Excellent stay. 3rd time back. Just the air conditioning might be a little better. Not a huge issue as windows open and there is little to no noise. Jimmy on reception really frightened our day aftwr a long day of travelling. Excellent location in Madrid, pick this hotel for your stay.

Great location next to metro stop and many landmarks. Room small but comfortable. Front desk staff is great. We did not request cleaning services each day but when we did it was not as attentive as we assumed they would be.

I had a great stay here! This place had friendly staff (knew English), a quality room for what I paid for, great-smelling bathroom soaps, and variety in their breakfast buffet. Compared to similar priced places I’ve stayed, they seem to put a little more effort into the details of enhancing the guest experience. I also loved the location. As a solo traveler I felt very safe and being in close proximity to the Royal Palace and Plaza Mayor was fantastic. I will definitely stay here again next time I visit Madrid.

Affordable location considering it’s Madrid. Walkable distance from many shopping places and restaurants. Metro station nearby. Good restaurants and bars nearby which were open late into the night.

They are in a location close to minutes from the most important areas.

The location is good but the place is to expensive for the condition and the service offered

Room Mate Mario is in an excellent location, just a short walk to attractions, shopping, restaurants, as well as transportation. The cab ride from the Puerta de Atocha train station took about fifteen minutes. It was raining on the day of the exit, and taxis were not readily available, so plan an earlier exit if the weather is bad. The hotel combines neighboring buildings and you’ll feel like you’re in an M. C. Escher drawing when first looking for your room. Getting to the first floor can be confusing. But you’ll get used to it. If you want to have a relaxing breakfast, go early. It can get hectic and the staff has a hard time keeping up with the volume. Plates, coffee cups, utensils and juice glasses are not always available at the same time. There is only one coffee machine, but there is one in your room if you want to get started early. Rooms vary in size. Our group booked three rooms. Street facing rooms have small balconies. Most rooms are small, but comfortable. I had a larger room with a view of an atrium. The sinks in our rooms were outside the restroom. Ironing boards are available on request. I would return to Room Mate Mario on a future visit to Madrid.

Eva at the front desk was simply amazing....helped get us a cab on the National Holiday by walking down the road to ensure one was available.

Great position, clean room, helpful staff

We enjoyed our stay here. The room and property was very clean and all the staff were friendly and provided excellent customer. I slipped on the sidewalk and fractured my ankle on our second day in Madrid. The front desk staff helped me find a hospital to go to and assisted us with many other things related to my injury. We would highly recommend this property. It is walking distance to many attractions, restaurants and shopping. We added the breakfast when we arrived and we were happy that we did. They offer a variety of hot and cold breakfast items, fresh fruit and espresso drinks. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and will stay here again when we return to Madrid. Muchos gracias!

Overall my stay here was excellent. Great location, about 3-5 minutes walk from the Opera Metro station. Most of the major attractions are walkable from the hotel. There is also a Día grocery store right by the hotel which I found really convenient.

Fantastic location walking distance to the major sites, shopping, and transit. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The hotel was nice, quiet and clean with comfortable beds and good water pressure. Would definitely stay again!

The hotel is in a great location; however the room didn’t have much light and no reading light. The shower was very awkward and you had to enter the shower from the hallway because the door doesn’t allow entrance from the bathroom. The breakfast was terrible and mostly inedible.

Deceptive photos - very disappointed

Sadly this hotel did not live up to expectations, or other Hotel.com's reviews. We booked this hotel as a treat for my sister's 40th and were really disappointed. The location is ideal but for €225 a night (not inc. breakfast!) we expected more. The reception area seems well kept and modern but the rooms have been neglected. We booked a triple room and I requested 3 single beds, however, we received a double bed and an uncomfortable camp bed as the third. I wasn't expecting much for the 'city view' but iron bars and the next buildings wall less than a metre away made the room dark, with little natural light. It felt more like we were in the basement than on the 1st floor. The bathroom was ok but everything was very tired and needed a refresh. Whilst I would stay in a similar area again, I wouldn't choose Room Mate Mario.

It had windows but the neighbouring building was 4 feet away, no outside light. The rooms were ok, but several small broken parts, tiles, lights etc.

Beautiful hotel with clean room. Perfect location with lots of restaurants nearby. Friendly staff and great breakfast. Highly recommended.

Really cute boutique hotel. Front staff was very friendly and helpful. The room/bathroom were a bit small, but we were only there for one night so it was doable. Not sure I would recommend if you are staying for more than a couple of nights due to size

Excelent location near to la gran via

I’ve stayed at this location before and it’s nicely located for walking around, it’s close to the busy areas but it isn’t busy itself. The hotel feels very dark once you enter the lobby as it’s decorated mainly in black, the corridors are lighter as they’re painted white. My only issue with my room was the bathroom, it’s fine if you’re a couple but if friends are sharing it’s not very convenient, the wash basin is on the opposite sid wig the room, there’s only a very slim glass door that closes of the shower and toilet from the room, it doesn’t give much privacy, also when using the shower water gets all over the floor. Beyond this my stay was fine, I wouldn’t mind staying here again as the rooms I’ve used so far have balcony’s which is usually a preference of mine when staying in Madrid.

