Poor condition stay

I didn't get the room I booked originally. I had to go several times to get enough towels and blankets. Mist importantly, the host never mentioned the renovations done one floor below us and the demolition works in the building next to us. The noise and the smell from the painting were very discomforting.

If you are travelling in a budget you will not do better then the Sparta Team Hotel. Location is fantastic, Psiri is just a few minutes walk away at the end of the road, and is a fantastic place for eating and drinking options. Omonia Square and the subway are five minutes walk away. You can walk everywhere from this hotel. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Great place to stay in a great urban location.

Room had bed bugs

The location is very convenient (15 mins walk from the Acropolis) and the people at reception are really friendly, polite and helpful. But the major issue was the presence of bed bugs. I flagged this at reception (who were not too surprised by this), checked out at midnight and moved into another hotel.

Make sure the room is clean and free of bed bugs

The location is very convenient (15 mins walk from the Acropolis) and the people at reception are really friendly, polite and helpful. But the major issue was the presence of bed bugs. We went to sleep around 11pm and 15 minutes later, saw came across many creepy bugs. I then read the google reviews and realised that this was a persistent problem faced by many guests historically. So I immediately flagged this at reception (who were not too surprised by this), checked out at midnight and moved into another hotel a couple of blocks away.

Do not stay here. The halls reek of cigarettes, the staff is passive aggressive, the walls are paper thin so you can hear the other guests loudly arguing and throwing furniture. The hotel is surrounded by homeless people setting off car alarms all through the night, and if you dare walk outside too late you will encounter a very shady night life in Athens. Extremely unimpressed with this hotel and with the staff. Avoid at all costs.

We arrived late and they were friendly on doing the check in at that hour. But so many thing were wrong. The elevator didn't have door, so you go up and down without a door. The location of the hotel is really dangerous and unsafe. The cab that came to pick us told us to hurry up because it's an area where people is always stealed. I wont recommend to go here, pay more and go to a better location.

Stayed for a week - had a bedbug issue and developed over 20 bites over the course that stay. Was told by someone who stays here once in a while that it is not an uncommon issue. After telling front desk, I was informed that the best they could do was to change my sheets, but it did not happen. The turnover rate is high and would not recommend the mixed dorm room for solo female travelers unless you are relatively comfortable with multiple male roommates. A lot of people stay for one or two nights then leave. Upon arrival, the air-conditioning was also not functioning, but they tried to fix it within a few days. Luckily it was not the peak of summer but was still quite warm and stuffy. Soundproofing is virtually non-existent: expect to be able to hear others taking calls from the next-door room. The showerhead is also a bit problematic but it's an easy fix. Bring a lock for the locker and your own towel. Overall, decent place for bare necessities of staying the night and showering. Staff did try their best to help me and were helpful and friendly. The place is quite old - operating since 1960s, so breakdowns are to be expected but I had a brief conversation with the owner who helped me resolve an issue at night, he was helpful and engaging. Conclusion: Would not recommend except for extreme budgeting and bare necessities of a bed shower.

BED BUGS- AVOID AND READ REVIEWS

Place should not be allowed to operate. Hotel is riddled in bed bugs. Staff are completely aware and don’t care. We asked to change rooms and the second room had more bed bugs. We arrived late so ended at walking around Athens at 4am to try find another hotel so that we didn’t spread the infestation. Complete health and safety risk. DO NOT BOOK. READ THE REVIEWS FIRST. Refused a refund.

Dirty, unpleasant, unfriendly staff

It is a dirty, gross hostel. Many hostels are quite nice to stay at, but this one is really dirty, cramped. The staff are very unprofessional and not friendly. The pictures on their ad don't match what its really like. The neighbourhood (especially at night), is sketchy and unsafe. There are drugs, and garbage and graffiti everywhere. If you're looking to save some money on your trip, try elsewhere.

Unfriendly staff, dirty and crowded dorms, doesn't look like the photos at all, bathrooms were all broken and dirty. If you want to save money on your trip, don't go here, not worth it. The neighbourhood is really dirty and covered in graffiti, smells like urine, and sketchy looking. I made a 3 week reservation because it was inexpensive, but I showed up after midnight because my flight, and they cancelled my reservation and kept all my money. Front desk wanted me to pay them a second time to stay. I stayed the one night because I was too tired to be making reservations in the middle of the night. It was not worth the stay.

