This hotel ended up being such a shame as my girlfriend and I were so excited to go after seeing lovely pictures online. What we found there was not anywhere near as nice as advertised. The rooms were not cleaned properly and the kitchen area was incredibly dated. The main issue was that the air conditioning was awful which meant that I spent most nights sleeping on the sofa as it was the only area of the room which was not too hot to sleep. I complained to hotel management about this multiple times who did not resolve the issue. The lack of sleep seriously impacted our holiday.

We absolutely loved our stay in the ocean suite! Room was spectacular! The only criticism I could give is that the staff at the bar in both pool areas were quite unfriendly, and weren’t very pleasant in the bar areas. It wouldn’t put me off from staying again though.

Room layout not well thought out. Nowhere to hang towels, no shelf in shower to put shower gel, shampoo etc . Lighting very poor. No dressing table.

I don't have a bad word to say! About 20mins drive from the airport costing about 40euros in a taxi. The hotel was spotlessly clean everywhere. Excellent high quality food choices for reasonable prices. Staff were friendly and polite. Facilities were excellent. Plenty of sunbed arounds the pool with an adults only section on the 11th floor with amazing panoramic views. We were abit hesitant about the access to the sea area as its not a 'traditional beach' but the sea was so clear and non polluted also life gaurd warning flags in action. Approx 20min walk into Funchal city. 2mins up the hill from the hotel plenty of bars and restaurants serving variety of excellent food. Will definitely be staying here again and will recommended!

Super clean hotel, very pretty, friendly personnel and incredible terasse (and its access to the ocean) It feels safe and the view from our room (ocean room) was simply breath taking.

The hotel is a little bland in design but the room was a good size. Breakfast was ok. The pool is a nice touch and the food in the restaurant by the pool was really good. Was nice to use the steam and sauna after a long hike. There isn’t loads of parking but we never had a trouble parking. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Beautiful property, and great pool / resort area. Our room and balcony overlooking the pool area and ocean were phenomenal. We loved our stay here and proximity to bars/restaurants. Madeira is gorgeous.

Amazing!!!!!! We stayed here for 5 nights but we definitely could have stayed longer! We stayed in the Ocean Suite which was more like a small apartment with a small kitchen and lounge/ dining area. We also had an incredible view of the ocean! The walk into Funchal was around 15 minutes but there are restaurants and pubs nearby which are easy to get to. The hotel is on a steep hill, so bare this in mind when booking! The hotel itself was lovely. There are 2 pools, one with a bigger restaurant and more sun loungers. This also had its own pier so you could swim in the sea. The other is a rooftop pool with a bar and sushi restaurant (we had the sushi and can confirm, it is 10/10) with more incredible views of the sea. We would DEFINITELY stay again and highly recommend!!!

The NEXT hotel is sleek, clean and walkable into Funchal. The vistas from the room are gorgeous and I love that you can also access the amenities at the Royal Savory from the hotel, as well. The only thing that would make me not want to stay there is the bathroom privacy- there basically is none, just a clouded glass door that is so see through that you can see the color of people's skin and movement. This is both for the toilet room and the shower room. We actually took turns staying on the deck while others were in the shower to give them privacy. It was annoying. There was no place to hang a towel so afterwards, you had to walk out all wet and it just wasn't comfortable.

Great seaside room Turkish sauna pool with wonderful beds!!

Breakfast varieties are excellent. Fresh and healthy. Clean, beautiful view to the ocean. Good area around the pool and convenient steps for swimming in the ocean.

Our room was so much greater than we could have imagined. The rest of the property was lovely and on days we needed a break from all of the site seeing we had such a relaxing day at the pool. I also loved the use of their app which made requesting anything from an ironing beard to a late night bottle of wine so simple and easy. I would be so happy to stay here again.

Nice hotel but stale air in the room

Nice location, good gym and pools. For some reason my room had strange (bad) smell. I tried to get rid of it by keeping the balcony door open during the nights but still there remained some smell the whole visit (four nights). I tried to change the room, but unfortunately the hotel was fully booked.

Really lovely hotel, conveniently located for an easy walk into the centre of Funchal. Staff were all very lovely. My only negative point was that unknown to us, we arrived when the carnival was on, and had difficulty both finding and the accessing the hotel due to road closures. After a long day of travelling and trying to navigate the roads at night in a hire car, we went round in circles trying to reach our hotel. After trying to phone the hotel for advice, no one answered our call. Eventually we managed to find a blocked road, that said access only and got to it. Answering the phone or an email to explain how to get there on carnival night might have saved a lot of first night stress. Overall though, we had a lovely stay, and reception even rang down to the kitchen to ask if we could get a meal late at night on arrival day. We would definitely stay there again.

