I booked Sherwood for our my family holiday based on their value (compared to other hotels in Queenstown) and their sustainability credentials. Upon arrival the reception staff were friendly and efficient. We found our room to be quite simple but with everything we required. After a few days however we did notice the room probably required a little bit of love and attention as it was showing its age. The parking was a little weird as it was first come first served which made it challenging if you came home after 5pm however there was some additional parking located a short walk away. The real winner at this resort was the restaurant. We ate there 2-4 times during our stay and loved the food. It was a little pricey though so not sure you could eat there everyday which means you need to travel into town for other options. In the end we felt this hotel was reasonable value and was clean and safe. However we didn’t have a view and felt the rooms lacked any real character. We also had to ask for simple things like irons and then found them to be faulty. We would consider staying here again however next time we might search for an alternative with a balcony and a little more character.
Great place for families with clean spacious rooms with views, great facilities, friendly staff and within a short drive from town centre
Nice enough place to stay. A bit noisy with thin walls. Healthy food. No TV or USB chargers.
Nice and Friendly staff
Valentino, the receptionist, provides excellent customer service and is amiable. With patience, he is assisting us in finding twin beds rather than king beds.
The vibe and atmosphere was remarkable.
A bit too minimalistic for my taste, but it was a safe and clean environment that I was thankful for. The restaurant was amazing!
Very thin walls, i could hear my neighbor moving his chair
This is a great property to stay at. It is the only property in my experience that actually implements excellent environmental practices- well done Sherwood.
This property was lovely! We loved our room and our stay here. Amazing food and drinks at the restaurant too!
Best restaurant in town.
Great place to stay outside of QT
We adored the Sherwood! It was so beautiful and the room was stunning. The restaurant is also a must visit,
nice location right by the lake and with chess games, tennis and all...
Great place to stay, fabulous hot shower, warm room and extremely comfortable beds. Great decor and excellent restaurant even if it was a little pricey, but superb service and food so worth paying in a tourist hot spot.
This was our second stay at Sherwood and it was even better than the first. Our room was beautiful. The gardens and common areas are beautiful. Our dinner was amazing! This will be the only place we stay in Queenstown from now on
The restaurant is amazing
The restaurant is excellent. The hotel itself puts a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability. Rooms are varied and a little quaint. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Amenities include sauna and yoga. Massages can be booked. Town is a long walk away — but a bus comes by every 15 minutes.
The place has been designed as a retrofit, with a sustainability focus, but the quality of the rooms is not very good. The plumbing seemed to have some problems with odour. The service at check in and in the restaurant was dreadful. Very slow and snobbish attitude from most of the staff.
The staff wasn’t especially helpful when we checked in - they answered our questions in a perfunctory manner. It was disconcerting to walk into our room and find a set of dirty towels on one of the counters.
Location was good , room, was clean , recycling around the place not emptied quickly & smelt . Parking for guests a free for all , 2 nights we had to park out on the street
Great location, quiet and family friendly.
The Sherwood Hotel in Queenstown is gorgeous, but it might not have been the best fit for us. We were expecting more of a resort vibe with extra amenities and a bit more attention to detail. The hotel focuses on conservation and minimalism, which is great, but it meant we had to request extra towels and supplies. The breakfast was outstanding, with high-quality food and presentation. It's a bit out of the way from the main city, so we had to rely on Uber rides. The hotel was quiet and had great lake views, but the walls were a bit thin, and the bathrooms were outdated. Overall, it’s a unique, eco-friendly place that reminded me of a more "crunchy granola" version of the Ace Hotel.
Bad experience
Easy location, comfortable excellent servixe
Nice views Awesome coffee Late easy checkin
This place is okay but not great. Car transportation is definitely necessary if you want easy access to Queenstown.
I liked the location, but it was difficult if you had a room on the top floor trying to carry luggage up the stairs as there are no lifts…thin walls
Bus just outside. For $2 it takes you into QTown. Very convenient
Was amazing staying in the waterfall rooms, reminds me of an American ranch vibe
Amazing stay at Sherwood. Room was clean and very comfortable with lake view. We had two meals, dinner and breakfast. Couldn't speak highly enough of both experiences. Staff were all very friendly and helpful.
