Good location. Good hotel, with windows that open (always a plus). Great breakfast --- euro quality food.
Do not hesitate!
Fabulous hotel with impeccable service. Would recommend to anyone!
Excellent Value for quality, location, and staff
Great hotel, clean, luxurious, convenient location, and friendly staff.
Beautiful hotel with a lovely view. Our room was exceptional
Excellent Hotel with outstanding breakfast dinning.
nice property in the Auckland harbor
No nighttime room service, very unhelpful and the hotel is old and tired looking. The cost for a night over inflated for what you get. This is a 3 star hotel at best
Good area with many dining options within walking distance.
Incompetent staff no where to be seen and rude!
I've stayed in Sofitel before and it was wonderful which is why I've tried to come back many times but it's always booked out which I could imagine why because their customer service used to be amazing before COVID and they always used to go above and beyond before. That was before. Everything has now changed and after the experience I had I doubt I will be coming back. Upon check-in the customer service was rude and unhelpful. I wasn't even told which level anything was on. I wasn't helped with my bags to my room and both people on the desk were ride. No reception area. Plus in room don't work. Bath doesn't drain well, hotel toiletries were not fully stocked, only plugs that worked were by the sofa and one in the bathroom. I could go on and on about how welcome I felt about going here. Not only was it difficult to find staff that were working but everyone was unhelpful and couldn't care less. This is not what I would expect at a 5 star hotel around $400 a night. Completely awful and incompetent staff. The reception area is weird as it's 3 desks that you sit down on the chairs like a travel agency. The tap if you turn the faucet it was coming apart. Awful!!!!!
Fabulous
Lovely accommodation. Will stay there again.
My only criticism is that there was some confusion about whether my booking package included breakfast or not. I got different information fron three clerks. Otherwise, all good.
Very good
.
Excellent
We enjoyed the property immensely, with its proximity to the city.
The Sofitel is a beautiful property and have amazing staff when they can be found. Few times I tried to reach guest services or reception with no answer. The let downs is the linen on the bed had stains and wasn’t overly clean. The food both in room service and the restaurant was underwhelming and limited. To be honest it was overpriced for what was offered as $52 for a tiny average omelette and a cup of coffee was a bit steep.
Beautiful entrance Beautiful for the price highly recommended for a get away for couple nights, had a great time
BE WARNED Is this the Marsden or the Sofitel???
Strangely there were very few other guests around, and after talking to a fellow guest, who happened to be using the spa, he advised me that the Marsden hotel is leased out and yet is under the same roof as the Sofitel. Interesting as when I arrived , the female greeter asked Marsden or Sofitel are you staying at. Didn’t think anything about it, until I became aware that the Marsden is a fraction of the cost yet the rooms are IDENTICAL. I believe the use of the pool and gym for Marsden guests would cost extra, which explains the lack of use of the indoor pool I guess. Speaking of which, it does have some infrastructure issues, like the panel of the starry lighting fixture totally exposed showing not stars on the ceiling but rather unattractive wiring and fluorescent lighting above the pool. Safety issue?? Despite this, hats off go to the concierge named Karim. His service is wasted at the hotel and should be at a more grander hotel. Despite enough Sofitel stays in the past around the world, stay at the Marsden for the same quality at a fraction of the cost
Amazing Hotel!
Unexpectedly amazing! The staff was so friendly and loved their breakfast! Simply Devine!!
Greta staff and lovely property
Nice spacious room, good quantity of furnitures, nice decoration. Good front desk service.
This hotel is not cheap, and I could smell cigarette smoke in my room. Was not ideal based on this alone. Also I was working, so needed early breakfast. I know buffet breakfast in a hotel is not cheap, but I would like options available at 6am. There was only one breakfast option which was full buffet breakfast. So I went out of the hotel for this.
Ruined my whole experience
They double charged my card, promised to fix it immediately and haven’t done anything. And now I have haggle with them on an international call just for their mistake. Small motels and hotels don’t do this - can’t imagine how bad the processes at Sofitel must be. Ruined my whole experience
Not very welcoming for families. When we got off the car the staff even asked if we were in the right hotel. I am pregnant with two kids on a staycation. Many staff won’t say hi unless you’re wearing a suit. The ambience is cold and boring but the facilities are top notch and new. Bathtub in room is great, amenities smells amazing and they’re Balmain. Breakfast is lovely too, but being a French hotel expected their croissants to be better. Service was definitely not what I’ve experienced in five star hotels, but the facilities (indoor pool and indoor jacuzzi!) were great. May be best for couples or business travellers
Spacious comfortable room.
