Unique property in an excellent position for visiting Kassel and the surrounding areas

A quirky hotel with friendly staff

Although the mattress was very thin, i had a reasonably comfortable stay. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Ate a few good meals and breakfast was varied. Overall, a good experience

Very nice hotel

Overall lovely hotel in a historical building. Rooms were warm despite only 18c outside in May and definitely needed the fan supplied. A residents bar would be nice on nights when weddings / functions happen in the hotels only bar…

A great hotel in a good location.

My favourite hotel in Kassel. The room was clean with a nice bathroom. The duvet was the standard single on a double bed. Not the most comfortable for me. The restaurant was excellent for breakfast and evening meals.

This is the second stay and it was every bit as pleasurable as the first time. It's a nice alternative to chain hotels. It's quirky but that is what you should expect with a boutique hotel. Not good for people who need special assistance.

A mid evil Abby converted to a hotel. Our three room suite was quite large and beautifully furnished. The staff are friendly and helpful. Located next to a river and a huge park, there’s both serenity and activity easily available. I think the hotel is in a ideal location when visiting Kassel.

It is unique

Does not have Air Conditioning

I was concerned about hot weather so I called the hotel to confirm that they had AC and was told that they did, but they don't. When we checked in we were told it was probably a language miscommunication. The hotel is charming and the weather was relatively cool but even within our own fan it was hot. Rooms facing the courtyard may be cooler with less traffic noise so that you can keep the window open. The room had no minibar/refrigerator, kettle or coffee makings.

Good Choice in Kassel

Would stay there again. Room was set up as single, but quickly corrected. Room size average with luggage. Design and venue are great. Location to city was good, immediately next to city center.

Great stay!

Renthof Stay

The hotel is beautiful and the location is great. Our room was very small for the price with very little storage for clothes. We had no hot water in our room after the first night. The hotel covered our breakfasts (which were excellent!!) only with no discount on the room. Midway through the 3rd day, they offered to allow us to change rooms or use the shower in another room. They also had a service person come, who was not able to fix the problem. The clerk who checked us out was very unfriendly.

Great location close to all Kassel Documenta venues and the river walk. The room has charm of an old building, but then it's naturally dark. Not having a coffee machine is acceptable since you can get it in the common area, but wish they had a refrigerator. Would stay again when in Kassel.

The hotel is very lovely and the rooms are too notch. It is full of character with the renovation having been done in a very respectful to it's heritage way. We really liked the bar staff and their suggestions for local/regional alcohols. What was a little amiss was the staff for the morning breakfasts. They were not quite so attentive in refilling or replenishing the food and drinks on the buffet. But the food was good!

Beautiful and super friendly staff

The property was gorgeously historic. We opted for the slightly larger rooms and were thrilled with the extra space. Breakfast was generous and staff friendly and helpful. The hotel's restaurant offered a gourmet experience at modest prices. The atmosphere made this a fantastic way to enjoy Europe. Hotel is close to downtown shopping area and there was a short walk along the river to get to the Orangerie with its extensive parks and a lovely playground. A crib was provided for our use.

Quaint Boutique Hotel

This hotel was amazingly picturesque from the inside. What used to be a monastery was transformed into a unique boutique hotel where the original timber beams decorated the interior. It was clear that the engineers and architects took careful steps in order to preserve what was left and still repurpose the building for commercial use. As for our experience, our room was cozy and welcoming. The beams made an artful contrast of dark timber against lighter paint schemes of cream, beige, and white. The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. In terms of service, we enjoyed our welcome save for a few items of note. If you need to park long term, the front lot is only for 3 hours. You'll need to ask them how to get to the parking lot (15 euros a day). Even though it's still just around the corner, less than a minute drive away, it's easy to miss that turn. There is an intercom box you need to ring. Also, even though we reserved our room for 2 adults and 1 child, we had to ask for bedding for the sofa on the loft. Third, when we got there, their region recently became 2G+ and the receptionist told us our 9-year old son had to test (5 euros). Even though he was fully vaccinated (more than 3 weeks after his second dose), she still insisted that he needed to test. We still complied but we think his age does not fall under the same restrictions as adults, based on Germany's 2G+ measures. Overall, it was still a pleasant stay and we highly recommend it.

