Nice surprise
Nice place for a long stay. Its a fit far from the 5th Av action but very convenient setup if you are looking to stay and explore. Has only stairs for less mobile travelers
It was just perfect
Loved it!! Everything was well thought out. The owners were so sweet and helpful, even with our horrible Spanish. Loved the pool. I would and will go back one day.
We had a great time during our stay in Suites Fenicia. The owners are just great hosts and made our stay unforgettable and safe! Rooms are well equipped with kitchenette, fridge, toaster; coffee maker, hotplate , and safety box. Internet connexion is steady and fast. Clean rooms and bathroom. Well located close to grocery stores. 5th Avenue and the beach are only 12 mn walk from the hotel. Looking forward to staying longer there next year.
Owners are awesome Place is clean and has everything you need. I would definitely stay here again
My sister and I had such a wonderful stay at Suites Fenicia. Our rooms were comfortable and had basic kitchen appliances so we could make a few meals when needed. There were so many amenities I wasn’t expecting such as a lounge room, and a ton of beach stuff to borrow! The location was very convenient, depending where you need to go you can get to most places in max 30 min walk. It was really fun to explore the city by foot. I highly recommend this property for your stay in Playa del Carmen!
Staff was excellent!
Great Stay
Great place to stay short or.long term. Clean, comfortable, with great amenities.
What I liked is that my room was clean. I did not like at all was that I had problems with the toilet the day I arrived. I was not too please about that as I was extremely tired and just wanted to rest. It was difficult to fix so I was asked to stay in another room while it gets fixed. The second room I was asked to go to, was not to my liking. I was told I have a choice to wait for the repair, stay there or move out and search for another accommodation in the area. I am 73 year old, I did not like to be treated that way. That toilet should have been working properly before I arrived. It got fixed eventually and went back to my room. What a waste of my time and lots of grieves. Also this place is located next to a very busy street the 30th ave so there's lots traffic noises. It is very far from town. I certainly do not recommend this place.
The staff was great and accommodating. Good communication.
Mexican vibe
We wanted a hotel with a Mexican vibe and this place delivered that. We enjoyed the pool, the outside area and the roof top were amazing. The area has lots of local stores and little food shacks, we felt very safe walking around. Our room was lacking comfort. The beds and the pillows were hard, the mattress top case kept sliding over. The hotel is located on a very busy intersection and it was very noisy, noise never stopped. I am a very light sleeper and I couldn't sleep at all. The shower was painful, the water in a sink was barely coming out, the issue was addressed with the owner and it was fixed, but for the worse. The kitchen faucet was leaking and the water was dripping nonstop. This place requires some maintenance. Breakfast had cereal, fruit, juices, coffee, tea, yogurt, scrambled eggs, pancakes, tortillas. The items were rotating every two days. Next time we would pick a hotel away from the busy street. The owners were out of town, but we met their daughter, who was very delightful, helpful and super nice.
Location and service
Good location and great service
Nice, friendly owners
Poor water pressure; but otherwise nice room. Location is slightly off the centre and a bit of wall away but hptel provided free bicycles. Owners Laura and Tony are very helpful
Suites Fenicia- great choice for stay in P. del C.
We really enjoyed our stay at Suites Fenicia. Our hosts, Laury & Tony were so welcoming and pleasant. I had dietary issues and Laury went out of her way to accommodate me for this and I really appreciated it. The room is kept very clean and beds are very comfortable. Drinking water available at all times is a great touch.Located away from the main centre but very accessible with buses and collectivos at our door at a very cheap rate. Grocery stores and restaurants are nearby. Our hosts recommended the restaurant El Fogon within walking distance and the food there is excellent and reasonably priced. All in all, great place to stay while visiting Playa del Carman & area.
This was a good choice for someone passing through. It was very clean and the bed comfortable. I felt it was good value for money. It is a bit far from the center of town and from the beach for those staying any length of time. The owners/managers were very friendly and helpful.
