Old fashioned but good service
Old fashioned hotel. Large rooms but very dated. No milk on the coffee tray and we couldn’t t work the AC because batteries had run out in the remote control. There was a phone on the room but no way to call reception. Breakfast menu was very limited. Hot breakfast had very small portions. There’s no bar so no option go sit anywhere and get a drink in the evening. It’s a 7 min walk into town and very dark along the route so wouldn’t advise walking it any night time. If you want to go out for dinner in the evening I would suggest taking a car.
Lovely clean property with many facilities but its decor is very 'busy' and a little tired. Staff are wonderful, place is immaculate, beds soft, lovely bath - would have given an extra half star if I could
Beautiful property and perfect location
Good stay, but small things matter
Our stay at Misty Waves Boutique Hotel was good. It is great privately owned hotel in terms of location and room comfort. There are few issues that could be much better. One is staff availability and their attentiveness to guest. We checked in on Thursday 19:00 and there was only one staff member at reception, he was totally overwhelmed by requests from guests bordering on being rude. We needed to hoot for him to open the gate as the telephonic buzzer went unanswered by the staff member seeing that he was swamped. The rooms were clean but there are no turn down service. Also only one bottle of water is provided and thereafter the guest needs to purchase water. The mini bar is not stocked and the guest needs to request for this to be stocked, we did not know this as it was not communicated to us during check in. We only later read it on an information sheet. So once again staff attentiveness needs work. I really feel that the hotel needs to attend to these small things to perfect the experience of guests. It is after all a 4 star hotel in the middle of Hermanus servicing a lot of international guests.
Big rooms and friendly staff
Great stay in hermanus. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. Our room was huge and had an incredible view of the water.
Highly recommend
Fabulous hotel with helpful and superb staff - Received a free room upgrade to a sea facing 4 poster bed with a lovely balcony - with comfortable chairs - to watch the sea rolling in. Massive shower, jet bath and double sinks in huge bathroom with loads of white fluffy towels and lovely smelling free toiletries! They even printed out a load shedding schedule although the wifi and some lights worked while the electricity was off
Amazing layover in a fabulous hotel, right on the seafront and easy walking to bars and restaurants. The staff, especially LeeAnne, couldnt have been more helpful and friendly.
Outstanding in all aspects
What a lovely hotel. The rooms were big and modern and the decor was sensational. To add to it the staff were very helpful and it came through that they loved working there and cared for the place. It was stated one of the best 25 hotels in South Africa and I cannot argue with that!
Excellent hotel, great location, excellent friendly staff who couldn’t do enough for us, even helped sort out problems with our hire car
Great hotel. Staff top notch, good safe secure parking. Easy safe 5 minute walk to all restaurants. Across from Whale watching beach/cliff. This place is a gem.
Great staff.
Really amazing accommodation especially the staff and the service. Recommended any day. Great location. Everything is nearby, ocean view is just right across the road if you don’t get the room with the ocean view.
We were very disappointed to find that the hotel had no generator - with stage 6 load shedding that was not good. We were returning guests buy will not be back
Wonderful location
Quirky.
The hotel was spotlessly clean and the staff very pleasant, but this is not a boutique hotel but rather, quirky at best.
Excellent
Lovely hotel in a great position right on the ocean road
HOSPITALITY SUPERB!
Excellent very friendly staff , owners hands on had a wonderful experience ! Enjoyed the cinema in house and popcorn also a massage. Fabulous room and the gardens are divine .excellent position to walk into town. Great breakfast1
not amazing , but okay
Generally the stay was okay. The facilities on the property arent maintained well. The breakfast was basic to say the least. A nice amenity is the jacuzzi spa bath
Awesome
Our stay was amazing. Friendly and helpful staff. Will highly recommend. Perfect location
Not too good
The hotel is beautifully decorated. We had a room with direct access to a lovely garden and to small pool areas. We also had a fabulous sea view. Our room was very spacious and spotlessly clean. The communal areas of the hotel were elegant and comfortable.
Outstanding! We had a huge, well decorated room which was immacuately clean with a fantastic view of the ocean. There was also plenty of secure parking on site. Customer service was excellent and the evening turn down service with complimentary chocolates was a nice touch. It was just a few minutes walk to the town centre with lots of restaurants to choose from.
Situation perfect and beautiful rooms over looking sea.Shame weather was not good enough to ysr swimming pool
Outdated, standard hotel
It’s a decent place to stay in, but nothing more. It’s not “boutique”, luxurious or special in any way. It also feels quite outdated, like it used to be something in the 90s. The best thing about it is the location, which is close to all the restaurants.
