Pool area very nice. Close to ocean if wanting a day at the beach too.
Didn’t like that other guests are taking up all the loungers around the pool area and not adhering to the 1 hour limit policy in place Liked the central location of tbe resort to many attractions around it
Loved our Room!
We enjoyed our stay at the Honua Kai Resort and Spa. It's location was ideal for us. The studio was the perfect size for the two of us, and loved having the kitchenette for simple fixings. The balcony had a lovely view, and feel that the location to the beach and to Duke's made everything so easy. The bed/pillows were quite comfortable and easy access to valet parking. The parking valets were all very friendly and helpful for suggestions or directions.
nice family vacations
Amazing place to spend time with family, our 8 days vacation couldn’t be better, all that we need was there, food, pool and amazing beach
Beautiful property, excellent service by all the staff.
Good size apartment with very basic amenities. Can benefit from few updates such as mattress and utilities, power sockets near beds and lights that are not great. Apart from that it was really nice stay.
The Honua Kai was like being home away from home. Everything was clean, comfortable and had most everything we would need. It was also conveniently located near food options and a grocery store. The beach was beautiful. We also appreciated the free parking. It was perfect for my family and I. It was the best place we've stayed at in Maui and we will most definitely return. The only complaint I have is that it was almost impossible to get a chair by the pool. There were always more towels on the chairs than there were people at the pool. That was quite frustrating as I never had a place to sit and would need to leave my items off to the side somewhere as I enjoyed the pool with my daughters.
Very enjoyable stay. The facilities were very clean and well maintained. Beach is amazing. Feels very safe. Boardwalk is a nice hike. Onsite store has everything but needs more counter staff. Dinner reservations need to be made weeks in advance.
It is nice, but managed badly. At checkpoint I was told that booking with Expedia is a problem, and I get what I get. I booked garden view room and got parking and highway view with lot of car noise. The room was with old and dusty carpet, the sofa bed had old sheets on. The kitchen had few pots and pans. Few utensils, so our party of four constantly needed plates, utensils and etc. The room had no vacuum to clean, when asked about room cleaning the front desk lady said that I have to pay, but next day I was lucky different lady said I have mid stay room cleaned . Thank you. The room is so dusty , so cleaning is needed every single day. We went on Dec. 30 and it was very busy. The hotel and the pools were ok, the beach is pretty, the location is nice, but keep in mind the rooms are very old and carpet , kitchen is lacking many details, coffee maker yes, but no filters provided. Washing machines had smal, singles use packs, so detergent and dishwasher supply were needed. So many little details were needed to make our stay worth the money. I feel I was badly treated because I booked with Expedia.
Awesome stay for our family. Clean and great amenities
A nice place to stay with family. The rooms have good view and complete kitchen and ample of parking space. Couple times had issues with AC which was addressed & check in instructions can be better as the GPS takes to some other building in the property. But the staff is very friendly and helpful.
No room service during 5 day stay. The room was so dark and damp, no sunlight at all.
I like everything
service was awsome and the locals where super nice
Great property. Family friendly. Decor is dated.
Honua Kai Resort & Spa is an exceptional choice for anyone visiting Maui. The hotel is stunning, with beautifully designed rooms that are spacious, modern, and impeccably clean. The breathtaking views of the ocean and surrounding landscape add an extra touch of magic to your stay. Customer service is top-notch, with staff who are attentive, friendly, and always willing to go above and beyond to make your experience unforgettable. If you’re looking for a combination of luxury, comfort, and incredible hospitality, Honua Kai Resort & Spa is a perfect choice. Highly recommended!
Love the resort! Our room was showing its wear though. It seems like some updating is needed. The elevator was broken for a couple of days and getting to stairs was challenging too. Love have Duke’s right outside. It walkable to Whaler’s Village and the grocery store. The kitchen, washer, and dryer were great to have. Overall, we enjoyed staying here.
Slightly disappointed
I was disappointed in the room for being outdated with AC that didn't work well. Also, for the price, they should provide housekeeping services
We really enjoyed our stay here. Our room was clean and comfortable and had things we needed for the week (except hot pads for the oven). We loved the poolside service from Dukes and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. The walking path, pools, and on site shop was wonderful. We especially loved the ‘cat colony’ and visiting the cats every morning. We saw so many whales from our balcony and the beach area was perfect for snorkeling.
This place was absolutely amazing! Very clean, friendly staff, spacious and quiet but lively at the same time, amazing balconies with unbelievable views and an overall perfect place to get away! The outdoor areas were clean and inviting- 3 pools and 5 hot tubs. We all loved the food trucks that were within walking distance. Parking was close and easy. Would recommend this place to everyone! It had a condo but resort feel which was super nice!
