I stayed at Southern Palms Resort in Diani for two nights, and while the property is stunning with one of the most beautiful swimming pools I’ve seen, my overall experience was mixed. The resort has a relaxing vibe, and most of the staff were friendly and welcoming. However, there were a few things that really affected my stay. First, there was no internet the entire time, and every time we asked about it, we were told it was being fixed—but nothing changed. It felt like we were being misled rather than given honest updates. Another issue was with our half-board meal plan. Upon check-in, we asked at the reception if we could swap our dinner for lunch on one of the days. They assured us that it was absolutely possible. But when the time came and we approached management, they completely denied it at the last minute. This caused a lot of inconvenience and showed a clear lack of coordination or willingness to honor what had been agreed upon earlier. Overall, it’s a beautiful place with great potential, but the poor communication and lack of reliability really took away from the experience. If internet and flexible service matter to you, keep this in mind before booking.
They were good 10/10
The exterior and common areas are nice but the hotel is dirty. All coushions in common areas are stained and clearly dirty. The room was extremely humid and smelled like mold, which was clearly visible in the shower. With the excellent of maybe 3 staff members out of maybe 10+ that I came in contact with, were friendly. Everyone else seemed bothered when asked for help, especially the staff at the general dining area. The exterior is nice but not worth the stay. This property is also far from the main beach area with nearby restaurants so research the area before booking.
Loved our stay! We came here for a wedding and the staff were very attentive and accommodating! Would highly recommend this resort if staying in Mombasa.
Easy access to beautiful beach
Rita a Very Happy WifeY .. xXx
Amazing Stay for My Wife's Birthday and on Valentines Day also [same day].. ♡♡
Peaceful, awesome and worth the health.
it was decent, did not expect much from it, it is what you would expect from an all inclusive property
The swimming pools are lovely all around the hotel. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The snacks restaurant is fantastic and lots of choices ar the main restaurant.
It was good.
Beautiful hotel, clean, great food and service. Beautiful white sandy beaches. Great swimming pools ! Love this location
We enjoyed our stay. The facilities were nice and the food options were adequate. However, we were disappointed to hear the entertainment was sponsored by Safaricom, a service visiting tourist have never used before nor will ever use. We would have preferred to listen to music rather than sales people talking on microphones all evening about a local service that is otherwise irrelevant to us.
Its ok
Good services and customer care
Southern Palms Diani Kenya
Resort had positives and negatives. Encountered wi-fi issues for 6 days before they sorted it out. The cupboards in the room did not shut, and the todt seat was loose but fixed eventually. Food generally was good on a half board basis. The staff were the resl stars of this resort. The beach setting is trully amazing. I would say the owners need to make investment into the property to stay competitive.
Very Average stay Rooms are quite comfortable but small and basic Much better resorts available on diani beach Wedding going on all day and night so very loud and not very relaxing WiFi is terrible, the shower isn’t very good
Beautiful location with a stunning beach but properly needs a little updating here and there. The internet was terrible so I would not recommend to anyone who is going to throw in some work time or anything that requires a steady network. Food was not bad and service was good otherwise.
A Wonderful Stay - Perfect for Families
My wife and I, along with our 10-month-old baby, had the pleasure of staying at Southern Palms in Mombasa in September 2024, and it was an absolutely delightful experience. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm smiles and exceptional hospitality. We were made to feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The food at the resort was nothing short of amazing – we truly could spend the entire day indulging in the variety of delicious offerings. We would like to acknowledge the incredible staff who made our stay extra special: - John (porter) for his cheerful welcome and helpful nature. - Walter in the buffet restaurant, who went above and beyond to ensure our baby was comfortable and happy during meal times. - Rodgers for his friendly greetings every evening at dinner. - Winnie for taking the time to play with our baby and keeping him entertained, adding a personal touch to every meal. - Defence, whom we have a special thanks for. She made sure all of our baby’s meals were prepared exactly as needed with fresh ingredients, showing genuine care for his well-being. - Elias for his warm hospitality at the restaurant. - Katherine for her bubbly personality and always having fresh fruit ready for our baby. - Sande from housekeeping, who was incredibly attentive and made sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. - Benjamin for helping us with beach beds and providing such friendly service
This resort is great. Food choice is excellent and staff so friendly and helpful. The beach is excellent, everything was fantastic and very relaxing after a week's safari.
