This is the worst hotel I've ever been to. I booked for 4 nights, and the rooms were absolutely disgusting. Bugs crawling, water leaking from the ceiling, grime on the floor, and musty smell. Not only were the rooms disgusting, the food at the buffet was not edible. I spoke to the front desk as well as guest services and they offered me a different room, which was just as dirty and disgusting. I called Expedia and they said they couldn't give me my money back unless the hotel gave a waiver, which they would not do. I booked the Royalton from my phone and decided to leave because I didn't want to spend my vacation arguing with Expedia and Guest services. I filed a report about why I was checking out early and then I called an Uber to take us to the Royalton. They won't give us back our money now. I'll never book through Expedia, I thought they had my back if something went wrong but they don't. I don't even know how this hotel is still in business. My recommendation is just go somewhere else.
hotel is old but pool , beach and the food are amazing. if you are over 50, I recommend this place
We opted to upgrade to a suite in which room was not ready until after 4:00pm. Room smelled, toilet was clogged, towels had blood stains, floors were sticky and dirty, AC did not work properly. We were moved to another room which it was much cleaner but still smelled. Food was terrible, cold and main restaurants were a disappointment.

food was not good.My last day I preferred my food in a grocery store. noisy after 12am surround mine and other rooms. Front desk will NOT answer the phone in the night . Bathroom in horrible conditons. For example: Towel holder rusted and falling from the wall, holes in the shower wall from previous "holders" maybe, toilet cover totally stained , etc...

This property has one of the most beautiful beaches in Punta Cana, yes, it could use updated, but it’s always clean, the staff friendly and welcoming.
So… The hotel is very old. The photo is completely different from what I saw. then, when we checked in, the receptionist promised to upgrade our room in honor of the honeymoon. but in the morning, they laughed in our faces and gave us a bottle of champagne, where it was all inclusive anyway. It was an ugly gesture. in the room the water in the shower does not drain, the roof is leaking, although they settled us on the ground floor. but otherwise it was normal, the food is tasty, varied. the beach is clean, beautiful

I like most of the staff how they treated us how ever we had 2 different experiences where the staff at the front desk took advantage of us and made a quick cash on us by sending us to purchase 2 items outside the resort for $25 and the second one $33 when I could have purchased them at the gift shop in the resort for only $7 each. we reported to management but not much was done until the last day we were leaving and they promised that it would not happen again. other than that we had a great time

The rooms were terribly hot, the coolest you can set it to was 25 degrees Celsius. The restaurant we went to was the Japanese one, and it was so hot in the restaurant that my husband and I did not even stay for the desserts we ordered. The staff wasn’t the friendliest and responded in snappy manners when just asking simple questions. Will not stay again.

My Review 😂💀 Our experience at this hotel was extremely disappointing from start to finish. The customer service was abysmal—staff were unresponsive and unhelpful, leaving us to deal with multiple issues ourselves. Our room was dirty, and the toilet wasn’t working, leading to an overflow that no one came to clean, despite reporting it multiple times. The one bright spot in our experience was the towel lady. She was the only person who brought a smile to our faces during our stay. Her excitement, welcoming demeanor, and kindness were truly a breath of fresh air amidst all the other problems we faced. When I complained to the front desk about the condition of our room, they were unresponsive and unhelpful, claiming they had no other rooms available and refused to change ours. This lack of care from management made an already bad situation worse. To make matters worse, we didn’t receive towels until after dinner, around 9 PM on arrival day, which is unacceptable for a hotel of this supposed caliber. The food overall was mediocre, with the only highlight being an omelet and some of the food at the Japanese restaurant. The experience at the Japanese restaurant was uncomfortable due to the lack of air conditioning, making it nearly unbearable to enjoy our food. The only redeeming factor of our stay was the beach, which was beautiful. However, that alone does not make up for the many issues we encountered. Overall, I would not recommend staying at this hotel.

