I really enjoyed my stay. The staff and the room were just the best.
Staffs make you feel welcome. Excellent location. John grill for diner. Irish Foley pub Café Mason do have incredible Huevos Rancheros. Room is spacious. Union Square to see the very courageous skaters was delightful. We stayed 3 dsys and We will stay there again. Thank you for this pleasant experience.
Was nervous based on reviews prior to our trip. But man were those reviews wrong. The Barnes is in a great location, the rooms were perfect, and the staff was great. Would stay here again!!! The breakfast was a continental breakfast which coast about $12 I believe. I would look at it first before you pre-order.
My husband and I had high hopes for this place and ended up being disappointed with how it turned out at the beginning of our trip. The first room we received had an odor to it and was dusty. When we went into the bathroom, there was a broken glass tile which we easily could’ve sliced our foot on. When we turned the shower on, there was no hot water. We called down to the front desk and explained that we needed a new room. Our next room still had an order, but wasn’t as bad as the first one. The heat did not work in the room and my husband and I were freezing the entire night. The next morning we called down to the front desk and told them our room had no heat. He sent up maintenance, who concluded that the thermostat did not work. At this point, we were very frustrated and complained to the front desk. They were very understanding of the situation and upgraded our room. Our third room was great. Very nice and spacious with a great looking bathroom. We used the filtered water system and it appears that the filter has not been changed in over a year. If you stay here, I would not trust the water filters and ice machines. Overall, our experience did improve after we received an upgraded room. There was no odor in that room. Location was a 2 minute walk to Union Square and the train station. Was easy to access and travel from the hotel. If your expectations are high, do not stay here. You will be getting a 2-star hotel at best, definitely not a 4-star hotel.
Great location centrally located to all amenities & tourist areas.
The power went off a couple of times when tried to use coffee machine, called for service and waited for 2 hours. Otherwise very cozy and convenient place with nice staff
It’s ok
Old renovated hotel
It’s an old building that they have tried to renovate so it smells quite musty and old. The hot water takes a while to turn hot in the shower and water pressure in the sink is quite low. The rooms do not have central heating and the room heater took a while to work and figure out. The breakfast buffet only includes bagels and cakes and muffins and toast . If you want anything else for breakfast you have to order ala cart.however location was not bad. Close to union square , Walgreens pharmacy and Macy’s
Great location close to Union Square. The staff was friendly and efficient. The room was spacious. We decided to keep the windows closed as the view was not great.
Great service
Great stay.
Minn couple.
Stay was good. Cable cars right side close to union square and other Downtown stores. Downfall was the protesters on every other block and the people pushing their beliefs. San Francisco overall is a fun city. Run into the same downfalls in other cities.
Lovely. Very down town. So cool.
When I checked into my room, the room provided to me was not cleaned at all and had an unmade bed, towels all over in bathroom and urine in toilet. Barely an apology and had to neg for compensation in the form of a room one size up which had an inadequate window AC and fan. Dismal front desk with computer issues and not customer service forward or solutions based. Lost so much time on a short work trip over this. Disappointing because it is a nice hotel and great location. Hope I was an anomaly.
all good
Staff was really nice and assisted when needed. Room felt dated and bathroom was very small.
The staff was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our short stay.
Wouldn't recommend this hotel at all
Great location for shopping
This hotel is situated within 50m of union square and just across from a cable car stop .the staff were really great and rooms spacious .
Great staff and great location
Had a good stay at the Barnes.
Perfect spot
Perfect location to catch the Muni to the game, walk across the street to nice skate and enjoy Union square. The 12 pm checkout gave us enough time to go to breakfast and walk a little before checkout. Parking at the garage a block up wasn’t bad.
The rooms/ bathrooms / corridors were very dirty, smelly old and cold. The heater/ air-conditioner was a box under the window straight next to the bed and was blowing at us just an air without really warming up the room. We couldn’t set the air on auto, because the auto didn’t work at all. My wife caught a cold in this room, even though the weather outside was in the 60s. We had to change the room due to everyone’s waking up with the dizziness.
Friendly staff. Convenient location to good restaurants like Pinecrest diner up the street from the hotel. Nearby Macy's and other shopping. Careful with the transport as the Lyft drivers have problems finding the front door!
It was not good as I expected as a Hiltons brand. It might be the city, felt very uncomfortable down town SF. It’s full of trash everywhere on the surroundings.
