Pleasant staff, great breakfast, comfortable room. A bit run down, not terribly clean. At 90$ a night well worth it!
I recommend
This is the best functional hotel. 24hr shuttle, clean rooms, enough breakfast at 5am for people on the move.
Ambers customer services is so phenomenon with her skills, helpful, kind and respectful individual. She is outstanding, time to give her a raise and reward. There is Mcdonalds, Wendy's a walking distance but their breakfast is free here and lots of options to choose from. The room was alright upper level through stairs but trash bin was really dirty and the bed sheets had visible stains which I didnt use. The room was warm upon entry so that was my sheild blanket. A very short stay maybe less than 8 hours but was able to nap a little, shower and checked out before time.
It was located near alot of restaurants
Horrible experience!!! Don’t do it !!
The first step in the hotel was kinda fishy… but we overlooked that cause it was late! But the next day proved that we should have picked a better place .. we got into our rooms they had dirty filthy pillows on the bed with no pillow cases on all 8 pillows. The maintenance man was smelling extremely loud of liquor on his breath when he told us that he went to another room that was off line to bring us better pillows … we went out came back accidentally left our key we went to front desk & they were being very racist! Actin as if they don’t remember us! It was so many drug addicts surrounding the location as well as stayin at the location also. Never again ! But hey what did I expect when I should have known due to the amount that was being charged for the nightly rate!
The walls of the rooms are paper thin and you can hear everything in the next room.
29F Solo traveler - Felt safe Convenient place to stay near the airport. I ended up staying at this hotel on 2 separate reservations, 2 nights in a single room, and 1 night in a double room (both times in the main building). The girls at the front desk were really welcoming and friendly, always with a smile. The rooms were large and comfortable. The beds were the most comfortable I ever slept in (seriously, management, please, I need to know the brand of the mattress). I'm the kind to wake up every 2 hours and toss and turn all night. These beds, I slept throughout the night and woke up refreshed as ever! One thing I would have liked was to have a dead bolt on the door for extra safety; there was only a regular lock. The bathrooms could be cleaner, some mildew on the shower. Some comments mentioned a smell in the hallway. If I'm honest, it was present and sort of bothered me the first time I walked in, but I got used to it. It wasn't as pronounced the second time I stayed. The breakfast was good, nothing fancy but enough choice to keep you full until lunch: hot coffee/tea/chocolate, iced water, bread, bagels, jellies, cream cheese, butter, yoghurts, some fruit (apples/mandarins), and a waffle maker. Depending on what time you come down, some items might be low and it takes some time for the staff to restock them. The parking was convenient and sufficiently cleared of snow. There are a few food places right across the street that are convenient. I tried Adriany's Bites and the
Loved the people. Couldn't ask for anything better
Good place for night stay Quiet
Close to the Airport. Shuttle is handy. Stayed multiple times. Friendly staff.
Will stay again
We enjoyed our stay.
Great staff/customer service. Clean, comfortable, quiet rooms. Easy check in and check out. Great value!
Had someone banging on my door and around the building form 3-5am
A good amount of food places by the area to eat at.
The air conditioning did not work in the room. The fire alarm kept going off that day. I was verbally accosted in the parking lot by either another guest or a homeless person. Early morning, argument between staff and a homeless person that would not leave the hotel. Staff was otherwise nice enough but we had to leave before the scheduled end of our stay to get another hotel due to the fire alarm and air conditioning issues.
Walking distance to restaurants and fast food and gas station. Good service for shuttle. Breakfast is average as it reflects price. Rooms were upgraded. Not so bad experience overall keeping price in mind.
It was fine for the price
Nice place and good service
Stayed here many times! Fair prices, airport shuttle, decent facilities.
Sketchy people at all hours of the night being loud & intolerable. Won’t stay again!
I have stayed here many times but the room i got was not the best, bathroom and shower area real small wash sink was next to bed and i kept running into it, bed was excellent and comfortable, tv reception real poor like watching the apple arrow go round and round
The linen was dirty with black spots and smudges. The bed appeared as if someone got up and did not rearrange the sheets so it looked presentable. The bathroom mirror was dirty and little table in the room was old with many starches and fingers prints as if someone had eaten at the table and did not clean it. I called the lobby on entering the room, the receptionist said she would send up clean sheets that did not arrive. She said the driver would take them to me and inspect the room which he never did. The room look dirty and felt unsanitary. I did not touch anything. We called Expedia who wants a report from the manager. The drive who did not check the room said the room was ok and I was not entitled to a refund. My next question to Expedia do you think it is proper to accept and sleep in such accommodation. If the customer says the room is not up to standard why would you question me since I was willing to book at comfort Inn. Pictures on line looks great not what I expected. I am still waiting for Expida to address this problem and give me a refund.
