Definitely will visit again. Was a great experience staff are more then willing to help with any questions
Sands was an absolute pleasure, beautiful beaches, great rooms, friendly staff. Would definitely recommend *****
Enjoyed my stay however the food was incredibly bland. Would love it was more flavourful. Would have been a 5* experience had it not been for the food as the staff are amazing, hotel facilities were amazing, everything was great but the food sadly
This is by far, the best hotel that I have ever stayed in. I wished to propose to my partner in Mauritius and the hotel went above and beyond to make it happen. Yash organised the whole thing for us and made it look like a fairytale without any stress whatsoever. They designed a whole menu to accommodate for my partner’s allergy, they covered the beach in rose petals and organised a singer. From the moment we checked in, to the moment we left, we were so well looked after by all of the staff. We were greeted by staff upon our arrival and shown straight to our room. The check-in process was done in our room while we had the signature on-arrival cocktails. There are a variety of games and activities organised throughout the day as well as entertainment each night. The food options were amazing and there are also free water sport activities. If you are thinking of staying in a hotel in all of Mauritius, please make it this one. The best service, activities, and amenities that I have ever experienced in a hotel.
We stayed at this wonderful resort for a night last week- definitely not long enough. Everything was perfect. Exceptionally good and friendly service from everyone. The resort is at one end of the beach with its own bay. It felt very exclusive. Would love to go back one day.
The staff were extremely accommodating with all requests. The rooms were immaculate, spacious and had plenty of storage space. There were really thoughtful and practical touches in the room. The sea view was amazing. There were extensive water sports available included included in the accommodation fee. The jacuzzi is outdoors but was incredible. There was not as extensive a range of food as at other resorts of this calibre but this did not detract from the fabulous stay in any way.
A cozy resort with a lovely small beach area directly in front of the hotel, with the longer beach area easily accessible too. Hotel staff were all genuine, very friendly and helpful. Rooms all very big with balconies, sofa and seat in room and huge bathroom with walk in wardrobe area. Restaurant was nice with enough food choices but not huge ranges (with corresponding huge waste usually!) like other bigger resorts might have. Drinks and food not included in your plan were close to London prices. The hotel offered excellent activities such as snorkelling/glass bottom boat trip to nearby reef, pedalos and kayaking, access to sauna and steam rooms all at no extra price. Overall a really lovely place to stay!
Don’t waste your time.
Construction right out the window. Terrible service. They say the meal is included and neglect to mention water is charged until it’s time to leave and you’re left with a bill. Food was not edible. Didn’t book any transportation as requested. The beach was dirty and disgusting. There’s plenty of other places that are 10x better and half the price.
We were wowed the moment we arrived at the hotel, the warmth of the hotel team’s welcome, swift and smooth check-in, immediate decor and view of the hotel, and not too mention the help we received unpacking a very messy car… The festive schedule was packed with delights, activities and celebrations. Arriving in Christmas day, we had an extra lovely buffet dinner. Though we had planned to travel during our stay, but decided that we were content with relaxing in the lovely surroundings of the hotel and the range of activities on offer. The hotel staff were the real star, very professional, friendly and helpful throughout our stay and made us feel at home. Our stay at Sands was part of our honeymoon in Mauritius- thank you to the team for making it extra special for us.
We had a lovely stay. Staff were friendly. Beautiful views of Le Morne. Staff are so friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and spacious. The lovely Brenda is always helpful and cheery :)
Great hotel, not too big so felt quite intimate. Staff very friendly and helpful. Location at the end was best on the strip overlooking Tamarin. Beautiful views from the infinity pool. Food good maybe a little more spice needed in some dishes
Great stay at Sands Suites
Superior Room are big and very nice. Hotel cleanliness is top. Breakfast is very good with a lot of choice. Evening buffet could be better though decent enough. Hotel has plenty of indoor/outdoor activities. Overall a great experience.
Perfect service, comfortable bed large room great bath great views. It wasbeyond our expectations and we hadagreat time.
I did not like the fact that a bottle of water at dinner was 7 times more expensive than the average price in the stores.. How can they justify such a price hike?
Lovely stay
From the moment we arrived, it has been amazing from Alvin greeting us to Soudesh helping us plan our day trips. All in all, a wonderful experience.