Enjoyable stay.

The hotel is very good overall. The 'space age' theme is a little strange - particularly the graphics in the lifts and the bedrooms are minimalist up to the point of ‘operating theatre chic’ - too basic for a 4* hotel. No enclosed wardrobes. The room lights are overcomplicated with one part of an unlabelled bedside double switch turning on the bedside reading light on - the other turning all the lights off! Not good if your partner is in the bathroom. The room we had wasn't classed as sea view but we did have a rather lovely sea view over an old church (room 520). The rooms have a kettle but no tea or coffee - a bit stingy at this price point. The breakfast was very good with a wide choice of cooked items and fresh fruits, yoghurts etc. All very clean and well-tended by the cooks. The breakfast room however is very dark and dingy when it's cloudy outside. The rooftop pool and the seaside pools are beautiful although the latter does have a mosquito problem at dusk.

An amazing week…

I could not fault our stay! The staff are attentive and friendly, the rooms and views are lovely, and the facilities are superb. We will 100% be visiting again… especially the rooftop bar 😍

Liked location. Would have appreciated a map to designate the walkways up to the shops near the Savoy Palace. Easy walk and lots of options.

Although on the whole the stay was good our Room was really warm on a night it appeared the Climate Control wasn’t working and my friends said the same about their rooms also this needs dealing with and the Complimentary Water in the Room was not replenished during the stay also there were no Tea or Coffee in the rooms just needs a bit more attention to detail and finally although Mosquitos are not the Hotels fault around the restaurant Bar area there were clouds of them and we all got a lot of bites so maybe they could spray something to keep them down around that area I’ve been abroad for many many years on holiday and I’ve never ever been bitten like that

Things to love: wonderful bed, good amount of space, ocean view, and the hotel’s restaurant was really very good. Great food and the staff there were super Things that didn’t hit the mark: very strange space shuttle themed elevators and an unexpected lack of care about the guest experience. No extra mile here. For example, while our room had a coffee machine, the hotel wouldn’t provide fresh pods for it each day. They explained that you have to pay for pods after the first day. I’ve never encountered such a bizarre policy at a hotel. One day, we pressed the point in our nicest Canadian, “sorry, sorry, sorry but the listing expressly says the nespresso machine is included” kind of way. The concierge rolled her eyes at us and said “fine.” Later we found some ancient, crumbly instant Nescafé packets tossed into the room. It was so passive aggressive it was almost funny.

Really stinky around the hotel. Beautiful view. Nice breakfast. Unhelpful and unfriendly staff.

Lovely stay

Really modern, good quality hotel. The two pools are amazing, plus the direct access to swim in the ocean. Rooftop bar also a big plus! Rooms are spacious and clean. Food at the hotel was good, but it would have been nice to have some traditional Madeiran dishes on offer as well.

Brilliant hotel with amazing pools

We had a brilliant stay at the Next Hotel. It actually went beyond my expectations and we loved the 2 amazing pools, having direct access into the sea for snorkelling, the bars, the DJs and the staff. I would say the staff especially were absolutely brilliant. We would definitely book again and wished that were a bit gutted to leave. If we were booking again I'd book an extra couple of days just to be able to enjoy the hotel for a bit longer! Thanks for such a brilliant end to our holiday

The first room that we received was very small and loud. Music on corridors is annoying. Coffee at breakfast is very bad quality. The rest was ok.

The hotel is modern and has such a.chilled vibe. Exceptionally clean throughout throughout. The rooms are are amazing, comfortable, spacious and clean. Every staff member is amazing. Nothing is too mich trouble. We cannot find a single fault with this hotel. We will definitely be back.

Brilliant location

Fantastic stay at Next Savoy Madeira. Location was excellent and all facilities and staff were 5*, very modern hotel.

The Recharge Restaurant was amazing!! This hotel had great accommodations and was in walking distance of everything we wanted to see.

Amazing stay!

Really lovely hotel with fantastic staff. For the amount it costs I would have expected water and coffee to be replenished daily in the bedroom. No facility on site to refill a water bottle after breakfast so you have to buy bottles from the bar or shop which goes against the eco values. Only watch out is for light sleepers, it can be very noisy at night both from other guests (you can hear phones vibrating in neighbouring rooms, people in the corridors) and music from the sister hotel. With ear plugs it’s no issue.

Funchal Trip

Very good location in Funchal, close to the Port and nt too hilly to get to. Facilities are good and room was comfortable. I woukd certainly consider staying here again but probably not take the breakfast option.

A Lovely Hotel!

