First, Ninamu is a tiny Palm covered islet , situated in the most beautiful aqua water anywhere - that alone is worth the trip. The resort itself has 11 bungalows - each hand-built, and each different. You can hang out and snorkel there or go on excursions to see many’s rays, coral gardens or the Blue Lagoon. All food is provided and it is good. Cheffy is a real French chef, and comes up with terrific fish and desserts. The staff are all friendly and helpful. There is even a resident dog, Coleman, who makes it his business to meet all the guests and check out opportunities for belly rubs.
Very unique property with very thoughtfully and distinctively designed bungalows nested on a small private island with friendly sharks snorkelling with you every day. Very attentive and professional crew running your experience.
This was an amazing place!!! The staff was absolutely outstanding - super friendly and helpful. The food was first rate! The island is truly paradise on earth. We loved the excursions, the snorkeling was fantastic and the beaches were beautiful. Our bungalow was just perfect - and they did a great job cleaning every day. We had a fantastic time! Thank you Ninamu for an experience we will never forget!!!!
Very remote and quiet
hello friends: Hope you are all well.. first, I wanted to congratulate Laeticia for her great energy and always with a smile. She is a nice manager there...we appreciated her 🙂. I also congratulate the owner for the walls and ceilings with the shells. This was amazing. TEAHUPOO.jpg We had a good stay overall. Just wanted to point out something. This message is for Chris, the owner, to see what he thinks. As you may know we traveled due to our silver wedding anniversary and reason why I booked your most expensive room, and I booked it specifically due to the big jacuzzi (I knew you did not have hot water there, but still wanted to be there relaxing). As I say, it was because of this I booked the room and hoped to spend afternoons there relaxing and having the romantic time anticipated. NOWHERE on the site or emails or during reservation was it mentioned that it could occur (in summer or whatever) that there was a possibility that the jacuzzi was not available due to lack of rain or water. I understand nature happens but this should be very clear at time of booking that this is a possibility that the jacuzzi may not be used if it has not rained, or depending on the months, etc etc. Then I could have opted for another type of room (less costly) or another resort. Since the jacuzzi was not available for use I had to leave a day earlier and spend an extra 900 at a beach bungalow at the Pearl, so we can have better romantic set up etc. Since the tub was
Lovely Robinson Crusoe-type bungalow on the sea with harmless baby black tip sharks swimming in the shallows in front of our room. The whole resort is a work of art.
Ninamu is a paradise! We spent five nights here with four adults and one kid (3 yo). The grounds are beautiful, the bungalows are uniquely designed (though some don't have AC fyi), the food is absolutely delicious, the staff are friendly and helpful, and there is plenty to do. We went out on an excursion nearly every day and still had plenty of time to relax on the beach and snorkel right out front of the resort. There are plenty of watercraft available to explore the island and surrounding waters (kayaks, SUPs, snorkel gear) and lovely beach-side bungalows in case you need some shade. Our favorite excursion was the coral garden, but we also enjoyed swimming with the manta rays and snorkeling in "the pass." The bungalows are clean, comfortable, and airy. The staff are great about providing anti-mosquito inscents (those coils you burn), which did help with the mosquitoes. Do bring bug-spray! We loved the food. Plenty of fresh fish prepared many different ways and scrumptious desserts. The chef kindly made separate, simple dinners for our young one who doesn't have a very adventurous palate. He also made me a delicious cake for my birthday! The only hiccup was some confusion around booking the larger room, and this was probably my fault. The price is based on the number of people and the type of bungalow you want. We got it all sorted out on the island, so it was no big deal. Also, a coconut crab stole one of my daughter's water shoes - don't leave lightweight shoes outside!
Awesome low key resort for relaxing and anything water related.
Unique magical experience!
The bungalows are very nice and hand made by Chris the owner. You won’t find anything like it elsewhere. We stayed in 2-story bungalow (the Tamanu) and it holds 4 bed that are comfortable. The food is excellent! Chef Jean-Francois has a very unique cooking style and he surprises you every day! The breakfast is even better! He makes you those delicious eggs and french pastries which are as tasty as they are back home in France. The hospitality is amazing! Claire and Mana work really hard everyday to make your experience comfortable and memorable. They are also very humble and always up to show you great stuffs! There are plenty of fish and black tips sharks along the island and we also had the pleasure to swim along the great mantas rays! The activités with this resort are really affordable so did a few! I highly recommend this spot! Thank you all!
Good people, great tropical island stay
Perfect Pacific Island getaway. Lovingly built eco bungalows, each one unique. The good was the best i had in all of French Polynesia. Was exactly what I was hoping for. One small note, they don’t provide conditioner or lotion so if you are partial to yours, you’ll want to pack those along. Thanks for the epic stay!
Lovely stay
Lovely stay - the service was amazing, the food was delicious!