We were at the 4 star Hilton for a few days and moved there because it was cheaper and honestly, the room was bigger and we really envoyed it! Highly recommended
Convenient, tasteful design
Convenient location close to Union Square. Parking garage available a block away. Charming old building that has been modernized. Room was cleaned daily. Only complaint was low water pressure in the shower.
I loved the Barnes. The staff was amazing. Please congratulate them on a job well done. They were friendly, kind and provided excellent customer service. I loved the hotel the decor, the cleanliness and location. I cant say enough about the hotel and the staff. I really enjoyed my Stay. I wouldn’t think of staying anywhere else in San Francisco. Bravo Barnes hotel.
Our bathroom not was excellent, no hot water when arrive. ask in front desk, they just says “open the hot water an wait”. The bathroom was to small, the tub was slippery.
Great location and a spacious room and great staff made for an enjoyable stay.
The barnes is a nice place to stay in downtown SFO, its very convenient to shopping malls, transpo and safe to stay.
Hotel was boutique style and very comfortable and contemporary. Although the staff that was available was very helpful and very pleasant, there were not enough people on staff overnight, when I checked in.
Room is a little dark. There was no desk.
The rooms are really small only 2 towels given when 4 people staying in room, the fridge didnt work,
The AC was too cold and you can’t control it. So there were times that we were very cold in the room and have to endure it. The tub didn’t drain well.
A perfect location for our mother daughter weekend. Able to get to the trolley easily, next to a tour stop at Union Square, great food options close by. The staff was amazing!
Great location, the staff was really nice.
The only bad thing are the scary crackheads and junkies everywhere
Good location near Union Square and Powell Street Station. The staff was very friendly and while cozy, the rooms were clean and comfortable with good maid service.
Great location. Within 15 min walk to a lot of things.
I normaly don’t write reviews but after booking 3 mo ago then reading the recent bad reviews right before my trip I felt need to clarify. Rooms were spacious, plenty of good hot water in an awesome shower, Very clean, great location, staff was amazing and helpful. Frankie at the front desk was helpful respectful and on time , good job I would recomend this place to anyone traveling to the Bay Area.
takes 10 mins to have warm water from shower, too much fragrance used in the room. if not using the feagance, there is a damp smell
Thankfully just staying one night. Dark room in which nothing really works. Have to jiggle fhe flex on the lighting cable to get it to work. Doesn’t feel safe. Hilton Honours status entirely ignored. Hate to wait until well after 1500 for a room.
Decent city center hotel. Water temperature ok if you are getting up early.
Great except the hot water would take a long time to heat up
Good hotel, close to BART and cable cars
Close to everything. Great staff. Nice room. Clean and comfortable.
Excellent location and value. It was very limited however. There was a continental breakfast offered for a fee but cheaper options were available elsewhere. There was also a very limited dinner service. There were ample options elsewhere with similar prices and greater variety. The staff were all great and the accommodations were as expected for a basic Hilton room.
Couldnt find the entrance. Arrived at night and walked around before we found it. The rooms and bathrooms re very very tiny.
Friendly staff
Obviously, I understand you get what you pay for. This property was right in the middle range as far as price. As a Hilton property I would not expect the TV to be ripped out of the wall, ceiling fan didn’t work, and no fan in the bathroom? The bar was closed for some reason for the two nights we stayed. Staff didn’t seem to care.
I love how close the place is to multiple dining options. No on site parking. Smells old but clean inside.
Had an amazing stay
The natural sun light that flowed into the rooms and hallways was great! I loved the location and access to the Muni and BART transit systems. I will be back to SF and this particular hotel.
This hotel is in a great location and the staff were very helpful. The housekeeping was excellent.
Im from SF but i love to stay here! Close to everything!! Like everytjing and the rooms are awesome!
Worth the price but very urban location.
Convince location
Good boutique hotel. It's an older building and rooms/ hallways reflect it. Cleaning and maintenance could use some improvement. That being said the staff was extremely receptive and understanding when we had issues or questions. The hotel is on the north side of the Tenderloin neighborhood which can be questionable, but close enough to Union Square and other tourist sites to still feel safe enough for excursions.
Well located, nice hotel, very convenient. Hot water in our room was unreliable and needed the shower running for approx 10 minutes before hot came through.
The people who work there make the property great. The room was a little beaten up and the tub was dated and seemed dirty.
So central and convenient to city attractions. Highly recommended!