Lovely location, friendly staff, great suite with plenty of room. Food was very good but variable - would have preferred more, spicier local dishes. A wonderful holiday
Wondrful!
All good. Just a tip - the conceirge use a taxi for the tours. The taxi is not a tour guide and didn't take me to all the places listed on the brochure, nor was he able to tell me about any of the places/ history. A nice man nonetheless, but I used a tourguide the next day for same price and he was excellent.
Terrific
Lovely property in a fantastic location with attentive and very friendly staff. Had a great family holiday, we decided to have a relaxing break and just enjoy the facilities but a lot of trips away from the hotel available.
Our bedrooms on beach ground floor, the main building of hotel very attractive and not pretentious but nicely done in keeping with the place.
The hotel is located in one of the most beautiful places in Mauritius. The facilities are very good. The rooms are clean and big. The services are good and the employees are very friendly. We loved our stay and wewould next time choose to stay longer and probably not to switch hotel.
One of best hotels we've ever stayed in!
From the moment we arrived with valet parking and welcome drink to the moment we left with late check out and an espresso this hotel couldn't have done any more to make our stay more special. Every single one of the staff were super nice and attentive always checking how you were and if you need anything and knew us by name and room number. Fixing our pool towels, bringing poolside snacks etc. The food in main restaurant was exceptional a la carte and one night we were even surprised with a lovely beach setting dinner by the management. There's an option to eat in 2 other resaurants for a supplement but we honestly didn't see the need the food included was so good. I wish I could remember everyone's names as everyone was great but the ones I did get were Jerome, Brenda, Gitish, Selven etc...the valet guy, the pool guys and the boat house crew were really great, we had some water ski and sailing instruction all included in half board and the entertainment set up sega dancing and beach competitions for us to take part in. We've stayed in many nice hotels before, most notable the four seasons in Bora Bora and I can honestly say this hotel was on a par with it in terms of service but for a much more affordable price. Would go back in a heartbeat!
Best 2020 get-away
Amazing staff, nice location, best view of Mauritius and accessible. Food amazing
Honeymoon
My wife and I just came back from my honeymoon there. It was absolutely perfect, and they made special efforts for us for the honeymoon, and for my birthday.
Promesse tenue!
The Sands delivered what was promised! Very good feeling overall, adorable staff, good massages, great buffet every night, friendly size with around 92 rooms, quiet beach, nice aquagym. Thank you for a memorable stay.
Very High End, Dress Code Not Enforced
Very high end resort with all the amenities for a relaxing vacation. Very friendly and professional staff, ready to serve and attend to your needs and any issues that may arise. Quick and efficient check in/out with a complimentary drink both at check in and again at check out. Very clean and large room with a separate storage and makeup area. Nice view of grounds and the ocean from the balcony. Top end bathroom amenities, including robes snd slippers. Grounds very well kept and provided a relaxing atmosphere. The included buffet dinner was a different theme each night with good food variety, however the breakfast buffet had identical food items each morning which soon became repetitive. Strangely they charged $125 for a small bottle of water at dinner yet provided the same water bottles along with juices, tea, coffee, etc free of charge during breakfast. The other major issue was that a few weeks before your stay the resort emails you a very strict looking dinner dress code such as sleeved shirts and dress pants for men, yet does not enforce this code, as men would turn up in T shirts, shorts, flip flops etc which the email expressly forbids. The resort should either enforce the dress code or don't have one. The resort is located on the beach within a short drive to shops and a local shopping mall. Note, the car park is quite small and cars would have to be parked on side of street if full, although we managed to find a space during our stay. Overall we loved our stay here.
Very enjoyable, food was great, activities were as expected. Staff can improve on their communication and timing on getting requests done. The New year gala and Xmas dinner menu was very nice but (No alternative choices) A huge Euro Grab for what was forced/ pushed on the guest.
Fantastic!
This hotel exceeded all our expectations. I loved this place. Soooo relaxing and over-looking a beautiful, safe beach. If I was to return to Mauritius this is where I would stay. (We stayed at x 2 other resorts) and this by far was the best value for money and chilaxing.
