The room was clean and bright and the bathroom was in good working order. There was lots of room to store clothes. The bed was comfortable. The staff was friendly but not always helpful for someone from out of town. The hallway was very noisy until late at night and every sound in the hall could be heard. No ice. No alarm clock. No restaurant services. Pillows not very comfortable.Cleaning staff started early and very loud and noisy. Difficult to get a good rest. Will not return.
The building was clean.
Extremley clean. The beds and pillows were very comfy. Had a great sleep
The only reason it’s not getting an absolutely terrible rating is that the staff seemed helpful in trying to help out. The environmental concern is the AC is much too cold, wasting energy. People are yelling at all hours of the night in the halls and have no regard for others. Sure it’s a dorm, but there are rules and guests are adults. Have some consideration for others beyond yourself wish self. You get what you pay for but dorms aren’t supposed to be this expensive!! It’s ridiculous.
The location was excellent as we had booked a tour at the Kingston Penitentiary. I had only seen the diagram of the room layout and when we arrived the rooms were so much smaller than I had expected. No big deal. It suited our needs just fine. The people at check in were super friendly and very helpful. The hallways echoed a lot and it was rather noisy as we were right next to the elevators. No big deal. Although, what was rather annoying was one of the cleaning staff was walking down the hallway actually yelling - "hello" at 8:00 in the morning - I looked out of my door to see what she wanted and she apologized and said she was looking for other staff members. And a second staff member was yelling down the hallway minutes later....A bit discourteous and unthoughtful to those that may have been sleeping in. There was lots of parking available in and around the residence. We were a bit confused by the large parking lot up Albert street as we weren't sure if we should park underground or not. But we ended up parking on a side street next to the residence and getting up in the morning to put money in the meter at 8:00 am. Great option for accomodations if you are on a budget and perhaps want a campus experience! Beds were fairly comfortable. No complaints.
It was unique staying in a Dorm Room. It was an inconvenience to park offsite for free parking.
Great location but uncomfortable & dirty
In general the rooms were uncomfortable and dirty but the bathroom, especially the shower was extremily dirty, we put our crocs on to shower.
Correct mais petite salle de bain
Équipe très serviable et gentille. Les chambres sont bonnes mais la salle de bain très petite. L’établissement dispose de cuisine que l’on peut utiliser
Great spot a block from the lake front park and 15 minute walk (I walk fast) from down town. Clean and comfortable and staff were really friendly and helpful. It is a university dorm, so austere. The parking is 2 blocks away and one block is a construction zone, so very isolated late at night.
Only thing is close to the water but no food or coffee place even close by.
Tv was broken Too much noise Cleaning staff we talking outside our rooms at 8am getting organized.
Positive experience. Clean, simple.
Staff is very friendly
We were a last minute replacement for a hockey tournament and prices elsewhere were crazy. The booking was 2 dorm rooms with a connected bathroom which was perfect as I was travelling with my daughter and her friend. Mattresses weren't the greatest but comfortable enough. Rooms were basic but clean. Overall good value for money for Kingston in the summer.
The property was clean and fairly centrally located. What I didnt like was how I could hear absolutely everything clearly in the hallway. People were having conversations around midnight which woke me up. The might want to consider a bit of soundproofing
Only issue was the bed. Was not a regular Queen bed. My husband and I slept in seperate sides of the room.
food was not close
I appreciate the friendliness of the welcome, the cleanliness of the room and the pleasant location close to the water's edge and downtown Kingston. It is easy to find if you have a map...just two turns off the highway when coming from the west. It is very quiet at night, has a comfortable mattress and warm duvet to counter the air-conditioning. The two room with adjoining bathroom offers privacy, yet you are close to the children, perhaps, on the other side of the bathroom....reassuring for them if they are little. I couldn't be happier with the accommodation and affordable price.
It’s not at all sound proof so if people on your floor are being loud, regardless of where on the floor they are, you will hear it
Great place.
Great location!!!!
The Queen's residence is the perfect place to stay while visiting Kingston because it's walking distance to downtown and it's reasonably priced. The reception staff is also very welcoming, and the room(s) have everything that one needs during a stay (minus personal toiletries- that you need to bring yourself). Parking is also convenient.
Nice location.there was a shared rest room with refrigerator, stove and microwave to cook and some dining tables to have dinner. The room is clean and the bed is comfortable. Bathroom is bit small but enough for us. We had a good stay.
You get what you pay for
I didn't like the water tap in the bathroom. An unadjustable Moen tap that only sprayed warm water. Had to drink warm water! There was a room fridge but no access to a microwave or kettle. An electric vehicle battery charger was close by though.