I know there's not much you can do about how people behave on Spenard, so I'm just going to talk about the Inn itself. The room was small but serviceable. The bed was fine, and the internet was fantastic. The shower, however, was a deal-breaker. I don't know if all the showers are like this, but mine was designed to only give hot OR cold water. You got all or nothing. I had no idea they even made showers like that in the last 50 years. It was clean, but my only choices were scalding water or freezing water.
The room had a terrible smell and I had to open a window all night
Not anything like the photos!!
Check in was easy at the front desk. The lobby area looks like the photos. But Our Hotel room looked NOTHING like the photos. It was in an annex building not attached to the hotel. The heater was broken, the window was open and it was very apparent that someone had been climbing in through the window and using the phone. the chair pulled from across the room to the phone. There were no elevators, there was a homeless tent set up just below the steps going up to our room. The bathtub had black mold all around the edges. The room that we were given was HORRIBLE!!!! The worst room i've booked , ever. I would not suggest this place at all.
Ok
The walls are thin
Out
Our ac unit and heater was broken, they just provide us a small fan.
Great staff. Reliable transportation to and from the airport.
As singl lady i can not recommend this hotel it's dark, and run down a lot young men hang around drinking smoking.
The bedding had stains; the refrigerator had food in it. People were smoking outside the door. Mu daughter has asthma, and we were in Anchorage for her surgery. They made me pay for a night even though we didn't stay. You could smell marijuana and the tv was filthy with fingerprints.
They have a shuttle to and from the airport. It’s the only good thing about this place. The staff do the bare minimum. The sheets & blankets are old, stained with hair, and dirty. It’s loud and rundown. Yikes!
It seemed as though the property was in a bad neighborhood. There were people outside my vehicle at all hours of the night. Parking was not easy.
The property was in good shape, staff was friendly, the issue i have is the homeless that roam that area. Continuously roaming the parking lot, checking the dumpsters for anything to eat or drink
Horrible experience. Disgusting rooms.
I never leave bad reviews but this hotel was far from acceptable. Mold all over shower walls, stained towels and linen. But the worst part was the fact that the bedding was not clean! Hairs, dried food, and what looked like fresh stains. Almost looked like the hotel just made the bed again without changing sheets! When we called room service about it, no apologies were given, just a “we will send someone with clean sheets when we can”… 30 min later nothing. We called and again with, we are sending someone soon. We had to wait almost an hour for clean sheets because they had to wash and dry new ones since they did not have any available. And we had to make our own beds since no one came to change it! Exhausted after a long trip we still had to fix our own bed. After our stay I read the bad reviews and noticed others had the same experience and the same comments were made by other guests. Avoid this place if you can! Especially if you have young children or/and if you want to sleep in a clean sanitary room.
Nice I stayed I. The older section
free shuttle i like. the aircon i dont like
The roomi have been in try hg e 2 stays are in the other wing of the hotel. I had the exact same room both times not by choice won’t stay there again. It’s better to pay a few extra dollars for a better room. I booked a queen bed to hopefully get a better room and still was put in the same room that I had before with a double bed. Asked for a better room they offered two doors down on the same we all still the same not updated.
The only thing I didnt like was the broken A/C when we got to our room. Other than that it was excellent.
It was quaint, and I really liked staying there. The cost was very reasonable and looked like property owners tried to keep clean, but basic facility and reasonable prices. I enjoyed my stay.
Very dirty
Hotel was dirty. Comforter, sheets and pillow was stained. Seemed like it hadn't had the bedding washed. Homeless people walking through property. Can hear everything outside the room and next rooms over
Rooms were filthy smelly bed was unmade and toilet had not been flushed. Sketchy people in parking lot approached us seeming to do harm. We did not stay at the property and to find other accommodations I’d like a full refund.
