Chilled out place. Easy peasy all round
Relaxed checkin.....just a friendly welcome and showed us to our room. Lovely man. And didn't have to fill out anything. Loved it!
Very tired and dark.
It was close to venue.
The towel rail in the bathroom fell off when we went in there, the guy came & looked at it & then glued it back on, not sure how long that would last. The room was tired with areas if neglect, door to bathroom dud not shut properly.
Time for a bulldozer
Unassuming little place, but well worth the stay
I little bit hidden entryway to the Motel off of Carroll, but worth a stay in the value for the price paid. Clean & comfortable. Not the hotels fault, but there was a noisy neighbor on one of my nights I would certainly stay again whenever in Dunedin
Great clean tidy and easy place to stay.
Great for what we needed, don’t judge a book by its cover, excellent service from Brian
Though it is an old building the place was clean quiet centrally located and Mr Brian was a great host
Very good
Perfect place to stay for the night!
Not really a motel.
This is not really a motel. They have a first come first served small car park and the rooms are more like a hotel. Wifi was poor but made up for by free washing and drying facilities. Room wasn’t properly cleaned (there was a paper, bottle and dust under the bed for example) and I hit my head on the badly placed microwave. Price was the saving grace.
Extremely kind reception! Something went wrong with the booking and they had only prepared for me to arrive the next day. I was almost prepared to find somewhere else to stay the night, but they prepared their break room for a single night and let me stay there while also giving me a refund.
I don't know how this got 3 stars. We've stayed in far nicer for the same cost. In a room for 4 there were only 3 off most things in the kitchenette. The mugs are stained, chipped and cracked too. The room smelled of fried food and looks like it was furnished from a charity shop. The blanket on our bed had dried on brown crispy dirt and the carpets are dirty. Would not recommend.
Quiet
Sound issues
Sound seems to travel through the walls and floor of the complex pretty easily and there was a family with young kids running around and screaming till after midnight that kept me up plus other guests.
Comfy bed, good for the price, no surprises
This property was well below standard. There was rubbish littered in the carpark. This included food products.Scaffolding due to roof maintenance hindered access to garage.I would never recommend this rundown unsafe motel to anyone.
All was good apart from other noisy staying who were having a verbal argument
Loved everything except for the noisy neighbours!
Everything about the room was great - it was clean, the bed was comfortable, the shower had great water pressure, and the kitchenette had everything I needed. I was a bit disappointed by the view from my window as I had expected something like the lovely view in the picture, and all I had was a tiny window that overlooked a very nasty-looking carpark area behind neighbouring buildings, but luckily I wasn't there for the view. The biggest downside was the fact that the walls were so thin I could hear every word spoken by the people in the neighbouring room, and they talked well into the small hours of the morning, and then started up again early in the morning. I would definitely stay here again as the location was convenient and the facilities were good, but I'd pack some earplugs!
The place was nothing like the on-line photos and I wouldn't stay there again or recommend it to anyone
Lovely, friendly staff. It says budget hotel on the wall outside, but the room had Everton you need, with a great heater and free use of the laundry. The limited parking was the only potential downside for me but I was to always tome it right to get the free park. Amazing location for the price.
Poor value. Prices jump for graduation weekend.
Did like free on site parking
Stay at Motel on Carroll
Studio room was clean and well prepared. Very close to where we were having a meeting.undercover parking was important to us. Would be happy to stay there again.
Small and basic right in the heart of industrial dunedin so not the best location views of a car junk yard
Very cute just down fall no sky and tv sound isnt tge best.
Didn’t like the noisey shower from the neighboring room
Bathroom certainly sub-standard - no heating, no steam extractor, water temp varied as other units used their facilities. TV sound self-muted for a few seconds occasionally. Parking a bit of a squeeze. Lighting a bit dim.
The property is very old. There is no sound proofing. The owners or staff resided above our room and we could hear them walking across the floor and walking up the stairs, talking and showering and then every word spoken at the office. They did provide extra tea/coffee supplies to guests.