Over Rated Reviews on Fenicia Suites
We booked in Jan. 2018. The place is being renovated and is now a construction site, with nearby buildings also under construction. Continues to operate booking Canadians who see high reviews, as I did. Negatives: 1. It's on a busy / noisy high traffic street, so it is not a relaxing place. 2. Bed was made up, but the sheets were not changed - a major turn off. 3. Frequent scraping sound until 3 am, and could not sleep until 3:30. If you are on the second level the rooms above on the third level might keep you up late into the night. 4. The breakfast is coco puffs and white bread, eggs and coffee.
Good cheap stay!
Good area and safe
Mexican home
Nice place Nice people . Confortable little pool, convenient breakfast. Presently under rénovation.
Arrived after 7PM and the room was not ready. Took them 3 hours to get it ready. The reason given was that I didn't confirm the room with a payment for high season. I didn't understand this part because the no-cancellation penalty and associated charges were already included in the hotels.com reservation, and I would have had to pay for the room anyways. The owners are extremely nice and helpful, the area convenient, near to 5th ave, beach, great cheap eats. Be ready for inefficiencies and you'd enjoy this location.
Awesome service!
The service was amazing!!! Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. The room was very clean and staff kept up with this daily. Breakfast items, drinks and refrigerator were also stocked every day. Beach items and bikes available for our use everyday. Within walking distance of beach and great shopping. We really enjoyed our week there and would very much consider this lodging again.
Well equipped
We were looking at 3-bed room and this was a perfect fit for us. Spacy, comfortable, well equipped (kitchen) even for longer stay.
Great place to stay with amazing hosts
The room was so lovely and spacious with a little kitchenette. The hosts were the most lively people. The location is good, close to the beach and avenue 5. One of the nicest places we have stayed in mexico!
Feels like a home
Mother of the owner was there to receive. What a sweetheart! Loved her immediately. They were super accommodating, had board games, sun screen, cookies, bikes, umbrellas, and just a very homey feel
Great value
We rented out two rooms to accommodate our family, and everything worked out great. The location was convenient and the amenities were upscale. The owners were very hospitable and made sure that we had an excellent stay. We enjoyed the pool in the evening, and enjoyed a nice breakfast in the morning from the provided breakfast items stocked in the room.
Just blocks from 5th avenue.
Great hosts. Nice room, could have slept four. Kitchenette for anyone who wants to cook for themselves.
Good hotel close to main tourist area.
The hosts Tony and Laury are wonderful, warm people who make you feel like you are staying with friends than staying in a hotel. Room is large with good but very basic kitchen stuff. The fridge gets stocked daily with bread, eggs, butter, etc. for you to make breakfast. Fruit and coffee are always available downstairs. Lovely outside sitting area with pool. The hosts were helpful with booking tours, making recommendations, etc. The only negative is the traffic noise. The hotel sits at a busy intersection. There are heavy wooden shutters across the street side windows but you still hear the traffic, which settles down around 11pm and starts up again around 6am. If you are sensitive to that, this might not be for you. Otherwise, we loved this place.
Clean, inexpensive, and fabulous customer service!
Great place to stay for a quick weekend to Playa! Tony and Laura are amazing hosts, very friendly and accommodating. They speak pretty good English, which was very helpful since we speak pretty bad Spanish. Tony even drove us to the bus station in his own car at 4 am so we could get back to the airport for our early flight. This place is clean and all the details are well thought out. Everything we could've needed was supplied, and I'm sure if we had needed something else they would've gotten it for us. The room was clean, although there were tiny bugs crawling around (but I'm sure that's pretty standard no matter where you stay. We had the same when we stayed in a 4 star all inclusive.) Property condition is good. We did have loud music (a man singing) at the restaurant across the street for several hours each night until about 11pm, which didn't bother us at all (we enjoyed it!) but if you have kids that you put to bed earlier, it might be an issue for you. The location was a little out of the way, but it was safe and not much of a walk. Plus with the free loaner bikes you could get anywhere easier. We did initially have a bit of a hard time finding the main entrance, just know that the entrance is on Calle 46 and it's the brown iron gates just east of the money exchange on the corner. It has a small sign on the door.
