After our day, walking through Machu Picchu, this was a fantastic place to spend the night. The staff met our group at the train station, and took our luggage from us so that we can go straight to the modern wonder. we checked in when we were done seeing the amazing sites, and our bags were already in our room.

Everything was nice, hotel was clean and comfortable. The only thing I didn't like was that the boss or administrator did not want to lend an umbrella to our guide in that torrential rain, even though we told him that we would give him an umbrella the next day, he left and arrived at his hotel wet.

There was nothing we did not enjoy about our stay. The staff was supportive and considerate at each and every moment. They went out of their way to help us feel like we belonged. They assisted us with luggage, with our excursions, and with our general questions. We cannot say enough how much we appreciated the entire Sumaq staff. The facilities were clean and easy to use. The breakfast was delicious and the wait staff was consistently available to satisfy any and all of our needs. Not only would we love to come back for another visit, but we will be sure to recommend this hotel to all of our friends and family. Outstanding job!

It's often hard to review a stay when you've only had the pleasure of staying one night, however there were definitely some stand out points which made Sumaq worthy of its rating. Firstly staff are lovely, and as we arrived on the earlier train into Aguas Calientes they offered us an early check-in, greatly appreciated. The room itself, is as expected when basically sleeping riverside, you'll hear the river as if white noise the entire night, I Loved it, others might not. Amenities wise, some of the best we had, and L'Occitane products were LUSH! The bed itself felt a little damp, however this might be normal considering the climate in the area, We still had a great sleep regardless, and woke up fresh and ready to take on Machu pichhu! Our package was Half board and included dinner, DELICIOUS! Honestly, we polished all three courses off and although we didn't go for traditional Peruvian food (the options were there) it was hands down some of the best food we had throughout our time in the country. So this set the tone and we were very excited for breakfast the next morning, to our disappointment this wasn't up to par... Very few options, and everything just fell a bit flat here. We would probably skip this unless you're content with cereal and some coffee. Overall however our stay was lovely, and we'd definitely recommend Sumaq when visiting Aguas Calientes and Machu Pichhu.. Even if just for the dinner!

What a wonderful hotel in every way. Small, clean, quiet and excellent service. If you are planning a trip to Machu Picchu peublo (Aguas Calientes) this is the place to stay. It is next to an active train line, but noise from that is infrequent to not be an issue. We also booked two excursions through the hotel which were excellent. The restaurant is delicious and the spa services were also great. A river view room would have a balcony overlooking the river and with breathtaking Mountain View’s. We took a garden view room that had no balcony but a small window faced the rear garden wall. If we go back we will definitely book a river view room!

Amazing 2 night stay at Sumaq. I'm really happy that we picked this hotel as it made the whole trip feel luxurious - from the moment a bell-boy meets you at the train station to take care of your bags and the welcome drink after a long walk in Machu Picchu, to deliciuos breakfast / dinner paired with amazing cocktails from a friendly bard staff. We stayed in Junior suit and the room was spacious and well decorated. The hotel is just a short walk from the train station and the bus stop.

Quick but great stay

Hotel is clearly one of the nicest in Aguas Calientes. It’s location isn’t directly in the heart of town, but that’s fine, as town isn’t very big regardless. 3 star hotel in a 5 star area

Relative to Aguas Calientes this is a 5 star hotel, however, bugs in the room and I’m the shower. Not clean. Rooms were uncomfortable. Staff was kind, check in drinks, and service. Dinner was good and had a nice breakfast. Although the hotel ended up working with us, gave us difficulty checking out at 1pm v noon. I think it’s pretty silly to have a hotel in AG that requires noon checkout when most guests arrive in the late evening, lobby was packed upon arrival at 5pm, and are checking out the following morning after Machu Picchu. When paying 500 a night for a room you’d expect a little more wiggle room....

beautiful art, good food. Cons: location is on the river, but also on the main road where the buses start heading up to Machu Picchu very early. There is no A/C and like all hotels in Peru, a very very heavy comforter on the bed. There were no screens on the windows, so you couldn't leave the windows open so choices were to be too hot, or let bugs and street noise in. They did provide a plug in bug zapper!

