The beach at Sandos Playacar is probably its best quality - it is unmatched! The front family pool area is superb! The food here is also top-notch. Service is terrific. We enjoyed the cupcake cafe and taco buffet also. The entertainment was pretty good. Being there with kids, there is a large area of the resort they are not allowed. For us that was a bummer. We didn’t use the upper pools much, they were cold. Possibility due to being shaded much of the afternoon.
Had a great time. Our trip was made even more enjoyable with the great service from staff especially a girl named Kena who took care of all our needs whether it was excursions, information, bookings for meals or transportation. She definitely made our trip much better.
It was the worst trip of our lives.
The beach and staff was frendly ,i deffinetly recommend .
Huge property with lots of pool options, restaurants, and gorgeous beach
Awesome pools and beach, and the property had a plenty of space and list of activeties The night shows are really Nice. The rooms are a little outdated, but still enjoyable.
Good property, exclusive club was in middle of family area a little too much, wish room was stocked with liquor like most other all inclusives, sewage got backed up by front but they cleaned that quickly, towels were not there when we checked in but they fixed that as well
After a 14 hour experience to get there we were put in a room with no water and no phone working and I and my wife are in the late 70 and this was at the furthers end of the property (1 kilometre) from the beach and changed me 6160.00 pesos to upgrade to an elite room close to the beach as we have trouble walking long distances. After getting up at 4:00am to leave for Mexico it’s now 9:00 pm we finally get to the elite suite the air conditioning is so noisy we have to shut it off to sleep and on the second last the fan assembly of the air conditioning unit fell off with a loud bang and after waiting 2 hours a repair man fixed. Also the bathroom had lots of mould on the ceiling and they totally refused to compensate the 6160 pesos for the week. The building wire elite suite had 2 of 3 elevato permanently out order so made very hard for us at our age to do the stairs. So yes never Sandos for us ever again
Great stay! Great food! Great staff!
Sandos Playacar is absolutely amazing! Their costumer service goes above and beyond! SO MANY employees that made our experience amazing! Very clean! Great variety of restaurants and food, and the buffet is SO good! A lot of activities from music, to water sports, to shows! In the Spa, Thank you Araceli for your kindness and extra TLC. At our new years celebration, thank you Rodolfo for answering all my questions and making sure we had exactly what we wanted; thank you also Teodoro for helping us in wine selections; and thank you Juan for going the extra mile at the New Year celebration and also at the delicious Gourmex restaurant. Thank you Isabel at the buffet, and Alex and all the boys from the pool bar.
Food made our entire group plus many other groups that arrived around the same time as us very sick. Spent most of our vacation in our room to sick to enjoy anything.
Great Place to stay and lots of selection for food items. Bonus was the Adults exclusivity
Very good property. Well taken care of in all respects
Excelente, volvería
Great staff. Exceptional House Keeping for our room. Dinning selections were plentiful. Bar staff were very friendly and seemed happy to serve.
The property is beautiful with lots of dining options. Our 2nd visit. Beautiful beach and multiple pool areas to choose from. We had some awesome dining experiences along with a couple unsatisfactory experiences. Rooms are very spacious. The property was always very clean but some areas a little dated. If you're in the back family section, it's about a 8 min walk to the beach but there are a couple pools right around the corner. Night life & entertainment is limited. Kid friendly.
We had a blast! Lots of activities, good food and drinks & a great beach. The staff were great and we would go back again.
The food was good no matter where we ate. The Hydrotherapy pool was too cold to enjoy the experience.
Confortable, fun, good food, good service
Lots of lush greenery and the beach is amazing! Food is quite good as well. Lots of walking. We were at the very back but had our own pool and near by restaurant plus the swim up bar and pool we had actually came around to serve unlike the beach one. Overall was pleasantly impressed with this place for the price.
L
Sandos has the best beachfront in playa del carmen! We really enjoyed staying here and bikes rentals were an added bonus.
Tge customer service was terrible
The staff was really rude to us.
We enjoyed our trip. It was tough to get reservations at some restaurants. We ended not going to them at all. Food is great just makes whatever you eat from buffets are cooked properly. The shows was great.
It was a great experience, it's worth it to repeat!
Gracias por todo ❤️
I would have given the property condition a five star but the room seemed a little outdated. Not a wow factor for the price. And I couldn't open sliding door to balcony area.
Beautiful property and amazing beach. The food was the worst tasting of the many all inclusives I’ve stayed at. Also ended up with a stomach bug that seems to be sweeping through the resort right now. Room was comfortable and clean. There was a weird red light motion sensor in the bathroom that they assured me was not a camera. The resort is huge and a long walk from family rooms. I would not return but that beach was amazing.