Stay by local area but only a short walk to tourist action area
Excellent for the price, if you have a car.
Superior service and wonderful extras (coffee, juices, breakfast and snacks, umbrellas, toys, beach chairs, games, etc.).
We'll be back!
This set of apartments is in a great location for getting around the charming part of Playa del Carmen. It is safe and within walking distance of 5th Avenue and local shops and the beach. We were greeted by Tony, with excellent coffee, as he showed us our comfortable room on the 2nd floor. It contained comfy beds with Mexican style decor and a great bathroom. The kitchen had everything needed to cook full meals. There is a nice outdoor area with pool, surrounded by pretty palm trees and plants. A barbecue area with gas grill is perfect for cooking your own steaks bought at a nearby grocery along with avocado salad. We used the free bicycles to ride around town and to some wonderful beaches. The owners are willing to help you with just about anything you could ask for, including information on good places to visit, eat and shop. We are already planning another with at Suites Fenicia next year!
Better than a hotel
Spent 2 nights here in January 2016. Very welcoming hosts and lots of little extras made the stay more than enjoyable. For example, complimentary use of bicycles, small food treats available at all hours, and access to BBQ facilities. Less like a hotel, but more like a good quality family run hotel with run of the house. Recommended!
Best Time - Like staying with friends and family…
We stayed 6 nights in Suites Fenicia. Booked this hotel because of the many positive reviews and quite reasonable price. This trip to Playa del Carmen we wanted to stay in town and not in a big all-inclusive resort. We must say all reviews were accurate and as a small boutique hotel it exceeded all our expectations… There are only seven tastefully furnished spacious studio suites with fully equipped kitchens and private bathrooms. Our room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. We found on our arrival the refrigerator stocked with tasty goodies to make a simple and delicious breakfast: eggs, bread, milk, orange juice, butter, fruits, etc… We also liked the location of the hotel – further away from the hustle and bustle of Fifth Street but within 10-15 minutes walking distance to beaches, restaurants and shops located on and around 5th street. The most amazing feature of our stay was the personal attention and care of the owners – Laura and Tony. They are really amazing, lovely and hospitable people who care about the comfort of their guests! They were always available for our questions and generously shared all their tips and advice… I came down with a bad cold and Tony offered to take me to the doctor and pharmacy, as well as the next day follow-up visit. We felt as if we stayed with family at Suites Fenicia, we will definitely come back!!!
Excellent small hotel in PDC
We stayed at Suites Fenicia from Nov 6-15. We loved it and would return in a heartbeat. The owners, Laura and Tony, are excellent hosts, exceedingly helpful, and will do whatever they can to make your stay enjoyable. They are very generous and genuinely interested in their guests. Though the hotel is about 15-30 minutes walk from the centre of the action in Playa del Carmen, there are lots of small, interesting restaurants in the area that offer good, authentic, Mexican fare without the crowds. Access to the beach is 10 minutes where you will find mostly local families enjoying the sand. The neighborhood is safe and easy to navigate with large grocery stores only a few minutes away. Though the suites are just off a main thoroughfare, the road noise was never an issue. Exploring the area was fun. The rooms were simple, clean, quiet, with well appointed kitchenettes. Air conditioning too. It is not luxury living, but it is definitely pretty nice. Laura and Tony have bikes, snorkels, beach towels, chairs, etc, for your use. You may not be cooking dinner in the rooms but breakfast and lunch are easy. The continental breakfasts include fruit, juices, coffee/tea,cookies, toast, etc. Everything is in your refrigerator ready for use, including lots of bottled water. We wanted for nothing.
