Tabacón Thermal Resort & Spa

Had an excellent stay here in November for our honeymoon. Check in was friendly and we were greeted with cool towels and a cold drink which was lovely after a long drive. The hotel has incredible value with thermal spa. Our room was beautiful and clean. We enjoyed the breakfast every morning at the on site restaurant, one thing I will note is that there were not a lot of vegan options for breakfast and the espresso machine did not have a non dairy option. However, the servers were very accommodating and made me a separate coffee and got me avocado so I could make avocado toast which was very nice. We also really enjoyed having dinner at the restaurant at the thermal spa and the cocktails at the thermal spa were incredible as well. Overall, incredible hotel, we can’t wait to return one day!

Excellent hotel but it was too pricey. Not sure if it is worth the price.

This was one of the best Hotel stays I ever had! All the staff were superb! Everyone was professional, welcoming, friendly and nice! The room had a sunning view of Arenal Volcano. I enjoyed the 6 course tasting menu at Toucan’s Restaurant and it was soooo good! The breakfast buffet was well worth the price. The jewel of the resort was, of course, the hot springs! They were phenomenal- a cascading river of hot springs with about 20 pools of varying degrees. The top of the springs was called Shari-La and is reserved for hotel guests only. This is where you will find the hottest spring. There are cabanas and bar service right there at the top. Located within the spring area is a spa where I had the most awesome, relaxing massage by Brian. The massage took place in an open air cabana surrounded by jungle. I was lucky and there was an awesome rain down pour during my massage and it was truly relaxing listening to the sound while getting massaged, I totally zoned out! The other restaurant located at the spring area, Aves, was also very good, more casual and you could soak in the springs and then have dinner in your robe. The grounds are meticulously landscaped with gorgeous flowers, green shrubs and trees everywhere. The place was so clean and spotless. I loved this place and will definitely return someday… hopefully, soon!

The location is gorgeous, thermal springs are plentiful and very refreshing. The staff are very pleasant and welcoming. The complimentary breakfast is is excellent with a wide variety of foods to choose from. The only issue I have is that dining choices at the restaurants are very limited.

Great property and super nice! Staff was incredibly friendly and and amazing experience overall. Only missed 1 start because they don’t have a lot of night life & the pool on the resort ground closes at 6:00pm. It’s nice that the hot springs is open until 10:00pm.

The King suite was comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. It was beautiful and a remote location. The thermal spas were very relaxing. Lots of activities to do nearby. Definitely recommend for couples.

Amazing hot spring. Tabacon hot spring is like on an out of this world level. We had renovated rooms and Arenal volcano with its perfect cone is right outside our windows. Uber to closest town La Fortuna is about US$ 3-7 per way. The town has lots of restaurants and souvenir shops. Los Toucanes on premise has excellent food if one prefer to dine in.

Overhyped not worth the price

This hotel is overhyped. Nothing special just a regular hotel. The rooms were small, not well kept Overall just ok not worth the price.

Beautiful Stay

Beautiful hotel in the heart of Arenal. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The food and drinks were excellent as well. The hot springs were beautiful and amazing. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. We were sad to leave.

Excellent hotel. The only problem was driving to get to the hotel, about 4 hrs from Tramindo Beach

Tabacón is an incredible resort! The springs is much larger than you would expect, with many beautiful parts to find privacy and relaxation. The drinks are incredible and views are even better. We indulged in a couples volcanic mud massage- and it was the best massage ever! The spa is beautiful, peaceful and worth it! One thing to consider is that it is a 20minute ride to town, so you are pretty much committed to eating at the resort- which is not cheap. Each drink is $15 and meals are $20 . The breakfast options are a buffet at $35 a person or room service- which is about $20 . (Summer 2024) The food was amazing, but we were definitely expecting some cheaper options before we arrived.

Amazing spa and thermal pools. The service was amazing all around. Very frie dly and attentive staff. Breakfast buffet was great. Lunch at the springs was amazing, we did not have 1 bad meal.

This resort was SO nice. It was exactly what we needed to relax and unwind after an adventurous start to our Costa Rica trip. We spent more time in the hot springs than we expected and deeply unwound in a way that we really needed. It was divine and we cannot wait to return!

Food is priced as in the US but tasted terrible. Staff was friendly but inefficient and made mistakes on orders and requests. Service was extremely slow.

Its amazing hotel with fantastic hot spring and forest view

From beginning to end the quality of service was exceptional! The staff was attentive, and eager to meet our every request. The room was spacious and clean. The property was emaculantly kept. The menu choices were broad and the food was delicious! The hot springs were amazing! Quiet and manicured. They have an area set aside for hotel guests. The location is perfect, a few minutes from la fortuna and most major attractions in the area. The roads all had fresh pavement so access to and from the hotel was not a problem. Signage on the road system is terrible so GPS is recommended.

Hot springs was Great

Absolutely beautiful, clean, amazing!

Hot springs are the highlight. Restaurant is great for breakfast. Not so much for the dinner. They try to create visually appealing dishes and somewhat succeed, but fall short in flavor. Add to that the cost similar to eating out in New York City and it will make no sense. There are plenty of restaurants in the town. It's safe to drive at night. Lots of people out. Very lively.

Expensive hotel but I could hear snoring from the next door while try to sleep. Terrible!!!!

The price has increased tremendously but service quality has declined. They expanded the room but not the restaurant nor amenities.