The property was beautifully maintained and staff were helpful. We did have some issues being able to get enough towels and no room cleaning on our final day.
Great time
Property was clean, safe, and lots of amenities in and around the resort. Staff wasn't overly friendly or going out of their way. Both my wife and I ended up getting food poisoning while there. If you don't have kids or like to hear kids screaming and hollering, I would advise to book in the adult only section. Solid 3 stars.
Everyone in our group plus everyone we met had been so very sick from the food at the resort. Every day of our trip was affected because of someone so sick they couldn't leave the room. Not one staff member seemed concerned about this except the entertainment staff.
We stayed at the Sandos Playa Del Carmen for one week to attend a wedding. There was an issue with the food or water because 21 out of the 50 who attended the wedding became ill. The following week there was a post from another wedding where 70 of their guests came down ill. We drank water from the jugs provided and not from the tap, so feel that the issue came from the food. This property is in desperate need of an upgrade. The most serious issue is with the toilets. Every washroom that i used had at least 1 and often more toilets out of service. My wife said the womens washrooms were in even worse condition. We paid too dollar to attend this wedding and cannot recommend this resort. On a positive note, the staff were great. Very hard working and willing to help if needed. Daryl
Everything
Friendly helpful staff nice beach and pool lush landscape rooms need modern upgrades
Everyone was very friendly except Josue at the front desk he lied and tried to charge me $50 for a card for a beach card that was taken by housekeeping
I didn't like the food at the Asian restaurant the buffet was better
Lost luggage didn’t receive it till 6:30pm door lock wasn’t working couldn’t fix it, no hot water,no organization on there transport thru the hotel, worst customer service ever specially luis front DESK.
This was the best resort we have stayed at . The food was amazing and the pictures lived up to there name . My kids had a blast. The beach was gorgeous !!!! We will be returning there for sure.
Third time there. Absolutely love the property.
We felt in the middle of the nature, pristine waters, white sand, lots of greenery and animals - monkeys, raccoons, capybara walking around. Food was amazing, sport activities for teens
Took 14 people there. Employees worked hard to take carer of us. Room was big and cleaned. Most of the shows were great. However, it was a 15 minute walk to the beach at a fast pace. The tram they use is slow and not very safe or reliable. Somedays we didn't have hot water. Very poor water pressure. Sliding door was extremely hard to open. Need better lighting on trails with signs.
The outside areas of the property were beautiful and well taken care of. We enjoyed our daily walks to the beach and restaurants. Our first room was old and dirty. The air conditioning didn’t work, so after two days (at 11:00 pm) we finally got a new room. This new one was more updated and cleaner. We asked for a later check out in return for the inconvenience of the first room, but they said no and told us we would have to be charged. That seemed like a small ask, and one that would have left us feeling better about our stay, but they wouldn’t budge. Overall, the food was good. Breakfast and lunch at the buffets always filled us up. We especially liked the Asian and Italian restaurants. It can be difficult to get reservations, so that is important to do right away. We couldn’t get any the first two nights we were there. That was disappointing. The entertainment team was fantastic all week! They always had things to do for kids on the beach. We enjoyed the nightly shows. All the servers and people we encountered on the grounds were very nice and helpful!
We had a nice time there with our adults kids and grandkids. Cons. Adult only rooms were older and electricity was out for days per other people while there and they didn’t offer a refund or to move to other rooms with AC and electricity working. Rooms were outdated and could use better care. Long walks from the family area to beach and large buffet. Buffett for lunch only open by the beach and none by the family pool and rooms. Free for all when the trolly came by making it hard for older adults and people with children to get on. Pros. Nice drink menu for all inclusive. Buffet had a lot of options. Rooms were clean. Staff were friendly. Beach was great and clean with hardly any waves. Kids pool area offered fun for all ages. Expedia shouldn’t show the pictures of the main pool and all the bars since you aren’t able to use all of them with the package they sell you. You need to be Royal elite and that’s for time share people only. I fell in love with the pool in the picture and wasn’t able to use it. Expedia needs to update the actual information of what they are selling you.
Upon arrival, check-in took too long. It was 15 of us staying at this resort and we had 5 rooms total, 3 of which had cockroaches in the room. Staff wasn’t helpful and they didn’t seem to care. Overall, customer service was terrible. Will not be returning to this resort.