Honeymoon
Perfect hotel to celebrate honeymoon. Service staff is very accommodating. The resort is very nice and extremly clean with three times roomservice a day. The every day changing buffet in the evening is excellent. I would highly recommend this hotel for a relaxing vacation.
The sea view of all rooms was wonderful. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. More restaurant choices would be good to have
3rd visit there & we made it known to them & they even looked after you even more & all staff very courteous.
Spacious room and excellent views!! Staff well trained and courteous. Suggestions: life jackets for glass bottom boat trip. Upcoming events/activities posted on tv inside the room would be nice. Over all, great resort for vacation!!
Exclusive suite was fantastic - loads of space, separate room for our daughter. Hotel facilities all excellent, service could not have been better or friendlier. Great buffet food. Lovely beach, very quiet, never felt crowded out. Lots of free trips such as glass bottom boat, snorkeling on the coral reef and kayaking all free. Can't recommend this place highly enough.
Beautiful property. Well maintained. All the staff were friendly, helpful and respectful. Loved the warm welcome we received with a refreshing welcome drink of our choice. The free water sport activities were very entertaining. The Boat House crew were exemplary, with their suggestions. A special thanks to Stephan for his advice on how to best use our time to maximise the benifits of the free water sports offered. Also a special thanks to Soundesh from the Concierge team for taking time out to plan our day trips into Port Louis and The South Tour. The In Room Service menu could do with an upgrade on the number of main courses offered.
Amazing experience
It was an amazing experience the hotel staff were very helpful
Check in system was unique! My family arrived hotel late night and the hotel staff greeted and gave us warm hand towel at the front of hotel. Small detail makes people happy from the long flight.
beautiful hotel
fabulous hotel, could not fault it . One of the best hotels we've ever stayed in.
views from the hotel are amazing, with the occasional siting of dolphins. the services provided were great and all our needs were catered for.
One of the best resorts I have ever stayed in. When we return we'll definitely be staying here again.
excellent
Family holiday on new year
We were upgraded to Maradiva it was a state of art hotel excellent in all means . Special thanks to MR KRISHNA AND MS WENDY
You can do much better for the same price!
This hotel is so overpriced in every area for what you receive. The 4* rating is a reach at best and once on site prices for everything go through the roof. As a Mauritian resident very au fait with 5* resorts, .... honestly I was beyond appalled! With the Hilton almost next door, I don’t know how they get away with it. Not recommended
Fantastic hotel, very friendly staff who cant do enough for you, no issues what so ever.
Excellent venue on the beach
We had a great experience from the friendly and relaxing greeting till the farewell. Staff couldn’t do enough. Free drinks and canapés at meet the staff night. Great Sega show and music with singers every night. We had a fabulous time.
Special place that list it’s way !
Returning to Sands has been a slight disappointment. Not the special place of memory.management Chasing pennies and staff who are bordering on disinterested left a sour taste.
Good hotel and great service
We had a good time during our stay. The service was great and the staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The location on the beech front was brilliant with amazing views. The condition of the hotel could have been better and probably needs a renovation. There are a lack of variety/options for dinner as there is only one restaurant.
Service could have been better, especially towards local residents
All round terrific hotel no obvious faults Food was excellent always varied and interesting All staff were first rate, pleasant and attentive
5 star experience
Rooms We were in a deluxe suite and the room was very large especially the bathroom & closet area. The room was clean and looked brand new. Service Service was definitely the highlight of our stay here. Right from check in till check out the service was excellent and a notch above our expectations. Needless to say the entire staff was polite and extremely helpful. The managers interacted with us daily. Deepak at travel desk helped us book our taxis and also negotiated for better rates. Food We were vegetarians and told them about our dietary needs during check in and did not have to repeat it ever. The internal communication was so efficient that the chefs and all waiters knew about our needs. Each day during dinner the chef made something vegetarian especially for us in addition to all the vegetarian dishes (pizzas and pastas) available in the buffet. Also the taste was excellent. Ambience The view of infinity pool looking over the indian ocean right when you enter the reception is just mesmerizing. The property is situated right on the Beach & you would feel u have a private beach at your disposal. Water activities All the equipment seemed brand new and the staff at boat house was extremely helpful. We tried few of the water activities and enjoyed a lot. We also went for swim with dolphins tour from here and although expensive then normal rates, it was worth it. Overall it was worth every penny. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Wonderful wonderful wonderful!! We had great time on our honeymoon Thank you
Wonderful relaxed stay at Sands Resort
We can highly recommend this Resort. We had a wonderful stay.