Hermanus
This hotel was great in every way, though maybe a little pretentious and in some respects a bit exaggerated. And no whales at our very moment, but of course we can’t blame the hotel for that :-). In principle you should be able to see the Southern Right Whales from your balcony. Moreover we saw tens of them in beautiful and nearby De Hoop NR.
Wonderful place to stay. Overlooking the coastline.
Very nice large room in lovely hotel with lots of charm. Very friendly and helpful staff - thank you. Short walk to centre of town. Would definitely recommend.
Good hotel central to Hermanus. Good staff and facilities
Nice place and close to town center. Pretty gardens
Very happy with our stay the only issue we had was with the bed for our 16 year old son which the Sofa Bed had seen better days. Nice safe position and would stay again.
One of our favorite places to stay on our 2 week trip in South Africa. Will definitely come back!
Two nights in Hermanus.
The hotel staff were welcoming and helpful at all times. The room and bathroom were spacious and bright. We booked the honeymoon suite which had full sea view. We could watch the whales from our balcony. Breakfast was adequate but lacked in freshness and choice. Wifi was not great. The hotel is a pleasant 8-10 minute walk from the main restaurants and bars. However, overall, I think the hotel is over priced.
Nice boutique hotel with friendly staff
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Staff were helpful and friendly. Hotel is in a great position.
Good location
Hotel was good ,clean, good location, friendly staff..WiFi was poor not able to connect in our upper room floor.
Top option in Hermanus
Amazing and very satisfied
We travel extensively and this place is hard to beat. Even a warm welcome from the resident cat.
Not bad for a one night stay, but nothing special
Really nice and obliging staff elevate this somewhat odd hotel. The suite we had was huge, but strange and sparsely decorated, and the mountain view - well, there is a mountain, but the windows are frosted, so you are kind of peering at it over the frosted glass. We only stayed one night, and room service from the restaurant was surprisingly good food for the late night order. It's not an ocean view, but on a road by the ocean, so in nice weather, there'd be some lovely views to walk to.
A happy pair of customers.
Very comfortable and professionally run.
Excellent location. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.would certainly go back there
In our opinion best hotel in Hermanus
Just spent 4 wonderful nights at this delightful home from home hotel. Next time we will stay longer. We had a room on the top floor which was massive and the room is one of the best we have ever stayed in and we travel very regularly. The furniture and fittings are very high class and have been carefully thought out. Unfortinately we didnt get to use the lovely big bath as didnt think it was right with water being in short supply during our stay. High quality bed linen, huge fluffy towels and dressing gowns are provided. The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble.
Lovely room with spa bath. Staff very helpful.good secure parking.
Good spot for whale watching
Nice stay in Hermanus. Staff very helpful and room comfortable though rather outdated furnishings.
Beautiful hotel. Room very comfortable.
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay a Misty Waves. Rooms are beautiful. Hermanus Is a great place to visit. Fabulous view from balcony.
Spacious, well located,comfortable hotel
Easy to find, well located, very comfortable. Heritage Cottage restaurant an asset.
Beautiful hotel with superb staff
Situated perfectly on the Hermanus beach, this English-style hotel offers amazing views and spacious rooms. The staff were outstanding, attentive, and helpful. There is a small in-house cinema where you can choose your own film - recommended. The nearby restaurant delivered an outstanding complimentary breakfast. There is a pool and comfortable outdoor area for lounging. Overall a fantastic stay.
We had the top room in the annex which was very large. Didn't really get to see the main hotel. We did not like the frosted windows which made it feel like there was something to hide and made the room dark. The room is old fashioned but clean. TV reception was poor. Breakfast was very good and if the weather had been warmer then the outside area would be great. The sea view rooms look pleasant. The staff helped with parking and suitcases. We saw several whales directly across from the hotel.
As we were only there for one night some questions are difficult to answer. Suffice to say we loved everything about it.
The hotel is wonderful and the staff very friendly
fabulous
wonderful stay! highly recommend it.
Serendipitous choice
Checked in with elderly mother and allocated room was immediately reassessed by reception and changed to one more easily accessed with a wheelie walker! Thank you! Breakfast choices expansive and service delightful. A fine stay.