Pros - staff super nice, my youngest broke his teeth day two and the buffet near us made him mashed potatoes - lots of activities Cons -Nicest pools were adult only or re only - husband got food poisonin day 5 and lasted more than a week - while he had food poisonin we didnt have runnin water for half a day, complained and no one came. Turned on the tap in all taps and zero water - long distance to walk to beach or for food and trolley was hard to get other ppl pushy - food just average - zero elevators worked in our building and we has to carry our wagon up and down each time - blasting music at the family pool right outside our room everyday which some ppl enjoyed but wasnt our vibe
Family came for a wedding. I cant get a drink by the beach because of my band. Roach in my room. Everything shut down at 11, so no food or drinks. Have to wait for a shuttle, once its fun outbof luck, you have to wait 20 minute for the next shuttle. I observed that i got a harder time due to my color. I was told at the beach i cant be at certain area because of my band but the people next to me they didnt tell them anything with the same color band. Its is an okay hotel.
Ac was perfect indoors
Great for families, incredible beach!!!
The smell around the property was terrible. Smells like fecies.
Travelled as a family with kids 4 & 6, stayed in a 1 bedroom suite in a hacienda and it was perfect for some privacy. Each side had its own bathroom and thermostat (but one side never seemed to shut off the ac). Kids loved the water slides at two different pools and seeing the animals. There is a fair amount of walking to get around but it was managed by everyone but the 4 yr old. Buffet had a variety but also similar items daily and also had a station that would change from smoothies for breakfast to ceviche at lunch and margaritas & Paloma’s for dinner. We did arrive on a day of torrential rain which caused leaks in our room and others. Our room didn’t need repair but we heard from many others who struggled to get their rooms fixed up. We did have an issue getting into our room after check in where our bracelet/key wouldn’t open the door. Asked at guest services and they were supposed to send someone over right away but after an hour we had to go back to the front desk to get someone to fix it so that we could get into the room. Overall the property is large and spread out which means lots of walking but also lots of trees and scenery. Food was good not great, service in restaurants was also good. Buildings do require some repairs as they all do. Guest services seems to be lacking between requests as well as getting items replenished in the rooms when being cleaned. I might stay here again and I would discuss the issues with other interested parties before they were to book
This was our first stay at an all-inclusive and I would say overall it was good however the elevator up to our floor was “under maintenance” all week, room service was always cold, the tram was usually full, our late check-out that we paid for was interrupted numerous times with confused staff, buffet food was so-so, my daughter got sick and we bought some lozenges from the “gift shop” and they were overpriced by $30. Walk down the street off the resort to the pharmacy and buy things if needed. The massage was amazing, the beach was amazing, lots of gluten free options, snorkeling from the hut on the beach we’d recommend
The food was below average, water pressure was not good, elevators did not work, 10 minite walk tobthe beach, lack of entertainment, just not worth the money you get so much more staying in Cancun
The resort grounds are so beautiful. The ocean and beach are perfect. The staff is unreal. The food is a 8/10 with a few rare misses and the vibes are immaculate
The staff are amazing, very clean super helpful, food was amazing. They upgraded us to premium at no charge, But then continually bugged us to go to a timeshare meeting, which I wasn’t a fan of. The check in took us almost an hour and a half, which was super frustrating, After traveling all day . My other Complaint is how much you have to walk. We were in the family section, our room was the farthest away from the main things in the resort. It was a A 10 -15 minute walk to main buffet, Entertainment, à la cart, restaurants, teen club And about a 20 minute walk to the beach. There were days that I put on 15 km walking back-and-forth. By day 3 your feet and your leg legs hurt. They do have a Tran But most of the time it’s too full and you can’t get on it and probably takes 15 to 20 minutes every round depending in the time of day. Besides that it was a great experience with my family and I did have a wonderful week . Definitely family friendly.
It was way too far to walk from the family areas to all the dining and shows and to the beach. 15-20 min walk each way. The trolly that would bus from each end was very limited on seating and only came every 20 min or so. If you missed it you would be waiting about as long as it takes to walk. It took me 40 minutes to go back to my room and grab kids goggles and come back. With 3 young kids a double stroller and a pregnant wife, it was not very easy to get around. The shows were great but short only 30 min. Buffet was also really good.
Property, beach restaurants and staff is all great t this resort but our room was stuffy and warm. In one whole week we had probably 2 cool nights. We were in unit 6606 which was a 1 bedroom suite and was not worth what we paid for it at all without cold AC! We called maintenance many times they came to check it out 3 or 4 times. On all occasions saying it would cool in 45 minutes to an hour and nothing would change! Very disappointing to ay the least.
love this place
This place is awesome!!!! We had a great family time.
Nice big resort, lots of walking. The beach is absolutely astonishing, beautiful sand, lots of activities. Teen club was a big hit for the kids in the evenings. Good shows. Cupcake cafe was our go everyday.