Everything at Sands Suites was top of the class - all the way from facilities offered, room conditions, staff etc. The staff always went above and beyond to help the guests. We were couple of hours late during check-out however they willingly offered us sufficient time and helped us throughout the process. The beach activities offered are comprehensive and the infinity pool has amazing view of the beach combined with the mountain. I would highly recommend this resort.
Disappointed
By morning of our first night, we had an ant infestation in our bathroom. They were not very responsive immediately, however did eventually show up. They treated the room, but later on I found an ant in my suitcase. As well, our sink was broken and leaked all over the floor. They had to fix it. The first night for dinner they had Chinese food, and it was barely edible. The next night was Indian food night and it was moderate at best. Of all the places we stayed on that island for our trip, this is facilitu had the worst food by far. It was overall just average.
Excellent.
We were upgraded to a beachfront luxury pool villa at the Maradiva.
Nice Quiet resort with great customer service.
Very nice quiet resort. Great customer service. Very quiet beach. Not crowded. The only kink was about wifi. It was slow. The location is a bit away from the restaurants and guests would require a taxi or a rental to get around should they want to explore. Our parents had an anniversary, when the management found out; they arranged for a surprise cake for our parents and we were pleasantly surprised. They cater to vegetarians and would always ensure we got choices. The chef and management would always come and check on us.
Amazing Resort
The resort was amazing. The staff are so helpful and every request we made was completed with a smile. The location was fantastic. I miss the wonderful view of the beach from our room already. Overall I don't have any complaints and would recommend staying here during a trip to Mauritius. We will be coming back.
Nice hotel on a beach
Nice hotel with a friendly atmosphere, very helpful stuff, good food.
Good choice
Sands Suite Resort and spa can definitely be recommended for a Mauritian stay. The resort is beautiful, rooms are spacious and gardens are well maintained and amazingly lush. Breakfast is five star quality. Dinner also big variety, esp if you like seafood. Unfortunately no drinks (not even water) included with dinner. Housekeeping bit intrusive, despite timeslots. Watersport activities big plus. Checkout not as efficient as check-in. We can definitely recommend Sands Suite resort and spa
Great hotel for couples
I've really enjoyed our short stay there with my husband and our daughter of 17 months. The staff are all great and attentive to our needs. The Sunday night Sega show was very entertaining. My husband has found the food great, as he loves seafood, for me it was just fine, as I am quite fussy, to be honest, don't do fish, pork and chicken (unless organic for that one), but I may be biased here, due to my eating habits. There were lots of fruits and salads and lovely desserts. The views from the bedrooms, restaurants and swimming pool were picture perfect, beach, sea and mountains views. I love my island. If you like night life, Flic En Flac is just a 5 minutes drive away, but to be honest, I'm just happy to relax and do nothing else in the beautiful surroundings of the hotel. The service is great, late afternoon, they bring some rhum or fresh juice and little cakes to the room. The bathrooms are good sized ones.
Perfect
This is our second visit to the Sands and it remains as fantastic as it was the first time. The beach and pool areas are beautiful with plenty of sunbeds. The rooms are modern and clean. The staff fantastic. Perfect for a quiet beach holiday, though there is plenty of free water sports to try if you want to be a bit more active.
Stay here if you love the beach!
Imagine stepping out of your room on to a quiet beach at dusk, the sun sliding in to the Indian Ocean, the waves, stars and a gentle breeze. A path of candlelights lead you to a table laid just for you. You chat endlessly, unhurried, over 4 courses of chef prepared food. Then 'Voila' I get on my knee and propose to my future husband and present him with a ring. You can choose your own experience at The Sands: romance, water sports, bike ride, yoga, infinity pool, beach, bar, etc. But it's the staff is what makes the resort outstanding, I cant pick out any staff member as they were all competent and likeable. I have been to other resort hotels where they constantly want to sell you things but not here. As a gay couple we felt accepted by staff and other guests alike, many of whom became friends during the week.