Wonderful Place
Loved this hotel. Great location. Hermanus is worth your time. So beautiful. Only bummer was our ocean view room was looking over a construction site but that should be temporary. Ask for upstairs (we were on 1st fl). Staff was great and gave great tips on where to eat and what to do. Creation Winery! Pear Tree Restaurant
What a find!
What a nice surprise! Normally stay with another hotel up the road, (won't mention name). From now on, this will be my accommodation. Professional, friendly, and super efficient. Well done, and thank you!
Interesting and slightly quirky hotel
We had a lovely room with a terrace which was a delight. Full of little artistic oddities. We were only there one night and wished we had stayed longer. Staff were very helpful and cheerful. Reception pointed out that the restaurant at the front of the hotel was sub-contracted, clearly distancing themselves from it. We ate dinner there and the food was average and the service was 'interesting'. Breakfast in the restaurant was very good, though.
Nice hotel with excellent atmosphere
Only disadvantage miht be air conizionong noise putside
Excellence in all categories
Great stay
A great stay with very friendly staff.
Sea front hotel
Very well appointed boutique hotel, located within easy walking distance of the town and restaurant area. Has all the usual facilities as well as its own small cinema
Good value for money helpful staff
Good value for money helpful staff slightly away from main town area.
Hermanus next to the sea.
We enjoyed our stay of 1 night. Lovely big airy bedrooms and bathroom. We found the general standard good and cleanliness excellent and beds comfortable. Breakfast was buffet style both hot and cold and a really good choice of fresh fruit, pastries, eggs, bacon and sausage and would definately recommend the kidneys although not everyone's choice these were especially tasty. We were really surprised to receive the free bottle of wine and couldn't have felt more welcomed.
Convenient for sightseeing well located hotel
Good holiday hotel very convenient for exploring the Hermanus area. The building is a bit disjointed with the restaurant attached to the main hotel. Not very functional however it does not affect your stay. Very large room, comfortable with two single beds pushed together. We received a complimentary bottle of bubbly. All. very nice and very romantic
Super convenient location
Super hotel in a superb beach town
Great stay in Hermanus
What a pleasant stay although the tv pictute was not great ww thoroughly enjoyed our stay
Great service and friendly staff Poor water pressure in shower. On the morning of our departure, I skipped it to go and shower at home.
nobody can help you after 10pm
As the every 4 stars they offer "a welcome drink" but I explained to Ryan I have health problem it's a first time where I paid my no alcool drink ! It's jut plain pettiness on the part of 4 stars !!! And I didn't accept his smiley... If you have a problem after 10:00pm Nobody is here to help you for us fire alarm didn't stop (bipbipbipbip all the night) The decor bedroom should be to everyone's liking ! For s only embroidered duvet is beautiful ; the bedroom is clean and spacious.
Cosy little hotel
Was a nice little hotel. Room was very clean and comfortable with everything you would need. Mattress was very soft and uncomfortable. I would definitely recommend getting a room with a sea view though. The hotel itself was undergoing renovations so parts of it was under construction but it was well-managed and didn't impact our stay. The food wasn't really to our taste but there was enough on the buffet table to keep us reasonably happy. Staff and management were very friendly and helpful. If we go back to Hermanus, we'll definitely consider Misty Waves again but will ensure that we get a room with a sea view.
Great location near the sea.
We had spoken to the hotel prior to booking and been told there would be construction ongoing. However, the extent of the construction surprised us when we checked in. In addition, there was a cat in the lobby (unfortunately my wife has a phobia about cats) which spoiled my wife's first impression. Nicolene at reception however as superb and offered us an immediate refund if we chose not to stay. We were too tired to find another hotel and accepted here offer of being moved to another room. Throughout the stay, the staff was excellent and went out of their way to make us happy. The annex room was large and comfortable but has no view at all and in fact looks in to a neighbours back yard that is a mess (we suggested this window be removed as it serves no purpose and is just a negative). Once construction in completed, this hotel I am sure will be an excellent one. For cat lovers, the resident cat should not be a problem.
Perfect....only let down by the poached eggs....
Great place to stay - lovely location with beautiful views. Felt welcomed from the moment I arrived. Very secure and safe location too. I liked the touch of the cup cake in the room on arrival too. The only let down was the cooked breakfast - it may be a small thing but when I ask for soft poached eggs I don't expect to be served rubbery semicircular discs (I think poached eggs are done in a different way in SA to other places in the world)!!! The tomato sauce bottle was also sticky and filthy on the outside. The continental buffet looked OK though and the fruit good and fresh.