Happy to come back
I was happy that the gave me a choice of two room. Would have liked some green tea as I do not drink coffee. Extremely clean which made up for the some worn furniture
We stayed in a 3 bedroom aptmt. It was very spacious and had 2 bathroom which is great for 6 of us. The lication is within 10 mins walking distance to city. Only downside is the motel security. Reception is closed but the main door is not locked at nite so anyone can walk in from the street. Feels a bit unsecure.
We were a bit hesitant when we first pulled up. Im glad we stayed. The bed was comfortable. We had a really good comfotable night.
Not what we expected a bit dated .the view from the lounge window was a brick wall it would be better if they painted a mural on it
Centrally located. Nice and clean room upon arrival. Room was very spacious with kitchenette. Overall stay was great. 🙂
Adequate accomodation. Little bit small, but we were only staying one night.
we had the run of the motel. no management around during the weekend, off road parking limited, good positioning close to city centre
The room was quite tired and cramped but Brian was very accomodating. We were part of a wedding party, so he helped us make it a little more special for them but providing us with a complimentary cheese board and wine. He also allowed us to use the 3 bedroom apartment so we could get ready for their wedding. Thank you Brian. We were very grateful :)
The location was good. I didnt feel it was good value as it was a very small room and the kitchenette was not suitable for cooking.
Basic room. Microwave, tv, forks etc. All I needed, really. Handy to city.
Motel well located in quiet location a short walk away from Octagon. Staff were very helpful helpful and room was very clean. Only downside was thin walls between rooms meant one could hear your neighbours. Complimentary bowl of fruit at reception was really great. Complimentary bottle of pinot noir was very much appreciated! Would stay here again if visiting Dunedin.
Getting a text from the hosts prior to arriving was amazing, never had that happen before. Our 3 bedroom apartment was so roomy and the beds very comfy.
From the outside, it doesn’t look like much. But then you get inside and it is modern and comfortable.
Convenient location, nice place to stay. Water spouting a bit noisy during rain.
the only window in the kitchen area did not open. Luckily it did not seal properly otherwise no fresh air in the unit. Quite noisy at times with others coming and going - not much sound proofing. it would have been good to have had a handout -no linen being changed, rubbish emptied etc, which was fine, but what to do about that yourself. handy to town which is why I stayed there and great to have the car parked undercover. also didn't really like our names on display at the front counter - not sure the reason for that - no permission asked to do that or rationale why. clean and tidy if not a little cramped especially in the kitchen area. Good for what I wanted - going to a conference, and ideal for a single person in the room - would have been very cramped with 2 people.
Great Location.
Great location, very clean, Motel Manager was very helpful.
Great location, clean and quiet while we were there. Off street parking good. Unusual room layout with bedroom lacking any exterior windows. View was brick wall. Ok for the price.
Great service and friendly stadf. 2nd time ive stayed here enjiyed it ince again
Overall had a reslly nice stay. The staff were helpful and nothing was problem to ask for
the stay was made so easy. Certainly central enough for what we needed
Communication from hosts was great. However, my room wasn't overly clean, hair etc stuck in bedspread, pubic hair on toilet seat! Left my window closed due to it being a very cold day & when I returned my room had a very strong smell of body odour. Furnishings were lovely quality but couch could definitely do with a vacuum. Also have to say I wasn't too keen on the late checkin process.
Car parking available, walking distance to the Octagon, warm & spacious unit, comfy beds
Nice location some covered parking , good size room
Close to everything I needed. Free undercover parking was a bonus. Would stay there again
Close to a conference we were attending. Friendly manager.
Great place to stay for a short visit. Close to city.
Central location was ideal as the Dunedin centre is in easy walking distance. The property is ideal for those need accommodation during events and family meetings. It lacks an outdoors and view from the unit but suited our requirements.