I really liked the ease of parking the car across from the building. I was impressed by the security precautions and the attention to COVID rules. It was an adventure trying to get the elevator to operate (room key needed) but that was just extra security so fine with me. I can't think of a thing I didn't expect or like. It is after all a residence not a five star hotel as the price reflects quite nicely. Well done!
The staff are very friendly and helpful. The location is very convenient - 1 minute walk to the lakeshore.
Good Basic Accommodation in a Great Location
Basic, but clean accommodation. Adjoining rooms with shared bathroom worked well for us as a family. Mattresses weren’t the comfiest, but OK. Check in/out very easy. Parking quite expensive. Easy walking distance into town and lovely location just near the lakeshore. Excellent value for money overall.
It is a student residence - clean and basic. It was perfect for a quick trip through Kingston.
The location is excellent, very close to good restaurants and steps from the lake! The space is a student residents with two rooms that have double bed and a bathroom in the middle. The only disappointing part of the trip was the lack of cleanliness, the floors were visibly dirty. All in all an okay experience for the price and location.
great location and staff
Hope to check in a couple of hours earlier, could not be done. The staff were friendly and helped us to hold the luggage’s. Location is great. As university student room, it was fine, but I would not recommend using this as a hotel type since the parking is not convenient, very noisy at night and no breakfast. Our bathroom ceiling has spike web although the rest room seemed to be clean enough.
The location was excellent! Very close to the beautiful lake for a walk. Great accommodation overall!
Budget friendly stay. The location was excellent! Clean and very efficient service.
Ok for a night
it is a good place to stop for a night and continue your trip
Excellent stay, quiet, clean and nice waterfront walk
Clean and comfortable to spend the night. Price is right and location is very good, cllose to the lake.
Simple but great accommodation for a family on a road trip. Perfect place to rest, do laundry, and get ready for the next stop.
The check in girl didnot want to answer parking questions and let me to figure out by myself.
The room was fine for a cheap overnight stay. The bed was not comfortable and there was no real seating in the room. There was hallway noise at night...not that things were out if control. ..it's a dorm so walls are thin. They had coffee set up in the morning, which was nice.
Nice dorm! I really hope I can get into David C Smith House or the Brant House!
Good quality Uni Residence
This was perfect for us as we were visiting Queen’s for summer orientation. My son and I shared a room and had a separate bed area/room with the joining bathroom. We knew we were staying in student residence so brought soap/ shampoo etc. The room was very clean. Beds were comfortable enough. AC was great. Bathroom quite small but fine for what we needed. They had hand soap and towels provided. There was also a mini fridge. Only down side was the noise. The rooms and corridors have very nice laminate flooring but you hear everything that is happening in the hall. We heard entire conversation (a little tmi lol!!) from a group of guys. Overall great value and perfect for visiting the Uni or the town. Very close to lake and nice path for a stroll.
well situated to our needs and very well priced!! Very convenient!!
Clean rooms and initial impression good. However too expensive for a student dormitory, with below average beds and water pressure. (Shower pressure good). Pillows terrible. Hallway noise late into the evening and early into the morning.
Great location walk to lake & downtown from dorm in minutes.
Fantastic in all ways!
it was a great alternative to a hotel. a wonderful facility, extremely clean and comfortable. Also very much appreciated the complimentary coffee/tea as well as access to computers in the main lobby. the location is a nice walk to downtown. i would definately stay again and recommend it to friends.
Good value, good location
Any prior concerns we had about staying in a University hostel were unjustified. The rooms and bathroom were clean and a good size, the front desk staff were helpful, the location was good (walking or bus access to key locations around Kingston), and it was good value for money.
Fine , name didn’t show up on check in! Staff was helpful
Staff too loud in front of our door at 6am!! There is no phone in room to call front desk.
Great location, close to the university, the lake, and other attractions. Complimentary coffee and tea in the morning and sparkling water all day. A common area kitchen is also a grat convenience. Very clean.
Very convenient for events at Queen’s. A bit noisy though bring ear plugs
Location is wonderful, and very helpful. There is parking on the street which is also good. The weirdest thing was no shampoo for a shower.
Mediocre
Location was great, walkable distance to the downtown area and right near the water. We weren't expecting anything extravagant because we knew the rooms were student dorms. Unfortunately the rooms were not cleaned very well. There was hair found all over the floor, crumbs in the fridge, and visible mould in the bathroom. The rooms were on the smaller side, but okay for a night or two (and at least you get two rooms, which helps with the space issue).