Quiet hotel with great staff service
From the check in in our rooms to late check out this stay has been marked by staff's helpfulness especially Brenda at dinner, and the great bar staff and management who gracefully accommodated many of the guests of the wedding party that didn't realise they'd all booked in the same hotel. The hotel is normally a quiet hotel with little happening post-10pm but when faced with guests wanting to dance gamely put on more entertainment for longer. This along with the free water sports, the beautiful views and fantastic breakfast made this a top choice of hotel.
Very comfortable, peaceful hotel
This is our 5th stay at the Sands. The hotel is very customer oriented and both managers and staff are very helpful trying to solve any small problems. We were very touched by the Welcome back sign made from garden plants that greeted us in our room. We enjoyed the tray of evening cocktail that were brought to our door for our enjoyment. M. Jean, our restaurant manager, was very charming and ensured that we were given good seats for dinner and breakfast. He was genuinely aiming to please at all times. Special thanks to M. Patrick the hotel manager who took time to come and welcome us back to the resort and greet us in the morning. We were always treated as special guests. We thouroughly enjoyed our stay and we will be back next year.
Luxury and relaxation
We chose Mauritius and Sands Suites to celebrate a special occasion. As it was our first time there we hoped that our research would pay off and the holiday would be all that we imagined. In fact, the resort exceeded our expectations and it was quite simply the holiday of a lifetime. The resort itself is set in a fantastic beach location with views of the mountains. The infinity pool and lounging area is very relaxing and great for idling the days away in the sun. The Rainbow bar serves delicious lunches and fabulous cocktails. The restaurant buffet (both breakfast and dinner) is exceptional in its quality (and quantity too if you wanted seconds and thirds!). Last, but by no means least, I have to mention the staff at Sands Suites. Everyone there was dedicated, polite and always happy to help. Above all it was the staff who made our holiday so perfect. A special mention to Selven who always went out of his way to ensure we had the best possible time. I cannot recommend Sands Suites highly enough and we hope one day to return.
Delightful 4 start hotel
Very comfortable, large room with large bathroom and decent balcony. Beach towels, bathrobes and slippers provided. Daily cleaning and turndown service at time slots you choose. The food was good, although I would probably have got bored of it on a longer stay as they have loosely themed which seem to repeat during the second week. The main restaurant is buffet style for breakfast and evening meal, and there is a good selection. There is also an a-la-carte restaurant if you fancy sitting down and being served, and the quality and presentation there was a lovely surprise. The staff were always very keen to please – my only criticism being they were not that helpful when we wanted to arrange a tour of the South, so we ended up arranging it ourselves. Good wifi available throughout the hotel. 2 tennis courts opposite the front gates which you can book. Rackets and balls available, but take your own if you are a serious player. We would recommend the Sands to people of all ages who want a pleasant, relaxing holiday. There were couples of all ages there. There were a few babies or very young kids, but not many. There are security guards on the beach, so you feel very safe, and the view is stunning. We had a couple of breath-taking sun sets and saw some beautiful birds and bats. But possibly my favourites were the frogs who live near the pond at reception and who liked to accompany the various bands that played each evening.
Memorable stay at Sands!
I really enjoyed our stay at Sands! We loved the snorkeling and the beach area. Mary was brilliant from Reception.
It was an excellent stay! Would definitely be back
Perfect for a quiet, relaxing holiday
This was our second stay at the Sands and we loved it just as much as our first, five years ago. In terms of facilities there are better hotels in Mauritius, particularly if you have children with you, but what sets the Sands head and shoulders above any other hotel I've ever visited is its team of staff who are utterly superb. If you want to go somewhere you cam completely switch off, relax and unwind, this is the place to do it.
Very nice hotel on the beach
Enjoyed very much that upon receiving my booking, I was assigned a guest relation agent who was available to help with any problems. I very much enjoyed that the check in was done in our room and enjoyed the sparkling wine. The food at the restaurant was superb. The entertainment was elegant... not too loud like in some other establishments in Mauritius. The welcoming gifts were very tasteful. We enjoyed the refined touch of an evening aperitif that was delivered to our room each evening. The stay was sprinkled with a variety of little complimentary touches that defined the establishment. The one little problem was ironed out thanks to the intervention of Melissa my guest relation agent. It is the perfect place for rest & relaxation in a classy environment.