This hotel has the most amazing food and staff! Indian vegetarian plus no onion and garlic food also available , fully cater for the Indians , and not forgetting a vast range on European, continental Chinese, Italian , they have it all!! Rooms are a little dated , but how Much time do you spend in them anyway ? If you don’t like noise , ask for a room away from where the entertainment is every night , it can get loud! Also be wary of any weddings that might be happening as this can take over the resort and it’s not a problem but you might not get any peace and quiet. Beach is beautiful! There’s beach boys selling stuff , remember to haggle. There is also some girls on the beach from a hut a bit further along the beach on the left who do the most amazing massages and cheap! You can hear the waves !That’s if you don’t want to use the resort facilities. All in all a great resort with lots of options! Even though we had a few niggles it didn’t spoil the beach time we so desperate craved !
We enjoyed once we upgraded to a much better room. Loved everything. 3rd time to stay and already planning a return.
Indian food every single day. No sea food either..
Okay stay at the hotel. Encountered both amazing and rude staff. Food was really good. However had to queue for some foods during breakfast.
Many staff members dont speak English. It was difficult to make them understand your needs
The beachfront room, white sand and the staff everywhere. Food was very good and all the vegetarian options. Chef Kamal was very accommodative for the special requests.
Beautiful setting.
Very pleasant stay. Brilliant foodoptipns at a choice of restaurants. Good nigjt entertainment and felt very safe. Brilliant place to stay and will likely be returning
Party of seven all satisfied!
We had an amazing stay at this resort. The place was clean and VERY well kept. Staff was plentiful and all made sure that we were comfortable and happy. Rooms were good size and supplied with drinking water, refrigerator, safe, etc. The food was all-inclusive including alcoholic beverages. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, BBQ, all served on time with lots of choices. There were seven of us with different tastes, allergies, and dietary requirements and the menu met all of them. They served plenty of fresh fruit, egg free breads/desserts (a couple of people in our group could not have eggs and were happy to see a choice of items without them), meat choices, and vegetarian dishes as well. Fresh juices with every meal (pineapple being my favorite). There’s a pizza station, ice cream station, and a bar near one of the many pools. The grounds were well kept, pool kept clean, water aerobics sessions were fun, and nightly entertainment, along with a beautiful beach. This is not a new property but WE ENJOYED ourselves and would return. Also, treat yourself to a “four hands body massage “ where two massage therapist work on you at the same time- WONDERFUL!!!
Beautiful Property
We lost our glasses and received a run around from management without resolution. Keep possessions on you.
Large resort with big pools, nice clean beach and plenty of food selection
We stayed here for 9 days and I have not enjoyed another resort as much I have enjoyed southern palms, the food, staff, rooms, location and service is amazing. I could not fault it one bit and I will definitely be coming back. Thank you to the staff and management at Southern Palms ♥️
FOOD IS EXCELLENT they are rigid when you receive guest who want to visit you.We were given specific few hours the guests can stay at the property and when you see them after 10 years . we were ready to pay for what they consume but made us uncomfortable . overall experience very good
Lovely hotel! We had a great time!
The staff are nice and friendly. The entertainment is too loud and noisy every night until 11:00 pm.
I had a good stay, after having to complain about air-conditioning not working and wi-fi signal isn't strong enough for inside your room. When the place is at maximum capacity there is no wifi accept in the recession area
Beautiful property, and amazing staff. Great food and drinks, very satisfied. Went with my new Fiancé and had too much fun. Ocean front room was great, comfortable bed, hot shower, impressed!