Disgusting

This "hotel" should be closed down immediately! AVOID! ⚠️⚠️ Bed bugs absolutely infested in our room, crawling everywhere! Disgusting hygiene, grotty shower and toilet. We knew not to expect much for the price, but this was absolutely unhygienic and infested! Other group checking in at the same time as us saw their room, and immediately left. We decided to stay to try it, only to realise 2 hours later that our room was crawling with bed bugs. Very very unsafe area, especially for women. We were warned by waiters to avoid this area. On the only positive note, the receptionist was friendly. SHOULD BE CLOSED DOWN !!! 🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫🚫

Hostal was close to centre, about 10-15 walking. The reception area smelled horrible all the ten days we were there. We found about 3 roaches in our room, my daughter end up with bed bugs on her, we had to wait for 20 mins for hot water, and WiFi didn’t work, it work for 10 percent of the time we were there. We mostly relied on the hop on bus WiFi or the restaurant to communicate. Not worth it, there are others places around in a much better condition. Oh and the towels had stains on it “disgusting” we asked for new ones and they said we had to wait for 3 days to get towels changed

This property was in a unsafe area that needed police around 24/7. As a young woman I felt unsafe staying in this hotel. The deadbolt in the room was broken. When we tried to talk to the manager about our concerns he laughed at us. We tried to check out early as we did not feel safe and the management was rude and they refused to refund or give us a cancellation fee. We had booked for 4 nights and felt so unsafe we didn’t stay for any. We ended up having to pay for the a hotel we didn’t stay in. Overall terrible experience.

First of all, they charged me an extra "tourist fee", which no one had informed me about. I assumed I had paid when transferring the money to you? Secondly, the place had freaking bed bugs!! When I informed them, the manager started speculating and said that it was probable that it was me who had brought them in. I had never seen one before and know of no one in Denmark that has had them. I came from Copenhagen via Athens airport and went directly to the hotel. I got another room right above, where the bugs also were (they can live in walls and pass through small cracks). When I informed them again, the manager repeated: "Where ever you go, they go. So do you wanna leave?" I said, "Yes, if I get my money back for the days ahead". He didn't bother reacting, but ignored what I said and gave me a new room, luckily without bed bugs. Instead, there was a 3.5 cm cockroach!! The place is not clean. The toilets are filthy. On the groundfloor, in this cramped, dark, closed off room, they served the breakfast that was not at all a buffet, which I had paid for??? Most of the food I couldn't eat, and they were not flexible when I asked for a few things. The eating section was frequently visited by shady men who didn't seem to stay at the hotel. The cleaning staff was kind and friendly, but most people in the reception were impolite. Why did you call it breakfast buffet? And why didn't you tell me about the extra fee?? /Marc Wilkins

Disappointing services, facilities & rude workers

The agent who welcomed me was unfriendly not just to me but others too and very rude when I asked a question as I didn't understand the lighting system. The one who came in the morning was however professional. The beds were shaky and squeeky. The lighting system is silly because you couldn't charge your phone if you took the key out to go out. In the night, whilst you're charging your phone, whoever's key is in the switch can end your charge if they took their key out. If you're fast asleep you'd wake with no charge. Or you'd have to get off your bed to insert your key. But what happens when and if someone takes your key whilst you're asleep? There are no charging ports in the safe either. Would not recommend.

Bed bugs, no AC, and pests on the wall!!!

It was terrible. Hot, no AC, bed bugs, other pests on wall/floors. Bathrooms were very unclean and the shower is very small/hard to use. Also when you leave you have to leave your key with the front desk... this makes no sense. Just sets you up for being robbed or have your items stolen as anyone could walk up and claim your key since they don't ask for ID when you go back to get it. And before you ask no they won't remember your face as I saw multiple people at the counter and when you leave for 10 hours at a time there surely will be someone else working when you get back. I can't say enough how bad the bed bugs were I have to leave after one night. I woke up itchy and with about 30 welts on my body. Terrible. Also was sweating all night as there was no AC and this made for a long, terrible, sleepless night. Avoid at all cost! Literally a place called Athens Hawks right next door that is 100x better for similar price.I also will advise you the area is very rough during the day and night. Be cautious especially if you are a female traveler.