No elevator and we both are old and use canes Had I known, I would not have booked this hotel Or was after midnight when we arrived at the motel, they had no rooms on the first no roofs inside the main building. We had to walk outside past several buildings and up a metal staircase outside to get to our room with heavy luggage. However, they did have a set of service at the Derby drive. The van was very nice and helped us get our luggage out of the van in the hotel and the young lady at the desk is very pleasant. There was nothing she can do about Kelly that’s a room inside, but this was not the type of hotel you said anywhere old or in frigid weather to
The puffin was perfect
It was the perfect location and all the staff was great, very nice!
Basic facilities but comfortable. Building getting refurbished which it needs. Showers stained. Limited elevator access due to construction and no elevator in annex building.
Very comfortable and the staff are very friendly and accommodating
Nice
In and Out
It was a small room that give you the basic. I had no complaints. I did have trouble with the heat and they immediately fitted the problem.
Tourists who are unfamiliar with the area and how to be safe in Anchorage should not stay here. This is a bad location with some interesting clientele. It’s probably fine as a low budget option for locals.
The room was comfy except the bathroom was a bit dirty with the stains on the wall. The rest are good.
We paid for non smoking rooms but got stuck by smoking rooms
I've stayed at the Puffin Inn a half dozen times when visiting Alaska. It is very convenient to ANC and the staff is very helpful. Just a 5 minute walk to Gwennies Restaurant! Cost is reasonable, rooms are roomy.
Parking was dismal, traffic noise, people sleeping on sidewalk. Room was clean, bed needed to be turned, breakfast was okay, coffee good. Will stay again when I'm in Anchorage again. Pets allowed.
Someone doing phentenal on corner. Stayed 7 days and not one time did they clean our room. Had to pick up my dirty towels and bring to front desk to get more that they never changed. Filthy, drug addicts, not safe Expedia!!! Thanks for the horrible suggestion And if you can not handle truth…… don’t ask for review.
It was a smoking room. Wish that was disclosed before paying. Still trying to get the smoke smell out of clothes days later. Front desk receptionist was amazing. Great people skills
Love what you get for the price
Good stay, clean rooms They are undergoing renovations, but there wasn't any issues.
Sleep and go!
I really wanted to give this hotel a good review, but the guests next door and upstairs were rowdy and noisy. Other than that, I have no complains. It was a nothing special hotel, public transportation nearby. Good enough to sleep and go
The only thing that i did not like this time around was that I was hotter the heck in the room and the air conditioning unit was really load to use and the show head did not a good job but other then that it was a great stay
I accidentally locked my room key in my room without shoes on. I had to walk to the front desk barefoot and theres excessive broken glass everywhere there. It seems to be in a neighborhood that has given up on itself. All the hotels I saw in Alaska are more run down than the continental USA, but this hotel and the area it is in, seems to be worse. Maybe there are limitations I am not aware of for cleaning the parking lot. The rooms were extremely clean and decorated in a simple and cute way. There are no bathtubs. The stairs to get up to my room were extremely rickety and weather beaten. Nice hotel staff to me, but they were talking poorly about the drug addicts outside and yelled at them. It was an unpleasant environment. They were clearly kind to "wealthy" people but not kind to other humans they deemed to be less than them. That's disappointing to see. I would not stay here again.
Too many homeless , I felt unsafe to walk outside the hotel.
Lots of homeless people around therefore surrounding properties are dirty.
Convenient
I've tried so hard to make this place work. It's a great stopover when our flights are delayed or we need a one-night place. I've stayed there over 10 times over the years and a couple of years ago new management came in and things were getting better. But I draw the line on finding hair of all kinds in my sheets. I know this place gets a lot of one-night stays and at this point, I don't think they're turning over these rooms. The sheets were filthy. I know they are redoing rooms, but not providing clean sheets is bad.
The shuttle to/from the airport is a great convenience
Everything good 👍
With shuttle bus.
The only issue i had was there was no working heat in the room and when i told them i was just given a space heater.
Disappointed
I’m not trying to be rude, but I would not recommend, nor would I stay here again. They are undergoing some remodeling, but this particular room was very old. Some of the furniture was severely stained and lamp shade was damaged. The bathroom was clean enough, but in general the room was not clean (long hairs on the bed and floor, pillow cases were yellowed/old). The staff was nice though and check in/out was easy. The lobby area was nice and continental breakfast were adequate, but not enough to make up for the room. I was hoping for a “local” place to stay, as opposed to just staying in a “chain”/brand name but next time will do more research and stick with a familiar brand hotel.