Conveniently located and good parking . Rooms are tidy and comfortable bed
Very convenient location. Helpful staff. Bowl of fruit at reception to help yourself from. Free use of laundry facilities.
Nicely run, lobby is from the inner back covered parking garage. Area is a bit deserted, but walkable to shopping and eating district.
The property was ok and the manager was helpful but the motel is in an area of town where there no readily accesible restsurants. If a guest is renting a car or doesn't mind paying for rides/taxis it's not bad. But for a guest who likes to walk to things close by, this is not a good spot. It's just a matter of the old saying,"location, location, location." Unfortunately this property doesn't meet that criteria.
No windows in room- except the "window" looking out to the underground carpark! Squealing tyres from cars coming in to the carpark kept me up- and the room door was right next to the office of the person who checked me in. Not like the picture in the slightest.
Disappointing Dunedin
Very tiny room. Limited car parking. Position not as close to city centre as described
I thought the property was a bit run down and overpriced.
New owner very nice My room was layed put like obstacles course Need a redesign.
Clean, warm and comfortable but definitely a place to use as a base as there's not much natural light.
Don't tell anyone about Motel on Carroll...it's too good to be known about!
Very helpful staff.
We stayed in the small studio room for two nights. It was good value for money but rather cramped for two people. The staff were extremely helpful and very friendly and the motel's location was very convenient for what we wanted. Being a little way out of the centre of Dunedin meant it was nice and quiet!
My room was next to the basement carpark and had no window.
Motel on Carroll is unique in lots of ways! The location was good, if a little odd, and the room comfortable enough - but it's the first place I've ever stayed where I didn't see any staff at all. In the event, lack of personal contact wasn't a problem - I got an email explaining the arrival procedures, and the room was ready, with the key in the door, when we turned up. And there was a phone number provided if I had any issues. However it was a wee bit creepy, having only a message on a whiteboard to welcome us, and seeing no one else on the premises, save for a fleeting glimpse of one other guest at the end of a corridor. The room had everything we needed - but only because what we needed didn't include heating, as the only available means was a panel heater, propped against a wall, out of reach of any power points. I was reluctant to shift it - I'm sure it was meant to be fixed to the wall - so it was a relief that the room was warm enough without it. Would I stay there again? Probably (provided I wasn't on my own), if only because reasonably priced accommodation in Dunedin is scarce. Would I recommend it to others? Only with some fairly weighty provisos.
Compact but perfectly adequate for my one night stay.
Home away from home
Comfortable. Everything you needed for the kitchen. Everything I needed for a stay away from home. Big room, flat screen TV.
Awesome spot we walked everywhere
Went for pink - had a single room for us both and was small but totally doable! Really friendly people. And awesome spot we walked everywhere including to and from concert at Forsyth Barr Stadium
Avoid Room 12
I only booked this motel, due to having to come to Dunedin on short notice. Room 12 is a shoe box of a room, with only one window to an underground carpark. There is no natural light. When I arrived, the room was stone cold, and it took hours for the ancient heater to warm the room. Also there was no contact with any staff over my entire stay. With only a white board as a welcome. I can only be glad that my wife wasn't with me, on this overnight stay, as she would have refused to stay here.
Reception unstaffed and key in room door. Room not like photos on web! Very small with queen bed up against wall, ok for one person. No external windows other than looking out into carpark internal garage. Very noisy as cars coming and going and room right by reception where people used phone to contact staff. Not value for the money paid in comparison to other accommodation i have used in Dunedin.
Close to CBD, quiet, great parking and comfortable
We came from ChCh for the weekend. The room had a small kitchen and 2 bedrooms. It was perfect for what we needed. The heater warmed the rooms up and beds were comfortable (on the hard side but not to hard). We walked into town which took about 10 minutes. Check in and out was easy. This isn't fancy but it is clean and comfortable.
Nice and close to the octagon
Nice little motel, with great amenities and close to town. Only thing is that there is limited car parks so it is first in first serve.