Very disappointed with the lack of service from the property manager who refused to credit our resort package when we were unable to enter the country due to missing documentation. On April 19th we arrived to Costa Rica only to be sent right back. We never arrived at the resort, and have documentation form the airport proving we weren’t able to enter the country, but the resort manager decided to keep our money anyways. We lost a vacation and $3200. Very shady way of doing business.

Amazing!!!

Absolutely stunning property! Everything from the rooms, common areas, gardens and hot springs were top notch.

not friendly at all, we had a really bad experience with not expert staff in Tabacon resort hotel maximum is 3 star hotel You don’t feel welcome and we saw Insects and cockroach in our room and call the room service and front desk they didn’t do anything!!!

Iconic resort to experience the natural hot springs. Lots to do nearby in the town of La Fortuna. Great variety of offerings at the breakfast buffet.

Really a nice and well kept property, with stunning hot springs. We loved our room and the restaurant was really good. The staff was awesome and always available to assist.

It was so beautiful.

Such a beautiful place. The staff is very well trained and everyone is very friendly. Everything was amazing! My only complaint would be that the hot springs weren’t as hot as I expected and very shallow water. I have visited other resorts around the area and their springs are better. Other than that 10/10 experience.

Beautiful place, friendly staff, definitely coming back

Very nice hotel , we were welcomed with a welcome drink and taken to our room in a golf cart . Everything was perfect the only thing I wish we knew is that the springs are at a different location and you need to take a quick 3 minutes shuttle ride to them. The restaurant was delicious I would really recommend

Absolutely enjoyed my stay. I came to Costa Rica to relax and my husband and I did just that. From the room, to the restirant, to the hot spring …rverything just perfect!

Luxurious getaway

You will not be disappointed. Great staff, great amenities. Right in the middle of the rainforest. Truly breathtaking and the spa is amazing as well. Would definitely return.

Quality of food is not as good as it used to. Last time i went was 2019, they said many things were changed, i found most to be the same, only food was different tho not for the best. Service was great as aways.

The best luxury spa resort I've ever been to. The staff is truly unique. They greet you with a welcome drink & hot towel, valet is free, and they are such a professional staff on site. The rooms are incredible, the mountain views are breathtaking, and the hot springs are amazing. We had the honeymoon suite and loved every moment. The restaurants on site are also incredible and breakfast is included. 10/10

The best hotel in Costa Rica

Incredible property, staff and service!

Tabacón is an absolute beautiful resort and spa. The staff are all so welcoming, kind, and extremely helpful. The staff helped me with contacting excursions, drove me to my room when I hurt my ankle, and soo much more. If I come back to Costa Rica I will most certainly stay here again. It’s like paradise here!

The Hotel was amazing, however booking it to Expedia was a total disappointment. Several Spirit Airlines across the state had a system failure and they cancelled our flight to LaFortuna. I called Expedia explaining the issues they refused to help or reimbursed us not even a discount or credits was giving to us. Will never book through Expedia again.

Great staff

The pros: The hot springs are breathtaking. The nature, mixed with the gardens, creates the perfect combination for a peaceful place to let yourself go. The staff is well-trained, and you’ll receive only top service. We went to Los Tucanes Restaurant just one night, and we had a tomahawk; it was Soooooo delicious!!!!!!, five stars there. The Cons: After 10 pm, there’s nothing else to do, NO NIGHTLIFE!!!! There is just a bar and it is way too expensive for the standard room’s quality. The soap bottle didn’t even pump properly. I have been in hotels where I have received great rooms for less than half of the price; however, in general, it was a good experience for the hot springs and the restaurant. If I go again, I will get a day pass for the hot springs, and dinner at Tucanes Restaurant, if possible, but I'll pass the hotel; the rooms are not worth it.

Hermosa propiedad, mi familia y yo encantados con las aguas termales. Sin embargo, servicio al cliente de la administración necesita ofrecer un mejor servicio. Tuve un inconveniente que la reservación de la habitación que hice online no fue la misma que hice por el internet y cuando fui a reclamar a la administración Vanessa me expresó que el tipo de habitación que tenia no estaba disponible para mi reservación pero cuando revisé el perfil online la habitación si estaba disponible. Definitivamente no me quedaría nuevamente en este hotel. Sentí que mi reservación fue extraviada y no fui rembolsada por la confusión.

Amazing!

Overall, we really enjoyed Tabacon, the staff hotel and the amenities, especially the hot springs! We were there for 2 days and had separate bookings for each day and the hotel were unable to allow us to stay in the same room. We had requested a view of Volcano and got this in our day 2 room.

Beautiful property with impressive views and impec

We stayed at the Tabacon property in La Fortunate, Costa Rica. The property is very tastefully designed and very strategically located to provide a grandiose view of the Arenal volcano. The adjoining Tobacon hot springs are also owned by the property and a perk that all hotel residents get to avail. There are shuttles that transport guests to and from the hot springs almost every 10 minutes from morning until 10pm. The service at the hotel, the hot springs, and all associated restaurants is impeccable. We did find the restaurant menus to be limited and found the food quality mediocre, but overall it’s definitely a good return on investment.

Outstanding in every way. Best FOOD- breakfast was incredible and something for everyone, room service great, dinner exceptional. Hot springs you can walk to with no problem or take the complimentary shuttle. Early access to the hot springs with ropes provided is well worth it. Don’t hesitate book stay here just do it. Staff was very kind, and room was very clean abd comfortable. Only thing uncomfortable is if want to go hot spring, use shuttle to get there but shuttle was operation every 2-3 minutes.
