Great location
Awesome food & stafff
This was a unique experience, the accomodation was great & central to Halfmoon bay, staff were friendly & helpful.
.
We love the South Sea and stay there every time we spend the night at Rakiura. The staff are awesome. Its not flash - old pub accomodation, but its traditional, clean and welcoming. Perfect views and the food is amazing.
Very homely, beautiful spot and friendly, helpful staff
All of the above
Everything was great no problems
The staff was fantastic and very informative. Very easy access to Ferry Terminal - about a 3 minute walk.
A unique hotel on an incredible island. People were friendly. The restaurant and bar offered a wonderful and authentic atmosphere and great food. A wonderful experience.
Very convenient quirky, I haven't stayed in a hotel without an ensuite in a long time. Nice area upstairs overlooking the bay, with tea and coffee facilities. I would recommend staying here
On the harbor
Convenient location
Very nice basic accommodations with beautiful views of the harbor. The staff was very friendly and accommodating!
Stewart Island stay
Good stay at good old Kiwi pub. Prices were fair and food and drink was good Would definitely stay there again
We paid for a room that was advertised as sea view. What we weren’t told was that our sea view would be obscured, during the day, by people using the second floor porch! If we opened our curtains during the day, people using the porch and picnic tables could look right into our room. If we closed our curtains we of course didn’t have a sea view at all. We could hear conversations as if people were right in our room. This continued on into the night—people weren’t supposed to use the porch after 8 but were often there, talking, laughing and carrying on, after midnight. No one enforced the 8 rule. It really wasn’t anyone’s idea of a sea view.
Disgusting do not stat here
We arrived to a rude man who clearly felt he had more important things to do than make an effort to make guests checking in feel welcome. Not a good start and then to the rooms - basic is okay but to not even provide a bedside lamp is lazy. The room was just filthy from the curtains that we’re falling off the hooks, to the window sills that had layers of dust on to the inside of the one bedside table between two. The cleaning team didn’t service my room even though i hung the sign. That was the first room. The second room I had had period blood stains and so on starkly on the top duvet and stank of urine. Just completely disgusting and horrific.
Quaint old style hotel with shared bathrooms and shower rooms. Clean and comfy. Might be noisy as the bar is right below our room, but on Sunday quilted down early. Dinner was spectacular in the dining room! Definitely recommended!
This iconic hotel is in the centre of Oban. You can all to everywhere food is good. Very very clean rooms
The staff were friendly and accommodating the room was really clean comfodouble, Great location Very sensibly priced ,would definitely stay there again any time. Thanks cheers Dave
Great place to stay on Stewart Island. Easy access from the ferry and walkable everywhere. Bar was excellent and laundry facilities a real help
Hotel was great! You need to go for Quiz night!!
Too basic
The accomodation was back packer standard without the kitchen facilities and the wifi was nearly non existant
What a great spot, so easy from the ferry and access to trips around the island. The hotel had everything we needed for a few days and the meals and hospitality was fantastic. Highly recommend.
All we needed
Great views from this relaxed hotel. Not posh but well priced accordingly. Upstairs landing tea station very handy. Upstairs lounge with fabulous view comfortable.
We had a really nice stay at South Sea Hotel. Unfortunately, we had the last room and Wifi didn't reached our room.
excellent location, dinning options
Clean, reasonably priced, comfortable accommodation after tramping... highly recommend.
Got, the job done well. Bit dated, but the pin was great.
Very central to everything for us and great dining.
The hotel was in the perfect location! I could easily walk around town and into the national park! The cafe and restaurant had great food and was super convenient! The facilities were great and the room was very private!
It had a convenient location to all activities and the section we stayed in was relatively new
Good service & amazing views
Superb location for any visit to Oban
This was my 4th time staying in the south seas and I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else...unless I win the lotto then I'll build a house, anyway..I love its quirkiness and its heritage. Staff are happy to help if they can and always give a smile. The food is amazing and the quiz night is a laugh. The lounge room upstairs is always warm and cosy with an awesome view. Loved my stay and will be back next year!
Enjoyed everything accessible and convenient and friendly people
Character stay
Great location and restaurant downstairs and friendly staff. Rooms and common areas could do with a bit of a spruce up and attention. Light was flickering and needed a new bulb and fresh paint and new blinds that close in the room would be nice. New furniture in the common area to replace the old couches that are very worn would also be nice to enjoy the wonderful view from.
Very noisy and staff quite unfriendly.
1800s Hotel very cool
We didnt expect much from our visit to the island as we know the facilities and amenities are very limited due to the remoteness of the place, however as much as we were prepared for the 'basic' facitlies we really feel that some of the decor/furniture was in dire need of updating a replacing. However, we did feel safe and comfortable. Dining room food was lovely.
Very handy to everything. Lovely views from upstairs lounge. Comfortable couches in the bar. Bed was comfortable. Staff were friendly. Good place to stay.
Southsea hotel is conveniently located to the flight centre, ferry terminal and the beach. The place was adequate for a good night’s rest.