Checkin was quite slow and the receptionist forgot to give us our key when the room was ready after two reminders. Swimming pool is also quite cold and many other guests said the same. Other than that this is a good hotel serving good food with good staff in the restaurant. Breakfast was also good.
We experienced wonderful hospitality in a beautiful hotel on the water.
The room was nice and big, with good amenities. However my window faced a bus depot, so didn’t really have much of a view. The staff at the hotel were hit or miss depending who you spoke to.
Safe, quiet, view of Marina from outside. Unfortunately not from our room. We had a very bad views. We were told we upgraded to Atrium. Sounds fancy but when we got to our room and opened the curtains to check the view, what we could see were the roof down below and other units and the guests from inside. Hence, we had to always close the curtains so other guests from other units couldn't see us. The breakfast that is cooked to our preference is okay. The free-refill coffee had to be ordered all the time, and it takes a while before you get one. The buffet breakfast is mediocre except the hot food. I love the mushroom. I think it's Bella or Crimini. The breads esp. the sliced loaves are either old and rock hard. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be like that. Because I'm used to eating soft and fluffy breads. Same with nuts, they are just too hard for me. I'm not sure or maybe it's just me. All I know they took a lot of hard work to bite and chew to swallow. I only tried once and didn't repeat. What I like most of our room is the spacious room and the shower & strong water which is very important to us. Oh the cleaning time is not time pressured. Cleaners do not knock to signal cleaning time. They just wait until unit guests go out before they go inside to clean every room, which is very rare in all my hotel experience. Overall, our experience is fine. We still enjoyed our time while in Auckland.
A so-so property--good location but feels like a mid level change and not like a top flight major city hotel. Breakfast buffet completely ordinary. Again feels like a tour hotel.
Perfect location near downtown Auckland. Very walkable to the harbor and shopping, highly recommend for all travelers
Very nice hotel in a great location. Room was spacious & breakfast was excellent.
Just ok, nothing great. We found the staff were no better than average. Not worth the money.
We have stayed with you many times for business and pleasure and always find this hotel convenient and a quiet place to stay. We always enjoy the food and spa when we visit. Some standards of cleanliness in the general areas have dropped and if flowers are on show they need to be fresh. Otherwise, we had a very enjoyable stay, thank you.
Great location right on the waters edge. Very nice and clean, great service and fantastic breakfast
UK travellers
This is a really comfortable hotel with attentive service. Location is fabulous, right by the waterfront. The hotel pool was lovely. Excellent breakfast Would stay here again.
First, I should like to say I almost NEVER leave reviews. HOWEVER...this hotel deserves a scathing assessment. I have stayed at many Sofitels throughout the world and have always found them to be well-managed and worth the extra expense. That does NOT apply to this hotel. Good luck finding reception. I literally asked the people in reception where it was! They did not bother to o much as greet us let alone help. Apparently no rewards for Expedia Gold First room: Perfectly clean but with completely broken AC and about 85 degrees inside. Asked for a new room and were told maintenance would fix it. Checked 2 hours later and they stated they hadn't heard from maintenance, nor checked on room but it was probably fixed. It was not. Finally asked for a new room. Directed to new room that smelled horrible--like stale cologne, febreeze and carpet cleaner, albeit with working HVAC. Asked for another room still. FInally after schlepping 4 bags and sundry other items we found a room with functional AC that smells like mildew (actually). Decided after 16 hour flight this would have to do. At no point was any remedy offered for any of this. Bottom line: Worst hotel experience I can recall at any higher end stay...and I've stayed in a lot of them. I could NOT have been more disappointed.
Personalized reception
Wedding night bliss
We spent our wedding night in your gorgeous hotel, the complementary champagne and sweets were much appreciated!! Thank you!!! The bedding was a dreamy and soft, really perfect! We also LOVED the bathtub.
Lovely stay
The hotel was lovely, and well positioned. However disappointing that my suite didn’t have marina views as expected from the website pictures.