Sumaq is stunning. The hotel is elegant, boutique and beautiful. We were here on our honeymoon with a twin room garden view booked. When they heard it was our honeymoon they uograded us to a grand suite overlooking the beauitful river and mountains. The hotel staff could not have possibly been friendlier. They greeted with delicious beverages when we arrived. They went above and beyond to accommodate a couples massage for us on a very short notice. The spa was heavenly. The aroma, ambiance, and therapists, were all amazing. We missed happy hour but the hotel gave us free drinks and delicious snacks at the bar at a time that was convenient for us. We loved tea time. Tea time was delicious and they had such yummy delicacies. The breakfast buffet which was included in our hotel stay was absolutely delicious. The options are endless and everything is so tasty. You will be unhappy with how much delicious food you eat bc you will not be able to stop eating. They have such great juices, teas, coffees, and other unique drinks. The hotel gave us towels to go to the hot springs and brought our luggage to the train station. We were so beyond satisfied with Sumaq. They made our stay in Aguas caliente so enjoyable. We felt no need to leave the hotel the entire time we were there because it was so comfortable in every way. 5 stars!! Highly reccomend this hotel to anyone and everyone!

You’d think for a 5 star luxury hotel they’d be more accommodating with their guests. The hotel chooses to stick their policies rather than take care of their customers. Expedia is no better. We mistakenly booked for 2 nights but had to head to Cusco after 1 because our dates were off when booking. We asked for a refund for the second night, I would’ve even settled for half back or an Expedia credit. Both companies decided to stick with their policies. Sure the hotel is nice if you can get past the crappy area it’s in and the non stop noise coming from the trains but not worth it and not accommodating for their customers when something occurs

When we arrived at the hotel, we were given a room with two single beds, instead of a queen size bed, when we requested a change we were told that because we booked through Expedia, we were given the room that was available. We also explained that we were worried about the noise, as this room was adjacent to the lobby. They changed us to a room with a bigger bed, but it was right by the train tracks, we couldn’t sleep as the trains run through the night. We were also told that because it’s an Expedia VIP property, we were given free mini bar, but when we got there we were told that it was just one bottle of water, one local soda or a Gatorade. It is our impression that this hotel is geared more towards groups and not individual clients. We expected an Expedia VIP experience and we got a less than remarkable one. On the positive side, we loved the pisco sour and ceviche class. Overall, we wouldn’t recommend this property or stay there another time.

I liked the location which was right next to the bus stop for Machu Picchu and they welcomed us with drinks and dessert. The cooking demo was excellent as well as the food. The only thing to be careful about is if your room in next to the train tracks. It’s not too bad because it doesn’t run past 10 pm and starts around 6 am but something to be aware of.

SUMAQ is an amazing hotel! I loved my stay. The customer service is excellent. I enjoyed the complimentary cooking class for the Pisco Sour and ceviche. The dinner was delicious and perfect; also included in the reservation! I highly recommend this hotel!

Friendly service, good food, comfortable stay

I would absolutely recommend a stay here while visiting Machu Picchu. The views are lovely. The staff is incredibly friendly. The food (breakfast buffet, tea, happy hour, dinner) was both delicious and convenient to have close by when you're tired from hiking. Clean and huge bathrooms. Beds were comfortable.

Worst Luxury Hotel I’ve Stayed At

Most of the rooms have no privacy and face the train tracks and ground level walking trails. Train runs from 6am-10pm and shakes the building. Breakfast is mostly freezer thawed food. Staff is incredibly invasive. I did not make my first tour so hotel sent a male staff into my (a woman’s room) at 6:20am where I was sleeping alone. He came into my room, and continued walking toward my bed while I was completely undressed. He woke me up to force a box of quinoa on me. 30 min later, cleaning staff came and tried to clean. Most importantly the front staff makes promises then back tracks. I tried to request a refund for a tour that cost $500. One night they promised a refund and then the next day they walked back on their claim. That’s a lot of money to promise back and then change at last minute. Bad sleep, bad tasting food. Been to hundreds of luxury hotels— you won’t even get a 1/4th of your moneys worth. Save your wallet. This one is not worth it and has made vacation a headache.

Very good option in Aguas Calientes. Great breakfast. Grea service. Thank you Victor! Better than going up to the Sanctuary, with access to the town.

Nice but way overpriced.

This hotel is very expensive for what you get. The rooms are nice but the buses start at 5:30 am and it’s unvekievably bad. Dinner was included and great. However, do not book extras like drivers through this hotel. They charged me 4 times what I should have paid from a driver from ollayta to Cusco and I think gave 1/5 to the actual driver. When I realized how overpriced it was, I tried canceling 2 days prior but was told I couldn’t because it was arranged yet the driver told me when he picked us up, he had just gotten the call that morning.