Great but...
Wonderful location, excellent hotel, good staff. The premises is modern and the location is very beautiful. But the quality of food included full board is disappointing - canteen quality. Drinks pricing silly expensive including €3 for bottle of water with meals.
Great Experience Overall
We enjoyed our stay at the hotel and were pleased with overall quality. The upkeep of the hotel, rooms is good and the room size was very good. Though all rooms are sea view, but in a few rooms, the view is partial blocked by the palm trees. The buffet was a choice of different menu on all days(06 Nights).
Nice Get Away
The hotel was of the best standard. While all of the staff were very efficient one or two of them needed to show a little warmth and smile. While the hotel is faultless the location meant an expensive taxi journey to get anywhere or to get day to day necessities. It woulds have been helpful if the hotel had supplied a some form of transport to get to the local town which was 5k away.
Small quiet hotel. Good general facilities.
All in all a very good professional hotel. A little on the expensive side for snacks and drinks but this is an island wide resort hotel issue as opposed to this hotel alone. Perhaps they could start a trend and offer an inclusive drinks package. The beach is very shallow (thigh deep) for most of the day and there are a lot of spiky sea urchins, and lots of broken coral around. The spa (sauna, steam & not very warm hot tub) is small with only room for six users at once but it was never too busy. The resort is quite far from the main resort and nearest shops but there was not a lot to see there anyway. A taxi to the shops and back is 500MuR. The evening entertainment is mostly live bands who usually play sleep inducing tunes between 8pm and 9.30 then slightly more upbeat tunes until 10/1030. We generally never made it to 9.30, instead retiring to our room to watch a movie instead. All in all though a pleasant hotel with nice large suites.
Paradise perfection
I loved this hotel. The view was amazing, the beach lovely, the food tasty, and my room was enormous. The wifi was good enough to stream Netflx and Skype home. My only quibble was the insanely expensive lunch at the resort, which I avoided after the first $18 sandwich.
Beautiful setting for a luxury hotel
Excellent hotel. Staff always smiling and very friendly. Hotel facilities are excellent and the beach and the views are amazing. Good choice of food in hotel, although lunch menu could have more items. Prices in the bar are very expensive, so guests do not stay in bar after dinner, so bar is quite empty. Entertainment was good with varied selection of music, etc. Hotel is the last hotel on the road, so the beach is quiet and private. There are plenty of places to go and eat around the hotel, but they are about 15 minutes walking distance. Taxis are readily available outside hotel, so is a local bus stop, an experience you should not miss - using the local buses...
Great hotel on the west coast!!
We found all the staff super friendly, which made our stay even more pleasant. Big thank you to the chef, Ashok, and manager, Vinay, for making sure we were really looked after as vegetarians on the food front! We had gone half board, and found that worked really well for the days we were out and about (i.e. flexible for lunch). The rooms are large, spacious and clean. Definitely 4 star comfort, probably not 5 star overall. The pool is 5 star as are the sunsets and the views... we had a great 5 days. Thank you Sands Suites!!!
This can be 5* resort - one day
The location is more then perfect ! Same the beach and resort's pool. Nice, lately renovated resort with clean rooms and cul de sac beach side. If the general manager had a sence of unique location and guests needs for relaxing stay of resort quests he would never hire live music ( with loud drums ) to play till late night on grounds facing quests room ( where you have no choice to escape ). Same with Chinese New Year where without any info to resort guests heavy fireworks took place and we - interupted from sleep - did not know if something like in Paris last year happens at Sands suites & resorts ... . ( his response to our complain was : " thank you for understanding " ). Local staff ( specialy kitchen ) approach made us very happy . Food and beverage service was just the best ( breakfast and diner buffet had no large choice of food and fruits but chefs tried their best to keep clients happy ). What we did not find even funny was charging 118 Rupies for 0.7 l bottle of water ( which regulary cost in the shop max. 18 Rupees ) from the bar or during the diner - you have no other choice just to accept this rip off and ask yourself why they do it . Generally we can recommend this resort as future 5* facilities.