A little isolated but very nice place
Great location with some minor issues.
We stayed at the 2 bedroom Paradise unit with a lake view which was fantastic. The rooms were rustic chic and the overall vibe was excellent. Things that bothered me a little bit-Parking was hit or miss and sometimes you had to park far away. Some of the basic toiletries had to be requested for (you have to go and get them). I get the eco friendly part but for pete's sake put a latch in the toilet door when you rent out 2 or 3 bedroom units. I spent three nights there.
The food in the restaurant was outstanding. The hotel is within walking distance of the centre of Queenstown or you can get a bus outside that takes you into town for £2.
The location was lovely, but the amenities were not at the expected level relative to price. Parking was limited, and on 2 out of 3 nights not available after returning from dinner in town. The 2 bedroom unit we had included one bathroom which was downstairs from bedrooms, and the kitchen did not include a microwave. Beds were comfy and we had a nice view. This place would be better suited if travelling as a couple than with a family.
Very comfy beds. No allocated parking. Massage onsite which was great. Enough room for a family and basic cooking facilities- no microwave, however a cooktop.
Comfy and cozy
Cozy hotel with a focus on eco friendly procedures.
Rustic chic
Lovely modern rustic stay with a clear focus on sustainability. We enjoyed booking the sauna on site. The shower was a bit fiddly to get the right temperature.
Nice rustic place. Easy bus to town or arrowtown. Really quick bus ride to airport. Rooms were cosy and had kitchen area for basic cooking and cold storage. Free parking is nice. I think it is really cool what they did with their sustainability choices.
Right away, we noticed that the parking situation was insane, with only one parking space it seemed for every 5 rooms. It was difficult to get our bags to the unlit stairwells to get them up to our room. We walked into the room and one of the only really nice things I can say about the room is that it had music playing on a stereo. The room looked like it hadn't been updated since 1970, as it had cork on the walls and light fixtures that were older than me. The staff was helpful, though.
Two persons to stay 4 nights, but for 3 nights, only provide 3 bath towel. Whole room only had 2 uncomfortable chairs. Shower and hand
great place to stay and dine ! awesome staff and amazing restaurant !
Great location
In great location if you have a car. Parking some times can be tricky as there is the restaurant customers that park there also. Service was ok. Bathrooms a bit outdated.
Nice hotel with good and responsive staff.
Liked the historic buildings and the idea of a more sustainable/mindful approach but felt it was not authentic. More of an excuse for poor quality, run down, one step up from camping. Old buildings also mean you hear every step and sneeze from Neighbors beside and above. Didn’t sleep for 5 nights
Peefection
Just perfect
Old fittings in the washrooms But room is quiet and nice
Great place to stay.
Great food at the restaurant but the rooms are very basic. Not even a hook to hang your towel or the bathmat. No privacy if you open the bathroom window, extractor fan in bathroom didn't work. You have to have the blinds closed all the time to have any privacy so the room is very dark.
Room small no tv a little noisy but otherwise good
Overnight stay - Staff friendly and very helpful. Convenient location.
Missed some of the basic things in this price. Microwave was mising in room. Room didnt have locks in bathrom door. Big privacy issue for a family. Not everyone is a couple. No allotted parking for guests. Guests with rooms had to park outside while temporary guests were parking inside. Overall terrible management.
Horrible service and the room is dark and terrible and it needs updating and should not be put on market for customers! Hopeless! The room has outdated taps and it was very terrible. The staff was rude and they didn’t have basic amenities like TV in the room.
We had a lovely one night stay at Sherwood but it could have been slightly better. We did message ahead of time as it was our anniversary, and we were told that a note would be made of this on our booking and then nothing was done on arrival. The bed was very comfy and the rooms cosy. The service was good too. There was a function which was very loud, so we requested a fan to be brought to the room which was promptly given to us. Parking was a bit of a challenge, we had to do a couple of loops to try and find a car park as it was so busy. A good stay and I would recommend, but just a couple of areas that could be improved :)
Great value stay everything had been thought of.
