for single is good, but for family no.

The room was clean, the place was quiet. the restaurant attached is unreasonably expensive for what it is, and is very busy so its tough to get in. But the neighborhood has plenty of good options and its close to Moscone for conferences. Two things bothered me about the stay: 1 is the elevator certification expired 2021 and the elevator is terrifying. You can tell you are dangling, and it bounces around while moving. 2 is there is some roof unit that sounds like a woman screaming every time it turns on. You get used to it for the most part, but i still woke up a few times to it even 4 nights in. Bring ear plugs is probably the right move. I would stay again if no other options were a good price.

I used the facility during JPM event. Premium location and great price compared to other hotels for the event . I wasn’t expecting a daily housekeeping. I brought my extra towels. Room clean . Check in/out in their sister hotel Stratford

Mediocre Accommodations in Union Square

The hotel room itself was functional. But the room lacked heat during a time when the weather was colder. There is a single old steam furnace in the room that is supposed to provide heating that did not work at all. Additionally, the tun was very slow to drain water, so taking a shower in the tub meant standing in a pool of soapy shower water.

We love this place! Spacious rooms, convenient location!