Amazing location, incredible helpful staff

The hotel location is incredible close to everything then yet at a quiet street. Besides the hotel the staff is incredible friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

We chose this hotel for the location - close to the Opera metro station, close to the royal palace, and 10 min from Grand via (it was easy to put the shopping at the hotel to make room in our hands for more) the room was nice and clean the staff was great - we got a wecome note, and a goodbye note (we love it) some of the recomandations they made were excelent, they were always nice and welcoming

Love this location! So wonderful being by Plaza de Isabel II, the opera, and the National Palace. Great restaurants right nearby, and the hotel staff was SO wonderful, helped us buy tickets when the app wouldn't work on my US cellphone, great advice on walking areas and places to go, and also huge compliments for having the courtesy water jars in the lobby. We so appreciated coming back after a long - and it was hot - day and have nice cool water available in the lobby. Very nice amenity to have! Will definitely recommend this hotel to friends, and would stay there again.

Beautiful room. Sadly, the air conditioner is centralized so it is either on full blast or not at all. Staff was wonderful. Our room had nice little balconies looking over the charming street. But if you are sensitive to noise, get a room, facing inward. The street is a sound tunnel.

Pricey for what you get.

The hotel location is awesome, near the main attractions. There was a nice small bottle of wine and chocolates waiting for us in our room which was lovely. Our room was refurbished but there was black mould in the tiles joints and around the bath. They lacked important things in the continental breakfast such as yogurt.

Good location, but not so good room

The hotel is in a great location and the aesthetics are nice, but there are definitely some quirks about this place (our room) we were not fans of. - The carpet is pretty cheap. It reminded me of the carpet I had in my college apartment, which was pretty bad. No padding, just basically thin carpet on top of concrete. - There are no black out curtains. I don’t know any hotels nowadays that do not have blackout curtains, so that was a surprise. - The shower and toilet are in a separate room which is fine, but the standing shower is on a step-up level. It’s basically a walk-in with a half glass partition and no door, which means when you shower, even with the lowest water pressure, it completely floods the area. You could see the water damage at the bottom of the door where this has happened repeatedly. We used three towels to clean up all the water so we weren’t stepping in water whenever we used the toilet. - The walls aren’t super thin, but thin enough to hear our neighbors talking when I turned off my white noise app. - The TV is in the middle of the room above the desk. We get that the room is not the biggest, but it would’ve made more sense to have the TV along the wall by the bed so you can at least view it from the bed not limiting you to have to sit at a desk in a cheap plastic chair.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was very clean and the breakfasts were tasty with many options.

The best part was the front desk woman that help at every turn and was so nice. I seen here accommodate everyone at this hotel. Would definitely comeback

Good choice

We only stayed one night on the last day of our vacation. We arrived early but they were kind to keep our luggages until our check in time and we explore a little bit the city. They have continental breakfast for additional charge but is very affordable and have a good variety of choices. It’s close to the train station.

Im confused as to why this is a 2* hotel, maybe to do with facilities because i would certainly rate it a big 4* Location was perfect for me, easy to visit all the sights. Staff extremely welcoming and friendly. Room had everything needed toiletries, fully stocked mini bar and including a personalised welcome message and gift which i though was a lovely touch. Nice breakfast and room service food was available if required. Had a brilliant stay and would certainly return and recommend

The staff was extremely helpful and kind. I loved the area as it was pretty close to the center of Madrid. The beds are comfy and the rooms are nice. The breakfast is awful in every way and there is no variety. Can hear a bit of the rooms next door.

We loved staying at Roo Mate Mario though the area can get noisy. The garbage pickup at 1:30am and some crazy dude screaming at night made sleeping hard. Had we known that we would have asked for an interior room. The beds are a little tired and the breakfast is delicious. Would definitely recommend this place as the location is perfect.

Great location and amazing staff

We stayed 5 days at Room Mate Mario and were very happy with the location and the staff. Eva checked us in and she was warm and fun and the hotel had little things they did like leaving candy at wine the first night, a package with the 12 grapes for new year for both of us and chocolates on the last night. It is the little details. We didn't have breakfast there but appreciated the hotel location and how quiet it was despite being at the core of it all. Definitively worth a stay, you also get to pick what metro works best for you but really, you can walk everywhere you may want to see in Madrid. A great find.

We have stayed at Roommate Mario many times, and it is excellent every time we return. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff is excellent. The location is very convenient -- close to Sol and Plaza Mayor and transportation to other parts of Madrid.