Beautiful place. People were very friendly, hospitable, and inviting. Onsite activities were enjoyable. The food was not the most flavorful but edible. Rooms i had, were clean but ac wasn’t working well; missing remote in other room & never was brought, a couple roaches in another room.
I was transferred three times due to maintenance issues, roaches, dirty rooms, The snack bar salad had live roaches walking around, I notified the chef at the kitchen and he checked but took care of the problem without replacing the salad station food, in order to flush the toilet I had to do it manually putting the flaper down each time and fill at times with water.

Food was disgusting! Plan to lose weight from vomiting and diarrhea. There are cockroaches in the rooms. The staff is rude and they speak zero english. Dont bother making reservations at any of the restaurants. Its like eating canned catfood. No fresh seafood at all.
The overall experience was good but the hotel needs an updating. The bathroom was in terrible shape and the key cards don’t work most of the time. The food was ok, the beach was very good and it is kept clean.
Please do not waste your money going to this resort. The property needs major renovation. Toilet flush and air conditioning do not work. Cleaniness is not up to the mark. Food has not taste. Staff is helpful but needs more training in regards to cleaniness.
My room was full of hairs, especially the bathroom! I even paid money for the cleaning lady to clean it up and she just mapped very quickly and superficially, didn’t change the bedsheets (also with hairs on it), because she told me she didn’t have any at the moment (even though she was cleaning the rooms). She left the room basically the same way. No wonder it was dirty, if they clean this way

I don’t even know where to start so let me just give you a list: Check-in was horrible. If you can afford a premium suite, please do so because it includes private breakfast at lunch at a separate restaurant where you don’t need to stand in line. We got lucky as this is what we booked, but we didn’t know we had this included Until the night of . If you have a premium suite you get to check in on the third floor. I found out after five hours of waiting for a room. The people that check you in on the first floor are clueless to life. They could have sent me to the private check-in on the third floor, but they didn’t. It’s almost impossible to hold a conversation with these people and, I am fluent in Spanish . My other family did not get the premium suite and was almost left without a room at night. They told them to come back later so we went to enjoy the amenities and when we came back, they didn’t even want to give them the room and came up with different excuses so be aware. The lobby is always full with people complaining about not getting their rooms. If you don’t get the premium suites, then there’s always a huge line at the buffet in order to be able to get in to eat, which is very frustrated with this horrible heat and humidity Even though we have the premium suite, the bathrooms are disgusting. The faucet and everything are falling off. everything needs to be upgraded. The bathrooms look old and need cleaning. Sheets are nasty. Have more to say but no space here.
The hotel was just fine and nice for a little getaway with the family but needs remodeling and the rooms need help. My room tv at first was broken n they fixed it fast not going to complain about that. The food at the buffet was average . The restaurants for the night time is where u have to eat. We liked the french and hibachi . The italian was just ok and we did not have time to go to the dominican nor mexican. If the rooms get an update and cleaning it would deff be a better experience but my 4 year old had a blast and well i enjoyed my daily drink that made me forget about a so the things mentioned above lol
Staff service was terrible.
They have bad service and we had to wait two hours to do check in, in a huge line, were there’s not air conditioning or any fan. And then they said that they didn’t have any reservations available for the restaurants, but when we went to the restaurant the tables were half empty, and they didn’t let us in. Also, when we called to the front desk to ask for extra towels, because we were 4 people and they only gave us two. They brought it the next day. This resort is a mess.

Overall I had fun with the activities such as Bingo and the shows at the theater. The associates at the bar need to better their customer service skills; the wait time was super long because they were not paying attention.

We had a butler and she did everything she could to make our stay very nice, but part of the staff of the rest of the resort were mostly not very good with us and very hostile.