Auckland Dinner
The hotel has a great location The staff is really lovely They just need to improve on their delivery Service could be faster And rather questionable at times Overall great
inadequate dining options
Unhelpful and rude staff especially the housekeeping staff. Room wasn’t cleaned most days till 4pm and then it was an effort when we asked for clean towels. For a 5 star hotel it was more like 1.5 stars for customer service. On the plus side, it’s in a nice location with a short walk into the main centre of town.
very nice hotel
The property is very nice and on an excellent and picturesque location. The people at the hotel are kind, warm and very helpful. The breakfast is top-notch. It’s too bad there is no one to greet you upon arrival. There is no doorman or even a clearly visible reception desk when you first enter the property. The club lounge looks great. It’s a bit pretentious for my taste, but others, especially those who are accustomed to European traditions will most likely love it.
Overall the Sofitel is a beautiful hotel, unfortunately the view was of a bus station, and we had to debate with a staff to get a seat in the dining room, other than the one where the buffet was even though there were clearly other tables available! And you must ask fur an extra hot coffee otherwise it comes out cold!
Too cold for comfort!
The room was so cold and no operable heat. They claimed they had to order a new coil for the heater and that it wouldn’t arrive until after I left. They had to bring me another think blanket and a portable heater that kept me up due to the noise it generated. They said they would have comped me 50% of the room but could not because I booked through here. So I was not compensated. Horrible experience for a luxury line for the price I paid.
Meh, to put it nicely.
The hotel itself was nice and clean. They try to be chic and accommodating, but the staff wasn't very helpful and tried to give us the run around when we expressed our disappointment in the room we were given. Just a heads up that your city view is of a bus parking lot. You need to upgrade if you want a harbor or atrium view. They told us they tried to get ahold of us to change our room to an atrium view, but never left a note in our room or a message on our room phone. Then when they did see us said it was no longer available. For a higher end hotel I found this unacceptable. They gave us a late check out and a couple drinks at the bar to ease our frustrations. Disappointing stay given the customer service.
Booked & fully pre-paid a "luxury room" but was given the most basic room type (2 levels down). And that particularly room was facing a busy construction site, reeked of mold and we both woke up the next morning with bed bug bites on our legs. Disgusting. Equally disappointing: how the property dealt with the situation. At check-in I was simply told that I had booked a "superior room". After double checking my booking, I complained resulting in the check-in person pretending to not understand me. After escalating to the hotel manager the first sentence out of his mouth was "Oh, I knew about the fact that we don't have your originally booked room available - there is an issue with that room". Pointing out that I wasn't told about the situation at check-in, the person that checked us in outright lied, insisting that she had informed us (she didn't) and that she even gave us club access for free drinks (the latter is true, but was given without any explanation - nor does it seem like an appropriate compensation). Second sentence from the hotel manager: "Since you booked and pre-paid via Expedia, there is nothing we can do - normally we would refund you". That lead to a lot of back and forth starting again with an offer for free drinks ending with us 10k receiving loyalty points. All that was before we even saw the room with all its issues (facing construction site, reeking of mold & bed bugs on top). The only good experience was that Expedia ended up reimbursing us fully.
Excellent service -
Absolutely amazing getaway for long weekend for local family. We booked with10 years old child and they provided rollaway bed which I forgot to request! - very comfortable too. Pool and gym was clean and all showers in the pool also connected to Spa shower so all top quality experience. their pebble water pond create a relax and remote feeling from the busy Auckland city. Continental Breakfast buffet was simple but all fresh and tasty- overnight oats were so good. We ordered cafe style breakfast menu as well. All very tasty. It is free breakfast for kids.
On arrival we asked for a bucket of ice which didn’t arrive after asking for it twice two hours later still no ice… went to the hotel restaurant to only get extremely bad service to the point we didn’t get any and then the food we got was extremely underwhelming such as scales on the fish watery dressing for Caesar salad over cooked steak I would understand if they where busy but at 6pm they where not. The room was ok the view for the room we had was of nothing but building probably won’t return
Check in was shocking …. Waited an hour and a half for our room to be ready
Nice hotel with nice rooms. Be aware that a lot of the rooms over look a busy street with a bus depot and it can be quite noisy. The hotel is well presented however, more attention is needed to properly clean the common areas, particularly the floors (lots of tiled areas were covered in think dust). The staff were excellent!
beautiful view, spacious room, double sinks in the bathroom with separate shower and tub, good coffee/tea set-up in room
Great
81st birthday gathering
Great amenities and friendly service. Nice personalised touches in mum's room for her birthday. Courteous reception and concierge staff. Bar staff were attentive, enjoyed the Bon nuit mon armour cocktails.
