The property is rundown and service is appalling. No-one was equipped with answers to my queries and the staff is running around like chickens without a head. Very disappointed with the whole experience

We stayed for two 3 nights, but they forgot to make up the room two days. Some of the spotlights were broken inside the room; and even the door (keypad) went broken during our stay. Despite the not-so-nice condition, staff are friendly and helpful.

I can’t speak highly enough of the shangri la . I would give it 10 stars if I could . The rooms are lovely , very spacious, bed was a bit hard for me though! The staff are marvellous. The resort is just stunning . Food options are good . Just loved our holiday .

Amazing and great service

On 08/10/24 Tuesday night, the pub played loud music and bass until 12:00 in the middle night . I called the front desk twice but the reply is waiting for the pub close by 12:00pm.

The entire staff at Shangri-La Rasa were fantastic and very accommodating! It's because of their warm hospitality, we enjoyed Penang as much as we did. Special shout out to Duty Manager Dave who helped us with our request. Definitely recommend staying here!!

Summer break

Lovely hotel in great location The hotel is ready for a refresh of the decor and furnishings, looking a little bit tired and dated in places. Staff are welcoming and helpful. We ended up being here in August, hot and humid (not through choice, but necessity!) and a November to March break would be a better time to visit for the weather

The duty manager Dave was very kind and accommodating. He upgraded us after a misunderstanding. The staff were very polite and helpful. Abdoul from the Ferenghi Restaurant was extremely attentive and kind. We very much enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful, peaceful, fun and great breakfast

This is a beautiful hotel and grounds, breakfast is the best EVER, pool was great/warm. Despite having a lot of guests there, it didn't feel overly crowded. It's also walkable to the little market area, which was nice, and pretty close/fast to the Penang National Park, which was nice. Definitely quite a haul to Georgetown with traffic - in the 45 mins range minimum/1 hr to the airport which seems far in a small area. We loved it though and are glad we stayed here - just don't think (as I did) that you can pop back and forth to Georgetown easily.

Fantastic resort

Way beyond our expectations in terms of service. From the minute we arrived, the service was impeccable. Upgraded to Rasa wing which came with added benefits such as a less crowded breakfast room, afternoon tea and cocktail hour. Buffet breakfast was also one of the best I’ve ever seen, so much choice. The beach is the only thing that lets it down.

So the staff was fantastic and I chose to upgrade to a suite that made this day. Just incredible. The staff I interacted with Gana and then Diniy Were superb and understood how to interact with guests at a five star level

We have booked this property confident in the brand and looking forward to a relaxing and high end stay, but it turns out to be simply abysmal. To begin with, the marketing is completely deceiving and indeed so inaccurate, better described as false advertising. The images portrays a well maintained and new establishment, when in fact is the complete opposite. Tiles missing on pool, carpet stained in lobby entrance, walls in the room ruined/dirty, swimming towels ripped &/or stained, terrace chairs ruined (see pictures) etc. Whilst it is described as “Shangri La Rasa” there are in fact two hotels within the establishment: La Rasa Garden & Wing - be aware guests are treated completely different. If you happen to have booked at the Garden, you are treated like a second class guess. Good luck in having a good night sleep! For some inexplicable reason, there are a couple of (kind of) musicians, singing until past midnight to an empty audience every night. During our stay we complained for the lack of rest and we were told it was an event and they could not do much about it. Completely lied to us, didn’t even apologise or try to mitigate the situation. To make things worse, one night at 1:23 am the telephone rang shortly after having managed to fall asleep, to be asked by reception “have you ordered some tea?”. We brought a complaint forward to the manag,ent explaining all the above and absolutely no attempt were made to apologies for the horrendous stay. DO NOT BOOK HERE!!!!

Overall satisfy. The breakfast has lots of variety, only the lady who’s standing at the entrance was a bit rude with no smiles. Room is smaller than expected and the hotel needs a renovation.

Staff was not very friendly, food was tolerable. Coffee was horrendous, but they did have Kopi in the mornings. The NYE BBQ was not worth the money... the cooks tried to serve raw squid as cooked. it was ridiculous

A relaxing resort with good food, excellent facilities and attentive professional staff, especially in the Ferringhi Grill restaurant. We enjoyed the variety of foods available especially breakfast. The upkeep of the garden and pool areas is to be congratulated and the cleanliness of the accommodation is excellent.

We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful property. Staff in all areas were exceptional, including front desk, room attendant, dining staff, and pool/security/grounds. We particularly enjoyed the hand-poured coffee cart, the daily afternoon tea, and the nightly cocktail hour in the lounge. Our room and balcony were beautiful and comfortable and our room attendant kept us supplied in water and treats.

Super Stay but check your room description view!

Stayed here twice within a week. On both occasions check in was extremely slow. On the first stay 3-5/12 the reception staff all huddled together around the computer screen and it took awhile to check me in. Once in my ‘superior’ room I discovered my view was that of the parking lot and not at all as described on the hotels.com website. This was rectified but only after I had to return to reception and provide them with screenshots taken from my booking. This was wholly inconvenient and caused some stress on my arrival. Nevertheless it was sorted and I was happy with the ‘upgrade’ which was perfect for me on my own. The bellboy Haroun was particularly fabulous helping me settle into my ‘deluxe king room’ with patio and small garden which had easy access to the adult only Rasa pool, the Spice Cafe for brekky, the garden loungers beach side where I had a wonderfully relaxing foot reflexology massage looking out at the soothing waves in the shore. Pool staff also very courteous and helpful. All round after the checkin and room issue, I felt looked after and can say I felt safe as a woman on her own in this stay. The ‘ghurkha’ guards patrolling also contributed to the comfort and security of my stay. On the second stay 10-13/12 I had to ask the check in girl if she spoke English as didn’t seem to understand my booking. On both occasions the check in was far from VIP as advocated by hotels.com. However they had reserved my previous ‘upgraded’ room allocation and was happy.