The property provides an economical, clean, comfortable and conveniently located option to hotels in Kingston.
Right inside the Queen campus, two bedroom sharing one full bathroom, very convenient for family .
Good price for suites but bed is not very comfortable and no soap and shampoo
Very Good
The check-in was smooth and front desk staff was friendly and helpful. But there was noise (loud) of vehicles from the street in the early morning. I stayed on the 5th floor.
Liked the location didnt like the room. Very small bed is not comfortable not suited for staying more than one night
Great University residence...but it’s a University residence. “Quiet” is not the focus here. Sound echos throughout the floor and doors opening/closing well into the night.
Cable TV would have been ice but otherwise the room was everything I needed.
Very clean 😃great price but we could hear everything in the hall
Small but nice clean rooms; great location in the downtown
nice staff. clean and affordable but can hear every hallway sound and the beds are torture
Great place To sleep only . Very small room, shared question.
Queen's Dorm Room
I understand that this is a dorm room so A/C would not be feasible but having a fan in the room at least would have helped to have some sort of air circulation in the room. Front desk staff are very friendly. This is a great place to stay especially if you have a kid going to Queen's as was our case. We got to tour around the campus and help our son of get a feel of what to expect for his 1 year in a couple of weeks.
The stay was nice, but there was a lot of noise in the night and the beds were not comfortable !!!
Remember, it IS a dorm room!
As we toured Canada as a family, I thought a stay at the Queen's University could be a fun stop. It was very clean but (as other reviews mentioned) it is a dorm room. Plenty of space in the room but the bathrooms were very school-like (small shower, loud institutional flushing toilet, sink only had one temp with push-on timed faucet). You could also hear others in the hallway very well. No ice machine but fridge in the room.
Relatively expensive comparing to the facilitesthey provided.
everything is great.except thay the bed is double size
A modern residence experience
Pretty much what we expected, as Queen's alumni, we knew what we were getting into. The check-in was straightforward and rooms were reasonable for the price. The mattresses were thin, floors could have used a sweep, and walls were thin, but no major complaints otherwise. We had two rooms in Brant House, one with a courtyard view and another with a great Lake view. We would stay again.
It was a great stay. Front desk staff helpful and friendly. Clean room and lovely view of the lake from the kitchen. It was quiet even though it seemed busy. In the morning got a free coffee and walked to a bench on the water. A great and fun place to stay.
Great location in Kingston right on the water. Room was clean. Beds are comfortable. The free parking is about a 5 minute walk up the road. Only a couple of call outs. The rooms are noisy from people in the hall & the water limiter on the tap in the bathroom is a bit annoying. But staying at David C Smith House is a good option in Kingston & I recommend it.
Great location, affordable, clean and spacious rooms. It's a university residence room not a luxury hotel, so it doesn't have a ton of amenities, but there is laundry, complimentary coffee at the front desk each morning, a mini-fridge in the room and a full kitchen just down the hall. Exactly what I expected and was looking for. Staff was friendly and helpful. Thanks Queen's!
Checkin was smooth and the staff pleasant. Bed was noisy and uncomfortable. Bathroom had a towel, but that was all. No soap, shampoo etc. Did not sleep well and the shower in the morning was anything but refreshing. I would not recommend this place for business travelers.
Our experience at the David C Smith house was fantastic. We were 7 girls on a reunion/bachelorette weekend, and booked two rooms. Most of us attended Queen’s and I had researched this residence as a lower-cost option for the weekend. It was also conveniently located right by the lake, on Queen’s campus. First of all, the front desk staff was friendly and helpful. Checking in was seamless. The rooms were far better than expected - each room was actually two separate rooms with separate amenities, joined by a bathroom in the middle. This was convenient as well as allowed for privacy. The rooms were in good condition and clean. We requested more soap and received it immediately. The beds were extremely comfortable and clean. Noise level was low. Finally, it was very convenient for our group to have a common space where we could all sit around the table and chat or play games. The free coffee and sparkling water were a very welcome addition! Overall, we had a wonderful time. We’re contemplating booking another Kingston reunion next summer and this accommodation will be top of our list.
Adjoining dorm rooms with shared bathroom
Basic, but clean, accommodation on campus at Queens' university. The configuration consists of two small dorm rooms joined through a shared bathroom. The furniture is sparse and basic, but acceptable in terms of comfort. Rooms have a small fridge but no conveniences such as coffee maker, etc. There are no cafes or restaurants nearby; the closest is a 20 mins walk away. Location is convenient for university business but little else. Not appropriate for couples (beds are too small).