Loved it here. Will stay again any chance I get
Layout of the property is horrible. The family section is farthest from the aqua park and beach. The one trolly to get you there only holds 24 people, and there is 819 rooms. So there is a ton of walking. Not enough signs for where you’re going or coming from unless you download an app. We (family of 5) will not recommend or go back to this resort.
I have been here 3 times and have also brought an recommended others to come but sadly this will be my last time also for my family. Wrong accommodations, rooms outdated, and to top it off roaches in the bathroom. They were more interested in trying to sell me the 'Elite Membership' instead of trying to keep a loyal customer happy.Loosing one customer is too many in any business.
This was by far the worst all inclusive resort I’ve ever stayed in. The food was not good. I didn’t eat one thing that made me want to eat it again while there. The alcohol served to us was very cheap. We did not have our room cleaned for the first 2 days and had to actually call to request that it be cleaned. The water pressure in the showers was very low. Very few activities to participate in on the resort. We were suppose to receive wine in the room as Expedia VIP but never received it even after requesting it 3 times. We also had a spa credit that they wouldn’t accept at checkout when we paid for our spa services and stated that this credit would’ve had to be used at the time the spa service was booked. Animals, that appeared to be sickly monkeys and raccoons, were all around the resort going in people bags at the pools. I would never stay here again even if it was for free.
Todo super chevere nos encanto esperamos volver pronto
Room was cleaned daily and food was overall good but servers seem tired and overloaded with work. Most of them seem unhappy to be there or too busy to provide good customer service
We had a party of 16 with us. Everyone had some kind of issues at some point. Starting off with one of the bags getting lost and never found upon arrival. We had rain for a couple days and had issues with one room leaking which led to a room relocation. We had issues with our door would not open due to some programming error, 4 times to be exact. Property is nice, plenty of food to choose from but we had to deal with too many things this time around. This was our second time going back to that property, but we will consider other properties when we go back to Cancun.
One thing we didnt like at all was that it took 15 minutes to walk to the restaurant and 20 minutes to the beach
Overall great. There was alot of ran over 3 days and so the structure was experiencing some leaks. The staff were out managing it the best based on the amount of rain and winds. One bathroom in the buffet area was challenged as well.
Room outdated, reserved 1 king bed,was given 2 queen beds, the air conditioner didnt work and to top it off... Roaches. I have been hete before a couple years ago an everything was good. Now all they emphasize is trying to sell you the black bracelet(Elite). They have lost a loyal customer.
Great hotel for adults and family, lots of activities and restaurant options, walkable to the core of play del Carmen, bikes are available to Use in gated community, kayaks snorkels, water boards and paddle boards are available for free as well! Free nightly shows! There is a little water park for kids! Great resort overall
Beautiful beach
Property was great very big with a lot to do.
**Review of Sandos Playacar, Mexico** I recently stayed at Sandos Playacar, and it was an incredible experience. From the warm welcome to the exceptional service from our guide Kena, everything was top-notch. **Food:** The resort offered a fantastic array of dining options. The buffet was fresh and diverse, while specialty restaurants like the Italian and Asian venues provided outstanding meals with exquisite flavors. **Hotel Room:** Our room was spacious, beautifully decorated, and very clean, complete with a comfortable bed and a lovely balcony view of the gardens. **Restaurants:** Each restaurant had a unique atmosphere, and the attentive staff made great recommendations. The themed nights added to the culinary adventure. **Gym:** The fitness center was well-equipped, allowing me to maintain my workout routine. **Spa:** The spa was a heavenly retreat. I enjoyed a rejuvenating massage in a serene atmosphere, with a variety of treatments available. I also loved the complementary hot tub experience. **Beach:** The stunning beach featured soft white sand and crystal-clear waters. The beach staff were attentive, enhancing our relaxation with towels and refreshments. **Concert:** The evening concert added vibrancy to our stay, with live music creating a fun atmosphere for all guests. **Customer Service:** The customer service was exceptional, especially from KENA who provided invaluable insights and made us feel like VIPs throughout our visit. Great experience!
Enjoy every bit of my stay!
Terrible food Bad costumer service Scams Bad smells
The staff was very friendly. Beautiful property.
Beautiful resort. The entertainment was also ready l really great. Definitely enjoyed my time and hope to be back!
What I liked was the temperature of the pools, the room temperature and jacuzzi, I also loved the twin stacked up bed for the kids they loved it. The kids area was nice and entertaining. The staff was so so, long times for check in process and long times for checkout. Overall the staff was not very friendly except for the waitresses on the Main buffete. The taste of the food was good overall but many times they didn't refiled the buffet on time so not many diahes were ready at the time. The things I disliked mostly are the smell of the sewer pipes that was very strong in many areas of the Hotel including the main entrance of the buffet area. The floor on the secondary restaurants was like greasy and slipery all the time and a few other maintenance issues related with the window locks an general maintenance of thw building.