Excellent accommodation
We could walk into the shopping area that was a bonus
Fantastic hosts and great breakfast
The hosts are really helpful and take the time with you to make sure you are making the most of the trip. The rooms are lovely and the breakfast is fantastic. The location isn't in the middle of town but it's not that far so it didn't bother us
Great Hotel with friendly staff.
Great Hotel within walking distance from shops. Great breakfast and friendly staff.
Amazing
I was totally impressed, well done
Wave the flag for Misty Waves.
Perfect spot for a restful stay. Ideal for whale watching and walking into town. Lovely helpful informative staff.
great whale watching location
We stayed 2 nights here as part of our garden route trip. The hotel is in a good location and access is very secure. Breakfast was good with lots of choice. Our room was in the annex and we chose it for the size but it was cellar so had no views. The rooms in the main hotel were much better and seemed to have been updated recently as decor was more m9dern than website photos especially bathrooms. Our room was a little dated in terms of decor but very spacious and functional. Located a short walk from lots of restaurants and bars.
Enjoyed our one-night stay
We stayed at Misty Waves for one night ahead of a whale-watching trip. The staff were very welcoming and keen to help in any way they could. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent - in terms of both choice and quality. This "boutique" hotel wasn't quite as modern as its equivalent in the UK. Decor was a little more traditional/colonial yet nonetheless very pleasant.
Great Views
I stayed in Room 501 which is the penthouse. Great value and a great view of the whales breaching in front of you. Free bottle of Champagne on arrival plus they have a mini movie house as well in case you feel like doing something different. Breakfast could be a bit better as I would expect more variety from such a classy establishment. Would definitely go back.
Great Stay in Hermanus
The staff was very accomodating and aimed to please. They recommended Lemon Butta Restaurant for dinner the evening we arrived, and it was excellent. We found out the next morning that the very same restaurant caters the hotel's breakfast fare, and it too was great! The location was superb with a great view of the Atlantic Ocean and Walker Bay. All-in-all, a great choice and a great stay at a reasonable price!
Holiday 2015
We were a party of 4 and the hotel was excellent, especially as i left some valuables in the safe, the items where kept in the hotel safe until my return. I can not thank the staff enough they were excellent.
The name says it all
Great position overlooking the cliffs and waves yet easy walk to town. We chose the Heritage cottage rooms because of our past history with Hermanus and absolutely loved it. We found out things about the area we never knew even though we had previously lived there for years. To us it was much better than the price we paid may suggest and will be our #1 choice of where to stay when visiting Hermanus again. The next time will not only be 3 nights. Highly recommended for all travelers to and through Hermanus.
Cottage stay this time
a good return visit
Wonderful place to stay.
Friendly staff and excellent service. Very spacious and comfortable room. We ate in the restaurant which was lovely and had super views of the sea. Next morning we enjoyed the included breakfast, which was varied and delicious.
An anneversary to remember.
Good day We had a wondefull stay at Misty Waves. At first there was a little hick-up because the description of the room we received by e-mail and the actual room was not the same. Management immediatly step in and the hick-up was gone. Thanks to management. You made our stay because it was our 41st anneversary. Joshua and Sally
Relaxing stay
Nicely situated hotel with lovely sea views in a quiet situation a few minutes walk to the towns shops retaurants Good breakfasts Small pool and gardens
Fantastic views and beautiful decor
Beautifully decorated hotel with gorgeous rooftop restaurant with views over bay. We were lucky enough to see dolphins whilst eating breakfast. We stayed in the annex and had an enormous room with four poster bed and jacuzzi bath.
Good location but lacking something
Nice hotel with quirky decor but bathrooms need updating, breakfast was average and overall quite expensive compared to other hotels on our trip.
Loved Hermanus!
the main hotel is a lovely building but we were in an annex which whilst adequate was probably not as good as the main hotel so my review might be a little biased! Our Fishermans cottage had a lounge as well as the bedroom, but we didn't use it as very oddly furnished, not comfortable and no heating. TV was in that room so we couldn't watch it in bed. We waited well over an hour for room service and then did not get what we ordered...in their favour we weren't charged.
Go for it
Big rooms, very clean, chose annexe room with balcony over room in main building. Very satisfied. Gorgeous, eclectic, colonial style furnishings in public areas. Restaurant on 1st floor overlooks the bay for breakfast whale watching. Off road parking behind security gates situated in a quiet area along the sea front. Recommended.