This eco friendly property is overpriced. Mountain View rooms don't really have the view. The Spanish speaking person at friend desk was rude. Food options were decent but there was a lot of wait time. Bed was comfortable and room was spacious.
This is my go to place every time i come to Queenstown. It is cozy, warma nd welcoming. The people are friendly and accomodating. Also adore their commitment to sustainability and community. Highly recommend!
Great place to stay.
Second time back and can’t wait for the third time!
Comfortable hotel in attractive setting, conveniently situated between airport and town with easy access to bus route and views over the lake. Restaurant has excellent service and a very interesting menu. To be recommended.
Decent value for money comfortable but lacking some more comfortable features like a couch or television.
Great restaurant, not so great rooms. Lot of “eco-friendly” measures that just lower the quality of stay (e.g., rooms haven’t been renovated “intentionally”). Away from town so probably need to take the bus, uber, or drive.
Will recommend for a couple or friends staying together but definitely not for a family with child
Love love loved sherwood! Being big greenies, we were stoked to go to a hotel that was actively making positive changes for the environment and we loved the restaurant with its beautiful fresh garden produce, you could really taste the difference! Thank you!
About a 7-minute drive from the Queenstown city center is this wonderful hotel. We stayed in a room with queen bunk beds. The walls were made of concrete and tiled cork, which meant that sound was absorbed. The bathroom was functional, and the room included tea and coffee facilities, a kettle, a heater, and a bar fridge. Surprisingly, there was no television. Guest Wi-Fi was a bit slow during peak times, which means that if you are watching streaming services, you can expect buffering or delays. Thick insulated curtains kept the room warm. There was an onsite restaurant, and we had no issues finding parking spots. There were also free water refills at reception. Sherwood Queenstown is the ideal place with wonderful mountain views.
Beautiful location. Interesting room with concrete floor, cork walls and curtains made from blankets. Beds exceptional, very comfortable with plenty of blankets so very warm. No Television in the room nor any milk in the fridge. Shower water took awhile to work out how to get hot water but then a lovely shower. Easy to find with gardens showing the name- we arrived at night. Restaurant had nice food but fairly expensive. Would recommend the hotel.
We loved our waterfall view room. Everything was beautifully laid out and presented. We will definitely stay again
Great place
Clean and quiet and safe environment which was important since I was traveling and dining alone.
have stayed here a lot .. love it
I like the cool vibe. The restaurant is the main selling point for sure. Excellent menu and food to match! Service is exceptional. This place reminds me of Dr. Wilkinson’s Hotel in Calistoga CA. A renovated (basic) motel made modern.
not too big but has something different from the other.
Enjoyed our 3 night stay. Only challenge during our stay was water pressure being very low and unable to get more than luke warm showers. Reception explained though it was not linked to the property and rather work being done nearby.
Liked that the Sherwood used sustainable products where possible and great recycling facilities. Other accommodations could learn from them.
Fabulously welcoming and responsive staff. Restaurant food innovative , fresh and inspired. Very reasonably priced. I love this place and will be back.
The room was tidy and quiet, making the perfect get away from the hustle and bustle of the day and town
Loved it all
I went to have a breakfast and asked for an omelette instead of scramble eggs!!!because scramble eggs have butter and omelettes just need to mix the egg and done!!! But the staff didn't want to listen to me and arrogantly said we can't make your omelette we don't have a pan for that. Even the manager, using an arrogant tone, said we don't have an omelette!!! I was trying to explain that it was simpler than scramble eggs but they preferred to maintain their arrogance than listen to me. They didn't want to make it. I felt frustrated because it was an easy option, "eggs" only! I travel all over the world and I have never encountered this difficulty in hotels.i will not back there anymore
The best place in QT to eat and rest your head
The staff were lovely and the restaurant is great, but the room was SO NOISY. Our room was on the bottom floor next to the stairs and it was just footsteps and thumping the entire time. The room is nothing special but I do like the ethos of the place. I recommend the yoga class but we wouldn't stay again.