We loved the property itself! Rooms were amazing and we enjoyed the beach and the pool. The only complaint we have is the food. It lacks options and the same selections are served everyday. It lacks variety so you get tired of eating the same things. Absolutely loved the romantic dinner on the beach and the food within that was absolutely delicious
My family and i totally loved the place. It had a ll amenities with friendly and supportive staff. I would definately come back ☺️
When we arrived the fist day we were instantly greeted by staff and our bags were taken which was great. Check in was smooth and while headed to our room staff explained where everything was on the property. Now we had a long 24 hour flight to come to Diani so we had a bite to eat and walked to beach. By 9pm we were ready for bed, however there was a party right under our balcony until midnight. We called the front desk and explained to them that we were exhausted, they said they would call right back. 30 minutes later i called back to follow up. She said the party would be going until midnight but she would have the manager call back to see if there was a new room to switch to. No one ever called back of course. The next evening we were having dinner ar the buffet style restaurant, when we got up to get our supper the manager was yelling at the employees, about who was on what station. Right in the center of the room. I felt so bad for the staff. When we got back to the room another party was going on however i already knew if i called there wasnt going to be anyone to help me. Out AC leaked on the smaller bed, when i called about that they said they would send someone out but no one came so i had to share a bed with my roommate. The pool was filled with bugs that will swim and attach themself to you but that is no fault of the resort, and when u walk the beach it will not be in peace because many people will come to sell you things and excursions. Overall 3 at best.
Very beautiful
Southern Palms may at first glance look modern day hotel but it is outdated built in 1990’s perhaps and lacking finesse. Rooms are substandard with minimum facilities & you are charged for every extra luxury! There is price dripping- room safe rental, extra charge for additional bottles of water, no iron facilities. Any service required from staff took a long time before responding! Meals were more catered for Indian tourists & could be repetitive. Personally I would not recommend this hotel if you are from overseas and not local Kenyan!!
The property hosts wedding which makes lot of noise and mess for other guests Music doesn't stop until 2am and they serve the same food for lunch and dinner The hotel won't tell you they have a wedding, means stay will be very noisy Try to avoid this hotel
good
we enjoyed our stay not the first time . unfortunately they don't provide slippers/ food was ok but no nyama choma. we where restricted to whatever was available.
Excellent resort with good facilities. Wi-Fiwas poor as it kept disconnecting.
The staff are excellent especially Mwasha and Elias
Loved the food spread at every meal
All inclusive food and drinks were very good especially Food was good quality. Staff very helpful.
Huduma Murwa, Hoteli Safi, wafanyakazi wapole na wenye heshima tu, mandhari kemkem. Kweli lazima tena nije Diani kwa ajili ya uzuri wa hoteli hii!!!
This was a beautiful resort. The pools and grounds were well maintained. There was abundant staff and all were welcoming. We felt very safe at this resort and well taken care of. The food selection was good and they had many different options available. The only thing I didn't care for was the people asking to buy products while relaxing on the beach. There likely isnt much the resort can do about this and there was security around, but it didnt feel relaxing to be asked to go shop when you just wanted to listen to the ocean waves. Just noting for others to be aware of this. I would highly recommend this resort and the ocean front room was beautiful!
- Wifi was unreliable - had to ask for fresh towels for my room. Otherwise I assume the expect you to reuse the same one. -Appearance of the bedroom was a bit deceptive compared to pictures on websites. - Friendly staff they were awesome, helpful and trustworthy. - Not a good location for a young couple (35/48 we found the entertainment Boring and like child’s play) Good location for those with children. -Stained bed sheets were disturbed, pen marks, dried blood etc. -Food was good but redundant. -No iron in the bedrooms, staff will assist you with ironing for a fee. At the end of the day, I wouldn’t book again. It just wasn’t a fin time for me.