We had a lovely stay at this hotel. It is modern and very clean which means a lot to us. It was also very comfortable. The pool area is also great whit super sea swimming facilities. There are more expensive hotels surrounding this hotel but even for the same money we would prefer the NEXT Savoy.

Fantastic stay!

Really enjoyed our stay at the Savoy Next. Condition and cleanliness of the hotel was excellent - it has recently been completely refurbished. The position of the hotel is A1 - a short walk into town and lots of great bars and restaurants close too. Pool area is lovely - very chic and modern. Pool not great for swimming, but very comfortable beds and as it’s not that deep, the water temp was comfortable even in March. Access to the sea is good for more serious swimming. Food and drinks at the pool bar were good - prices slightly more than other bars / restaurants but ok for a hotel. Staff were excellent, particularly those at the pool bar who couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. Would go back in a heartbeat.

No yea or coffee in room extra charge for it also extra €10 a night charge for parking. Music piped loudly through hotel at all times. Shower inside bedroom with glass partition so no privacy & toilet light shone through glass partition also. Not a 4 star hotel given lack of amenities.

Nice hotel in a nice area.

Overall, it is nice looking hotel and a great breakfast. The service at breakfast is good and lots of choices. The foyer looks nice and one of the young lady with long blonde hair was helpful and friendly. There was no instruction at the check in of how to use lift or where to find things. No smiles here. My main problem was when I tried to charge my phone on the third night it got damaged so I lost everything on my phone and the use of my phone. When I mentioned this at the desk the young lady just said she will tell the electrician that was all. I lost everything on my phone. If you are in the main building and want to have a sea view you need to be at least on the 5th floor or above. We were on the third floor and all we saw first was the roof of the entrance to the hotel and partial seaview which was about 400 yards away. There were cruise ships nearby coming everyday or otherwise it is a quiet area despite being in front of a quite busy road, with the noise of mopeds.

Amazing new facility. Location was perfect for a nice walk into town. Staff were all friendly and easy to approach. Was nice to have parking after a long day of road tripping. Breakfast was more than one should expect. Fresh everything. Bravo NEXT Savoy.

Modern clean good value, we’d stay agin for sure

Nice design and convenient location. The staff at reception was not so friendly as I expected. No special attention to Expedia Gold members. Please avoid breakfast there. 17€ for instant coffee and powdered juice. The waiter said that it was hard to manage good coffee and fresh juice because of the number of guests. Seriously? Instant juice powder in the island where the millions of fruit trees grow. Coffee in the bar was much better.

Excellent Hotel in Superb Location

Excellent hotel in perfect location for walking into city with plenty local bars and restaurants. Rooms are very modern with very comfy beds. Although the breakfast is almost the same each morning it is of a good standard. Food served at Recharge restaurant is excellent. Both pool areas are very well maintained with plenty of beds and space for everyone.

Definitely recommend.

Pros: Overall the hotel is lovely and we'd come back. The staff is kind and helpful. the location is great and the amenities were amazing. The breakfast was also delicious. The location was also ideal as we could walk in either direction to get to restaurants and activities. Cons: we had two twin beds placed next to each other. There was very little lighting in the suite, it was hard to read in the room at night. The shower door didn't go all the way so every time we showered, there was a sizeable puddle in the bathroom. And this is a little picky, but given the price point and 4-star rating, the shower products were not great. I'd recommend bringing your own bath products.

Our room was in the 3rd floor and we could not even open the shades as people would be walking past by our windows. No privacy whatsoever as someone always peaking from the street. Room had ants. It was terrible! It was not the experience we have expected overall.

Off the mark!

While on paper this hotel has it all for a 4 star it is just missing the mark. Location is fab. Pool and recharge restaurant are fab. Individual staff are brill but inexperienced. Network bar (lobby) is cold (atmosphere and sometimes a smell from the unit just below the hotel that always smells when u pass it) and it is torture to get a drink from staff who are not bar trained. Breakfast does not have a fresh cook egg station although we discovered that you can request freshly cooked eggs from the staff! Juice is diluted from concentrate and like water. No jugs for milk - had to use a teapot, no plates for bread - have to remember to bring the one from the table. Otherwise good choice and quality. Breakfast room is very dark and there is no outdoor area so everyone tried to sit by window to see what they are eating. No robes for the spa or tea / coffee in the room but they do provide a kettle. We saw tea on the chambermaid trolley and we saw other guests with robes so it may depend on the room (so grading of rooms rather than the hotel???!!). Shower is in the room not separate so this may be an issue depending on who u are travelling with. Stayed over Christmas / new year but no access to cloud bar on 11th floor for fireworks unless paid for event (supper and music starting at 11 @€150 a head!!). Whole experience just lacked comfort and warmth!! Expect a little luxury in a so called 4 star!