Need bigger desks

The rooms are varied and do not all have proper sized work spaces for business travellers. It would have been nice to have had a room where I was able to complete work from without needing to use the bed as a makeshift desk.

excellent hotel

Lovely hotel, excellent location, very central, close to the city centre and also to the river and a large park. Food in the restaurant was nice, breakfast had hot and cold options. The rooms are nicely decorated and have a big decent shower, beds are comfortable but the room was a little hot.

Beautiful property. Clean hotel and room. Parking available in a garage behind the hotel, which of course is not free. My particular room overlooked the hotel courtyard, where breakfast is served and where their restaurant is located. This made my stay somewhat less pleasant, as to have the windows open (or even just the curtains) you invite people in the courtyard to see you as you walk around in your room, so be careful what you wear, if anything! Additionally, even though the restaurant closes at 10PM, the Staff apparently likes to hang out and smoke in the courtyard area, which was awful because the smoke then drifted into my room (I had to have the windows open because there is no AC and it was hot in the middle of August) and their noise interrupted my sleep in a room that's otherwise quiet!!! The Staff did provide a fan upon request, which did help against the heat. Location of the hotel is good - short distance walk to the city center and just minutes to numerous restaurants and the lovely parks in the area. Overall good choice. Just make sure to ask for a room that doesn't overlook the courtyard...

It‘s a very nice place, centrally located with some critical service issues.

Property and location are great ... a little noisy from street traffic ... only issue was reservation was missing but they took care of us.

No tooth brushes, no slippers, no bath robes. I do like the atmosphere, though hope they prepare amenities at least ordinary business hotel level.

Such a beautiful reconstruction; tasteful and completely balanced between the antique elements of the building and modern rooms. Great staff and delightful restaurant. Excellent location and parking was pretty good.

Good design Hotel

I was told this is the best address in Kassel to stay in the city center and my experience was good, the building is really old with lots of history but of course renovated. the people at the reception were very friendly and fast , the have an excellent resturant which is however a bit more expensive but the qulaity is good. breakfast was also very fresh and i assume mainly from local suppliers, two dow sides, Hotel Parking places are limited so you might need to park near by and pay extra. My room was expensive for such a small city (130 euros with breakfast)

Charming Hotel with Fantastic Staff

Wonderful old historic building carefully renovated to preserve charming details but with all modern conveniences. Staff was very friendly, helpful, and accommodating in every way. We had a delicious dinner in the open-air courtyard restaurant; the food was hearty and beautifully presented. Be sure not to miss breakfast— an amazing spread, from eggs and meats to fresh breads and pastries. So sorry we had only one night in Kassel—would love to return someday!

Excellent location and food. The hotel was central and close to everything! The hotel was an old monastery and upgraded with a great mix of old and new...Great courtyard to relax in!

One of the coolest hotels ever

This place is truly an amazing hotel. In a 700 year old building, completely renovated to be modern and plush. Food was amazing. I didn't find the dungeon but I bet there is one

Beauty and the design fails...

The Renthof has recently been seriously refurbished and though a lot of care and great design ideas went into the venture - some basic fails put a damper on the experience. It started at the door. Where other rooms had big metal numbers - ours was printed on an A4 paper, giving a sense of an incomplete job. Inside the room there was no proper mirror and the rain shower - supposedly suggesting luxury and comfort - flooded the room due to bad construction, and there was only my bare hands to scoop up the water. The raw, stone walls indicate privacy and seclusion but in fact I heard every word from the neighbour's TV - at 6am. The beautiful bar with its comfy chairs signals exclusivity but just as I sat down with my drink the absentminded bar staff cleared the table next to me puffing polish in my face, forcing me to change seats. From this position I had to endure the chatting and squarks of on-and-off duty around the bar. It's completely fine for young staff to enjoy themselves after a long shift but it totally killed to intended tranquil atmosphere. Obviously the acoustics of the bar can't really handle this kind of crowd and preserve the intended comfy library feel. It makes me sad to write this, as the Renthof can potentially provide magic - but I fear the designer forgot some basic requirements of a hotel in the process.