In property restaurant there was private function due to this property guest wasn’t allowed to dine on 9/08/24 I also was denied entry in restaurant then I had to order online to get dinner not worth it to stay
The property location is nice. Close to queenstown and tucked up on a hill. Very quaint and a restaurant on site if needed. However upon arrival we were aggressively asked to upgrade and tour more expensive rooms. Staff even came after we checked in to our room to ask again for us to move and spend extra ($100 a night). So our room didn’t have a view and we wonder if this is a tactic to make more money. There were things that didn’t work in the room and when mentioned were not addressed. What was really disappointing is we forgot 2 items in the room and realized after being on the road for an hour. I emailed them to let them know exactly what was forgotten and where and their response was that nothing was left. I followed up and never heard back. One item was my electrical adapter and it was still in the box but was apparently nowhere to be found. In any event, nice enough place but wouldn’t go back.
Overall its very good value for money and was a great experience. Some areas to improve, Parking can fill up in the evening if you arrive too late. The heating could be better, but it depends which room you get. The bed was a bit hard and a lower quality then average. Lastly if you use a sauna regularly its a bit cooler then avg. For us it maxed at 60 degrees celcius.
Great location, atmosphere, nice room setup (2 rooms and kitchen in between), very nice personnel
Great place, bad parking though.
Restaurant is outstanding
stay another night
Staff and vibe are the best in town. The food and drinks are fantastic
Great service, atmosphere and safety. Could not recommend this place enough
It was a lovely property, close to public transport and the teas and coffees provided were divine. I also loved the environmental focus of the property. I would definitely stay there again and recommend highly to family and friends.
Very ecological with beautiful views of the lake and mountain tops. Dinner at the restaurant was exceptional as well!
Beautifully styled rooms & great views. A TV/monitor would have been good in the room.
The rooms were constructed and decorated using recycled materials. Impressive and stylish! Loved the small kitchenette with wine glasses. The restaurant was excellent! Highly recommend this place.
The dining experience was really good. Interesting menu options, well presented and delicious. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Grounds were well maintained
The staff and dining were excellent however the room and room facilities were not great. The shower had poor controls - either lukewarm or scalding; lighting was very dim and given the industrial style decor, it made the room very dark and unwelcoming. It was necessary to keep the lights on whenever in the room and given there were no blinds or net curtains on the floor length windows there was a lack of privacy as all those walking past to get to their own rooms could see right into the room. There was also no television in the room.
First time I’ve ever slept in queen size bunkbeds. Beds were very comfortable and I enjoyed the stay while there.
Don't stay if you're a TV addict
Very loud thumping music at night. Basic for the price.
The experience was just OK at the hotel. The rooms were ‘renovated’ in a very minimalist style that doesn’t always make sense (no countertop in bathroom to put anything, no dining table, not enough power outlets.. little things, but annoying). The parking was constantly full, sauna all booked the same day… no gym… great Chinese massage, the restaurant delicious but almost impossible to get a table mid week without reservation…
Not for me - No TV, little parking.
There is no TV, so no news or weather; you would think that a TV is a given, but I guess they don't say there IS one. The parking is very inadequate. People were circling around the buildings on the narrow road trying to find a space close to their building. We parked 3 buildings away, and many had to park in overflow by the street quite a ways away. The bed, chairs, and dresser table is very short (less than 38 cm or 15 inches), and cannot read the text on the radio unless you are on you hands and knees. Very hard for taller people.
Can't say enough good things about Sherwood. It's my third stay there and the concept, comfort and aesthetics, luxe touches for a mid range price and amazing facilities (especially the sauna) are second to none in Queenstown. You really feel pampered and cosy and everything smells wonderful, I wish I could buy their furniture and blankets. The staff are wonderful, I love the firepits and the massage onsite with Suellen was fantastic. Breakfast/coffee onsite were great.
Everything in room way too low for anyone with back issues. No TV. An audio device that required a page of instructions to operate it. A cheap plastic ill fitting toilet seat, that made a horrible noise with the slightest movement. One of the lights above the bed not working. I rang the property during reception hours twice, a day before arrival, regarding a possible upgrade, with nil response & no message. I then emailed them, again nil response. When this was mentioned on arrival, just a shrug of the shoulders. I felt the customer service was very poor. Very limited parking.

A little disappointed
A little unorganised at Reception when checking in, hard to find a place to park our vehicle and only 2 towels for 3 people.