Get hotel and staff however the room was not as described. Our bathroom was very small and not as described. Additionally the room we had frosted windows that you could not see out of. Was very disappointing by my room, but staff and location was great.
convenient location in the city
The room was so strong molding smell Bathroom should be improved, bathtub was not presentable
Great location, quiet rooms
Nice location. Lights turned on by themselves while sleeping, alarm clock blared one morning. Staff nice
Very quaint hotel. Clean. Friendly desk and eady check in and check out. Great maid service. Nice restaurant. Very pleased with location on cable car route. Definitely would stay again
Great
Overall we liked our stay
Overall our stay was good,, Hotel location is so good, room was good too. I didnt like that the was no view, also first step in there was hair on the chair which I didnt like, but they offer daily cleaning service which is good
close to union square
Pleasant staff! Excellent location! Modern clean rooms! Recommend!!!!
It was very nice. The only complaint I had was regarding the breakfast. I would have like to seen the traditional scrambled eggs, pancake, and potatoes available; however I realized now that your hotel probably does not have a kitchen.
Perfect Location
Great location. My room was on the main road right opposite a bar so was noisy on the weekend nights. Nothing some ear plugs can't solve. The staff were very useful. I would say that the room was slightly unlean and found some used wrappers and bottles under the desk when I first came in.
It was a nice stay but it needs some work done to it. The floors felt weak, a lot of soft spots in the floor. Our room lights kept turning on by themselves which was aggravating because it will be 2 in the morning. We had to keep calling for our room to be service. Other than that the front desk was very professional and the bartender was awesome.
Hotel rooms are small and the bathroom. And no parking. But the location is perfect, walking distance to most of the food places like the museums , China town, shopping malls and to the cable car stations.
Na
The picture of the room that I booked looked much bigger, but in person it was very small and not enough room to keep all of our belongings (2 people in the room). Aside from that, the refrigirator in the room did not work and out of the 4 days we had the room we did not get hot water for 2 of the days. The staff were nice and helpful, but the room itself was a problem.
Good central location to branch out for exploring. Quiet clean rooms.
We stayed in a corner room across the street from a very noisy bar and garbage pick up area. The bottom of the bathtub was chipping and the water pressure was super low. Overall the room was ok, just very very loud, it was hard to get a full sleep.
Quick check-in, friendly staff and an awesome location...
Perfect location to access the whole of the city. Really helpful staff. We had an issue with the first room and immediately moved without any issue. Breakfast is a plus in the city.
Centrally located with public transportation accessible within walking distance. Reasonably priced.
Great People
All the staff we encountered were all professional, courteous, helpful and accommodating.
Lovely place and service
The hotel has not been renewed, it's old, but the location is excellent. If you want to stay at the hotel to rest, go to other place. But if you want to go shopping, walk around and just go to the hotel to sleep, this is the right place. Staff is nice and friendly. I would reserve there again only for the location.
After I got home, I realized that I have over six bites on my body from bed bugs. I would recommend the hotel look into a deep clean.
It was located in a great area. I didn’t like that the decor was used as a way to cover the things that are wrong with the place. My room had a lot of sections in the flooring where it felt like my foot was gonna go through the wood if I wasn’t careful.
The location was great. Close to everything. The staff was great and very helpful. The rooms was nice and spacious. The only cons was no microwave in the rooms and the water pressure was low.
Great location. Close to everything. Water pressure was low but overall a good stay.
The property is great for the price you are paying. The hotel felt safe but the rooms are pretty small. So, if you have a lot of luggage it will probably be difficult.
No hot water for the first 25 minutes has been bothersome.
No safe parking and the rooms were very small and the bathroom was similar to an airplane bathroom. It’s very sad how much homeless and questionable characters linger around this area and driving business out.
Our shower curtain didn't reach the bathtub. So, every time you took a shower the floor was drenched. Said something to crew, but nothing was done. Also bathroom was barely big enough to turn around.
really nice hotel in a good location.
I’ll start with worst parking there is no parking there are no discounts with any surronding garage. There is a garage a block (mason&o’farrell)away that’s 24hr and for $45 daily they offer in and out parking. It is noisy so noisy hard to sleep, the a/c was just as loud as outside. And there’s a weird smell in the hallways. No room service as well.
Great place to stay in the heart of SF. Massive room that surpassed expectations.
Very friendly staff. Rough area
Good location. Excellent staff!
Most rooms face each other over a small open space, so absolutely no view. The "continental breakfast" was basic and way overpriced. Make sure to plan for parking ahead of time as there is none on site. The positive is that it was a good location and staff was professional.