The hotel was newly renovated, v new and comfortable ( though water splashes from shower wet the bathroom floor . Excellent location to main venues in Documenta 14

Excellent choice for Documenta

We were in Kassel for the Documenta. The hotel is well located for the various Documents sites, we walked. The hotel itself is in an old building, not a common sight in Kassel (which was heavily bombed in the war). The rooms are nice. The WiFi is fast and free. The best part is the courtyard restaurant, where we had breakfast and dinner twice (we had thought we would explore different restaurants nearby but there was little reason to do so). The food for dinner was excellent, with an interesting wine list. Highly recommended for Documenta, or any other stay in Kassel.

Nice remodeled hotel in historic building

Beautifully remodeled / restored building in the center of town, great location. However, no air conditioning in the rooms, rooms overlooking patio are very noisy at evenings and nights from busy restaurant going at the ground level.

The room is stylish and comfortable. The service is nice, and the location is quite convenient too.

Nice atmosphere, but unfinished and loud

First the good things: the hotel looks really great,a nicely renovated 13th century building and it has a great location to visit Documenta. Unfortunately we had several problems that made our stay not so pleasant. First of all our room was not finished when we arrived, it had no furniture, except a small table and a metal wardrobe without walls. Also the room was very loud during the night even with closed windows. We were at the 2nd floor and our windows were looking to the courtyard where partying was going on until 2-3AM and the windows were not properly sound proofed. The service was fine, except that in the second morning we wanted to book a table at the restaurant for the evening and it was booked out (thanks to the Documenta). I naively expected that house as a house guest we could get a table.

Un cadre accueillant et reposant à Kassel

Une chambre très agréable équipée d’un bon lit double et d’une douche en marbre blanc italien… cela vous laisse un aperçu de l’ambiance classée de ce bâtiment reconstruit dans les années 50, une ancienne église qui date du 13ième siècle je crois. On y trouve un bon restaurant aussi et un bar. En ce qui concerne la TV, ce n’est pas adapté à un public Français.

Hervorragend Die 15€ Parkgebühr finde ich etwas teuer. Alternativen gibt es leider keine

Supermysigt hotell älskade byggnaden och att man har bevarat det så fint. Rummen är lite kala, hade uppskattat ett kylskåp med lite dryck eller iallafall en flaska vatten. Även en naturlig plats att ställa skor och även ett skohorn mm Maten och frukosten var väl ingen höjdare, väldigt mycket bränt allt från bacon stekt till kolbitar till croissanter som gått för länge i ugnen. Som sagt ett riktigt fin byggnad, sköna sängar men det fattas en del

Rezeption, Bar, Aufenthaltsräume hervorragend. Restaurant außergewöhnlich. Einzelzimmer klein aber sinnvoll und angenehm aufgeteilt. Ich komme wieder !!

Sehr schönes Hotel, sehr gutes Frühstück, haben uns rundum wohl gefühlt. Kleine Kritik gibt es dennoch, dass Personal am ersten Tag beim Frühstück war sehr unmotiviert und unaufmerksam. Abends und Sonntag war der Service deutlich besser

Väldigt fint hotell inrymt i ett gammalt kloster, jättefin design . Fin bar och väldigt god mat i en härlig meny. Uppgraderad till svit 207 som var bland de finaste man bott i. Rekommenderas!

Spartansk værelse

Simpelt værelse( på trods af superior room) under skråloft uden minibar, med elendige hovedpuder der var tunge, som beton! Fint badeværelse. Spartansk morgenmadsbuffet, uden andet frugt end tern af æble og pære. Smuk idyllisk bygning og hyggelige opholdsrum.

Das Thema des Hotels und der Stil der Innenarchitektur waren unvergesslich, das Bett war sehr bequem.