Most splendid holiday venue to dream of .....
Excellent hotel, swimming pool, nature environment, bird life and bats (flying foxes). Hotel staff friendly, helpful and supportive. Excellent beach activities. Boat house staff top class!
Everything looks clean on surface
Resort is in a good position and all have sea view. Free water activities. Most of the dinning room and cleaning staff were friendly. Great wifi connection. Huge room and bathroom. Love the closet! People at reception area are superficial. Everything (pool, gym, spa) closes at 20:00. Food is not very good and bottled water is expensive.
Great Pool, Relaxing stay.
Staff friendly and helpful. The pool was in a great spot. The cleaners woke us up at 6am cleaning neighboring rooms though.
Hotel right on beach
The staff were very friendly on arrival. It is a nice hotel although I did not get to use many of the facilities .I was in Mauritius visiting relatives.
Fantastic Resort Hotel, a little secluded
We went on our honeymoon and everything about the hotel was fantastic. Nice room, great service, lovely food.... What more could you want. Be prepared to spend quite a bit of money on food though - the hotel's at the end of the coastal road which you cannot walk, so unless you get a taxi to Flic-en-Flac et al (which isn't cheap either), you'll find that eating at the hotel every night is really the only option you have.
Very relaxing place
Very good service, Beautiful view and very relaxing . But get smell of smokers from down stair apartment . Lacks Mauritian food and vegetarian options.
Great value for money
We enjoyed coming back to this wonderful place with a wonderful staff and the special attention to details setup for us and which seems a great common practice by the hotel staff and management. we will definitely comeback again soon. The room was great and spacious, the service was exceptional and the staff was wonderful whether it is the restaurant, bar, gym, reception or entertainment, I'd rate the staff a 5 over 5. It's a place where we feel people have a "can do" attitude where they will go out of their way to make customers happy. Just one area for improvement is the food choices which was a limited and the quality was average. I understand that there has been a change in the "Chef" over the past few years but an improvement would definitely make SANDS a great place to stay on the west coast. We have tried multiple hotels over the past few weeks here, including Hilton and Sugar Beach and besides the food, THE SANDS are above those hotels by far.
Fantastic hotel
Wonderful experience. Faultless hotel. Great staff and thoughtful, perfect service. Huge choice of excellent food at dinner and breakfast. Lots of small and unexpected extra touches during our stay. A treat from start to finish.
Beautiful quieter hotel with stunning location
My first review was rejected so this one is brief, all I can say is everything was lovely - room, hotel, staff, infinity pool etc was amazing. Highly recommended
fabulous holiday spot
We had d best experience.. It has d most hospitable staff.. D most awesome view..very friendly people.. We've come back with fond memories and would love to go back and stay there again.
Perfect end to a perfect holiday!
My boyfriend and I stayed for 3 nights and it was the perfect end to our holiday... The staff were amazing, the food was good, the free activities included water skiing and glass bottoms boats there is something for everyone. I can't wait to return in November!
Small comfortable resort hotel.
Relative to other resort hotels we have stayed in, this is small comfortable resort hotel in a location providing outstanding views and good facilities.
Great service and lovely position
We have stayed at the Sands before and were pleased to return to it. It is is the best position at the end of a row of hotels. It has an enclosed cove beach while others have limited beaches. The service was great despite the hotel preparing to close for the season and for extensive renervation. The rooms were big and well appointed but a bit old and the bathrooms definitely needed freshening. We look forward to vising again after the work is done winter 2014.
Great beach, bad food
We stayed for the second part of our honeymoon for 9 nights. The pool and beach were great and there were lots of activities. Everything was clean and the staff were friendly. However, the room was bland and dated and the food was overpriced and not very good at all. Generally, food in Mauritius is amazing - it's a mix of French and Indian, two of the best cuisines in the world, how could it not be?! - but unfortunately the Sands food was at best bland and at worst horrible. I think in general the problem is a lack of thought and adaptability. When you have had a completely empty dance floor all week, turn the blaring Abba and disco lights off, at least whilst we eat our dinner!