Incredible location and service. We were met at the train station by the bell staff who carried our luggage to the hotel. On the day we checked out, we were out and about. Without us even asking, the bell staff said to leave our luggage and they would bring it to the train station for us. They were there on time and had even zip-tied our luggage for safety. While at the hotel, all our requests were handled expertly. We appreciated the all-inclusive package which included meals, a daily cocktail and an arrival amenity. This is the best place to stay in Aguas Calientes!

Best Decision You'll Ever Make - Post Inka Trail

We opted to book this hotel in lieu of going straight back to Cusco the day we finished the Inka Trail and it was best decision we ever could have made during our vacation. While the ticket to book seems high, the amenities that come with it far exceed the cost - free four course dinner, a massive breakfast spread, excellent service and onsite spa. We stumbled into the reception area smelly and dirty and the staff treated us as if we were heads of state welcoming us with warm washcloths, fresh iced tea and delicious high-quality snacks from the kitchen. The delicious food followed us everywhere we went through our stay, seeming to just appear wherever we were (just check Instagram posts tagged with SUMAQ for proof!) To make our stay even better, they accommodated last-minute massage appointments for us the same day and offered to clean our very smelly laundry while we were pampered. The luxury never ended - the meals were outstanding, robes and slippers in the rooms, wonderfully comfortable beds. The best part? Outlets in the room that fit our American chargers! Hallelujah, no converters needed! The Wifi connection was also strong enough to support a facetime call with family! Staying at the SUMAQ Macchu Picchu Hotel will be the best decision you make if you go to Macchu Picchu, whether by foot or train. We cannot recommend this hotel and its value enough! We may go back to Peru just to stay here again!

Great location next to down town.

Hotel traditional with modern convienences. Hotel porters met us at the train station to transfer our luggage to the hotel while we took the bus to Machu Picchu. Dinner was great. Get a breakfast box if you visit Machu Picchu on the second day and need to catch an early bus.

Very friendly and accommodating staff. Room was ok but needed updating. Also, hotel is right beside an active railroad so it was a bit noisy even very late at night. It actually woke me up twice in the middle of the night.

Amazing hotel with fantastic staff

Had a staff member meet us at the AG train station which was nice of them; We received welcome drinks & a snack which was exceptional. We dropped off our bags and went exploring around AG and when we returned, we were greeted with a yummy little dessert. Sumaq provide afternoon tea every day from 4-5.30pm which was very delicious,,, we were extremely full just from light food! Our dinner at Sumaq was 3 courses and was very filling; And breakfast was just as good - Sumaq knows how to keep their guests full! All the staff were fantastic and were always willing to help us out - a big thanks to everyone at the hotel and also to Percy who taught us the different Peruvian discos that exist :)

Perfect place to stay!

Wonderful place to stay while going to visit Machupicchu! Restaurant in the hotel was excellent and they even offer afternoon tea included in the stay! Staff is friendly and helpful. Room was quite large and so clean. Can’t say a bad thing about this pace - top notch! A quick walk from the train and great location for walking to the museum and trailhead for Machupicchu if you choose to climb and not take the buses. Perfect.

Almost a top notch hotel

Lovely hotel in good position. Two disappointments - our garden view room faced a wall with a few plants growing out of it, that would have been fine until train rumbled past, didnt realise trains so close and noisy. And breakfast very disappointing - no chef preparing freshly cooked eggs etc, few staff, poor coffee,

Get hotel with very comfortable beds and great food. Only complaint was that the restaurant was very noisy. They should do some sound-proofing to keep the din down. Worth the extra money for a memorable stay.

Amazing stay in Aguas Callientes!

Our stay in Sumaq was wonderful. We arrived around 12pm and unfortunately our room was ready. The front desk staff kind upgraded up to a river view room. We were welcomed with a drink and offered a complimentary Pisco Sour and Ceviche tutorial at the bar. My husband and I enjoyed it very much. The rooms are very big and bed are super comfortable! We really enjoyed having a room with the river view. We slept like babies with the sound of the water outside our window. Breakfast and dinner were included that were really great, plenty of options. It's not the cheapest hotel in Aguas Callientes but the service, amenities and food make it well worth the price. We would stay here again!

So beautiful and peaceful!

Our stay at the Sumaq was well worth the price we paid. We were weary of the cost at first but once we were there, we didn’t question it one bit. The rooms are beautiful and clean, the staff is AMAZING, and the food is wonderful. We also stayed in late March so the weather was cool enough to leave the doors open to keep the room cool. I’m not sure how it would be in warmer weather with heat/bugs. But it was an incredible experience.