Excellent place to stay with nice local shops nearby. Plenty of amenities on property!!
We had a great time at this resort. We loved the room and the amenities which included a kitchen and laundry. The pull out bed was comfortable for the kids, not just a thin pad. We loved that it was very close to the grocery store and many food options including a food truck lot (Duke's was right on the resort). The pools were great and access to the beach was right there as well. The fitness center was fairly big compared to other hotels. Free self parking was a big bonus as well. We would definitely come back to this resort.
Very relaxing. Beautiful ponds and a variety of pools to enjoy. Beach access is just a few steps away!
Spacious condo that needs attention to details
Very nice unit with a layout that served our needs well. A few problems that were not addressed, even though reported. The master bath shower heads did not operate correctly and remained a dribble for showers. My husband says the splitter was broken. There were ants in the laundry room. It would have been nice if the kitchen was better equipped. It was lacking basics and we cook a fair amount. We had to buy items such as cutting board, measuring cups, and a knife that was actually sharp enough to cut. Overall, the property is very nice and the staff was helpful in terms of resort amenities. The housekeeping and maintenance were lacking. Al’s, he lack of television programming and access to streaming services was ridiculous. An outdated Cable connection and lack of technology was very disappointing.
Good place to stay
Great time in Hawaii hotel staff was amazing
In a few simple words..... It felt like home away from home. Friendly atmosphere within a loving culture and community.
Amazing experience. Would recommend for anyone and will be coming back
Beautiful, clean hotel with a lot of amenities for the kids. I liked the keycode room entry. Not the most modern rooms but still beautiful, clean, in good contortion, and offer everything you might need.
This place was wonderful!
Amazing resort, bellmen are super helpful with older parents and went above and beyond
Very clean and spacious 2 bedroom unit with a full kitchen and large balcony was perfect for our family. Great pools for the kids and the free valet parking was excellent.
We enjoyed our stay the property was nice and stuff was friendly
We just got back from a 6 night stay here and had a wonderful time. We booked a partial ocean view room and are so glad we did. It was nice to enjoy coffee watching the sunrise. Having a washer and dryer in the unit was so convenient. We took full advantage of the kitchenette as well. My son caught fish on a fishing excursion and we were able to grill it on the BBQ’s on site which made for a fun dinner. The hotel was pretty quiet and very kid friendly. The beach access is fantastic and there are small playful waves. Bring water shoes. There is some snorkeling but Kanapali is just a short drive. We really enjoyed being able to walk to the food trucks and local super market. My kids loved the local cat colony that lives nearby. We had a wonderful stay and are already dreaming about our next visit back.
Enjoyed our stay. Great place to stay with kids.
Very pleasant stay! Loved the room and the pools!
Great property for families. Very comfortable with full kitchen and washer/dryer. Good restaurants nearby that are short drive. Parking is easy. Its not really a hotel, so no daily maid service but we didn't really want maid service so not a problem. Has all the amenities of an apartment or condo.
I was disappointed that we were treated differently than other guests, and the only reason that we could come up with was that we booked through Expedia. Our room was in a secondary location and next to an incredibly stinky trash disposal room. We were not allowed access to towels at the pool and had to take our shower towels to the pool area which were a different color than the other guests. Our room was not cleaned once during our stay despite being charged an additional cleaning fee at the resort.
Some things were not working in our room, e.g. master bedroom balcony door would not open, table in the balcony was very wobbly, dryer was not operating properly. All these issues were resolved by the staff when I called them, but they seem to be basic checks that property management should have checked before giving us keys and not have me call about them.
Nice and smooth experience. I recommend it!
A very very beautiful and clean place to stay.
Really enjoyed the large balcony and the BBQ area. Pools were very nice and it was very close and easy to access the beach. Night time was nice and quiet. Would definitely recommend
Property was really nice and friendly staff.
Very spacious...peerfect location for all kinds of activities! Will definitely come again
Stayed in three bedroom, three bath unit. Was on ground floor facing the beach. Plenty of room for family. Well equipped with Viking and SubZero appliances. Resort staff were friendly, helpful and fast to address any needs. Nice to have Duke’s on site.
Room 1020 was perfect; it was almost impossible to tell that this property wasn't brand new. We truly enjoyed the property.