Nice but room and facilities quite old
The hotel had a nice pool and beach but once we got to the room, we thought the toilet and room were old and tired looking. Location was at the end of the road and not easy to access other locations or restaurants unless by car or walking very far. After paying so much for the stay, we realised that the hotel only gave 2 bottles of water regardless of the no. of days you're staying! The choice for breakfast was also not much and lacking, same type of food served throughout our stay. It was a nice stay but I'd try other hotels in Mauritius the next time..
The perfect Resort in every way!!
We loved everything about The Sands Resort!! It has it's own private beach, the friendliest staff. The head concierge took wonderful care and concern for us! They go out of their way to please you and treat you special!! The food is fabulous , the drinks are fabulous . It has the most beautiful view. The most beautiful infinity pool. They will take you snorkeling right off the beach. The room and balcony was beautiful and perfect! I can't say enough...we are so happy we chose this resort!! We saw a lot of the others, and this is by far everything we wanted . You can't beat the price for what you get!! I can't imagine why the other resorts cost so much more...this one has so much more to offer. We were there for New Years Eve 2013... They served the most beautiful, elegant, romantic dinner..had a wonderful party and Fireworks display!! Awesome!! We are from Texas, and you know. They do everything bigger in Texas...and this by far exceeded everything we ever expected!! We can't wait to go back!!!
Great Staff
The best aspect of the hotel was its staff, who were always friendly, polite and very helpful. Beautiful location beside the sea, and dinner was served under a different theme every night. The closest bus stop is a 10-15-minute walk, otherwise need a car. We were a little disappointed about the music every night, because it continued until past 22:00 and we didn't have any choice than listening to it even in the room. Too loud to watch TV or go to bed, even if we closed the window.
Exceptional service and value for money
I was really impressed with the Sands. After researching thoroughly on the best place to stay in Mauritius we settled on the Sands and did not regret it for a second. Service was first class, the amenities were great and the location was terrific being close to Flic en Flac and a great little shopping centre with a Pick n Pay. The rooms are good and spacious. The bathroom will probably need updating soon but it was fine. The bed felt a little hard for me and could have been little more comfy but that would be my only complaint. All up I thoroughly recommend the Sands without hesitation. The staff were simply wonderful!
Mauritius Holiday
The Sands is a very nice Resort with beautifull gardens and pool area. The beach is ok but you need foot protection due to the broken up coral that washes up onto the beach in most parts. The room we had was clean to start with but with staying for 11 nights the upkeep was very rushed. We had the bed replaced twice as the right side was collasped. They replaced the top mattress first but after 2 nights I found that the bottom support base had its main beam broken which was causing the problem & this was eventually replaced. Toilet issues where also eventially repaired but they did offer us another upgraded family apartment style room which we refused as we only had another 2 nights left & they ended up repairing the toilet late in the afternoon. Food buffet every night was good for the first week but we were over it by then. Wine is very expensive - House wine equates to $44.00 a bottle in our dollars.
Not happy!
I would not recommend anyone to stay here. The staff was unfriendly. There were no English TV channels in the room and when asked, the staff replied "sometimes you get and sometimes you don't". The food in the Spices restaurant was horrible. Overall the resort seems cramped and not as beautiful as a shown in the photos. Not a good value for your money. I had stayed on the east coast for less and had a much much better experience ...
Luxury but a bit boring and very expensive
Staff were great, and the facilities and rooms are luxury. My husband and i were there for our honeymoon and we found the whole resort very boring. You can take part in water sports however you have to book and the activities are limited. For example you can take out a canoe but can only go up to the buoy's so you would do just as well to take it to the pool!!! Also we paid $10 for a large glass of orange juice. All of the drinks and food are very expensive, expect to spend over $100 per couple per day. great if the sun is shinning, boring if it is not. Also the resort is at least a ten minute taxi ride into the local town (so you can buy water etc) Water in the supermarket costs 14 rupees, in the hotel it is 90!. Everyone had eaten and gone to bed by 10pm, not for young married couple i would suggest going to the North of the island so you have beach and more variety of restaurants.
Lovely hotel with a very thoughtful staff. Great place to relax and options for adventure. Food options at both breakfast and dinner were excellent.