Property is on beach itself and has 2 huge pools. Well maintained and helpful staff. Highly recommended for vegetarians
The staff was amazing. There was a variety in food and it was very relaxing
Property, staff, food were all great.
The food was wanderful, the pool abd the beach ⛱️. Everything was great except the air conditioning system . It was working but not cooling which made me sleep at the balcony just because I couldn't deal with the heat inside the room
The hotel was not as advertised at all and they and Expedia have refused to refund my stay (I was unable to stay there as it was filthy and unsafe)
Check in was a nightmare. They had given our room away and the night staff was very unfriendly and a bit rude.
Overall it was okay, but I liked one staff member in particular. She was very professional, reliable and vigilant. Christine Museve
Amazing!!
Very nice
All-inclusive was definitely the way to go! So much fun and more than worth the money
A large complex with two great pools and fantastic beach. The service is excellent and everyone is really keen to make sure you have a fantastic holiday. An amazing variety of food available all day- particularly good veggie options. Local drinks are included and the cocktails are great - Jackson in the main bar makes an amazing frozen banana daiquiri!! Really enjoyed our week.
Great stay, good food, friendly staff.
The gym was not operating. Loud music from 9pm to 11pm. You are not able to relax after dinner in your room due to noise. TVs not connected to Internet or all channels available to watch when chilling.
The resort being next to the beach made going to the beach a lot easier. Staff were freindly and very helpful. The resort and beach were absolutely amazing, the experience overall was beautiful.
Excellent resort all around. Amazing facilities, amenities and food. Best hotel experience ever. A big thank you to all the amazing staff as well.
Lovely place to vacation
Excellent hotel with responsive staff members
They gave us our room and then told us to pack again as they made a mistake of giving us the wrong room. We had already unpacked and expected us to repack and move again, which we said we were not prepared. They did not give us Water in our room for the 1st two days. They then gave us botted water but did not have openers to open the bottle. so was not able to drink water. We had to go to the Bar to get water and put it our own bottle. The 2nd day we did not get any towel in our room till 4pm. how do we go the the Beach or swimming pool with these towels. to add to insult the next day they brought torn towel for us to us. The phone in the room never worked, so what ever we needed we had to go all the way to the reception to request for it. This was very inconvenient.
Room cleanliness not satisfactory
Staff are friendly but seem to be overwhelmed. Instead of availing gloves at serving stations for guests to serve themselves, they insisted on staff serving each guest which resulted in longer queues at serving stations and this could also be the reason why they were fewer chefs manning cooking stations which also resulted in longer queues. They seem to prioritise vegetarian food and hence variety for no vegetarian is poor. On getting to our room we found stained pillow cases and the bed and pillows had hair despite waiting for more than an hour for the room to be ready. The bathroom walls had grime, meaning they are not scubbed regularly. and our room floor was always grainy and had hair even after cleaning by the room service staff.
Amazing place, kind and helpful staff.
Renovated rooms are a big improvement although it’s little things like dripping air conditioners, hard to open patio doors and duvets that are one size too small that detract from the effort. Front desk staff were excellent, as were the rest of staff generally. Although, on both evenings I saw restaurant supervisors and staff engage in bickering/ confrontation on the service floor - not a good look. Buffet is really ordinary in terms of range and quality of food and the house wine is poor, it tasted like it had been watered down. Outdoor pools and facilities are great.
The swimming pools were very well kept and maintained every day. All of the hotel staff were very accommodating, friendly and professional.
Nice secure location, beautiful pool and amazing beach. Dated property - needs to be renovated. Displays a variety of cuisine, but could do better with its quality. After three days you will see the same items served again. Thanks to Ester, Defence, Sarah, Wambua and Saidi. They made our stay worth it!
The WiFi was poor, the gym was not well equiped, the drinks list for all-inclusive were of poor quality, and the pools were being closed way too early!