Nice and clean
Great place to stay
I had no idea the magnitude of amenities this property had to offer. There were 3 large pools and 3 more private pools for those of us staying in the villas. The gym was nice but if you go, get us extra early and get in there by 430am because by 6am it’s crowded. The Whalers Market was a great little spot to shop for snacks, coffee or boba, but some of the souvenirs were incredibly overpriced. The common areas were well tended and staff, very friendly. The unit itself, was brand new, spacious, and the outdoor lanai was comfy. We loved it and would love to purchase a condo here someday. Also within walking distance to a dozen food trucks for variety, as well and 10 minute drive to shipping at Whalers Village with several restaurant options.
Awesome property with 4 pools, 5 hot tubs and beach access! The rooms have kitchenettes so I would recommend stopping and getting groceries and drinks at Costco before hand. The restaurant Dukes on the property is good but expensive! Overall really enjoyed the pools and proximity to the beach
I’ve stayed at this property before over five years ago and we had a great time, The property has definitely aged also I don’t like how it’s broken off in different property management and so not every guest receives the same service there’s hardly anything on the property one store and one small little area to get coffee and croissants . The only restaurant nearby is Dukes for everything else you have to go to the Next Door hotels to eat. I wouldn’t recommend or stay again, quite boring no entertainment
Overall I thought the property was great! Easy walk to the beach and other hotel restaurants. We enjoyed several meals at Dukes restaurant on site. There are some areas where the property needs updates such as the pool/hot tub tiles, showers, and chairs on balcony.
Second trip to Honua Kai Resort, leaving super relaxed. We love the location as its on the Beach Walk-Boardwalk Northend of Kaanapali, close to shops without the crowding of the other resorts. My family loves Hula Pie at Duke's and the waterslide in the main pool. The staff are attentive and friendly across thebresort. We wish they would invest in a few activities like nearby resorts with cornhole and other outdoor games for the family in the grassy areas. Condos are perfect size for a family with a full sized table on the lanai makes morning sunrise coffee and breakfast a family event and evening sunsets quiet and relaxing. The spa was amazing from the front desk scheduling and check in to Joseph's outstanding massage.
Fantastic stay for families!!
We paid for a king bed but it was a full size bed. Only 2 coffees but we stayed 6 nights and unable to get more
Beautiful beach access Great swimming pools for kids
Everything was great except for the fact that cockroaches were on the patio at night. Very disturbing to our dinner and couldn’t keep any of the patio doors open due to fear of them getting into the unit.
Beautiful property. I didn’t realize that it’s more condo complex than hotel. With that setup, there’s no daily housekeeping. (That’s on me for not.) You can refresh your towels whenever needed, bath or pool. Duke’s is the on,y restaurant on site, but it’s pretty good. My only complaint is that there are no beachside services. Most beachside resorts (like the Weston right next door) have chairs and umbrellas available on the beach, but there were none here. If your happy poolside though, you’ll be made in the shade.
Great resort for the entire family. Market, dining, & beach within walking distance. Only complaint is wish the pool slide was open longer.
Great location, Loves the beach and ocean live right outside the hotel. Lots of grill available if you like to bbq.
Was very family friendly and clean.
Property has gone down hill in the last few years. Grounds aren’t kept up as nice. Pool furniture was shabby. Pool water was cloudy. They were painting so we weren’t able to use our lanai for most of our trip, which made paying for an ocean view room pointless.
This was an amazing resort. Travelling with 3 teens and the space in the 2 bedroom was great. The resort itself is beautiful and has wonderful pools and hot tubs. It’s centrally located to restaurants, shopping and beautiful beaches. We had an amazing vacation and would definitely come back given the opportunity
Lots of room for the entire family!
Absolutely beautiful property with the best beach and sunset in Lahaina
Construction was very loud each morning. The a/c in the room didn't work the first night so I slept in a 83 degree room. that was fixed the next afternoon only to find out if the ceiling fan was on the a/c wouldn't work, so no ceiling fan used. Parking in the garage was horrible!! The staff were very nice. The resort fee's are a little high for the amenities offered. The resort needs more food options as in restaurants, we tried to order food to go from Duke's with an hour and a half wait. But the food trucks outside the resort were convenient. Overall the resort is nice but needs more to do.
Beautiful resort. Friendly and helpful staff. The pools need some attention and could use some cleaning. The room we were in (2bdrm/2bth/ocean view/7th floor) could use a new mattress in the master with a fitted sheet that actually fits. A little more shower scrubbing won’t hurt. It’ll help kill the shower mildew smell. Food trucks near by was the best, because Duke’s is horrible. Not real island food btw. Definitely liked this place.