They don't care about people, despite I had sent an e-mail saying I was still going as my flight was late, they threw me out on the street, unless I paid twice from 6 am until 2pm then pay again from there, and also despite I have lost all my six days preciously booked. They are capitalist and are carelless about people's life. I was walking around in that dangerous neighbourhood, looking for another hotel and they have refused to refund me, since they have already passed my bed to some unlucky one else, they should have done that. Thank God, I found a very pleasant and comfortable hotel, I paid €30 a day, a little bit more for the weekend, but with a high quality service and a wonderful breakfast included. I hope the lady in there can sleep well after what she did to me, I went up and down dragging my luggage, all because all they only mind is money, then they blame it on the policy created by themselves.

Get what you pay for

This review is based on the price. I stayed in a private room for 3 nights and paid the same as a night at a not-much-better hotel round the corner (my friend’s we’re staying at). The actual street, its self, is not the nicest but once you off it you’re in the best past of Athens for vibrant restaurants, cafes & bars. The room is basic but spacious and comfortable. Reception were friendly and helpful. If looking for somewhere super affordable, I’d get a private room here.

Requested s double bed. Indtrad recieved to singles pushed together, with dirty sheets over the top. There was what looked liked used band aids stuck to the inside of the cupboard door. The shower head in the communal bathroom had broken and sharp little peices had been left all over the floor of the cubicle. The room ws extremely hot. The air conditioning was unable to be adjusted to actually cool the room down and the main light flickered when the ceiling fan was used. I had stayed before in a shared dorm room hich had not been so bad. But don't go here if you want a private room

Hotel was better than expected but the neighbourhood was a bit dodgy . Location was good but I won’t suggest it if you’re travelling alone

Terrible location, terrible hotel

In the years I have been travelling and staying in hotels/hostels I have never feared for my safety around the streets its located in. I wanted a cheap and cheerful hotel, but this was something else. I could hear a dog running around above, the balcony door didn't lock, no duvets are supplied just a blanket, the pillows may as well had bricks inside the pillowcase.

Athens

I have already sent a response. The lady on night shift was lovely and filled up my hot water bottle for free. Yes there was a fridge in the room but it does not work or plug in. We did se reception and asked could we please be moved to a quieter room. We were told no. We were right outside the men's common toilet. Even though we had paid for our own bathroom. We realise the hotel can not control the street people outside but guests need to know this is not a safe area of Athens. We are still in Athens in another budget hotel and the area is much safer.

No wifi, scary location.

- We had 2 hours working wifi during the 4 night we stayed. - As reviews says street IS spooky. We were 2 guys and 1 girl and we didn't feel safe (we are from South america and we have travelled for 2 years and still. First time we have ever feel unsafe abroad). - Room smelled weird. - We didn't fully understand if they clean the rooms or not. Some days they would make the bed, some days they would make 2 out of 3. one day none. Don't know. - It felt weird to leave the keys at recepcion on a cheap hotel. Not like it matter as cleaning staff has keys anyway.

Never book this area. It is the most dangerous area in Athens, dirty, slummy, horrible location and area, full of garbage on the streets. Can not come to the street after 7pm.

Good girl to stay in. Close to the centre and mins away from transportation links. WiFi and to work at times . Had to rely more on my own data network as I sometimes had difficulty connecting to hotel WiFi. Aside from the hotel, surrounding areas aren't all that clean and may seem like a shady area to be in during the evening. Would still recommend this hotel.

Good basic hotel

It's a good option for basic, inexpensive hotel. It's really close to the tourist centre of Athens; a few minutes walk. The only thing is that the street looks is pretty dodgy: a very dirty street with rubbish bins full everywhere and rubbish on the street, and with graffiti everywhere: and not the artistic kind; not just on the buildings but on some of the vehicles. Seems to be a lot of homeless people around, some of whom appeared to be junkies. That said: we had absolutely no trouble walking up and down this street, even at night. It was a bit of a shock when we first saw the street at first, but given that we had no problems and since it was cheap and so close to the centre, I still think it was a good choice if that's what you're looking for. The hotel itself was well maintained and clean and the staff were lovely and really helpful.

Decent for a 1 star hotel.

Good hotel, location is the only negative point about it. For a 1 star hotel, it's fine. It's clean and the staff are friendly. Albeit some of the domestics were smoking indoors in the corridors which I assume is not allowed.