Queens residence
New, clean building. Two dorm rooms with adjoining bathroom. Clean and adequate accomodation however, not very sound proof. Was quiet after midnight.
Residence Room in good location
Clean and reasonably priced. Food and tourist sights nearby.
Exactly what I expected
Our overnight stay at David c. Smith House was good. Residence was clean, staff were helpful and good wifi. Price was fantastic for downtown Kingston.
Very good Staff!
Thank you for accommodating with some troubles we had with some parcels we had to recive at the Hotel.
Loved it
We came for the long weekend. Staff were very friendly and helpful. It was easy to get to from the bus station. Very clean and great amenities like wifi, free coffee, water (still and sparkling) and one computer in the lobby. I really appreciate having a fridge in the room.
Good location, but real plastic feel.
Great location on Queens U campus. Close to downtown Kingston. Real dorm feel though! The bed was really high of the floor, and the mattress/pillows were thin and plastic. Side note: has to have been the thinnest toilet paper I have encountered in a “hotel”.
Good experience
We stayed there only one night and it was ok, the rooms were small the hotel was very crowded and only one elevator was working
It was an easy and economical place to stay. However, the floor is pretty dirty. If you are looking for a simple and cheap place to spend a night, it works.
Beautiful Campus and facilities.
Very affordable place to crash and the facilities were very clean and safe.
Yay Queen's!!!
Absolutely loved the accommodations... so much nicer than what I remember residence being.
Excellent travelling, and wonderfull hotel accommodation.
It's a residence, so rooms are not typical hotel rooms. The two double beds are actually in separate rooms, for example, with adjoining bathroom. It was clean and comfortable, though, so a nice stay and good value. Plus, convenient for us as we were attending a function on campus the next day. Unlike hotels, the residence has wi-fi secured with WPA2 (hotels in my experience are always unsecured wi-fi). So, if you're security conscious, that's a bonus.
Tranquil stay near the city centre
It was a nice and tranquil stay in this Queen's accommodation. Very good service provided by lovely staff. It is located in a very convenient location for easy exploration of the city.
VERY POOR ACCOMMODATION
Very uncomfortable! No one over 50 should stay here. The beds are 4 feet high. There is no cafe on site. Food cannot be delivered to rooms. There is no coffee or toiletries or telephone or blanket. Bed is sagging. Pillows are excellent! Cleaning only every other day! Long walk to elevator and corridors for a person with a bad back. This is a dorm but if they wish to use it for hotel accommodation in the summer they need to provide better amenities, facilities and comfort. The staff and custodians are helpful but my check in was a disaster. They lost my reservation and it took 2 hours to process a new one. No concierge on site. Custodians have to be called in from campus to assist with luggage. No proper signs. Very stark and unpleasant ambience. I had a very BAD experience.
a trolley or cart might have been helpful to get luggage to the rooms but otherwise it was quiet, clean and the room was bright and very nice considering it is a dorm room 8 months of the year.
Great Stay
Located on the Queens University campus. About a 30 minute walk to downtown (or a 10 minute drive). Few food options very close, but a lot of places downtown. The rooms were fine and the bed comfortable. The is little soundproofing between the rooms and the hall and the rooms and the bathroom though, so if you are a lights sleeper I may suggest earplugs. Parking is free on Sundays. Otherwise you will be paying at a meter, or $15 / days for a parking lot. Overall, I think the price is a little high for what you get.
This is a modern student dorm and a great location for campus events. It's good value and the staff are wonderful. The bed is high off of the floor so difficult for easy in and out if you have older family members with you. The mattress is adequate for a dorm. You should definitely know the people in the adjoining suite as you share one bathroom. It was fine for our one night and needs.
We enjoy staying in participating colleges and universities that open up like this in the summer. It's such a good idea and it's fun for us older folks. This time, we had a good laugh at me buying a two-step ladder so I could climb up into those high beds! lol [I know that I could have just bought a step-stool, but needed a two-step at home anyway.]
Clean, new looking, comfortable, great view of the water, attractive campus grounds, friendly staff, reasonably close by walking to the main downtown restaurant area
Fine
Excellent value for the price and walking distance to downtown Kingston. This is a student residence so expectations were not high. Positive: Traveling with a group of friends and each got our own bedroom (with a shared bathroom). So more individual privacy than regular shared hotel rooms. Only negative was that hallway sounds could have been in the room, no sound insulation in the doors. Also some extra time at check in because Expedia screwed up our reservation but got it cleared up fairly quick. Good services.
Good experience
Very tidy room, good experience. I will recommend to my friends.

Very clean, fairly quiet, and close to downtown.
