Excellent bed and breakfast with lots of history and great hosts
Excellent home, awesome personalized breakfast.
We had a lovely stay and wish we could have stayed longer:) Such a unique property steeped with history and our host Younger Bob is wonderful with genuine hospitality and passion for this place - it’s past- and their guests-Thank you!
History with a view
A cornerstone in Manapouri area tourism with comfortable rooms, great hosts, delicious breakfast in the most desirable location in town.
Fabulous view and lovely guest house.
Absolutely brilliant! Our room was comfortable and charming. The overall property is lovely and Rob our host couldn’t have been more helpful, breakfast was excellent. We really enjoyed our stay and recommend it to anyone. Thank you Rob.
Lovely relaxing place to stay
Rob was an excellent host and made our stay very enjoyable.
Very nice people Wonderful breakfast
Excellent hosts, great hospitality, very good breakfast. Creaking floors and different water taps for hot and cold in the shower as well as in the sink I would not expect at this price level.
Wonderful hosts who went above and beyond in every way, coupled with an exceptional lodge.
Unrivalled mix of location, views, service&history
We stayed for two nights and chose the house because of its close proximity (less than 10 mins walk) to the departure point for the Doubtful Sound day trip. But there is much much more to the house than this - it is one of the most amazing places we have ever stayed in. Firstly, the house itself and views from the house/gardens are stunning - we woke up to a view of a beautiful rainbow over green hills on the left and snow topped mountains in front. Secondly, Robert was the perfect host - going out of his way to give us additional information and help us out with anything and everything. And thirdly, the house has so much character and history - as does the host and his family …. we will leave it to them to share the stories with you and not spoil the surprise.
We loved our stay at Murrell's! Such a lovely countryside setting with a "grand view" indeed! Bob, the host, is exceptional and welcoming and taught us about the history of the property. We enjoyed our cup of tea and beer on the front porch and went a lovely walk from Murrell's down to the beach the first night. Room was spacious and bed was very comfortable. A short drive to Te Anau. Tasty breakfast in a lovely dining room setting. We checked out early after our second night to get to the Doubtful Sound cruise and Murrell's is literally right by the parking location to the cruise. We stayed 3 weeks in NZ and Murrell's was one of our most favourite places to stay!
Ideal for Doubtful Sound
Old fashioned guest house with very friendly owner. Walkable to boat for Doubtful Sound. Limited facilities locally unless you drive to Te Anau.
homey, great views and lovely owners
Lovely home and suroundings, right in front of the lake with great views. very relaxed and homey atmosphere. lovely and very helpful owners
Great location and interesting history.
Welcoming hosts. Great location near lake manapouri. Interesting history.
Great location and quiet. However, old and needing some updating. Guest house is musty.
Run down facility very over priced!
Very over priced for a hotel room with no TV and a terrible bed!
Pleasant place to stay
We enjoyed our stay here. Owner went out of his way to make our stay enjoyable. It is a very old house but comfortable overall. Complimentary glass of wine with olives on arrival was nice. I would not have paid an extra $90 for the "lake view" room. It was more like a port hole view of the lake from one narrow window. There was no second 'privacy' curtain over this window so we had to keep the main curtain closed anyway so others could not see in. Breakfast was terrific. Great local ingredients and the hot breakfast was well cooked. Pleasant place to stay but value for money needs to be weighed up. We stayed on New Year's Eve so were not so concerned with price.
Great location
Enjoy our stay,would return