Great property and friendly staff. Definitely more of a family style resort. The beach there had some of the best snorkeling we had found in Maui.
very nice and unique place to stay
Love the space kitchen laundry- staff all wonderful
Need a lot of improvement especially cleanliness and proper communication
My family of 5 enjoyed our stay at Honua Kai. Our room was perfect for our family size. The kids enjoyed the pools and the beach, which was steps away from our lanai. I wish there was an option to rent a daybed on the beach like the neighboring resort, The Westin. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would stay at Honua Kai again.
This property was perfect especially with kids. Loved that it was the size of an apartment and that there was a full kitchen. It was nice to also have all resort amenities with a condo
Likes: Walking distance to the beach, Dukes restaurant on site, large lanai, great view Dislikes: pool areas too crowded and difficult to find seats around the pool
Loved our 2 bedroom! The view was great besides seeing construction in front. Kids loved the walkable beach and all the pools. Staff was great! Only thing I didn’t like was the cockroaches in our room. All over the kitchen counter and bathroom. Also loved the washer and dryer but our dryer didn’t dry our clothes. Maintenance came but I didn’t see any change.
It was hot and we couldn’t control the air conditioning. Other than the giant roach the property was pretty clean.
It was perfect, especially if one prefers a more tranquil atmosphere.
Clean and modern
We had so much at this resort. Our room was fully stocked with towels, dish things, laundry things, and cooking things. All the pools were very nice and our kids had so much. The pools were so close to the beach. Very easy access. We would definitely stay here again :)
Great for kids & loved the water slide
It was the worst part of my Hawaii trip. I stayed 3 nights and they didn’t provide room service, although I asked few times. They had instructions going on right in front of my balcony, it was so noisy. For pool towels I needed to go to another building to get or for any question. This was just horrible and definitely will ask for refund for this horrible time!!!
Excellent pools for all ages. Beaches a little rocky, good for snorkeling. Accommodations very clean and comfy.
Beautiful beachfront property with large family sized condos!
We loved our stay at this Outrigger Resort! Our two 10 year old boys and 2 adults had a great time.
We had a great time, there was an issue with the screen door and they fix it that day.
Great place to stay
Definitely would stay here again!
We requested a partial ocean view and we were placed in a parking lot view room - was loud every morning .
We have stayed here 3 times since 2019. Rooms are spacious for our family, clean and well stocked. In the past there are usually some seasonings or oils left behind, this year nothing like that was in the kitchen, which is fine but now we know to buy or bring what is needed for cooking. Everything is in working order here, but noticing the pool area is looking a bit worn, missing tiles and such, still a safe place to swim if you need a beach break.
Beautiful place
Beautiful and clean property. Will absolutely stay here again.
Very family friendly.
We had a great stay at Honua Kai Resort & Spa. Our room was really nice and spacious, the grounds were very nice and well kept, staff was very pleasant and helpful, the beach behind the resort was beautiful, the food at Duke’s was delicious: it was overall a wonderful stay! We hope to visit again soon!
Beautiful property, would highly recommend it for families!
Very clean , staffs were very friendly
Loved our stay!
We previously stayed at this property in 2018. We booked the same type room this trip as in 2018 (partial oceanview). However, this year, instead of looking over the resort and partial view of the ocean, our room was on the back of the building and we looked at another building, the parking lot and a sliver of the ocean (if you squinted). When the room was assigned, we questioned the location based on our previous stay and the amount we paid for the partial oceanview room and was told we could pay an additional fee to move to the room we previously stayed. We were already paying enough so we took the room assigned. In addition to the sub par room assignment, we never had enough hot water to get through our showers, the kitchen was lacking sufficient supplies (oven mits, frying pans, silverware, etc.). Maintenance came to check the water heater and determined it was working fine but each day we took luke warm/cold showers. Additionally, lamps did not work, the patio furniture was worn and overall did not seem as nice as our previous stay.
The property was clean and amazing. They had the best pools. The only problem was parking, they had building painting going on and had very, very limited parking.

Pros: Room was plenty big for my family of 5 and was well stocked with amenities. They had full kitchen, washer, and dryer. The pool area was very nice and my kids preferred it to the ocean because it was kept at a warmer temp and had the slide and waterfalls. It also was on the beach which was nice. Con: The big problem for me was the cockroaches in my room. I noticed them the second morning when one went running out from my shoe as I put it on. The staff was very nice and comp'ed my resort fee when I reported it, but I still had to deal with it for the remainder of my stay. Besides the pests, the rooms needed some work. All the metal fixtures were well worn with a good portion of them being rusty or having the nickel playing worn off. The room had been sloppily painted as well and there was paint on the bathroom mirrors and kitchen counter tops . But honestly, if it weren't for the pests I would rate this higher.