Beautiful landscape and beach. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful and others simply do not care. For example; some of the cleaning staff are super friendly and will restock your fridge towels etc. Others do not even clean room even after you leave them tips. Overall it is a decent hotel with a beautiful beach, landscape, and views.
The resort needs to be updated!!! The staff definitely need more training in every field. And the cleanness is very questionable . The hotels appeared to be understaffed. The main buffet was too small for the amount of people in the hotels to eat. Even the cooks were cooking with home made cooking utensils !!The japanese restaurant has cockroaches and the food at the mexican was horrible. I would never recommend this hotel to anybody
Room was nasty when we checked in and the picture showed while booking the room was nothing like that with lot of small cockroaches in buffet area and in the room they need lot of maintenance

Check in took 2 hours. We had to stand in a long line, it was very hot. When I got to the desk I asked was the wait usually this long they completely ignored me. Our room keys stopped working multiple times through out the stay. Each time they would say it can’t get wet or go near phones, which we weren’t doing anyway. I noticed several others had to keep getting new rooms keys as well. The casino and rooms smelled like mildew. Again when this was brought to the front desk attention they ignored us. I ended up getting sick on the last day of the trip. My friend was told she could not bring me a piece of bread out of the buffet area even though I was sick. We booked a shuttle and almost missed it due to miscommunication on the hotel workers. I will not be staying at this resort again.
primero quiero empesar en que hace 5 años yo habia ido a ese hotel a tomarme unas fotos de mi baby shower y no estaba tan malo como ahora tenia escases de agua en el bufet tenias que pedirlo como 5 veces para que llegara el agua habia que hacer fila para entrar al bufet a comer una fila muy larga habia gente del pueblo te falta eduacacion otra cosa habia cucharachas en todos lados estamos comiendo en los japanes y de repente salio una cucharacha y cocinero como si nada la mato y los cuartos llenos de cucarachas necesitan un update en los cuartos la vista bella y los cuartos muy maltratados le hace falta mantemiento uvo una noche que tubimos que echar agua para descarga porq no habia agua tube que llamar para que me areglaran el toilet liquiando el agua por todo lados el mismo dia que fuimos al restaurante japones habia una mojason en el piso que casi me caigo de cabeza porque el baño de los hombrea esta tupido y todo el agua rebalsandosd fue un aso todo
Horrible service,super long line to get into restaurant and buffet. My dinner was disgusting and the wait time was tremendously long.
The outside grounds were beautiful, the pool, the ocean, the landscaping. The resort itself is very old and nothings been updated for 24 yrs. The shower drizzled on you and was usually luke warm, if that. I killed 2 cockroaches in my room. The food was not desirable at all. The best thing was the little pizzeria but you would wait up to 2hrs for your food(not exaggerating) The communication was extremely difficult being that they all speak spanish and we speak English, google translate was a life saver, literally, because my son has a food allergy and it was almost impossible to find out what was ok for him to eat. He lived on pizza and quesadillas for 10 days.
It was my worst experience in all my trips, bad hygiene, bad service, terrible food, it's a shame that you sell that hotel and charge it in dollars.

I love this resort.. Me and my husband come here every year for my birthday. it is a well located resort with amazing breathtaking ocean views. The beds are so comfortable. The rooms are very spacious, clean & serviced everyday. The food & drinks is very good at all their restaurants with excellent service. We would like to thank Jose Carrasco for his gracious hospitality and warm welcome. We can’t thank you enough for your kindness and making the Dominican Republic feel like home during our stay. Thank you Alvaro Fontela for making sure all departments come together to give their guests an amazing experience & making sure the events was a memorable one. Una estafa de hotel si quieren saber la realidad lean todos los review en la página. La comida es un desastre no sirve ni el refresco, El AC de las habitaciones tampoco sirve actualmente estoy hospedada en el hotel y es la cuarta vez que cambio de habitación sin ninguna mejora al contrario cada día es algo nuevo hoy amanecimos sin agua en el hotel entero. Es un infierno y cada review de la aplicación de expiria está en la realidad máxima. Las habitaciones son viejas los baños oxidados golpe a humedad un desastre realmente me arrepiento de no haber hecho caso a los review.
Staff super nice. Hotel was terrible, rooms without air, water leaking in bathrooms, brokens tvs. Dont spent your money in this hotel. Congrats to the staff, they always try the best for clients. Special Congrats to maiki and luz in the buffet area, and diana in the theater area. We would like to see this staff again but in other hotel because we will never be back to this one

I liked the idea of the place is a palace but the dining food was not my favorite tease.. well my room area their was a noise issued with sounds of the Riu Hotel bar gathering placed a nuisances with the sound of music early in the mornings right through the nights.