Great staff super friendly and helpful
I ran into a little trouble with my room door not opening but the staff was extremely nice and gave me another room right away and comped one of my nights. They also gave me breakfast in the morning. Also, the concierge was super helpful. Both Baj and Careem spent hours helping me plan last minute adventures and went out of their way to make my travel planning easier. I am very grateful for them. I really appreciated this because I was traveling alone and they really made me feel comfortable.
Expedia said the cost was $500 but I was charged over $800! wouldn't ever do this again
Great place to stay!
Received a room upgrade upon check in. Quite unexpected and very nice room. Staff is fantastic. Highly recommend this hotel.
Great place to stay
Great place to stay. Staff is excellent and property is top tier. Accessible to many activities and amenities in the CBD in Auckland.
Beautiful property with lovely large reception /lounge area
Great stay in Auckland CBD
Great team from valet to reception to room service to house keeping and concierge.
Beautiful hotel, great rooms, staff was exceptional
Service was amazing! Staff were absolutely friendly and welcoming. Would definitely return for another stay.
We had a lovely stay & look forward to returning soon no doubt.
Disappointed at the noise during the night- cars revving up outside, loud music blaring from car stereos. When we checked in we were told we had a very quiet room but it certainly wasn’t. Additionally, our bathroom rubbish bin had the previous guest’s rubbish in it when we arrived. Breakfast was very frenetic and disorganised. Long queues, poor service.
The hotel set up was clean, tidy and inviting. Our room was peaceful and we had a tranquil deck over looking the atrium, we enjoyed the water sounds! The bath was luxurious and even more lovely because we were able to request salts and bubble bath. The bed was super comfy and dinner at the restaurant was delicious- best meal in NZ during the 4 years we have been here. Thanks.
Beautiful hotel and fabulous staff every day and all day. Made us feel like kings and queens
Very pleasant hotel, and excellent helpful staff. Location was ideal for pur purposes.
Great Choice
Huge rooms and doors opening to a balcony. Very comfortable bed and lovely bedlinen.
Parking was a bit pricey but all in all amazing stay, super helpful staff.
A nice place to stay. Our only grip was that we constantly had noise from other rooms (TV, Music) intruding in our room. Also street facing, at 1am Cars with loud music blaring woke us up.
I absolutely loved my stay, it is a beautiful hotel with fantastic service. My spa treatment was magical and the design of the hotel is incredible.
Like the experience that's why we keep returning.
hotel is showing signs of wear for the price paid we would of expected better condition
Great hotel, staff extremely attentive and marina views best in Auckland
The staff are exceptionally attentive and genuinely want you to be their guest. This hotel has a beautiful fit out and a first class view of the marina.
very helpful with lost property. very attentive in a friendly manner
Fantastic service and rooms! Can't recommend enough. Thanks
Would be good to provide a bubble bath option for the bathroom, a nice touch
Great location close to Wynyard Quarter and the city
Excellent service by staff. Restaurant was superb
Quiet luxury.
Celebrating an anniversary and needing a break, the Sofitel delivered on all counts. We thoroughly enjoyed the excellent service and amenities during our short stay. Will aim for a room with Water views the next time (hopefully).
Angel's customer service was fantastic
Amazing. Will definitely stay again.
Room was luxurious very close to the viaduct. We will definitely be returning.
Great staff and great room. Price was very reasonable in peak party time of America’s Cup
Great location downtown and on the Harbour. Short walk to most interesting city areas. Very good cafe with interesting crepes.
The best 5 Star Hotel in Auckland
Loved the place - will definitely be back.
Excellent service, check in very helpful receptionist ... no problems in organising a hotel similar to one we were interested which was booked out ... so recommended another similar. Recommend booking for breakfast? As not buffet and waited 30min. Before table available. Service in breakfast restaurant could be better however amazing breakfast and choice selection.... all in all would be happy to make a special occasion stay again ...
Loved it
Great hotel in every way. Will definitely stay again
We stayed in a Junior Suite for one night. Fabulous stay in all ways. Great amenities; professional, friendly staff; lovely room and beautiful area of the city, close to everything. Expensive, but worth every cent if you can afford it. Highly recommended.
Outstanding Hotel, service was superb rooms very clean overall amazing experience
The hotel is lovely. Excellent position on the harbour front