The entire property was unique and was really well organized
Ninamu is absolutely unique in French Polynesia! It is a private island, so you have the entire island for yourself, which creates a very special feel already. The best thing about it however is the staff and the owners, which are absolutely magnificent. The chef is amazing and prepared daily the best food we had during our stay in FP! The bartender is super and makes amazing cocktails and the owner, Chris, is very friendly and helpful and just a joy to spend time with. It's very hard to describe in words the feeling that you have at Ninamu. You really just have to go and visit!
Slice of Paradise for Active Adventurers
If you love natural beauty and adventure, and aren’t looking for a five star hotel, look no further. Ninamu is located in one of the most beautiful places on earth on its own private island. There are 8 custom built tree houses on the island, a common area where meals are served, and a shed with lots of toys at your disposal, including stand up paddle boards and kayaks. Each day the resort offers to take guests out on an adventure, which might be snorkeling, visiting a lagoon, or a local farm. These activities are included in what you pay, and 3 meals a day are also included. There are certain things that cost extra, such as deep sea fishing, scuba diving, and drinks at the bar. Some of my favorite memories were formed at Ninamu (such as snorkeling with massive manta rays and a pod of dolphins) and it will always hold a special place in my heart. This said, if you are looking for luxury or to be waited on, Ninamu is probably not for you, as the accommodations are not luxurious (there is no air conditioning, most of the bungalows are open air, and some things could use an update and/or repairs, such as the well worn stand up paddle boards) and service can be hit or miss.
Lovely Location but Disappointing Activities
The hotel was fine, with the pros being fine food prepped by a French Chef, lovely location, the major cons being very disappointing, repetitive activities and uneven service levels. The hotel bills itself as being a place for activities, but this seems a bit of a misnomer when two of the three days we were offered the exact same activity. Only on one day was there a real effort to provide unique and interesting activities. This aspect of the stay was very disappointing given the price point of the resort. Perhaps the marketing of activities as part of the stay should be deemphasized by the hotel in its write ups or it should improve the quality of its offerings. The location and food are still quite nice, but sadly the activities were lacking given the prior build up of this in hotel ads etc. prior to our arrival.
Pacific getaway
Ninamu is a place for ocean people who want to avoid the crowd and experience some of the best snorkeling in the world. It is on an island about a quarter mile way from the end of the village on Tikehau. No dead coral here, so many kinds and colors of fish beggar description. Bungalows are made of native materials and hidden away in a lush jungle setting. No dress code, no closets. Clothes are hung on the many branches and coral protuberances available. Bottled water for drinking is available in the lobby. Since Ninamu is operated a a nature preserve, insect repellent is necessary. I recommend DEET. Beaches are sand to the water's edge, but then become small coral fragments, so full foot beach shoes are a must. the resort has some but not all sizes. Wi-fi is available off and on, but slow. Excursions are planned everyday and announced at breakfast. Manta rays, Bird Island, snorkeling, Blue lagoon, etc. Guests usually eat together and produce some great conversations. Service is above reproach, needs are addressed immediately. We mentioned that we'd like to see a coconut crab at some point. Noah ran off and came back with one to admire and photograph. Fish is prevalent for lunch and dinner and expertly prepared, and if prepared by Jean Francois (Cheffie) you are having the very best. Chris the manger says he came to the island with just a chainsaw and bulldozer and made it what it is today. "one call does it all" for sure. Kind and feisty Greta is his helpmate.
Challenging but so worth it!
The isolated tropical island is not for everyone. The UV is severe, the beaches are hard coral and mosquitoes are common. Because of that you are more likely to meet likeminded people who are perfect to share the experience with. Ninamu is a special place. I spent 9 days with the best people I've met in years. A perfect compromise between Polynesian lifestyle and "chain hotel" comfort. Never bored and the serenity revived my inner strength.
Feeling singled out - for a good reason
I had a wonderful time at the Ninamu Resort. I felt welcome from the moment I was picked up at the airport to the sent off three days later. I was the only guest during my stay, but the couple who was in charge always made sure that I was being offered the free excursions that came as part of the booking (a trip to the organic farm, the bird island, the manta ray cleaning station, kayaking, snorkeling, etc) . I even was offered individualized yoga instructions :) How would you feel if you have an awesome cook asking what type of food you want and cooked up the most delicious dishes - breakfast, lunch and dinner :) The maintenance staff on the island was professional and respectful of my privacy - well, I had about half of the island all to myself - really!!!! Housekeeping was done daily when I was busy doing all kinds of explorations (see above). I cannot emphasize how much I enjoyed my stay there. Truly, Robinson Crusoe in STYLE.
Fantasy Island
From moment the small plane arrives until it leaves, Ninamu Resort is magical. The main building and 6 bungalows are made of coral, wood and woven palm with whimsical art work and comfortable furnishings. The island is small enough to walk or swim around but has a variety of woods and beach to walk around. And the staff is kind, helpful and fun. Great food too.