Fantastic place to stay in Madeira. We stayed in December. The hotel is in an ideal location, just a few minutes walk from the port and about 15 minute walk into Funchal old town area. The hotel was clean, modern and very well maintained. The views from the sea view room were incredible and well worth the slightly more expensive price. Also the views from the rooftop pool bar were excellent. The breakfast was very good with a huge selection of hot and cold items, coffees, juices and pastries. We only had a short stay so didn’t make use of the gym/spa. The only minor downside was the additional charge for parking within the hotel. Overall it was a fantastic stay and would highly recommend to anyone looking to stay in Funchal!

Great find

Fab hotel and great location on the promenade. We had amazing views of the sea from our room and the private balcony was a great bonus. All the bars especially the recharge bar and restaurant and definitely worth the time as the food was varied and excellent. Staff really helpful. Only one thing!!! It wasn’t explained that all the hotel amenities are explained via a QR code on a box in your room that takes the place of the hotel manual! Download the signature savoy app when you get there. Also fab little supermarket about 200m up the hill for water etc. The price for a 750ml bottle in the hotel was €5. It’s 90cents up the road.

Our first room had ants so asked to switch to another room after two days. Our second room had bed bugs my wife and I got bitten all over our legs and back and asked to switch to third room…it too had ants but we stayed figured it was better than bed bugs. We went to local hospital to have it checked out. Staff was not sympathetic and only acknowledged with ok we’ll move you to another room. We’ve never experienced bed bug bites in all our years of travel. Extremely disappointing experience.

Solo Traveller Madeira Experience

I stayed in the Savoy Next Hotel For 3 nights. I had a great experience and stay at the hotel on arrival was well received by front desk checked in. I arrived 2 hours before official checking time at 2pm. I was given key to access the Rest and Recharge area that hasa restsurant and swimming pool overlooking the ocean. It was sunny the day I arrived so relaxed with a glass of chilled fresh juice . 2pm Room was ready and I was definitely not dissapointed better in person than the pictures id seen..clean, spacious for 2 but was a solo traveller. I had the ocean facing balcony views which was breathtaking seen the sunrise. Breakfast wasn't included so paid 14 euros for 1 day as I had booked an excursion and need some brekie I dont eat too much but they had a good selection of continental / hot food and the usual so if you have time to eat then make sure you eat your moneys worth better include it in your booking rather than paying on the day which is what I did. It would have been 11 Euros a day if i had included it in my original booking. However lots of places to grab coffee and pastries. Rooftop bar unfortunately the night I went up it was closed due to rain but looked good through the windows. Overall stay & experience was good. I enjoyed my stay staff helpful and thanks to young man who brought my Birthday Cake to my room very pleasant.(cake paid for ) complimentary bubbly for 1 . I will definitely stay at Next excellent hotel choice. Close to waterfront Oldtownfunchal

Really good experience

We had problems with the Wi-Fi reception in the room and the next day they gave us another room without problem or delayed. Just to say something to improve, it would be really nice have hair conditioner and tea and milks bags. In a hotel of this category these things are esencial. The service and all the staff was very friendly and professional, the best of the savoy group.

Easy walk into centre of Funchal and some good bars and restaurants just around the corner. We stayed in the ocean view room and it was amazing. The biggest bed I've ever slept in. The pool areas are both beautiful and clean.

Good location but strong smell of waste.

Reasonable hotel, clean rooms and good level of customer service. Few issues with room allocations, family of four (2rooms) one room on floor 2 and the other on floor 5!! We requested two rooms together which they finally agreed to.

I stayed at the Savoy Signature from the 7th to 10th October. The hotel is immaculate and the room size is perfect. A special thanks to Jessica Abreu who decorated our hotel room following my proposal to my girlfriend. I would happy stay again!

Incredible stay at this hotel. Everything from the design and decor, to the amenities and staff is top tier. The price and value is very much worth it and you are very central to everything in Madeira. Would definitely come back!

Great hotel. Great staff. The one complaint was that the ac in my room was not very good.

Room (Oceanview Suite) was great and hotel facilities were very good. Buffet breakfast exceeded our expectations, especially the range of freshly baked goods. Minor disappointment; the booking was for three people but we were only provided with two glasses, two espresso cups and saucers, and two mugs. We were provided with the correct number of towels and bathrobes.

Fab location, good value

Great value, and the accommodation and location was top notch! My only couple of issues - the aircon was way too weak in our room, and reception didn’t seem too bothered. Also the top floor pool and bar area : this should be adults only, and we were disturbed by kids splashing around in the (tiny) pool, in what is otherwise a stunning but intimate space Claudio and Nelson really stood out as being amazing and friendly bar staff