Very fast pickup from airport and drop off the next day for my rental car.
Very good, convenient, inexpensive place to stay. Clean and comfortable for a good sleep after arriving after my flight to Anchorage.
Great staff
Good for the rate. Airport pick up great! Small breakfast. Room needs renovation, especially a new mattress.
Your round entrance. Hard boiled eggs would have been great!
Smell of smoke outside of some of the rooms
Very nice and comfortable beds
Nice and quiet. Beds are comfortable
Always an great hotel to stay in while in Anchorag
Our "Go To" hotel when traveling to Anchorage for overnight or multiple days. Shuttle to and from ANC airport makes overnight stays easy. Puffin Inn "main building" rooms are always very clean and beds are excellent! Staff is professional and friendly.
Great stay, even with the renovations going on. I stayed in the older section but the room was modern and clean. Staff was very friendly. This is going to be quite the place to stay when renovations are done.
Close to the airport and they had a shuttle from and to the airport.
Good place to stay. Shuttle drivers were great
Dirty, room was filthy,
Scary!!! No heat in room, no lamps, no closet, no bathtub, toilet paper holder broken, only stayed one night. Hopefully refund for 2nd night. The Brit in a portable heater which did not work, Brit in a 2nd one. Bathroom tiny and room 1/3 size if normal room. Extremely disappointed! My granddaughter sprained ankle at hockey game, our room was located FAR away where she had to haul her hockey gear….limping with pain.
The area was a little bit crazy but other than that the stay was wonderful
Facility itself was clean inside staff was excellent, but outside was dirty, garage all over, dumpsters overflowing.
Building is in two parts which is a determining factor on the overall experience. Location is close to bus stop and airport, but in a less desirable part of town. Breakfast waffles are good, bedding and overall clealiness needs improvement.
Great place to stay!
Nice place but lots of homeless people around the area that make it unsafe and only seen one or two cops in the are, a larger police force in the area would make the area safe. Every one was nice and keep to them self, just keep in mind great for people looking for a nice place to stay but not so much if you have a family you need to keep tabs on lol.
I didn’t like how dirty the room was. The lack of housekeeping and all the trash in the parking lot
Noise till 4am. Cars coming and going for unknown reason (10pm-4am) Broken windows covered with tape in our room Undesirables walking around outside all night. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Get in quick if you want to use the waffle machine at breakfast!
Had maintenance above my room beating on things for over an hour, then had dirty water dripping from my ceiling onto my bed. Was told there were no other available rooms and that the shuttle driver would be the one to come check out my maintenance problem, very discouraging, went somewhere else.
They were doing some renovations on the property but it was still not clean. The shower in our room had mold and mildew built up so bad that I could not even take a shower in it. The door handle on our room fell off and I told them about it and I left the next day and it still had not been fixed. I canceled my other reservation there.
Worst hotel I have ever walked into AVOID
This hotel is by far the absolutely nastiest hotel I have ever walked into. I use hotels.com all the time and I think they probably should not allow this hotel to advertise on their website it is that bad. On top of the disgusting conditions of the room, this is a very bad part of town with a bunch of tweekers just walking around. This is my first review because even if I can save one person from staying here before a flight out early the next morning or whatever it is, that is worth my time writing this. These pictures they share are NOT what this hotel looks like.
Puffin Inn
It was relaxing but the room should have been cleaned better. Shower was dirty, Desk chair wasn’t wiped down. It still had make up wiped on it, and room just didn’t seem to be cleaned up very well.
The room was a bit cold. TV would not turn on. Bed compfortable but need new pillows. Had a bit of a jont to room on far side. Main under construction.
I have had to travel to Anchorage a lot from the village where I live. On this last trip, I was stuck in ANC due to bad weather in the village. I have been treated very well by Puffin Inn, and the staff have been wonderful and will keep me a returning customer.
Ok
Very dirty sheets and bed. Had to switch rooms. Receptionist was fruendly and helpful, but I would not recommend this place ro anyone.
Location, friendly and helpful staff.