Great location for whale watching
The guesthouse is conveniently located close to the cliff walk from where you can watch the whales along the coast. The restaurant is located on the third floor with incredible views of the ocean. We stayed in the "old" part of the hotel and I would not recommend that to anyone who came for whale watching. The new part of the hotels has beautiful balconies. Their was no cold water in the shower but there was the most comfortable bathtub with both hot and cold water.
Average stay
An average hotel , not good not bad but would not stay again!
Excellent Place to See Whales
We enjoyed our stay here and put this place at the top of our list for customer service. The hotel is located close enough to walk to town and far enough to enjoy quite time. Across the street has the most wonderful trails for exploring and watching whales. The rooms are large and very clean and we loved the bathroom! We were taking a shark cage dive very early and they provided a packed breakfast for us to take and eat on our way. They went out of their way to take care of us for example I left my prescription eyeglasses at a local restaurant and they picked them up and mailed them to me. Excellent management!! They have the most beautiful birds outside the hotel that you will not want to miss. Very secure gated hotel with great parking available. We loved our stay and can't wait to return. Make sure and take time to whale watch, its amazing to see so many at one place.
All-round very high quality
Good location, wonderful breakfast, and our room was an old historical fishermans's cottage nicely upgraded.i would definitely return here
good views from breakfast room
we were in the annex building in a large cold rather soulless room,
Wow - what a great place!
I'd read very good reviews about this guest house so I had high expectations, but it was so much better than what I expected. One of the best value for money stays I've ever had. This pace really has the wow factor. From the minute you walk into the lounge/reception area you know you're going to enjoy your stay. It oozes style and class throughout and the service from the staff matches this high standard. We had a fantastic ground floor room (more like a suite) with a balcony and a great view over the pool area and out onto the ocean. The bathroom was luxurious with a large jacuzzi bath, double sinks and a large shower. I could have paid double what we did and would have not been disappointed. A couple of service points worthy of a mention: Shortly after arriving a member of staff arrived at our room with complimentary bowls of soup, it was a cooler day and they thought we might like something to warm us up. It was delicious too! We had a late flight back to the UK the day we checked out and asked if there was anywhere we could shower and change before setting off to the airport. Without any thought of charging us even a nominal amount they gave us access to one of the other beautiful rooms to use between 5 and 6 pm. I can't recommend this place enough!
very professional service
we enjoyed our stay although it was a short one - we will come again!
Very well kept hotel, prime location, overlooking the sea. Must be a treat in the whaleseason! Good and extensive breakfast.
Individual hotel overlooking rocky shore
Good position overlooking rocky shore - would be excellent in whale spotting season (especially view from 1st floor restaurant). Room large and comfortable (ground floor - no view of sea, tucked in corner of garden) and pleasant enough. Walkable to centre of town (10 minutes) but peaceful along the waterfront. Pool small but adequate. Decor (especially in rather grand reception hall) somewhat gothic, which may not be to everyone's taste, but at least not characterless chain hotel! Restaurant food good, but limited choice and fairly plain. "Spa" is a pokey room with jacuzzi off the back stairs - but we didn't want to use it anyway! Lovely walks along the waterfront.
Quirky and welcoming
Misty Waves is well located a short stroll from the centre of Hermanus.I found the staff very approachable and helpful. Rooms are a good size ,clean and comfortable. Interior decorative style could be described as "quirky" but interesting. Breakfast was excellent. I would recommend this hotel for a short stay
fantistic Misty Waves
lovely staff--very helpful--a real pleasure to stay there. Will return next year
Wonderful stay
We very much enjoyed our stay at Misty Waves - the premises - the room was lovely, the staff were friendly and the views from the restaurant were amazing - we watched dolphins playing while eating our breakfast - fabulous! Only slight minus point was the full ashtray from the previous clients left on our balcony area. Otherwise a marvellous stay.
Excellent location
Comfortable hotel. Huge rooms with beautiful views to the ocean. We woke up to see the whales from our window. Walking distance to the town and shops. Secure and safe location with ample parking Must sample the food at the nearby Burgundy restaurant. Very good breakfast and once again the views from the balcony were to die for.
Heritage cottage - A disappointment
The hotel was close to the centre of Hermanus -we stayed in the Heritage cottage. Whilst this was a historic landmark it did smell very musty as if it had not been used for sometime. Amenities were ok.
A lovely boutique hotel, with lovely decor. Staff were very efficient, and friendly