The check-in counter staffs moving very slow . I have to wait for checking in almost 3hours . The taxi driver to pick me up from the hotel to the airport was late for 45 minutes , and he did not even say sorry or any explanation. I almost missed my flight

El servicio de limpieza en el cuarto es excelente. Fuera de ahí, el servicio es horrible. No tienen personal atendiendo en la piscinas tienes que salir hasta la barra. El buffet tiene una espera de entre 30@60 minutos y los huéspedes locales se cuelan y no hay control alguno, hasta una pelea hubo en el area de la piscina. Muy poco personal. The cleaning service in the room is excellent. Outside of that, the service is horrible. They don't have staff serving at the pools, you have to go out to the bar. The buffet has a wait time of between 30-60 minutes and local guests sneak in and there is no control whatsoever, there was even a fight in the pool area. Not enough staff.
The only thing that was lacking was the following: 1. Since the first day until the last day I reported that A/C was not working properly 2. Same as the TV was not working I reported this every day at the desk and never a maintenance personnel showed up!
Our family had previously stayed at this property six years ago. Although the food six years ago was less than desirable, the property itself was decent and the beach outstanding! I was beside myself over the condition and deterioration of this property in the six years since we had last been there. We had booked four rooms and two suites all with dilapidated conditions. The customer service was awful. The lack of cleanliness in the rooms…disgusting. It wasn’t just one of our rooms in that condition…they all were, even the suites. The frustrating part, the resort could have cared less. We had booked third-party through Expedia, therefore had some difficulty in trying to book another Property to go to..that is how bad we all wanted to leave. The staff was rude and less than helpful….and not just once…this was the norm. Nielsen was the only staff member who tried to make us feel welcomed and went above and beyond for my family. We truly appreciate his kindness. This experience will keep us from ever going back to the Dominican again.
Exceptional service in the dining room! The room attendants were outstanding. However, the sales team member, Alex, was overly insistent on showing us another hotel. One suggestion: could there be a map detailing the layout of the hotel room? Also, lable the food.

I have been to Punta Cana 4 times and this was my first at the Occidental Caribe. The hotel is outdated. The buffet food was terrible. We were offered to pay an additional $500 for premium food/dining. We were denied access to our reservation because a hotel booked trip got us to our reservation 20 minutes late. There were only 4 tables occupied and plenty of room. The pool was trashed with cups and things floating. My first room had blood all over the mirror. It was not cleaned. Our 2nd room was not much better. The folks at the desk were not helpful and were rude.
Very good but the air conditioner in the room didn’t work
My initial check-in experience was long, but I was taken care of. When I arrived to my room, the AC was broken, toilet was clogged, the tub looked disgusting, and there was hair in my bathroom sink. The room is also extremely outdated and old. I went back up to the front desk to ask for a room change since the room conditions were unlivable. I went to the same woman who checked me in, and she was extremely rude and dismissive. She said the only thing she can offer is for maintenance to fix the problems. However, she could not provide a time. I walked away and called the front desk. I was transferred to guest services, and was given a new room. The man who helped me was extremely polite and tried his best to be as helpful as possible to fix the situation. We appreciate him. This new room was still outdated, but did not have the same issues as the previous room. When I woke up the next morning, there was a dead roach on the floor. This was a draining and unique experience that I could have went without experiencing. In addition to the room complications, the staff is not the friendliest and the food in the buffet area is absolutely disgusting.