Wir hatten ein Doppelzimmer Superior gebucht. Hotel und Zimmer sind sehr stilvoll eingerichtet. Es gibt ein sehr gutes Frühstücksbüffet. Unser Parkplatz war direkt vor dem Hotel, was sehr praktisch für uns war. Einen Ausflug zu den Wasserspielen im Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe vom Herkules bis zum Schloss können wir empfehlen. (Mittwoch oder Sonntag) Hinweis: Bergpark App nutzen.

Stylish and cozy hotel. I was fortunate to have my room upgraded, due to a private event being held that day. The receptionist that checked me in was very sweet and helpful. Will definitely stay here again if I come by Kassel in the future!

Skønt hotel. Klar anbefaling.

Mooie accommodatie en een mooie kamer. Let wel op dat het er warm kan worden aangezien ze in het monumentale pand, begrijpelijk, geen airco mogen inbouwen. Verder een goed ontbijt met een prachtige zitplek in het binnenhof. In de buurt is er ook veel te zien!

Parkering og alt for varmt værelse

Efter masser af problemer med parkering fik vi et virkelig pænt værelse, som vi havde bestilt. Problemet var blot at der ingen luft var, vinduerne kunne ikke åbnes, så der var vel 30 grader i rummet. der var nogle små almindelige blæser anbragt, men de kunne ikke skabe luft i det store fine rum. Så vi vil aldrig mere bo i disse værelser. Vi har ellers besøgt hotellet flere gange, og været super tilfredse med værelserne tidligere.

Anderledes og godt

Har været her een gang før, hvor vi havde et bedre værelse, men mig der ikke havde forstået garderingerne. Vi havde et comfortværelse, som var ret lille - en seng og et badeværelse - det var det. Vil man have en stol og et skrivebord, så skal man bestille et premium værelse. Rar info, hvis man skal være der flere dage. Fantastisk restaurant og udeomgivelser.

Jättefint rum och hotellet är så snyggt! Men receptionistan fnös åt mig när jag bad om svart kaffe till frukosten… En kaffe apparat fanns med massor av olika sorter, men inte svart kaffe. Mycket härlig ute gård.

Smakfullt hotell i en by vi ikke hadde hørt om

Flott hotell i gammelt slott stil med passende innredning, sentralt, rolige farger innvendig. Men ganske stive priser i både bar og café. Vi kjøpte ikke frokost, men det så hyggelig ut. God såpe på badet, deilig sengetøy. Kassel er en by med store parker, mye kunst og installasjoner, og blant annet museum for Brødrene Grimms formidable innsats for den tyske ordbok (eventyrene nevnes)

Ein schönes Hotel in einem alten Bauwerk integriert, mit einer einzigartigen Einrichtung zum Wohlfühlen und das mitten in Kassel. Der Parkraum ist begrenzt und das Frühstück könnte optimiert werden.

Wunderschönes Hotel mit viel Liebe zum Detail. Perfekt für Ausflüge in die Innenstadt und zu den Ausstellungen, da zu Fuß gut zu erreichen. Sicherlich ein Traum im Sommer, da direkt am Fluss gelegen. Wir kommen bei schönerem Wetter wieder!

Der Renthof "atmet Geschichte". Die Lage Nähe Stadtzentrum und Fulda ist ideal. Das Gebäude und die Zimmer sind liebevoll restauriert und stilsicher eingerichtet. Die Mitarbeiter waren sehr zuvorkommend, das Essen im Restaurant ausgezeichnet. Wir kommen wieder.

The hotel offered a taste of history and nature.

Das Hotel hat mitten in der Stadt seinen ganz eigenen Charme und ist sehr schön renoviert. Die Ausstattung und das Ambiente sind sehr schön, wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend Man kann zur Markthalle laufen und weitere Einkaufsmöglichkeiten sind zu Fuß erreichbar.

Zentral gelegen. Historisches Gebäude. Kleine geschmackvolle Zimmer, allerdings mit sparsamer Ausstattung. Nette Bar. Ordentliches Frühstücksbüffet. Freundlicher Service.