Avoid this place

We woke up in the middle of the night because of bed bugs bites. The night receptionist didn't apologise whatsoever. We even caught the bugs with tissues to show her but she didn't even look at it and just threw it in the bin. Its probably because this issue happens all the time. We had to ask to change rooms. Rooms were very basic and small. It's quite cramped. They have very old furnitures, some with holes in the wood (probably why bed bugs are common in that hotel). There are many uncovered holes on the wall (from pipe, sink, etc). This is why insects can easily get into the rooms. The blanket was only a piece of bed sheet. Some of them even have blood stains (presumably from the crushed bed bugs). Wifi was super slow! They have two servers for rooms but both cannot be connected properly. Dirty neighbourhood. Mountains of rubbish that weren't cleaned for days. Streets were wet with puddles everywhere and it smelled like pee. Based on the hotels replies from previous reviews, they claimed no responsibility for the bedbugs and insects as they do "disinfectation". Clearly this isn't working. Furthermore, disinfectation alone does not kill bedbug eggs! Old furnitures must be disposed and replaced. Holes on the wall sockets and under the sink must be closed and drains should be cleaned with proper chemicals to avoid insects!

Stumbled upon bedbugs

Although the stay seemed really nice and the room was fitted to its price, after a few days me and my partner were both covered in bedbug bites. they changed our room, but we decided to leave. had to clean all our clothes. the personnel had been very nice, but when we asked for some help with doing all our laundry they refused and were quite mean about it. Choose somewhere nicer and in a different neighborhood.

Bed bugs

Woke up in the middle of the night with bed bugs crawling all over. Went to shower and leave and there was a large roach on the wall in the bathroom. Told receptionist about our experience and why we were leaving at 2am and she said sorry and that we could switch rooms. Needless to say we weren't interested in that, and she still did not offer a refund or anything. Not a pleasant experience.

Didn't even stayed there

After reading feedback of previous visitors, decided not to use this place. My bigest shock was the bed bugs! I mean common - should I pay money for something like that? Also there is no refund for the money paid... I regret I read the experience of others after I paid the booking...

The neighbourhood is TERRIBLE, we didn't feel safe at all, the staff is ok, the room is small, dirty and didn't hat wot water, but most of all, in the morning we discovered HUGES BEDBUGS all over the bed and on our stuff! The staff didn't seems surprised when we told them....... worst experience ever in a hotel.

You get what you pay for

This hotel is ideal for friends travelling on a budget, or single male travelers. If you are a single female traveler, don't book the mixed dorm. I usually opt for this, but their rooms are only 3 beds, and I ended up having to be moved around until we found the least creepy resident. (Most of the people I've met at that hotel are living there short term for work, or as refugees.) That being said the staff is amazing and helpful : they let me store groceries I bought in their fridge, they moved me with no hesitation and apologized profusely about the creepy guys in my room. Facilities are average, great for traveling on a budget, not if you want luxury. There is no such thing as a "smoke-free" room, as everyone in Greece is a smoker, or close to it. Even if you're in a private room odds are the previous tenant was smoking in there. This hotel is halfway between Omonia and Monistiraki metro stations: two main stops for tourist buses and close to Ancient Agora and Hadrian's Library.

You get what you pay for

It was a good hotel for the price (20bucks a night) my husband and I got the cheapest rate to spend more of our money in Athens ^^ so we got a room where you share a hallway bathroom which was not as convenient when needed but the room was clean the bathroom and shower were clean, the hotel staff was very nice, only deal breaker is that the area is not as nice as the city center and its about a 20min walk to Syntagma Square which is closest bus stop to and from ATH airport. So just a tip its a little north of where the flea market is not in the center but close enough and a bargain for the price.

Pay a little, get a little.

We quickly discovered we were in a horrible part of town when our taxi driver walked us into the hotel and told us to be careful. The staff were amazing at the hotel and people watching was fun. On our second night we found bedbugs though, which really wasn't impressive. Lots of cat calling in that neighbourhood but it was very close walking to almost everything. No air conditioning but the fan kind of worked. We got what we paid for, and I can't really blame anyone else.

In a shady location. Surroundings uninviting.

Elevator without inner door. Not safe. Double room very small (204). Receptionist not too helpful. Good hot water. Linen clean. No covering sheet/blanket. Lot of scope for improvement.