Friendly staff ready to help very flexible and relaxed
old and creaky but rustic
Loved the place
Very warm & cosy. Limited food options
The staff from check in to maid service was exceptional. Nothing was a problem.
Great location, good restaurant.
It was so peaceful to look out over halfmoon bay even though lots of visitors.
We loved that is was the local hub of the community. Staff were friendly. Some of the meals were less than expected.
Right on the waterfront in Horseshoe Bay, handy to everything. Stayed in single room, it was clean, showers were awesome, loads of towels, plenty of toilets to use. The wee kitchen was for all to use and well stocked. All in all comfy comfy
Great service, nice room, nice food, great location . A bit noisy for oldies from young ones down below doing what young ones do. All good after 10.30
Close to everything
Really enjoyed our stay- comfortable, quaint, great location, accessible to everything, lively pub and a good restaurant.
Best place to go.
I had a great time and lovely meals in the bar also the staff where very friendly and helpful 😊
Close to everything and a great Pub
Great location, friendly staff and good food at the hotel
So close to wharf, fantastic setting and views, unique. A little noisy sleeping above the bar but no trouble getting to sleep after a big days walk.uUits at rear of property were great
Great Location, popular pub with good view. Helpful staff but the accommodation is in desperate need of renovation.
It is a quirky ol pub which makes it an experience rather than just a night in a motel.
Checked in early no problem
.
Lovely staff, clean room with everything we needed, perfectly placed in the lovely town.
Atmosphere
Enjoyed the location and ambience. Meals were overpriced for what we got. It would have been good to have had the tea/coffee aree on the first floor maintained. I think the hotel was overwhemed with visitors.
Great stay at the South Seas over Christmas. Great meals at the restaurant and a great locality.
We stayed in the motel units behind the hotel and it was a cool place to stay - tidy, clean, good kitchenette. Very happy with our room and with the food, drink and atmosphere in the hotel. Fantastic at getting food orders out to a large crowd on a Saturday night.
Awesome location and facilities. Proximity to sea, supermarket and cafes
The Hotel had everything you needed for a relaxed holiday, the staff were very accomidating and a great view from a relaxing lounge.
Very convenient and nice
Obans best
I liked its location. Near to the harbour, supermarket, i centre and museum. Bar and food in the same building
Stewart Island - Old World New Zealand
Convenient place to stay. Food was good in restaurant. Motel units a little tired but quite satisfactory. Were glad we chose to stay there.
Great atmosphere, cool building, great location. Nice staff. Very friendly.
The location was great, center of everything with a pub and restaurant in the building.
Our room was lovely and the service by staff was friendly and efficient.
It was nice
The staff were not friendly and everything felt like a hassle. The room was nice but very cold as was the bar area. Good food. Good pressure in the showers.
Best shower ever.
A chance to experience a hotel with old fashion amenities
Magnificent location ; friendly staff ; unit 22 had some loose exterior panels that banged with the wind .
Great stay
Enjoyed our stay, typical old school hotel, comfortable beds, everyone was friendly, food was tasty. Bit of a noise issue with booming music from downstairs bar, there were ear plugs supplied in the room but really they didn’t quite cut the mustard. Loved the location especially the view from the guest lounge
Clean, good price, good location.
Hotel is very much the social centre of the community. The staff were very friendly and very laid back. Facilities were more than acceptable.
Lovely old building. Very clean and tidy. Shared bathrooms were in good condition and well cleaned. Bar/restaurant was very well priced and served up nice food. Almost here was fun and very welcoming
Great place to stay
Comfortable but could do with some refurbishing.
it was all lovely
Friendly and convenient
The property has a great location, and offers a range of accommodation. I stayed in one of the units behind the main hotel which is essentially a motel room. The food was good. The hotel is popular with visitors and locals. There is a lounge for guests upstairs in the main building that has a great view of the harbour. Great place if you need to make a work call while there.
Great place
Very comfy bed, good location bright and good size room but shower barely ok. Reception staff sulky and 3 coffee sachets for a 4 night stay for 2 people? Very hard to cajole out more. Overpriced but captive audience I guess. However food in restaurant and pub excellent and restaurant sevice good But no coffee after 1 pm???
Location, location, location
Only place in town
waterfront location brilliant. customer service not great
Classic old style hotel, comfortable room, bar and restaurant with great food options, friendly staff
The receptionist wasn't present when we showed up to check in at 5pm, with no indication of where she was. This meant waiting for over 20 mins in the lobby. Eventually the bar staff checked us in. The facilities are basic (one of the showers didn't lock, and people were backed up waiting to use them at 6pm) but clean. Expect noise from the pub in the evening (2 sets of earplugs were provided with the room). The meals, particularly the baked cheesecake, at the bar were superb
No information given about breakfast & dinner. There was a rush at reception as ferry arrived so all of us there at once. But they know that, so put info in bedrooms.
Best location on the island
Big room, so close to all the Oban attractions.

Bit too expensive for the shared bathrooms. Room could have been nicer and cleaner. Heater didn't work. Weird people outside partying all night. In future would stay at the back packers instead