Great experience
we're in love with the property and staff except for their time share sellers because they get upset if you don't agree to go to the seminar.
The property is old and run down. Most elevators did not work. The transportation that would take us around the hotel was never on time at 1st service. Asian restaurant was terrible uncooked rice in the sashimi. NY steak at the steakhouse was hard and full of fat steak cuts at the buffet were way better and that should say a lot. Average property with potential with a lot of work it can be good.
Kena was amazing
Very nice friendly family hotel. Felt very safe!
Sandos is good place to stay
Na
Great resort
Safe
It was the greatest vacation of my life. Me and my girlfriend stayed here for 5 days and every day was better than the last. I wish I never had to leave. I’ll be back for sure sometime in my life
Upon my arrival , I was not greeted by any staff or offered a welcome drink. The guy with the welcome drinks walked right past my co worker and I. Upon waiting 1 hour to check in , the woman refused to give us the room we paid for which was described as 2 queen beds , AC , Adult only and a tub. Unfortunately, we were placed in a room with two full beds , no working AC and no tub (a dirty shower ). After a long flight we were extremely hungry and tired asked for assistance with the broken AC but no one came. We went for a early dinner at the French restaurant and decided to not show to our second reservation of the night because of the distance/couldn’t find it(the shuttle was always full and/or didn’t show in a 15/30 min period . Friday night , unfortunately we slept in heat! Saturday 09/14 Unfortunately. Maintenance was sent Saturday morning, he attempted to fix the AC , it worked for about 4 hours and completely stopped. I proceeded to the beach bar where they used the cheapest tequila present to make my drink (instant stomach ache) . After the beach we returned back to the room and we had a dinner reservation a few hours away. Follow this we left the room and proceeded to have dinner. Upon arriving to the Brazilian steak house a waitress named Cynthia asked that we wait 15 mins while she cleans off table (at this time she chose to sit only white or Hispanic couples ) she displayed pure discrimination, after waiting 15 mins patiently she rejected us and told
Every time we go to Sandos the experience is amazing ! All the crew is great and very helpful! Will be back one more time for sure, and the kids love the aquapark!!
Pools
Room was invaded with cockroaches. There was construction in the property next door, noisy.
Easy access to everything
Excelente over all would stay again
Really good place for vacation.
Family friendly resort, lots of things to do, good varieties of food. Overall a very nice resort for the family. One advise to visitors, bring your own drinking glass or tumbler unless you don't mind using their rewash or rerinse plastic glass😮
I had some much expectations for this hotel, I visited it 8 years ago and it was great. But it change so much. Food was not great, some fruit from the buffet were bad and not entertainment at all around the pool or the hotel in general, drinks were not good, staff were not that friendly as I am use to in others hotels in Mexico. It is big and beautiful but it needs a lot of work to make Sandos Playacar of what it was before. Elena from the Italian restaurant was amazing and Naileth from the Brazilian Restaurant were the best. The rest of staff were ok. The Beach was gorgeous and made my stay very much fun.
CONS: 1) Hard to book dining options ( can only use the web app, or do walk in at very early hours). There are no alternatives for booking, and the staff in person made it hard to book dining. 2) Poor check in service. No offer of a welcome beverage despite the long check in process. None of the amenities were described without me asking many questions. I had to remind the staff to give me a towel card. The room bracelet is a great idea, but it is a little gross knowing that you wear it 24/7 and cannot remove it to wash or rinse it.The web app has the only version of a map of the large property. It is hard to read and challenging to zoom in on the map.Hopefully the property can introduce a GPS version of the map in their app to help figure out directions better. 3) Poor shuttle service. Very vague signs as to the stop locations, and such crowded conditions that I realized early on, its best to walk around the property to get anywhere in a timely fashion 4) Poor lack of signage. Signs that were present were difficult to read or in odd spots that you could not find them. 5) Lack of enforcement of areas: Staff did not enforce "adult only zones" 6) Frequent Upselling PRO: 1) Good BellBoy service. They take your belongings and immediately give a receipt, whether it is when you first come to the lobby, or request a pickup prior to your check out. 2) Good food. Despite challenging to obtain restaurant reservations, the food was pretty good overall. 3) Wide water options

Best beach so far on Mexico east coast. Beautiful nature surrounding cozy haciendas. Friendly animals could be seen on different sites. Lots of family activities.