Absolutely loved the 3 bedroom apartment, so much room. Very funky apartment.
You get what you pay for, basic room with very small kitchen has all the basic utensils jug, toaster, microwave good for one night stay handy to casino.
Overpriced with very little parking
We were not happy with out stay. Small room, couch was hard as a rock, bed was too soft kitchenette might as well have not been there it was so small bathroom had nothing dividing the shower from the rest so there was no where to hang a towel and the whole bathroom got wet when it ran. To top it all off, either the owner is using the parking spots for his hobby cars or they have rented the spaces out, either way, reducing the available car parks to only a handful. Would have been acceptable as a $80 motel room, it was very comparable to a motel we stayed in Wellington for that price. Also, our room did not auto lock, had no deadbolt or chain, making us uneasy about security especially with no one manning the front desk most of the day.
Disability friendly
The motel us easily accessible and user friendly (if you get an undercover park). There is a long ramp up to the door but a member of out party who has limited mobility even with a walking frame found this ramp doable.
clean & comfortable city accommodation
a very enjoyable stay in all respects especially my warm welcome from attentive and courteous manager
Bad lodge
Not friendly staff, not clean, bad smelling in the room with no widows in the toilet.
Nice and central but that's about all
First impression were that parking was almost non existent and the lady (the manager) on the desk was very abrupt indeed. Also, the motel was unable to provide me with a receipt that I needed for reimbursement for work, so I had to go back through Wotif and that was a mission in itself. The room itself was nice and clean although there was rubbish under the bet (2 empty water bottles and an ice block wrapper. There was also food in the fridge from the previous people. The motel itself was really handy to the Octagon and reasonable walk to everywhere we wanted to go. Shame about the motels the location was great.
A great wee find.
The motel was tucked away in an alley with the entrance at the back. Unusual. Surprisingly, it proved to be a large room with all we needed and very comfortable. We have no hesitation in recommending and returning to it.
Close to city amenities
Pleasant place to stay. Parking underneath a bit limited. Laundry facility good.
Small room but adequate for our needs.
Would have been better with air conditioning, only one small window opening and the weather was stifling. I know Dunedin doesn't often get such hot weather, but the lack of air conditioning made the night quite uncomfortable. Staff were great.
Had a great stay here. Check in was so quick and easy, it didn't even require seeing a person, they emailed before to let us know which room we were in and notified us where to find the key. Room was spacious, clean and had everything we needed. Check out again was simple and quick. Check in and out showed this motels ability to adapt it's style as technology progresses.
Very clean room
I thought I was booking a motel but it turned out to be a room with no view and nowhere for my invalid husband to sit outside when the sun was out. Room was exceptionally clean.
Boutique motel close to Dunedin city centre
We stayed in 3 bedroom apartment and loved it. The apartment has high ceilings and is very spacious. Kitchen is well equipped. Parking provided. The motel is located on a very quiet street.
Secure n safe
Private, safe secure and comfortable. Great parking space for cars.
Nice comfortable room
Hannah was vert helpful. Room was clean, tidy and comfortable. I would probably stayed a second night had they had availability.
Comfortable motel close to city
Easy walking distance to cafes and railway station.
Economical and relatively close to amenities. Good parking but limited spaces.
This hotel maybe fine if you are driving but not for walking at night, cold and deserted. The motel rooms may be fine too but the compact studio is very compact, not a studio at all really but a room with no window which is horrible. Well it looks into the garage so you can't put the blind up. I wouldn't recommend this studio at all, it was nothing like I imagined. On the plus side it was warm and the manager Hannah was very nice.
very clean and tidy motel within walking distance to CBD and cafes
Great concierge - very pleasant and helpful. she is an asset.
Older motel
Parking area tight and not a lot of parking area had to park on street
Nice tidy motel close to city centre
Very pleased with this motel.Nice friendly staff and nice tidy unit.Very handy to city centre.
Quiet, central location near cafes, bookshops and within walking distance of the centre of town