Property kind of aged. Bathroom shower area needs upkeep. Breakfast selections was good , buffet dinner offers many varieties. Lounge offers live bands in the evening and dance area.

The buffer breakfast is not well prepared after 7am, the food was under expectations, the staff not friendly at breakfast buffer area.

The staff was wonderful, very helpful. The spa Chi had great options and the therapists were great, especially Jenice

Excellent food and facilities. We stayed at Rasa Wing Junior Suites which includes a massive bathtub in the balcony. The pools and gardens are great for the family to enjoy. The staff are very friendly and the food quality is great too. I would highly recommend this resort if you want to get a getaway for your family (with little ones).

Beautiful resort! We loved our holiday here and felt it was definitely a worthwhile trip. Staff were delightful and the buffet breakfast was really good. The deluxe garden view room we had was lovely and the grounds of the resort are such a nice place to sit and relax although I would recommend forking out extra for the rasa wing suite if your not a 'kid' person ...as you'll get access to the child-free pool... good if you can afford it, as the main pool area tends to get pretty loud with children (yuck). My only other mild critique would be that the pool bar has no idea how to make cocktails.. they were very average and for a whopping $15AUD equivalent - a price you'd expect at any hotel bar but minus the quality.

The beach was not very good, small and not very clean. During night we could hear noise from the hallway when we were trying to sleep. They should improve the sound isolation. The room is somewhat wormed down, especially the bathroom and toilet. TV is old as well. The curtains are amazing keeping the room completely dark in the morning. Cocktails are quite bland, my favorite is pina colada and it just tasted like pineapple juice with added coconut milk, not creamy at all. We tried all restaurants and spice market gave us the best experience, Nasi Goreng was great. We will probably not come back to Penang as a whole, we are looking for a more tropical experience.

We stayed in the Rasa Wing and had the best resort experience we have ever had. The staff were exceptional from housekeeping to front of house. We did have a wee wait in order to get our room after we checked in but it was quickly forgotten. I rated cleanliness slightly lower - it was not that it was unclean but most everything was perfect here with the exception of greasy fingerprints on the make-up mirror in the bathroom and one other small cleaning oversight which I forget (so not a biggie!) These were tiny things and we did not raise them there. I used the spa and had two amazing massages and we dined more than once at the Spice Market which was our preferred lunch restaurant. The service at the pool was amazing - and it was a luxury to be in an adults only area. We are already planning a return visit.

The best luxury experience we had . Everything was perfect.

Been a repeat stayer at this hotel for many years. It has aged well considering the last renovation. Rasa wing high tea/canapé are always a charm. Monitor lizards swimming freely in the garden wing pool (that is the only pool permitted for kids) need to be urgently removed.

The grounds were well kept and staff was friendly. Rooms were nice and clean. Breakfast selection was really good. However, there was no equipment to warm up the croissants and muffins. What wasn't great was the delayed check-in at 3.50 pm. Another thing was they were confused as to whether we had booked for a night or two nights even after we showed them the confirmation from expedia.

Great stay, lovely hotel

Lovely hotel, the executive club is well worth the extra cost, food and drinks were excellent. The hotel grounds are huge with loads of sunbeds and the staff look after you well, they are very attentive and nothing is too much trouble.

It was a really lovely experience. The staff were so attentive we felt very spoilt. The daily high tea and cocktail hour were highlights of staying in the Rasa wing. Would definitely recommend.

Best Value Hotel in Batu Ferringhi

The hotel is a great place for R&R. It is suitable for all groups, families, couples, single travellers.

Booked a superior king with lounge access, what we got was a connecting room (spill over) which was very outdated. The garden wing rooms look far better - we had a few issues when checking in (not to do with the hotel ) but ordinarily I would of switched immediately but had other things on my mind - check the fire escape plan on the back of your hotel room door to see what the room sizes are like on the floor - this room 2254 was the smaller by half - they actually said it’s one of the best rooms because it has a sea view…unfortunately cannot stay in a view in comfort

Outstanding property

Over all I completely enjoyed my stay. Tony at the pitch and put was the perfect host for the area. The bar/restaurant by the beach had a really varied, and tasty menu, with friendly staff, although they kept running out of bottled beer. The buffet breakfast was amazing, with great staff. I especially enjoyed having a balcony to relax on, Underneath the canopy of the ancient tree. I would highly recommend staying here to anybody.

Michelle the front desk manager at the Rasa Wing is first class. She’s truly goes out of her way to make sure guests needs are met. Only downside is the pool which needs more regular cleaning! Too many dead leaves etc

Loved the location and tropical garden setting

I had a really pleasant stay with my family even though it was just for one night! The overall environment and rooms are very well maintained and clean. The hotel is very thoughtful and attentive to all the guests' needs. They even prepared beach slippers for guests who may not have brought theirs. They are situated in a forest area so there is a rich biodiversity which my family enjoyed exploring the place! What surprised me is the good variety and quality of food for the breakfast buffet and the cake specially prepared for one of the rooms I booked. Really thank you for the great hospitality from all the staff members. Will definitely patronize again when I'm back in Penang!