Hidden Gem
Nice chilled hotel just back from main streets. Lovely hosts who are very welcoming and informative
Our stay in Playa del Carmern
We arrived late at night and already arranged with owner, she was waiting for us. Greeted promptly and showed our room. She was very kind and helpful, rooms are great ( big and clean). We used the bikes and beach towels as well. Overall best bang for the buck and highly recommended.
Playa Retreat
Laura and Tony were exceptionally friendly and helpful even driving us to places at times. They kept us stocked on supplies such as water and even gave us their own Olive Oil when we needed to cook. The hotel is well worth the price and is a quaint slice of homespun excellence in a town full of novelty and tourist traps. If I ever return to Playa del Carmen I plan to stay with Laura and Tony again.
Comfortable hotel - with pleasing patio and pool
The nicest parts of this hotel would be the intimate patio; the services available to you at no cost (bikes, parasols, beach chairs) and the owners. The 'saddest' part is the fact that you do NOT have a balcony to enjoy any views from, nor the ability to keep windows/sliders open due to heat entering your room. Another 'bummer' was the discovery of how payment was dealt with. When booking the room Exepdia says "collected by the hotel"; when at the hotel they asked for my cc; they charged me in 'pesos' with an exchange rate worse than what you would get if changing outside PLUS now my cc company will also charge a "foreign exchange rate" on top of what the hotel already charged. Not a happy ending....
Like Staying With Family
Staying at the Suites Fenicia was more like staying with family friends than it was staying at a hotel. Although we were only there for two nights we felt like we were welcomed to this quiet and charming location by old friends. Tony and Laury were wonderful hosts. The hotel itself doesn't feel like a hotel. From the beautiful pool to the comfortable rooms, it really feels like a cozy home away from home. It is a 10 minute walk to a small, quiet beach and also a 10 minute walk to the shopping on 5th avenue. So if you want to actually feel like you're in a different country, get away from the masses of tourists, and meet two very warm and friendly people, Suites Fenicia is for you.
great small hotel
Loved the size the suite! We had a king and a twin bed. Great ceiling fans and COLD AC.Beautiful pool and patio areas, including upstairs BBQ area. Loved having the kitchen and there is a full grocery store half a block away. There are plenty of taxis and the city bus stops right outside. We would definitely recommend and will stay here again!
Exceptional facilities with a local flavour
EXCEPTIONAL is the only word we can say about this location. We were booked from Jan 31 to Feb 4th, but liked the place so much we stayed an extra 2 days until Feb 6. The hotel is only a few bloicks away from the beach and the usual tourist ghetto area of 5th Ave in Playa del Carmen as we wanted to experience the LOCAL culture..and that we did with this location. IT IS A VERY SAFE AREA The room was very clean, spotless and had everythigng you needed, The king size bed, standard in rooms was very comfortable and just like your own home it has a new stainless steel full fridge, not a mini one, in addition to a microwave oven, cooking stove, 42 " LCD tv with excellent clear undistorted picture quality and channel choice, (even better than the high end hotel we stayed in a week eartlier in Cozumel) plus free wi-fi and a baloney looking over the real Mexican culture.... new bicylces are also available free of charge from the hotel itself. we used them often as the streets are very safe to bike on.The owner and operators of the hotel, Tony and Laura go out of their way, each and every time to make you feel welcomed to their place..Each day they leave a little something like bread, snacks etc for you to enjoy. You won't find better hosts any where else than these two fine outstanding people. They really make you feel welcomed into their home at "The Suites Fenicia".One can not say enough about their hospitality and hotel Suite Fenicia but EXCEPTIONAL AND VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
I loved this place
I loved it!!!! Laura and Tony make you feel special!! I will always stay there when I go back :)
Me encantó!
Super recomendable.

Was very happy we stayed here in PDC. Away from all the bustle of Quinta Avenida, this is still a 10- 15 minute walk from the beach areas. We liked it because it was clean, had a relaxing vibe, but a couple minutes walk from two large shipper markets and good restaurants. More a locals vibe area, more centro. Ac worked well, no humidity smells like many places, owners take very good care of maintenance and care. Highly recommend
